Lanette – the prednisone was 6 one day, 6 the next, then 4 one day, 4 the next, then 2 one day, then 2 the next but the pharmacy miscounted the pills (or I screwed up) and didn’t give me enough for the last day. But I think I’m OK. I still have a little pain, but nothing at all like before. So it has helped and it probably will continue to help for the next few days. Maybe that did contribute to the depression. That and the fact that it rained for 2 days so I couldn’t even take my walk.
KJ – thanks for telling me to pass on the backpack. You’re right, every kid knows what they want. Never thought of a gift card. I’m trying to remember what my kids (back in the stone age...lol) needed for the first day of kindergarten. Oh, yes, it can be pricey to visit grandchildren. We don’t have to fly, but the last time we went up there for a few days it cost us over $800. Between food, hotel, someone to watch the cat(s) and give the medication. But SOOO worth it The thing is, this time we will need to go back up there the following week since that’s when Steve is having his picnic. But when we worked it out, it’s cheaper to drive home than to have to stay up there for the week and to top it off it’s Memorial Day weekend! At least we’ll be home for the weekend.
Oh, remember my girlfriend in Switzerland who has the tumor? Well, she’s starting chemo this week. Guess the radiation helped. Since (thank god) I don’t have any personal experience to call upon, what’s something nice to send to someone going thru chemo. Remember, she’s in Switzerland so it’s not like I can just pop in and help her with housework, etc.
We had some of the red ants so I googled how to get rid of them. One of the suggestions was white vinegar. So I put some where they were. They did scurry a bit, but I guess the next time I cut the grass and disturb that area, I’ll know if the vinegar worked.
Rita – I really don’t like the weather when you need pants in the morning, shorts in the afternoon, then the pants again in the evening. But as long as it isn’t raining, I’m OK. Even tho I don’t like changing clothing all the time
Debbie – so THAT’S what dragon fruit looks like. I’ve only had it cut up

I am sure mine will never get that big-that is an old plant-.
Actually, looking at it closer- that is at least four plants that they planted around a large pole and it grows up the pole.
A few neighbors around here have them growing up an old dead tree stump/tree.
For Micelle, the pink things are the actual fruit. Can you buy the fruit in Florida?
We can get it if we go to Queensland.
M in Oz
We can buy it in Oregon, although I haven't. I am tempted to try to grow it. It would have to be in a pot and brought in during the winter, but it is very beautiful. What a deal you got, Debbie.

John 's journey home from football last night was terrible,. The main road along the coast is closed at weekends, because they are repairing a bridge. This is 4 lanes of v busy traffic, and everyone has to go the back roads. Saturday had a 4 mile jam. He didn't go then. Yesterday he took an hour to to go 4 miles.
He was delighted to eat my beef stew after all that.
In the afternoon it got a bit cold for sitting about, watching. His friend always stays at the hotel in the grounds for the whole 4 days, renting the best balcony room with a view of the ground. His wife stays with him and often visits her sister. So she went to the nearby M&S and bought scones and jam and clotted cream, and served tea in their room!
He will be going again next Friday, but the bridge will be open then. But if he goes Sunday, he will go the countryside route we used to take to visit here. County cricket is over 4 days, and he used to go to all four, but, at over 78, he finds it tiring, especially if there are delays.
Today it is blowing a gale out there, so he wouldn't have gone today, anyway.
I've put the yoghurt on to breed. Now for my exercises.

Belated welcome @Candylicious2961 and con VERY gratualtions on the new mind set, little steps and taking off more than twenty pounds!
Beth yours and Flea’s to Annie. Prayers for your mom and your family.
Lanette what you said about drivers is true here too. Guy in a Jeep on Carpenterville road waiting to turn left onto 101, pulled out right in front of oncoming traffic. Fortunately the car in front of me was able to stop before he got T-boned, and I was going slowly enough to stop without rear ending it. Smh.
Debbie I am soooo jealous of your aqua Zumba. Took it when we lived in Idaho and loved it. None here.
Through pg 29, time to snooze.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Hello all,
I hope you had a lovely weekend. Mine has been mixed. It was lovely meeting my oldest's new girlfriend and he seems happy so that's enough for me. They are both just 19 and work at the same camp, they are both outdoor activity instructors. The camp is in the middle of nowhere so they are company for each other too which is nice.
My dad is in a care home and thee review by social care showed that he is becoming less compliant with personal care. There needs to be a medication review and a multi agency meeting to look at what can be done. It's just heartbreaking what dementia does to people.
Finally the kitchen is in upheaval as the worktops need replacing. These were custom made and moulded to fit but leak at the sink. They have only been in a few months and the only option is a full replacement. It's covered by the company but I could do without the disruption.
The weather in the UK remains typical for the UK in April which means it could be anything. This morning was torrential rain and blowing a gale (44mph winds) and now the sun is peaking through. This will probably be followed by hail, then sun, then more rain. I am longing to get the garden sorted but it is going to have to wait a couple of weeks.
I love pecans however they are pronounced but we just don't get them over here. Which is probably a good thing for my waistline as I am not sure I could resist pecan pie very often.
Dragon fruit is so pretty but doesn't really taste of much to me. I would love to see it growing though. Certain fruit are so fantastic that seeing them growing does not feel real. I felt that way when I saw pineapples growing and cashews in India. So different from the vine and orchard fruits of the UK.
Have a good Monday

Rusty - We get the shelled pecans down here. I don't buy them. But I like them OK. We eat walnuts in our muesli. Hazelnuts, brazils, almonds. Seeds. Fruit, berries. John does all the chopping. And the shopping for them.
Yes, it's been absolutely lashing wind and rain! Now it's stopped. I want John to go up to the post office to pay in my cheques, so I hope it stays clear.
This morning, while I was exercising, I got a call from an unknown number on my mobile. I don't answer those numbers,as anyone who really wants to talk to me will leave a message. I could see it was London. A few minutes later the same number rang again, so I answered it. It was the bank where I was closing my account in order to pay for my operations. They were enquiring about the form I sent them, but all is fine. How unusual for a bank to be so punctilious about helping me. It's a small savings bank, guaranteed by the government. Rare these days.
I said I may be reinvesting the rump of the money with them, and John wants to piggyback on my account. I like that you can easily talk to a real person.
Not sure I'm over the UTI. I'll give it until tomorrow, and then phone the doctor.

Good Monday,
Crazy busy with work. Head mechanic in hospital with pneumonia last week after another mechanic took him to ER as head mechanic wouldn't go on his own! I don't understand. If sick, go to doctor....Apparently his whole family has been sick. SMH. This is the same man that my DH use to ask me if he had eaten. My response was that he was a grown man and I wasn't his mother or wife. Why was it my responsibility? Just SMH.
Went to Kentucky, relaxed. Met oldest daughter and family for dinner on way down. Was nice. Finally caught up with all of you this morning. Did go to cruise in with oldest granddaughter yesterday evening. After which we met friends at Dairy shed. One couple's dog had a seizure while there. They took him to emergency vet. He was released last night like nothing happened.
Eating and drinking were awful last week. Trying to get back into swing of things. Feeling off kilter. Too much crap food, not enough water or movement. Just exhausted after work. Plus working an extra 3 hours at home each night and another 90 minutes in the morning trying to stay caught up. Excuses but reality in a family mower shop in the spring.
Massage tonight, hair appointment Thursday, trying to get to Indiana Saturday for a surprise party, Sunday is youngest grandson's 16th birthday. Busy week again.
Welcome to the new ladies! Lots of support here!
Healing thoughts continue for those in pain.
Comfort for those suffering losses and those that are caring for loved ones.

Good morning ladies!
Tracey my Dad doesn't have a doctor who knows him well enough to revoke his driver's license. His primary care doctor quit, and they are using temps.
Welcome Karen in BC!
Rusty sorry you have challenges with your Dad.
My dad convinced me to see Camelot yesterday at a small community theater. Great fun. The singing was excellent.
So today is a quiet day. I might work on Dad's beneficiaries. It would be best to use the trust, but I'm not sure how to do that, and some accounts don't allow it. I really do trust my sister anyway. She is the executor and the trustee.
I'm a little discouraged with my diet. My friend lost 14 pounds with an injection medicine. I'm trying not to compare us, but failing. It's going to take me months to lose that much.
Have a great day ladies! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Weird day at work when a distant work colleague who I have very little to do with announced a review of everything I do in a draft minute to exec. which she had not been authorised to write. In a meeting we had agreed to inform exec about one particular point, which was fine ... then she ran with it and filled a couple more pages with inaccurate nonsense. This is not the first time she's done this sort of thing and I'm not sure what to make of it.
More ...She has no idea what I do.
I have tried to tell her what I do.
She doesn't want to know what I do. I've offered to show her on several occasions and she has turned me down.
She blatantly (and inaccurately) criticises my work to my face in working groups I am a part of and emails I am included in as though she doesn't know the work she is criticising is my work.
Yet I have told her it is my work several times.
In the working group, if I try to explain some element of what I do to the group, she'll talk over me and either change the subject or tell everyone something inaccurate about my work ... only it's like she doesn't know it is my work because she doesn't refer to me, she just refers to the things I do as though someone unknown does them.
Fortunately the chair of the working group hears me and tries to interject to let me speak.
Today this distant work colleague was trying to explain to me in emails that "someone" creates these reports and they need to be reviewed because no one knows what's going on with them and I was trying to explain to her that I create the reports and lots of people know what's going on with them ... but she didn't seem to get it.
Then she'll either come by and tell me or send a separate email to tell me that I'm doing a great job, an absolutely wonderful job, and I can rest assured that all her comments have nothing to do with me. ?!?!?!?!And then today after we had an email discussion about her draft minute, she messaged me and my manager to say that my (very polite - I was careful) comments are just the motivation she needs to quit her job!! WOW!
Messages like that have one reaction from me ... "don't let the door hit ya, where the ... ", maybe you know the rest of that saying. I didn't write that ... I just ignored her and went out and bought socks with bees on them.
Later, before my manager had a chance to read it, she deleted the message.
I've come across all sorts of people, but this is a new one for me. Fortunately my manager and several other (very puzzled) people know about it.
Just weird!

Machka - I often find other people's motivations baffling, but I have a feeling that lady is telling you exactly what she wants to have happen. She wants to quit working, but is afraid to, for whatever reason. That leaves her searching for a way to justify it, and using you as the ostensible reason why, so she's not just quitting for no reason. Possibly setting up an unemployment claim? She may not even know that herself. Please note that I'm not exactly an optimist where people are concerned in working situations, so you can take all that with a big, honking grain of salt.
Ginny - I believe that the active ingredient in Uquora Flush, d-mannose, is what Heather swore by for quite some time to ward off UTIs. There are some good reviews of it. They have others, noted in that linked review.
Annie - Don't forget that your friend who lost 14 pounds will have to keep taking the expensive injections or the weight will come right back. It changes nothing except her current weight. You, on the other hand, are trying to change your body with exercise and eating well as a more lifelong solution. I'm not saying "don't do it," but want to say that, having had the gastric bypass nearly 20 years ago now, after the six-month honeymoon period with no appetite at all, the appetite came back. I was 303 when I had the surgery, within a little over two years, dropped down to 137. But three times since then, I've been as high as 219. The surgery fixed one thing, the ability to eat large amounts at a time. Didn't fix the way I thought about food, and didn't fix my overall drive to eat. All the injections do is give you that same kind of honeymoon, they don't fix anything. But again, I'm not giving advice, just information.
Kylia - Your warmies and other stuffies may be more of a thing than you know. This is a link to something they're calling "kidulthood." Apparently a lot of adults are enjoying their childhood friends.
Tracey - You will do so well... I have no doubt you will ace the practicum. I look forward to hearing about it!
Zero plans for today, just the usual Monday morning chores. Nothing on my schedule until Thursday, so a few quiet days stretching out in front of me. Hope everyone has a good week...

I also think she does want to quit. She has missed a lot if work in the past 6 months so may be quite behind. She's supposed to run 2 working groups with meetings once a month. We have had 2 meetings in 6 months for 1 group and 0 meetings in 6 months for the other because she keeps cancelling them. I have actually forgotten what the 2nd working group was for it has been so long since we met ... might be more than 6 months.
Maybe she feels completely lost about what she is supposed to be doing that she is grasping at straws. It just dawned on me about half an hour ago that 2 items she put in that draft minute were dealt with almost a year ago. I couldn't figure out what she was talking about and then it finally came to me while I was doing a Sudoku this evening.
Who knows. But at least my manager knows what is happening and supports me.

Don't even consider that injection medicine that starts with an O! The side effects are awful so people have said. It makes you feel full by numbing your digestive track I've heard. We love you, don't ever be swayed!

@Tracey I have planted potatoes and peas both in containers. If you want a decorative, edible plant, try sweet potatoes (yams). They make a very pretty vine and are easy to grow in containers. When I find a potato or sweet potato with an ‘eye’ that has a small sprout on it, I cut out the sprout with a little ‘meat’ of the potato and plant that. They normally come up nicely. I’ve done it with sweet potatoes too. Here in New Mexico, I can get 2 plantings of both potatoes and peas.
@Michelle, is it possible to look up places in Switzerland to find something you could buy over the phone and have delivered to her? Food perhaps, or even hire a cleaner for a day or two for her. You may even be able to find hair dresser, mani-pedi, or other niceties for your friend.
NatGeo for kids was a big hit with my grandsons at that age. I also signed up through Amazon for a STEM project kit that got delivered monthly (age appropriate too). I think Dad got more fun from those kits, but he did them with my GS so both had fun. Now, I send gift cards. That was always a big hit. Especially for Amazon as kids love getting mail!

Yesterday, the ranger supervisor (RS) opened the pay booth for entry to the lake. He said he would call be to take over for his lunch. He wasn’t even there for 30 minutes before he called me over. He then was gone for over 3 hours! I didn’t mind, except that I hadn’t eaten yet and DH had made Sunday dinner of steak, pan fried potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, sautéed greens, and another veggie for some reason, I can’t remember what it was?? I did ask DH to wait until at least 1:30 to start the steak (which he waited a little longer) as I kept him informed of the ranger’s whereabouts. It was really busy, so I couldn’t leave the booth. Glad I did bring water with me!! It got to 95 degrees out yesterday with no humidity. Booth is air conditioned and has a fan, so I was comfortable. People were nice too, and I figured out how to use translator for the Spanish speaking people, with enough Spanish on my own to get by. Advantages of living in New Mexico! (And Duolingo!).
Once I finally got home, DH had just finished cooking the steak so I got to have everything fresh and warm. However, a front tooth fell off my partial plate onto my lap without warning! I found the missing tooth and have both ready to go to dentist today. This partial is less than a year old!! I found my old one (I am very uncomfortable with missing front teeth) which has sharp edges and is over 20 years old to use in the meanwhile. Trip to dentist later today. I’m just glad it fell off at home. (The steak had nothing to do with it as I didn’t bite into it!). The missing tooth looks like it had a crack and just came away from the base. Poor manufacturing I think. They just don’t make things like they used too! (I haven’t had my front teeth since I was 18, so I really rely on this partial!).
I will insist it be fixed free as the age of the plate is too new and my 20 year old plate can be used for comparison! So I’m geared for a fight!! LOL 🤺

Hi all,
The weekend weather was gorgeous. Made the extra dog walk a pleasure. The fluff asked for one...and why not. Sunshine and good breeze. Also able to connect with a friend I haven't seen since before the holidays in December. It was really nice catching up with her.
Sue in Wa. I second whoever mentioned keep good notes. Crazy or not, it could be pesky if it turns into "you said, they said." Showing the communications can bring clarity in a contested situation. But also...yeah. They sound out there. Sorry you are dealing with that.
RV Rita - I don't have any coloring books but I do think it is a lovely way to relax. Nothing serious...just chance to let your mind do something with color and design.
Kevrit-worth talking with your doc about modifying prescriptions. Maybe the drug boosts appetite or maybe it is a stress response. There could be other ways to approach that meet your needs. Not everyone does the same path. Be true to your needs.
Annie in Delaware - The good thing is that you are identifying patterns that make your goals harder to achieve. It sucks to look back and recognize something that undercut...but it is useful information. Sometimes it lets you have determination to not do it in the future, or to choose different foods that better serve you. Information gives you power.
Rusty - Hi! Welcome.
Everyone else-thanks for sharing and being part of the work.
FYI. I hate the get up without hands task. I know the cool way is to just be able to practically levitate upwards, but I don't have that kind of all around strength. I can get up, but it is a bit of work to reposition without my hands. Not graceful.
-Anna in Michigan5 -
Rita - beautiful photos of the park where you're staying. That water looks very inviting - sounds like summer is kicking off early. Yikes! These days I complain if it hits 70. Hope you are feeling better these days now that you've gotten meds readjusted. Wow that park ranger took a LONG 30 minutes. Hope your visit to the dentist gets that tooth fixed and at no cost.
A new look at carbohydrates - Remember when carbs were classified as "simple" (things like white sugar) or "complex" (maybe starchy vegetables or fruits that had fiber)? Dr. Jason Fung gives a different perspective on carbs in this video, and an in-depth look at resistant starches. Maybe some of the carbs we thought were bad weren't so bad after all... Interesting info for those of us trying to lower carb intake in our diets. 13 minutes.
Goal is to plant onions today - they are going into containers. Really did well last year growing them like that, most of them reached "boiler onion" size which is perfect for me. I planted yellow and red "storage" onions last year, and still have a supply in the garage that are in good shape. Onions and Tomatoes in buckets or containers will be the extend of my small garden this year.
Make it a wonderful week!

Debbie in Napa Valley, CA 153.4 this morning- Up a pound from last week(after going down 2 pounds) Tracked all week and did extra steps. Will keep it up and hopefully it will be down next week. I won't be home next weekend to check in- weekend at mom's to finally get her greenhouse planted.
Kylia in Ohio - Another crazy week and scale not happy. The only thing that sounds good is sugar! Up .5 pound. Just a wake up call. I've got this as I have an awesome support system here! Have a good choice week!
Rita in Roswell, NM - Up from last week. This has been a bad year so far. Gained over 11 pounds so far. I really need to get a handle on this. I’ve done it before, I can do it again!!
Evie on Vancouver Island BC - Not a good weigh in this morning, but I expected as much. I’d been craving Chinese food for a few weeks so, as we were out later in the day anyway, I suggested we stop at one of the local grocery stores that has a Chinese kitchen. It was really good and definitely soothed the cravings, but I’m up 1.4 lbs from last week. Oh well, back on the wagon today!
Lanette in SW WA State – Celebrating weight staying stable at lower end of my desired range. Signed up for Pre-Diabetes classes thru Medicare at a regional hospital (Zoom) starting in May.
