Happy Saturday all!
Reading some of these comments reminds me of a saying that has always rung true.
The happiest people do not have the best or everything, they make the best of everything
Some people need constant stimulation and are always chasing for something. Some are able to find joy in what they have. Envy really is the thief of joy and happiness isn't measured the same way by people. My life may not suit everyone but it's not supposed to.
Enjoy your small pleasures ladies

Rusty, (nice to meet you by the way 😁), I like those sayings! Wise words!
I need to let go the need to please my sisters. In the end the only person I need to please is myself in this here life of mine. My desire to measure up comes from years of low self esteem, and though I am far from that person, when I touch base with family my mindset goes there sometimes. Its a familiar habit. The need to be accepted first comes from me accepting myself, in all its imperfections. We are our worst critics huh?

I can pay the cheques into the post office, rather than having to go to the bank, and John can drive me there. It's only a few streets away, but too far for me at the moment. The money, most of it John's, will nearly pay for the first hip.
Pleased with myself for changing my bed linen today and switching to a summer weight duvet. It's only a single bed, so easy enough.
Annie - I have one of those sling purses for my cruises. Very useful. I take my phone, cabin card, lipstick, comb.
I then decided to celebrate the season with wearing a new long-sleeved t shirt! It's dark navy, so I put a bright blue camisole underneath to layer and wore my opal necklace. And I've ordered a long royal blue one. My long black house dress arrived yesterday, for wearing after the operation for a couple of days and nights. It looks great, and I'm loving my hands free slip on trainers. Hooray!
Just going downstairs to put the duck legs in the oven.

I am so glad everything worked out regarding Saga! I know you do not like those situations, but it is all coming together. Being at the mercy of outcomes not in your control puts you on edge, but know that, "all shall be well, all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well". 😁
I love when you talk of your new purchases. I can hear the excitement in the tone, and that makes me happy that you're happy!

Hello everyone!
I am a 62 year young woman. I have been battling my weight since 1989 after I had my 3rd child. I’ve been on every “diet” known to man and wasted a lot of money in the process. I have lossed and regained multiple times. The one thing I’ve never had though, was consistency for longer than a month. This time I made some changes. I ditched my all or nothing mindset and I made little changes and started out slow. First I gave up drinking sweet tea and fast food. Now I prepare food at home and I only drink water or fat free milk. Then I added a little walking every day. And now I can walk farther than I ever thought I would be able to. My next goal is to go to the gym in my apts and walk on the treadmill and use some light weights. I was only planning on weighing every 4 weeks but for this month I will weigh every week. CONGRATS to all of us for sticking with it!

Debbie - I once had my fitbit on while horseback riding at a state park and it recorded that I walked thousands of steps and climbed lots of flights of stairs. The one I have now records I'm swimming whenever I do water exercise maybe because it gets wet.
Nice sunny day here. Hoping to get some lawn mowing done. Farrier is coming to trim horse and goat hooves.
Heather - glad you got your money back. That has to be a relief.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA5 -

I need to see if my Fitbit is waterproof. I am going to start taking a AquaZumba class in June. May just not wear it and adjust it manually. Looking forward to trying it. It will just be one day a week(same teacher as I have for regular Zumba) and just for the summer(outside pool). She is also going to add a short Pilates class before our Zumba class that I might try. I am waiting to hear if they will give us a discount if we sign up for all three classes. If not, I will wait on the pilates until after aqua is over.
I know her prices are a lot cheaper than regular gyms(her classes are through the city) but need to see how much more it will be if I add two more classes. My friends are saying the same thing.
We had great weather earlier in the week- super windy yesterday. Made for a good workout just walking around the wetlands and not too many birds hanging around. Raining today.

Rosemarie- I really am enjoying the show Elsbeth too. I enjoyed that character on The Good Wife and the Good Fight.
Lisa - your quilt design sounds similar to a lot of my scrapbooking designs, I try to make it look too real. Finally! The Skyrizi.
Kim - that sounds like a terrible day, glad your car was fine and you had flowers though.
Rita - Funny spider story.
Heather - I’m sorry to read how much pain you are in. Your visits with Edie are such a treasure for both of you.
Great news that you received your funds.
Rebecca - “how do you tell someone that the contentment of life is the stillness”. I think you just answered your own question. Just be honest.
I am a very social person, my DH is an introvert. I’ve had to tell him that I don’t consider sitting at home all the time a life, I’m happy for him if he does, but I need to go. It has nothing to do with him, it just is.
Annie - my parents had no money so there were no wills or anything, my brother ended up paying their house off himself.
My grandmother though, had it set up that my brother got the property and my mom and I got the money. If you are to get the house, maybe that’s why your sister gets the financial side.
Things are so different in my family though, we did everything as a family meeting and it was all verbal. My grandmother actually even took her name off her bank account and put it in my mother and brothers names 4 years before she passed. She also signed her car over to my Mom, the property to my brother. She did it all so there was nothing to be done when she passed. It was quite simple really.
Machka - I would be glad to be moving too. One of my fears anytime something changes around me is that I’ll end up with troublesome neighbours.
I have watched too many episodes of Fear Thy Neighbor.
I tried to keep up with reading all week but I didn’t succeed well. I got all caught up today after dropping my friend at the airport.
I’ll put a review of the week in a spoiler.Cheryle’s flight changed numerous times on her way here due to weather. She originally was scheduled to arrive at 2340 last Thursday, it then changed to 1615, then back to 2350, then a problem with takeoff from Toronto, it was delayed to 0023. She ended up arriving at P
0114. Thankfully I live very close to the airport so was able to stay at home, watching her flight updates online.
We had a long wait for her bag and ended up getting home at about 0230. We got to bed about 0315.
I had to do my sign language conversation for class at 0830. Didn’t do as well as I wanted, apparently the instructor couldn’t see my hands all the time on the camera. 😕
After class we sat and visited, we then decided to go to a semi local antique store. We spent the afternoon there. In the evening we just visited and I made the lasagna for the dinner on Saturday.
Saturday, my girls, their husbands, and the Grands came for supper. A relaxing day just visiting.
Sunday, we picked Lauryn up and then went to Kaitlyn’s for a visit, she coloured Cheryle’s hair and we had a barbecue. Cheryle and I came home and for the first time really had some alone time as Rodger had gone to work. We watched American Idol and visited.
I started a new course on Monday, Traumatic Brain Injury, I felt quite bored as we learned most of what Machka has been teaching us for the last six years.
On Monday we made my grandmother’s doughnuts, she remembers them like I do. One of the best things about having a childhood friend, shared memories.
Tuesday we went for pedicures (her treat) and then went to pick Lauryn up and we checked out a couple more antique stores in the city, we picked up supper on the way home.
In the evening after Rodger went to work, we sorted through my clothes, I was worried that I wouldn’t have anything that still fit, since it’s been almost a year since I have worn work clothes. I was quite happy when things fit and were actually even a bit looser than I remembered!
Wednesday we had a long crafting day, just the two of us, we were going to go to sleep early, but we ended up having a very serious conversation starting at 1030 so didn’t get to bed until 130. Well worth it.
Thursday I did an assignment after class and then we crafted some more and went to ceramics in the evening. She bought two pieces to paint, one for me to paint for her to give her Mom from us for Mother’s Day. I forgot to get a picture.
Yesterday, Kaitlyn and Raquel came for the day to have a craft day and visit. I made a paper wreath for my Mom, Cheryle took it home for me and is going to go visit Mom and give it to her. Kaitlyn took a bunch of photos for us, mostly selfies. It was the Double Besties Day according to her. Her and Raquel liken their friendship to Cheryle’s and mine. It was a wonderful week and I hated taking her to the airport this morning.
In other news, I am officially done classes and will start my practicum on Monday. This weeks session was the lowest mark I received in the whole course, 85%, I didn’t put my heart into the assignment, so got dinged a bit. I won’t receive my official marks from the school until after my practicum, but my calculations I’m still going to graduate with a 95% final grade.
I have some laundry going, have dozed on the couch a bit and have decided I’m buying supper. I plan on soaking in a long hot bath this evening and watching the CMT Awards I recorded last week.
Tomorrow I have to go find some shoes to wear for my practicum. I also need a new bra, both things I really hate shopping for.
I’ve missed you all!

Tracey - What a lovely time y'all had, and what a lovely story for Kaitlyn's life. You were missed. Many good thoughts coming your way for your practicum.
A good day in so many ways. Mostly adventures in home renovation and outdoor spring cleanup:Corey pushing the boat with the track loader:
On its way into its metal coffin:
What happens when you fold a boat:
The view now from my kitchen window (whoop!)
And together the other thing that made me very happy today - got all the plants loaded into my brick flower planter... just a few stones left to gather to put the edge on it:
And after all that, we went and dropped the track loader back off and went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant for the first time in at least a year. It was quite yummy.
Off to bed, my chickens, I'm wiped out.
Love y'all,

I was depressed yesterday, but I’m not today. Was able to get out in the sunshine, cut the grass, cleaned the wall from the spa into the pool, then put down Preen on the hill on the side. Guess I just needed a little sunlight. While cutting the grass it was so funny to see, Vince was in his pants with a light jacket on while I was wearing my work shorts and work sleeveless shirt. Tomorrow we’ll probably start cleaning the “muck” (pool)
Heather – so glad you got your money
Candylicious – welcome. I like how you’re approaching things
Went to church now making protein waffles
Debbie – how I wish we had aqua zumba. I don’t like the impact of regular zumba but aqua zumba would be great. You are so lucky to have it available to you
Tracey – yea for clothes that fit, especially if they are loose. Woohoo that final grade, you should be very proud of yourself. Knew you would do it. What a lovely story
PJ’s graduation from preschool is May 22. Wonderful, Memorial Day weekend. So you can imagine the hotel rates since that’s a tourist area. We’ll be there for 3 days and the hotel cost alone will be over $400. The next weekend is an annual picnic at Steve’s (he comes to our house on his way to FL, used to work for Vince). We’ll probably come home and then drive back up since it will cost so much to stay there for the week. We can only stay at Steve’s for a couple of days, not a week.
KJ or anyone else: any suggestions for gifts for a preschool graduation? A backpack (someone suggested that) to me, is a good idea.
Lisa – amazing pictures.
I thought the flower on this one weed was really pretty and would look good in another spot. So I replanted it. Watch it die because I replanted it. Jess just called to say that all of the onion seeds that I planted sprouted. Maybe it was because I wasn’t there all the time.

Yes, I am kind of hoping she does come to visit this year, we can talk a lot of stuff out. All in all we do have a solid relationship.
Your family seems very organized,by our grandmother getting things situated before she passed. I know when my Mom passed it was organized by her that her husband (my step father) would live in the house for a year before it was so be sold and split up between him and us three sisters. When that happened the lawyers split it up, and looking at the fees, etc it came out to more than the total. So by the time I got my check sent to me in California, everyone had pretty much cashed theirs, so my check bounced! We had paid off some bills etc, so the overdraft charges came piling in! About $100 in overdraft fees. So that was a hassle! A check had to be reissued to my bank, and my step father paid all our fees. We almost dipped our toes in the house buying market, but got cold feet. We bought a wood play structure for the boys, a hot tub, and went on a trip to Lego land instead.😁

My sisters life is so much more physical. I mean for example, if she needs to take the bins to the curb she needs to put them in the bucket of her tractor and drive them down. While husband and I just wheel them a bit and done. She weeds 5 huge beds, while I weed nothing. So her life is very different than mine. She asked me once if my life was fulfilling. Because in her eyes it just seemed less so. When (or if) she comes visit this year, I will probably have to have a sit down conversation on our individual ideas of our lives. Just a lot of feelings not expressed on that subject. We are at a good place though, so just things I have had on my mind that she needs to hear. Being her little sister though, I do tend to give in, to regress a bit, and tend to not give my opinions. I think the whole little sister thing needs to be hung up, I'm 61 yrs old for gosh sakes.😂

I'm told that your kids are always your kids, no matter how old they get. It's the same with siblings...probably more so with sisters. I will always be my older sisters' little sis and my younger ones will always be just that. I want to protect them like she wants to protect me. So even if you're 61, you're still her little sis. Enjoy it. Not everyone has the pleasure of having siblings and I cannot imagine it any other way.

Had a bit of fun this morning with an offer from Amazon for a same day Co-op delivery. It was a bit difficult to negotiate, but I ended up with £40 of groceries for £28. I think that's a win! Coming between 4 and 6 today. I only bought the things we buy regularly from the shop, but it's a bit far to walk for me at the moment. Some of their things are excellent if you pick and choose. Plus stocked up on the girls' after-school treats. I bought organic whole milk for yoghurt making tonight .
I've been reading up on the health value of the best olive oil, for the polyphenols. It has to be early harvest, and EVO. I really like the Arquepina oil, fruity and sweet, from the north of Spain, which I buy in litre cans, but it is sooo expensive. I found a slightly cheaper brand, same thing, and for some reason it had a 15% off voucher in the small print. So, I saved £6 on that, compared to my previous one.
So, in half an hour this morning, I've saved us £18. I think that's worth the effort. They are all things we use regularly.
Now off upstairs to do my morning strengthening exercises! I've finished all my antibiotics this morning.
John has just left for cricket.

Good morning, my chickens, from the pre-dawn darkness of the Arkansas River Valley,
We're in for another warm spring day, the early spring blooms like the redbuds and the fruit trees have come and gone, every tree that survived the winter is leafing out all in that light new green that hasn't yet gotten dusty and dry, and the white morning glories have begun to send the vines spiraling upward already. The purple ones are just peeking above the surface of the soil; they'll be growing like mad soon. Tiny strawberries have appeared in the hardy container plants, and wildflowers are everywhere. I love spring here.
All of the hard work outside and in has been wonderful both for this place and for me physically. I can feel my stamina increasing, not in leaps and bounds, but slowly, slowly. Corey watches me, and knows the signs, and is making me sit down less often, so I know I'm getting better. Just reinforces that we're not comparing ourselves to what we SHOULD be able to do at this age, but what we did yesterday, and the day before. I do feel as if I'll be starting the new medication while I'm in good physical shape instead of going in desperate to be helped by the meds.
Next week is also the postponed VA physical to see about increasing my current disability rate. No idea how that's going to turn out. No idea what the day holds, but Corey plans to make Salisbury steak in the crockpot and make beer today, so mostly inside work for him. Debating whether to get some more of the siding down in the carport or just take a break today, but can't start on it until after the sun comes up anyway, and after Corey's awake. It's pretty noisy work.
Hope it is/was a lovely, peaceful Sunday for everyone.
Love,
Lisa in AR

Good morning all:
Yesterday was bit strange but good. Got up and checked and yes-it appears the UTI is back (or most likely never left). Made appointment at CVS Minute clinic since I have no refills. Test confirmed-he said not bad yet but on the way there (which I could tell him!). Started basic antibiotic and sent out for culture. Want to make sure I am on best for what is source of problem.
Then went to lunch potluck/remembrance for long time friend who passed a couple of weeks ago. Saw some old friends, had good visit with her husband (the four of us were friends). Came home exhausted and took a good nap (almost never an afternoon activity for me). Got up and got cleaned up and friends picked me up to go to symphony.
Can't remember lat time I was at a symphony performance, but since friends had extra ticket (sister who usually goes with them is in hospital), I decided to give it a try. The modern dance did not resonate with me. But they performed selections from Margaret Bonds' Montgomery Variations based on "I want Jesus to Walk with Me." Worth going out for.
Woke up at 4:30-got my taxes filed. Don't know why I put them off this year. I knew I would have to pay some federal tax and I did (DH Social Security-haven't accounted for that). However, I got half of that amount back in state return so not so bad.
Plan for this morning is go to church, stop by Kroger to pick up a few things. Go for a walk. Then laundry etc. Will rest as I feel like it-want antibiotics to do their job.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Lisa: Your efforts are paying off well. I love the newly planted bed.
Tracey: That story made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck! I am a strong believer in this kind of Kismet. I have often felt that my dear departed grandmother is watching over me. I love the wreath you made for your Mom.
Just waiting for DH to return from dog walking with younger daughter. Then we will have lunch and head out for elder daughter’s house. We will put the dinner on a timer so that it’s ready when we get back home.

Good morning ladies!
Heather so glad you got your refund sorted. So now it's a matter of waiting for the surgery. You will do well because of all the exercise prep.
Tracey Congratulations on doing so well, and starting your practicum! Yay for progress!
Welcome to Lesley, Rusty and Candylicious!
I'm having second thoughts about my Pharmacy Technician program. I haven't signed up yet because since my Dad fell, I've been driving him around. Now I find out he was driving yesterday. It's about time for him to give up driving, but taking his keys would be a huge fight. Anyway, I'm not sure about going back to work, it would be a big change. Hmm. Something to think about before I spend $3000 on the course.
Yesterday I went to a lovely British tea, hosted by a lady from a church. She had beautiful floral teacups and silver silverware. We had four kinds of tiny sandwiches, and then scones and then sweets. The tea was a lavender earl grey. Absolutely fabulous! All carbs and sugar, though. I loved the black currant jam. I wore a fascinator, which actually stayed in my hair quite well and was comfortable. So very posh and proper and lots of fun.
Today we have tickets to see a local production of Camelot. I don't expect it to be very good, but who knows.
It's a bright sunny day so far. Have a marvelous day, my friends! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Went to our bee group meeting this morning. We haven't been for a little while because we've been away when it has been on so it was nice to go again. We were all in our bee suits while we watched those more experienced do a hive move. Today was a gorgeous autumn day so that sort of thing could be done. The bees will be set for winter now.
Stopped at Bunnings on the way home to get a sample pot of light blue paint.
Worked in the garden a bit.
Drove out to the house with another load and once we were unpacked and I had watered all the plants, I did some painting with the sample pot.
LOVE the colour but we think we might like it a shade or two lighter, if possible.
Came home to watch Lego Masters!
I also applied for a job at a higher level than I've ever applied before. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! At the very least it gave me the opportunity to rethink my Supporting Statements document and if I am fortunate enough to get an interview, it'll give me experience with an interview at that level. Interviews generally become more difficult the further up you go, often with practical components. And whether I get the interview or not, I can ask for feedback.
Regarding the practical components, in interviews over the past few years I have already had to write code, teach a class, and do a presentation with some documents provided to me at the time of the interview.

Heather - So pleased that Saga and the insurance lived up to their promise. I know that's a massive weight off your mind. Love getting good buys on something you would have bought anyway. Feels very much like a win.
Ginny - I've gone through years where UTIs popped up over and over, and years where I got checked every time I felt that burn and they never showed up. Such a frustrating thing, and they definitely affect your mind as well as your body.
Annie - I really, really want to say that your British tea sounds wonderful, but I can't imagine anything I would want to avoid more. Funny how different we all are, but we come together here. It is always a lift for me when I see that you're able to fit your exercising into everything else you're doing with your own life and working to keep your dad alive and healthy.
Machka - The blues are beautiful, but lighter still would be good, I agree. I love it that you always reach higher, faster, further. Never even heard of an interview like that in the U.S. Such interesting differences.
Apropos of nothing, when we were on our way back from dinner last night, I asked Corey, "What would you do if I kicked the bucket?" He said, "Go pick up the bucket." 🙃 Don't think he's ready for that conversation yet. 😀👀😁 Egg probably is ready for it, but the answer would involve sleeping a lot, mostly, so what's the point? 🤷🏻♀️😁
Later, y'all.

Why not take a part-time job in a local shop - bookstore, clothing store, gift shop - whatever catches your fancy?
And if you felt that this wasn't the time, come September shops are looking for Christmas help. You could try it out for the Christmas season and see how it went.
The thing is, if you are counting on an inheritance, and if everything goes to your sister, you might find yourself in a bad position all of a sudden. And the longer you don't work, the harder it is to find work because you've got no recent experience.LisaInArkansas wrote: »Machka - The blues are beautiful, but lighter still would be good, I agree. Most government and university positions here are like that - local, state or federal.
We submit our CV plus a document anywhere from 2 pages to about 8 pages long. Fortunately our State gov't is going to the 2 page documents. Thank goodness!! It's exhausting producing documents where you write a page on each selection criteria!!
Then at the interview, you're given your interview questions 10-15 minutes ahead of time, and you scramble to jot down some points. If you've had interview experience (which I have had now), you go in with a booklet of your examples for any number of different interview questions you might encounter. Then for most questions, you just have to jot down your code for which example you'll give. However, they usually throw in a question right out of left field that leaves you sitting there for 5 minutes trying to figure out what to say.
And there's often a practical. You can ask before the interview if there will be a practical. They may or may not tell you generally what it is, but they'll usually tell you if there is one or not. Just something more to break out in a rash about.
As for the examples you give for the interview questions, they all follow the STAR pattern:
Situation: Describe the situation that you were in or the task that you needed to accomplish. You
must describe a specific event or situation, not a generalized description of what you have done in
the past. Be sure to give enough detail for the interviewer to understand. This situation can be
from a previous job, from a volunteer experience, or any relevant event.
Task: What goal were you working toward?
Action: Describe the actions you took to address the situation with an appropriate amount of
detail and keep the focus on YOU. What specific steps did you take and what was your particular
contribution? Be careful that you don’t describe what the team or group did when talking about a
project, but what you actually did. Use the word “I,” not “we” when describing actions.
Result: Describe the outcome of your actions and don’t be shy about taking credit for your
behavior. What happened? How did the event end? What did you accomplish? What did you
learn? Make sure your answer contains multiple positive results.
If you've prepared at all ahead of time, you'll have one for communication, one for organisation, one for providing advice, one for project management, etc. etc.
The interview question might be ... We need someone skilled at project management, can you provide us with an example that demonstrates your skill in project management.
So you break out your Project Management STAR and enthusiastically tell the tale!
Oh and at the end, you MUST have a few questions for the interview panel about the job. If you don't it shows you're not interested in the job.
The whole process is quite the adventure!

Michele - when will you be finished with the prednisone? Was this a week's worth, diminishing dose every day? It always made me feel spacey, wondering if it contributed to your day of depression. That's not like you, you are such a go-getter. Glad you're feeling better. Anyways, hope it helped your sciatica.
Lisa - your planter turned out great. Looks like Corey had great fun getting the place cleaned up - how satisfying to see the debris piled in the dumpster. Good-bye boat! Funny how guys love little bobcats and tractors. Sometimes when I have the shop door open to get the mower out, neighbor guys are drawn to the little Kubota they can see from the road and come over to ooh and ahh. Some type of magnetism, lol. Boys and toys.
Barbara - what did the MRI show about your shoulder? Apologies if I asked before and you answered. I go down these rabbit holes and lose touch. Thank you so much for the Katla update. I know it was hard on her moving from her beloved house on the river, but I think we all were relieved sh and her DH are now under the watchful eye of her daughter in Illinois.
Speaking of rabbit holes, I looked further into the Soleus Pushups. Dr. Hamilton has a website with more information, instructional videos, research, etc. His message - if we're just sitting anyhow, why not start incorporating them? https://www.soleusmetabolism.org/.
Annie - so glad you enjoyed the tea party. Bet you were super cute with the fascinator. Have fun at Camelot. I don't blame you putting the pharmacy tech on pause for now, keeping tabs on your dad takes a lot of time and energy.
Ginny - hope you get that UTI cleared up quickly. Good job getting your taxes filed for another year.
Heather - nice grocery discount! Nice to hear the cruise refunds are back in your account. What a relief.
I had to take a small amount from a retirement fund this year, called the fund last week and requested a distribution to help with property taxes coming up. The broker said "we'll send the check out next week since you don't have a bank account on file with us." It kind of threw me - everything is done by direct deposit these days it seems; I haven't deposited a check in ages. I said OK and the check arrived just fine within a few days.
Tracey - what a fun time with Cheryle, great that you two had a chance to catch up and do fun things together. Loved the photos. Congrats on the good marks finishing your courses and can't wait to hear more about the practicum.
Busy past couple days. Dismantled DH's tower computer, pulled out the hard drive and hammered it a little and at least broke off plug-in prongs (it was a tough one!) and tossed it in the garbage. Probably overkill since he wasn't in the CIA but still. (All I could find on it was some photos which I backed up.) And put the remains of the unit in the Subaru for recycling along with 2 old Dell monitors. Tossed old speakers and other items from his computer desk into the trash. His computer desk will now be my "zoom" set-up with the new laptop.
I've been accepted into the hospital's Medicare pre-diabetes program, looks like I'll be starting mid-May. Hope I've gotten a head start with eliminating white starches, I guess A1C testing in June will reflect whether that's been working so far. Also hoping Soleus push-ups will contribute to a positive effect. We'll see.
I had more to comment on, but need to head out in a bit and grab groceries before the zombies wake up.
**Weekly check-in reminder** please get info to me by tomorrow noon if you want to be included.

Jumping on really quick:
Michele- a couple of ideas for a preschool grad gift:
I would pass on the backpack. Every kid, or their parent, knows exactly what they want in a backpack and will get it. I would maybe get a gift card to an office supply store/ or a target and let them shop for school supplies. Kids like to pick out their own things.
Another idea, that I am now giving to my grands, because their mom has told me "No more stuff!". I send them cash with a note and brochures/links to world vision, world wildlife fund, etc. In the note I talk to them about how they are so smart and loving and have grown so much. With that comes the responsibility/desire to help others. I ask that they give half of the monetary gift to someone who needs help. A family in need of food, a child in need of education, an animal in need of preservation... So far, this gift has been a huge hit with both Joaquin (age 7) and Miguel (age 4). They love to look through the websites to choose how to help. My daughter and son in law also love this gift, as it doesn't clutter the house and it helps them raise their boys.
The hotel price sounds very reasonable for 3 days; but I get it. Between travel expenses, hotel accomodations, food, etc.. It is pricey; visiting our grandkids! But worth it!
Welcome to all of the new ladies!
Sending love and hugs to all of the ladies in this group! I am reading posts and sending out positive vibes to all! I am also sending out love, hugs, and compassion as we all seem to be navigating loss, health issues, aging issues. Boy! Where was the "life pamphlet" that explained all of this?!
Lisa hit the nail on the head, stating that I am running headlong into spring. Trying to get my house clean, and ready for spring/summer, trying to get my backyard and play areas up and running for my childcare, trying to organize the historical event that I work on each year, and trying to summon the energy and brain power to "up" my childcare business. I am so tired, but I can't relax or get good sleep because I have so many ideas and "wants" that I really want to add to my business. Remember that movie "Awakenings" with Robin Williams and Robert De Niro? The description that is used to describe the Parkinsonian like tremors that the patients experience, feels like where I am at right now. Where the tremor is moving so fast that it the movement is "frozen" and the patient is locked in stasis. I think I need to talk to my family (sibs and nieces and nephews) and my provider reps/trainers and see if they can shed some light on how to organize and accomplish my goals.
In the meantime, I am getting more walks in with the kids. My weight is at 249. Which is down a bit. I haven't been under 250 in a few years.
Light and love to you all! Healing thoughts to those who need it. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)10 -
KJ - I do worry about you. Please ask for any help you can get.
Annie - Love the tea party idea. I bought a fascinator for a WI 'hat' party. Haven't worn it since, but it was great fun. Afternoon tea is still a big thing in hotels etc over here. People buy vouchers for presents. We went to Claridges once, courtesy of John's elder daughter. It included a glass of champagne. They were a bit surprised when we asked for extra sandwiches, but I'm not much of a cake person.
With John out, I washed the seat covers on my sofa. Plus two of the cushion covers. I will do the back covers another time. Plus descaled the kettle. I used the boiling vinegar water on some path weeds!
I also put a red wine beef stew on to cook. The meat wasn't completely defrosted, but I did an initial 5 minutes in the IP, and then gave it a stir and carried on with the normal cook. I will have a look in a minute and put a few new potatoes in there for John. When he is at cricket, I have to think of a meal that is easily served at two different times. I faint away if I don't eat at 6 pm.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -
Well, turned the air conditioner on for the first time this year. It got it 90 degrees yesterday and it is predicted to do that again today. Bright blue skies and no humidity. Beautiful outside. The sun heated up the RV to where we ran the air for a couple of hours at night to cool it off for sleep, then the heater for a couple hours during the night b/c it dropped to mid 40’s outside. Spring weather is so unpredictable! No matter where in the US I lived, we went through the same thing. Air conditioner during the day and heat at night. Fun! Hitting my allergies however. The beach was busy last evening! First really busy Saturday of the year! At least no police or ambulances this past weekend. Easter weekend, we had police here for a woman who hit our Ranger who wanted her to show her $5 entry receipt and she refused. She hadn’t paid. Well now that $5 fee has gone up to $83 for failure to pay, plus whatever the charge is for battery on a law enforcement officer and refusing to cooperate. I simply don’t understand these people. $5 is the cheapest fee I’ve seen across the US for entrance fees. And that is per car not person!!
Today is supposed to be the same nice weather, so we should be busy again after noon. (Sunday mornings are always slow due to church goers). I really hope this season will be more peaceful than last year…..
