@martaindale glad you were able to get out a little and feeling a little better.
@ContraryMaryMary congrats on the HM. The venue looks really cool!4 -
@chris_in_cal The big question is, did that motivate you to sign up for it next year? Love the picture. I just love seeing people older than me still running.
Congrats on your cool HM @ContraryMaryMary . Do you know why they downed those trees? It looks so sad and would be hard mentally to see how far you were going. Otherwise, looks like a beautiful course and love the pictures along the river. Glad you had a great weekend.3 -

Rare moments at home, mostly shower and get things I need. My mom was moved to rehab Friday night and it has not been easy or pleasant. It is stress, struggle and confusion. I am exhausted.
I had to be at home today because of all the things in this world, I have to get ready for a colonoscopy in the morning. Yes, I thought about canceling it, but I have put this off since 2016 when they found a polyp. Every time I leave my mom, she thinks I am not coming back and I have to start back at square one with her mind.

I had actually already had it ready when I did the last month, so went ahead and posted.8 -
@ContraryMaryMary Absolutely stunning photos! Such a beautiful spot for a race. Congrats!
@AlphaHowls All the internet hugs for you and your mom. Things seem very hard right now and I hope they get better soon.4 -
I feel a lot better today and I was able to sleep well last night. I haven't had any meds today with just a little stuffiness hanging on. The coughing is also getting better but not totally gone. However, my sense of smell has slowly dwindled throughout the day. I was hoping I wouldn't get this particular symptom but no such luck. I'm noticing my food is tasting more and more bland as the day wears on. I hope this doesn't last long.
I went for another walk with my husband today, a little over 2 miles, and felt fine. I also did meal prepping today. I did simple recipes and took breaks between cooking sessions. The fatigue is a doozy! I hope you feel basically normal tomorrow based on my improvement today but won't be returning to work until Thursday based on our current guidelines, which are pretty strict.9 -
Hugs @AlphaHowls . I hope your test goes well tomorrow. Great job with keeping up your streak given the circumstances. Are you staying at rehab with your mom? Thanks for going ahead and posting next month's thread. Hang in there!
Glad you are feeling some better today @ContraryMaryMary and able to get out for a walk. Just don't overdo too fast.2 -

I ran 10 miles this morning. It was only 62°F when I started out, but there was 100% humidity. I didn't run any actual trails, but I did run all of the dirt roads in the cemetery and some dirt paths at the park. I tried to stay off the pavement as much as possible and also ran the hill at the park. It was a good run. But felt tough, like a good workout. I did see some cute baby goats today. And a turle crossing the road.
@contrarymarymary Congrats on your race. What a lovely setting.
@martaindale Sorry about your sense of smell. Hopefully you'll be back to 100% soon.
@alphahowls So sorry things are so hard with your mom. Lots of hugs to you both. I'm glad you are taking care of yourself too. Your mom needs you to stay healthy.

Hi everyone!
Ciao from Napoli.
@AlphaHowls sorry to hear about your mother.
@ContraryMaryMary well done! What a beautiful run!
@martaindale hope you recover from the 'Vid soon.
Got in 4.04M yesterday and 3.75M today.
I've been such a fat b*st*rd here.
Napoli - not a particularly pretty city. At all. If your default setting is Venice or Amalfi or Lake Como - you will be bitterly disappointed. That said... It does have two things going on here... Football ⚽ and food 🍕
Food p0rn pics...The main one... Pizzeria Da Michele (apparently oldest one, and featured in Eat Pray Love)
Then they do 'deep fried' pizzas here too 🤦🏽♂️
Been drinking a lot...
cdn.net/5021879/uploads/editor/ys/7jh4ibatrvb9.jpg
And then the sweet stuff... Sfogliatelle is the pastry that's most famous here. Like a crispy and crunchy on the outside croissant 🥐, but filled with either a sweet custard type filling ... Or my favourite, pistachio.
Flying back later.10 -
So sorry you’re having to deal with so much right now @AlphaHowls. Sending hugs. Congratulations on hitting six years streaking, and thanks for sorting the May thread.
And hugs for you too @martaindale, I hope your sense of smell comes back quickly. Take your recovery slowly - listen to your body. Mine was very clear on when I should start running again and how fast I should go (not fast at all as it turned out). Here’s hoping you bounce quickly.
I’m feeling hungry looking at your photos @tarun_yadavA. You’re going to have to run a fair way to burn it all off. Just as well you love running!
@quilteryoyo, the mountain bike park is in a commercial forest - those trees have been harvested. They’ll no doubt replant soon, and with the speed radiata pines grow over here, they’ll get to about 10 metres tall in six years. They get harvested after 25-30 years. It’s awesome that they let the public use the forests this way - my local forest that I run in regularly is also commercial and one day I’ll lose my leafy cover, which will be sad.7 -
@AlphaHowls amazing streak! But big hugs going out to you and your mom.
@martaindale glad you are recovering well, but loss of smell/taste is a real bummer. Hope it isn't a long-term symptom.
@tarun_yadavA looks like your Italian getaway was a hit. Hope it was as enjoyable as it looked.
Got home from ATL last night. Was a fun trip, but dog tired this morning. It was a real struggle to get out of bed at 3:30. But got in 6.2 miles. Yowza, 64F, 00% humidity and DENSE fog. That was not pleasant.
9 -
@ContraryMaryMary great trail run - looks lovely! Beautiful photos!
@AlphaHowls continued prayers and hugs your way. Amazing streak! Hope colonoscopy results are good. Extra, extra prayers for your mom.
@martaindale glad to hear you’re on the road to recovery. Good you’re getting some walks in, but try not to overdo it. It does take a while for the body to recover from COVID.
@SummerSkier great running this month! And you as well @kgirlhart - already exceeding your April goal!
@tarun_yadavA glad you’re enjoying Italy - including all that great tasting food!
@Scott6255 nice that you had a fun trip! Great job getting a 10K in so early and in fog!
Folks, I’ve lost track of my runs. I think I left off with last Tuesday’s walk with the hubby.
I had also gotten a 1.5 mile walk in a bit later that day. He was too tired to do another round in the neighborhood. Did a mile in walking pass on Wednesday evening. The ok Thursday off and did 1.5 miles Friday morning. Didn’t officially keep track of walking miles yesterday, but took several roughly half mile walks around old town Williamsburg yesterday while my husband participated in their art show all day.
Estimated total for April:
Not gonna make it to 50.
7 -
@quilteryoyo no, I don't have a brace like that but it's been getting much better. I still feel it a little, but it's definitely on the mend. Congrats on winning your tennis match last Wednesday! Hauling and stacking wood sounds like quite a workout. I love jigsaw puzzles. If I see one out I have a hard time walking away until it's done.
@martaindale so sorry about the covid bug finally catching up to you. Hopefully it's a quick bout and back to running soon.
Nice shoes, @Laurz9191 ! That 100km cycle race sounds painful to me but I'm not used to riding.
@ContraryMaryMary Congrats on the trail race! The setting looks beautiful, as do the falls. Is that your sister in the pool with you? If so, which one is you and which one is she? I'm going to guess you're on the right (as we look at it).
Hugs to you, @AlphaHowls . I've been in a similar situation and it's so, so hard.
Great pics, @tarun_yadavA ! THat's a lot of calories to run off, but so worth it.
I have no runs to post yet. I was going to run yesterday but was so tired from working all day on the boat on Saturday. Friday night was date night. My wife and I went to see Sierra Ferrell, a singer we both love. Work still sucks and will for the foreseeable future. Not sure how I'm going to balance work with training for my next two races.7 -

Yes, I’m on the right. The blonde is my friend Kirsty who we’re convinced is part mountain goat - she finished 40 minutes ahead of me and was 9th woman home. My other friend Anna is also speedier than me. However, only two years ago I could beat them both in a road half marathon - Kirsty’s gotten faster (although I’ve never been able to beat her on trails) and I’ve gotten slower 🙁.
I’m also a few years older than them, so Kirsty and I both got 3rd in our age group (should I tell you there were only five 50-59 year olds and about 20 in 40-49?) 😁7 -
Hi everyone! So yesterday was my 100km bike race. As you probably all know, I don’t spend much time biking, because I just love running soooo much. However, when there is such a big event in my city and all the streets are closed just for the race, it is hard to resist signing up for a 100km race…
From the marathon training I felt really cardiovascularly fit, the whole race- even on the climbs! But man, my legs became jelly on the climbs because running doesn’t give you that kind of muscle (unless you are running up and down mountains like @eleanorhawkins ). The conditions were good, like last year, and I bested my time from last year by 5 minutes, which was the only goal I had set for myself in the race.
I am excited to get one more day of running for the month in tomorrow and see how my legs are doing after yesterday’s effort.11 -
@AlphaHowls I wish you and your mother the best! I hope her rehab is going well. It sounds like a horrible situation for both of you! You are doing all that you can to be there for her!
@martaindale Fingers crossed you continue to feel better get all you smell and energy back again soon!
@Scott6255 Wow! 3:30 to run! That’s soo early! Good job motivating yourself out of bed.
@tarun_yadavA I hope you guys had a great time, even if it wasn’t in the “greatest” city. It looks like you found enough food to try .
@ContraryMaryMary Nice pictures. That does look like it would be a daunting course to see from a distance! I hope you are happy with how it went!
@quilteryoyo I’m sorry you lost your match but I’m glad you still had fun!
@7lenny7 The bike ride was somewhat painful for certain areas , but as long as I don’t get on a racing bike again soon I am fine.
2 -
Nice running @kgirlhart . I'm sure those baby goats were adorable!
Great running while on vacation @tarun_yadavA . The picture of you and the wife is so cute. I've never heard of deep fried pizza....sort of looks like a huge calzone! Hope you had a safe trip home.
@ContraryMaryMary That's interesting. I'm surprised they would harvest them all. Seems like it would be bad for the soil and cause a lot of erosion. Glad you do have great places to run though.
@Scott6255 I'm glad you had a great trip and doubly impressed that you got up early this morning for a run! You did great.
Glad your arm is feeling better @7lenny7 . Sorry work is going to get in the way of your training. Hop you can figure it out.
Congrats on your bike race @Laurz9191 ! Great job beating last year's time by 5 min! Amazing.

@ContraryMaryMary - Did you say had an earthquake! That would frighten the bejesus out of me!
Yes! Two of them. We were on the third floor so really felt them. And so noisy. I've been in lots of earthquakes, and the more I experience, the more I hate them. My heart was racing - a pre-run workout if you will. Horrid.6 -
Morning all
Got in 4.36M (at 09"47).
140.9 for April (4 days off), 600 up for 2024.
8 -
@quilteryoyo thank you! Yes! Back to it!
@Laurz9191 no... I mean, I knew what I was going for... Watch Napoli V Roma ⚽ and just eat eat eat!!!
Wife has been Italy many many times... But it's mostly been quite 'sanitised' eg Venice, Rome, Lake Como, Amalfi etc.
Napoli... Is not that. Lol.
I mean... There are parts of that city that are very much non-Dubai,Abu Dhabi Middle East or India.Like, some of the narrow roads.
Ambulance couldn't get through. Knocked this guy's stuff over... Good solid 5 mins. Full stereotype Italian shouting swearing and hand gestures (patient probably might not have made it)
Oh, and as for this gem... Lol 😂
If you know you know
At times hard to believe you were in a western G8 country4 -
@tarun_yadavA - We came across these loos a few times in little towns in France too. My husband loves to tease me about them because I found them a traumatic experience and the very last resort!2
-
6.5 sweaty icky miles this morning. But made monthly goal by the skin of my teeth. Hopefully May will allow more time to run.

@AlphaHowls amazing running! 🙌🏽
@Mari33a France?! Wow. Wouldn't have expected to see those there!
Saw those in two places... Dinky hole-in-the-wall bar Caffe type place in the old town and then at the Maradona Stadium.
Lol @ last resort. Agree!
Ok I guess for a bloke for a number 1 if you're standing up, I guess.
Shudder to think otherwise... 😱3 -
@tarun_yadavA - We came across these loos a few times in little towns in France too. My husband loves to tease me about them because I found them a traumatic experience and the very last resort!
Same! I think the one that I encountered was in Naples.2 -
Finishing the month with 68.51 miles. Short of my 90 mile goal. I was completely unmotivated to run or work out at all this weekend. I did some painting at a house my dad is renovating so at least I had some purposeful movement. Congratulations to everyone who worked hard to accomplish their goals! On to May!
Yikes @ContraryMaryMary – I don’t know whether to congratulate you on the Trail HM or give my condolences on the earthquakes! Those falls are gorgeous! Looks like a great weekend - great photos!
Glad you are feeling better @martaindale. Hope the taste and smell return quickly.
Continued prayers for you and your mom @AlphaHowls. You continue to amaze and inspire me with all that you have going on and still keeping that streak alive.
Great food pics @tarun_yadavA – I would not be able to resist the cannoli.
Congratulations on your bike race!

Back from holiday in Azerbaijan. Had two runs since then, and am still tired. I now know that a nighttime flight is not for me as just one missed sleep kicks in so badly. But anyway, running is, like every after a break still not good but I hope things will be better tomorrow.8
