Good morning, ladies.
Enjoying reading through the posts.
Heather, good to hear that you got your cruise refund and well done on the amazon bargains.
Tracey, congrats on finishing your course and doing so well. I'm sure you are looking forward to your practicum. Very nice photos.
Ordered a couple of tees that are long sleeved from Columbia Sportswear for my trip to Newfoundland in June. Came in on Friday and are very nice. The weather should be good but can be cool when on the boat tours so I'm planning on layering. We do one overnight in Labrador and will be close to the ocean.
Have all my garden seeds except for a package of dill seed which I forgot to order. Can pick that up locally. I don't plant my garden until about the 3rd week of May so plenty of time. Have to pick up tomato plants, onion sets and potatoes next month....will be going to a local greenhouse for those along with my flower baskets for around the house.
Was a bit concerned about the plum tree I planted last year. It basically had no snow cover but I see it has started to bud out nicely so it wintered well. Should get plums off it this year. My fruit trees are in a sheltered area and I think that helped. Variety is a Toka plum.
Enjoy the day. Off to do my walking.

Today is a good day to celebrate Pecans! We have several orchards around Roswell. How do you say the word ‘pecan’ “pee-kahn” or “pee-can”? I lean toward the latter. I hear both versions at the park.

I say puh-kahn, Rita, with the stress on the second syllable. The lake looks inviting.
So glad to hear from Katla. I miss her a lot and have been worried about her. Now if someone could track Karen down. I miss her very much, as well.
I had more to say but my seasonal allergies are horrible today, and I can't think very well. My youngest went to prom with a few of his friends last night. Gave us five hours notice. Fortunately, he has a suit. I think they had fun, but he's pretty tight lipped about friend activities. Thankfully, they are all good kids, so I don't worry.
Here he's getting a kiss from his true love.
With his friends at the state thespian conference, he bought me this magnet. Didn't say anything, just put it on the fridge.
Much love,
Flea

Neither one! It's puh-KAHN, with the emphasis on the second syllable... and I grew up surrounded by them and pine forests. It was a toss-up which was messier, but the pecans usually won - each spring they'd put off catkins as long as your finger, that we called "willies," (sorry about that for my UK and Irish friends), in the millions. Then as the nuts finished ripening, it would shed all the nut coverings, then the nuts would fall. By then, the webworm caterpillars would start spinning at the end of the branches, leaving these globes of spider-web-looking balls, then those fuzzy little boogers would start falling. There's a tree around here somewhere, because we find the pecans hidden in piles of leaves where the squirrels stash them. It's not in the yard, thank goodness.
Corey's buzzing around on the big mower, and I'm debating on walking down with the push-behind while I'm still sweaty and getting the very front mowed. It's too slanted to put the big mower on it, too dangerous. I finally got the last of the siding down, and all the webs and decades of filth cleaned off and the siding and hundreds of nails and everything discarded. That carport's cleaner than it's been since we moved in! We're going to furr out the two solid sides to level out the three different surfaces that are now visible, and cover up the door that we blocked up to make the mudroom a few years back. Might be a project we tackle while my friend and her husband are here... That would get Corey a pair of hands that aren't mine to get a reasonably large project completed in a short amount of time. Free labor is always good.
Anyway, I think I will go do that while I still have a skosh of energy left.
KJ - I'm with Heather. Enlist all the help you can. Your energy, time (and sleep) are precious. Congrats on getting the weight under 250!
Welcome to those who are new as well... Drop into any conversation that interests you - they move fast!
Later, y'all,

Jumping on really quick:
Michele- a couple of ideas for a preschool grad gift:
I would pass on the backpack. Every kid, or their parent, knows exactly what they want in a backpack and will get it. I would maybe get a gift card to an office supply store/ or a target and let them shop for school supplies. Kids like to pick out their own things.
Another idea, that I am now giving to my grands, because their mom has told me "No more stuff!". I send them cash with a note and brochures/links to world vision, world wildlife fund, etc. In the note I talk to them about how they are so smart and loving and have grown so much. With that comes the responsibility/desire to help others. I ask that they give half of the monetary gift to someone who needs help. A family in need of food, a child in need of education, an animal in need of preservation... So far, this gift has been a huge hit with both Joaquin (age 7) and Miguel (age 4). They love to look through the websites to choose how to help. My daughter and son in law also love this gift, as it doesn't clutter the house and it helps them raise their boys.
The hotel price sounds very reasonable for 3 days; but I get it. Between travel expenses, hotel accomodations, food, etc.. It is pricey; visiting our grandkids! But worth it!
Welcome to all of the new ladies!
Sending love and hugs to all of the ladies in this group! I am reading posts and sending out positive vibes to all! I am also sending out love, hugs, and compassion as we all seem to be navigating loss, health issues, aging issues. Boy! Where was the "life pamphlet" that explained all of this?!
Lisa hit the nail on the head, stating that I am running headlong into spring. Trying to get my house clean, and ready for spring/summer, trying to get my backyard and play areas up and running for my childcare, trying to organize the historical event that I work on each year, and trying to summon the energy and brain power to "up" my childcare business. I am so tired, but I can't relax or get good sleep because I have so many ideas and "wants" that I really want to add to my business. Remember that movie "Awakenings" with Robin Williams and Robert De Niro? The description that is used to describe the Parkinsonian like tremors that the patients experience, feels like where I am at right now. Where the tremor is moving so fast that it the movement is "frozen" and the patient is locked in stasis. I think I need to talk to my family (sibs and nieces and nephews) and my provider reps/trainers and see if they can shed some light on how to organize and accomplish my goals.
In the meantime, I am getting more walks in with the kids. My weight is at 249. Which is down a bit. I haven't been under 250 in a few years.
Light and love to you all! Healing thoughts to those who need it. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
Sort of along those lines, one of the things we got from a relative or maybe more than one was a subscription to National Geographic Kids each year for several years. I loved it!

Watched church online this morning instead of going in person. Asthma is better but really didn't want to inturupt the service like I did last week.
Was nice to sit and watch while I drank almost 3 cups of hot tea(yep, service was extra long today)
Went up and picked up some dragon fruit plants that were listed on FB Marketplace- they are rooted cuttings that she only wanted $2 each for. They looked good in the picture. Got there(had to wait a bit, she was running late) but, super nice lady. Plants are bigger than they looked int he picture and she gave me the whole box for $20!! 24 plants total.
Got them temporarily planted for now. I will give one pot full to my Zumba teacher tomorrow(her birthday is Wed but she canceled class for that day)
On our way to get them(had to burn time because she was running late) we stopped at a little Asian market- hit the clearance spot(didn't have that last time we were there) and got all kinds of McCormick's flavorings for .75. A few I have never tried or even heard of but for that price- why not. Also got a big jar of Chinese 5spice for .99.
No exercise today other than the little bit of planting. Will make up for it tomorrow. May or may not walk the dog. I have my gyn appointment for PAP at 9AM, car in for oil change at 10:30. Black Friday after that. After that ?? Zumba tomorrow night. If I don't walk the dog, will need to push a bit harder in class to go over 10k steps.

Did Cathe Slow and Heavy DVD (one part) then walked to Food Lion to get potatoes that were on sale for Vince and his bananas. Then we started on the pool. It’s getting there, just need to give it more time. Making yogurt right now
Lanette – the prednisone was 6 one day, 6 the next, then 4 one day, 4 the next, then 2 one day, then 2 the next but the pharmacy miscounted the pills (or I screwed up) and didn’t give me enough for the last day. But I think I’m OK. I still have a little pain, but nothing at all like before. So it has helped and it probably will continue to help for the next few days. Maybe that did contribute to the depression. That and the fact that it rained for 2 days so I couldn’t even take my walk.
KJ – thanks for telling me to pass on the backpack. You’re right, every kid knows what they want. Never thought of a gift card. I’m trying to remember what my kids (back in the stone age...lol) needed for the first day of kindergarten. Oh, yes, it can be pricey to visit grandchildren. We don’t have to fly, but the last time we went up there for a few days it cost us over $800. Between food, hotel, someone to watch the cat(s) and give the medication. But SOOO worth it The thing is, this time we will need to go back up there the following week since that’s when Steve is having his picnic. But when we worked it out, it’s cheaper to drive home than to have to stay up there for the week and to top it off it’s Memorial Day weekend! At least we’ll be home for the weekend.
Oh, remember my girlfriend in Switzerland who has the tumor? Well, she’s starting chemo this week. Guess the radiation helped. Since (thank god) I don’t have any personal experience to call upon, what’s something nice to send to someone going thru chemo. Remember, she’s in Switzerland so it’s not like I can just pop in and help her with housework, etc.
We had some of the red ants so I googled how to get rid of them. One of the suggestions was white vinegar. So I put some where they were. They did scurry a bit, but I guess the next time I cut the grass and disturb that area, I’ll know if the vinegar worked.
Rita – I really don’t like the weather when you need pants in the morning, shorts in the afternoon, then the pants again in the evening. But as long as it isn’t raining, I’m OK. Even tho I don’t like changing clothing all the time
Debbie – so THAT’S what dragon fruit looks like. I’ve only had it cut up

Michelle-Amazon has and assortment of items-search by chemo patient gifts. Evidently you can get things shipped there but they would be purchased in one of the Amazon locations in France, Germany or Italy. Or you can just look there for ideas and send your own package.
Well, made it to church and the store. Got home and had to lay down. Got up, went for 2 mile walk (very slow pace!). Laid down again. Got laundry folded and a bit of ironing. Have lunch ready for tomorrow.
After contemplating this whole situation (and being pretty much fed up with the medical community) I decided to order and give the Uqora product a try.
Going to head off to bed.
Take care all,

I am sure mine will never get that big-that is an old plant-.
Actually, looking at it closer- that is at least four plants that they planted around a large pole and it grows up the pole.
A few neighbors around here have them growing up an old dead tree stump/tree.

For Micelle, the pink things are the actual fruit. Can you buy the fruit in Florida?
We can get it if we go to Queensland.

Lisa - A busy day but I bet you are beyond thrilled to have the yard art removed.
Your brick flowerbed is beautiful.
Hopefully your get an increase to your disability, we all need more these days.
Ginny - I hope that they figure out what’s causing the UTI’s so you can get rid of them completely.
Terri - I choked up reading her post and knew that she was going to do it. I had just been waiting.
Heather - It’s always great to save money. I was so happy to read your refunds have all been received.
You’re not letting your pain stop you very much at all.
Annie - can the doctor revoke your Dad’s licence? They do that here and it helps them understand they just aren’t capable of driving anymore.
Machka - I am absolutely loving the blue in my kitchen, it has brightened the whole place up. I want to do the living room now.
My friend that worked for one of the big telecommunication companies here always had to use the STAR method of interviewing. I like your idea of writing them down to have something ready. I’m going to work on that.
Kelly - It sounds to me it’s not the busy-ness keeping you stressed it’s the unknown. I get that! I can handle anything once I know what’s happening. It sounds like the sooner you talk to your family, the quicker you can handle it.
Joy - I was thinking that maybe I would try to grow some tomatoes this year, just on my deck. I would love some new potatoes and peas, but I’m not sure I can do those in containers.
Flea - I love the magnet.
I went shopping for a bra and shoes today, so frustrating. I don’t like the shoe styles at all, it doesn’t help that I hate shoes to begin with. I don’t like things on my feet. Then bras! I swear only men design them for us women because I find it hard to believe a woman would make it that hard on us! Ugh!!!! To treat myself I bought myself a purse. I needed a bigger one to carry a notebook and I don’t know where I can put things so wanted to be able to have my wallet well hidden in there.
I’m leaving the house for the first time since May 10th and it seems so surreal.
I’m going to try to go to bed early, but I doubt I’ll sleep well tonight.

Wow. You ladies are all so busy! I retired a few years ago due to pain and can barely walk with a walker. I really miss being able to walk!
Due for a hip replacement in June and need to be losing weight. Of course the more I think that I HAVE to lose the worse I actually do. I joined TOPS a few weeks ago so I hope that will help
Love reading all your posts
Karen in BC7 -
Hi Karen BC! I feel you. I am having both hips replaced successively in the next few months and can barely hobble around the house. I'm necking loads of painkillers, which I hate doing, but otherwise it's unbearable.
So sorry you had to give up work. My severe pain has come on very quickly, in the last couple of months, so I guess I'm lucky, but it is very hard not to put on weight when you can't move much, I agree. I can feel mine increasing daily! I do flexibility and strength exercises for the op, which are great, but it's not the same calorie burn as walking about all day. I managed a few bigger chores yesterday, but it feels like a mammoth effort, and you pay for it. Looking at Debbie's planting makes me feel exhausted. That kind of effort would be way beyond me!!! One small pot would be a big achievement.
It's horrible, but at least you have a date for the op now. Rather than try to starve yourself, which has the opposite reaction, just keep things sensible. Treat yourself with other things. I bought myself some (very cheap) real silver and red earrings from Amazon yesterday. Luckily, all the painkillers have upset my stomach, which is feeling bloated, so my normal appetite has decreased a bit. I am drinking alcohol in the evening, which I should cut down.
Goid luck with everything. Soon you will be a different woman!
Tracey - I am so happy to read of all your exploits and triumphs! Great photos of you and your friend and family. My old friends, even on the phone, have been a huge help to me lately. I'm so lucky to have them.
I presume the practicum is actually being in the classroom. Wishing you all the luck.
I'm so grateful I don't have to wear a bra as I can't stand them. I wear a tight camisole to keep things orderly, but I'm not big. Haven't worn a bra in decades. I've just ordered a new royal blue long camisole. I like them to show under the T shirt/sweater as a pop of colour over my leggings. I have bright pink, purple, and bright blue, along with loads of black.
I'm wearing my new hands free trainers as house shoes. Helps with my gait and less slippery on the stairs. I need socks and slippers all year round, except if it's over 85°F. You know it's a heatwave, if Heather has taken her socks off!
Very, very, best wishes for your next adventure!
Machka, I admire your excellent preparation for your interviews. I hope you get the job you want. :-)
Now to make John a cup of tea.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx8
