Iโm a little confused, can one of you help. So, I did a body scan at my gym yesterday (first time). My basal metabolic rate is 1193. Iโve been eating 1,200 calories, and as you guys have seenโฆ some weeks I lose, some weeks I gain, and when I lose, itโs very little (a couple oz).
So my understanding is that you have to cut 500 calories per day in order to lose 1lb per week. Does this mean in order to lose at rate of 1lb per week I have to cut 500 from 1,193 per day?!?! ๐ซฃ. So, 693 + whatever I burn when I work out. Am I understanding this right?

BMR is only the caloric burn you require to surviveโฆ this doesnโt take into account ANY activity you do. Iโm sure you donโt just lay in bed all day doing nothing. Youโre fine with limiting to 1200 calories.4 -

Total loss for April: Eight pounds. Nice loss in January. Very stable all through February. Slowly up in March. Now finally slowly going back down in April. I am right at the upper end of my "ideal" maintenance range, and just higher than the middle of my absolute maintenance range. That's good! I am down 7.3 pounds for the year.

04/01-DNW-(Trend Weight: DNW)-
04/07-DNW-(Trend Weight: DNW)- I hate that I could not weigh today. However, I was stuck in the ER until 11:00 last night with my foot. It swelled up, was red and was horribly painful. The hospital suspected a blood clot but after much testing (Xray, CT scan, Ultrasound Dopplers and Blood work), they determined it must be diabetic neuropathy. Strange, I always thought that was like a phantom pain, not actually such a horrible physical thing. So today I remain a club foot and will have to keep it elevated. I knew the size would skew my weight so I will come back in a few days and add a weight when things have stabilized. Until then, enjoy your week my friends. The weather here in Michigan is improving!
04/14-181.0-(Trend Weight: 181.4)- While I did pretty well in February, March was not a good month for me and April (so far) is not faring any better. My hunger has been outrageous, my cravings have been horrendous. I think my body is fighting the losses I had in the months prior. I have a serious lack of exercise going on due to the severe foot problem. Itโs s..l..o..w..l..y getting better so I am hoping I can incorporate a little more movement this week. Lots of travel this week for some important medical appointments. One appointment is an 8 hour round trip. I will try to get some movement in on the days that I can. Weather got bad again with some snow this past week but is slowly improving now at weeks end in northern Michigan. I saw a Robin yesterday.

I have no idea why I wrote that my total loss for April is eight pounds. I can do math. It's 0.8 pounds. Eight tenths of a pound, not eight pounds. That's not just an error, it's an order of magnitude error!
The 7.3 pounds for the year is correct.

๐ My MIL who lives with us went by ambulance to the hospital on Monday, had emergency cardiac surgery, and is now in CV ICU. This week has been incredibly stressful, and I am doing what I have always doneโฆ dropping everything I need to do for me to help everyone else. So, no walking and not eating right.
The last time I went hard in the paint to lose weight and was successful, my son was diagnosed with cancer and we were in the hospital for 4 months. Now, Iโm trying to do it again, I was successful last month in meeting my monthly goal. Now, my MIL is in the hospital indefinitely. What is God trying to tell me? Am I not supposed to lose weight and be healthier?6 -

Cheat meal? Who did you cheat? Why not think of it as a TREAT meal. It only happens every now and then, and that's fine. You're still losing at a pretty fast rate - five pounds in two weeks when you're only in the mid 150s is not really sustainable. It might even explain the desire to go off the rails and have that treat meal. General guidance is to aim for no more than 0.5% to 1.0% of your weight per week, and more towards the lower end if you don't have much to lose. That would be less than a pound a week for a good goal. Just think about it. You get to decide!2 -

Iโm sure God is not telling you that youโre not supposed to be healthy. One thing Iโve learned is that nobody can carry everyone around them. Can you reach out to other family members for support, both for your MIL and for yourself? Can others take some โhospital shifts,โ or if youโre going to be the primary person to deal with the hospital, can someone in your circle of friends & family help you with your food?
Also, it is important to find a few minutes for yourself every day, yes even in a crisis. Perhaps there is a park near the hospital where you could go for a 10-minute walk before you go in to see your MIL? Or try a guided meditation on Youtube before bed? We have to take care of ourselves if weโre going to care for others. Nobody has an unlimited supply of energy to give and give. Take care of yourself โค๏ธ

Went glamping in our travel trailer for 5 days and I was cognizant of bringing decent snacks for the most part. Homemade guacamole, and chips and salsa, cut vegetables and ranch, and some almond crackers and hard cheeses and nuts. Did have a couple choco chip cookies and some wine. But eating on the road isnโt always healthy and easy on me. I cook at home most of the time and love my routine. It was warm and sunny so we did get 10k steps in on a couple of days and came close on the others. Also completed a 6-mile bike ride for the first time in years.
