@jan110144 The huli huli chicken sound like a good alternate chicken recipe.
It's great to read that it seems that all of us are getting back into our routines.
I too am a "planner" thus the "Just for today"
So much needed rain here, however, my son and family had a flash flood in VA causing the basement to flood. Clear water, not much damage.
Just for today:
Rec Centre 45minute walk on the track. 50-60minutes weights and stretch.
Senior Centre Zoom meeting Women's Heart Health.
Have a healthy day0 -
Today I reviewed my weights since 09/02/23 when I was at my all time low and when my appetite started to kick in and get the best of me. I was faminous. Over the course of 5 months, I gained back 33 pounds, roughly half of what it took me 2 years to lose. I was determined to get back to where I was so 3 months ago, I went back on IF and eating whole foods and have now lost half of that.
I feel like kicking myself for losing control, but I understand it's a hormonal thing as the body seeks to maintain the highest weight you've been and does that by increasing your appetite. I know it will happen to me again... just don't know how to fight it when it does. What have you done?1 -
@BarbMessimer ... I think you had the right idea to go back to IF and whole foods. That seems to work best; easy enough to skip a meal or two (depending on your IF schedule) to lower overall calorie consumption plus whole foods will have lower fat and sodium and sugar just because they are not commercially processed.
I'm working on changing my second meal time. With being so much hungrier the past few months, I've taken to eating a very early supper which often, most of the time, has led to snacking late in the evening. Even though I don't snack on pastries and bagged snacks, I do end up having another meal when it's much to late in the day for me.0 -
Dinner at friend's house yesterday. Good food, but not particularly good for me as very carb laden. The type of meal that tends to lead me astray. Interesting observation is how sluggish I feel this morning, despite having a good night's sleep. Off for weekend trip early tomorrow morning.
@jonni82014 rainy here too, but nicely timed so was still able to get walks in.
@BarbMessimer you ask a very good question. Wish I could answer it. I understand that maintaining any specific eating regimen 100% of the time forever is unrealistic. What I don't understand is why it can be so difficult to get back on track fairly quickly and stay there for an extended period again. This is probably the Bain question to answer for long-term success. I wonder if that answer is fairly universal for everyone or uniquely individual?
@nsk1951 sounds like a good plan. Tried IF and just struggled with it. Closest I have been able to sustain is just no snacking after dinner. Avoiding processed food is the one thing I have been pretty successful doing.

I hope everyone is doing well. I'm back out at it.... Fertilizing and repotting plumerias. They're starting to come out of winter dormancy and putting out leaves and blooms. It's a very exciting time of the year for us gardeners. Fortunately, we've had a lot of sunny days which promotes growth and gives me time to do what I need to do to them. We're expecting rain to start on a regular basis next week and the timing couldn't be better as plumerias prefer rainwater over water from the hose. I'm glad to have something to keep my mind off eating! I made a ham and vegetable soup so no more cooking for today. Have a wonderful Wednesday everybody!0
-
@nsk1951 ... I have trouble with night-time snacking too.... Even if I have my one meal late in the day, I get unbearably hungry right before I go to sleep. I try to control myself and if I cave in, I eat something healthy... but I'm still eating and know I'd lose weight better and my health would benefit from not having that snack. It's an ongoing challenge!
@jan110144 ... You wrote, "I understand that maintaining any specific eating regimen 100% of the time forever is unrealistic. This is probably the main question to answer for long-term success. I wonder if that answer is fairly universal for everyone or uniquely individual?" I know! I felt like I needed a break after 2 years of being on the "straight and narrow"... one day led to another and a week then a month until it was FIVE months! I vow to not let that happen to me again... and will try to come up with some kind of strategy when it happens (as I know it will).
@jan110144 ... Carbs make me sluggish too. I love potatoes.... but I have to severely limit them. Once I get started, I want to eat them all the time... with butter, cheese, sour cream, fried in bacon dripping or just any way you can think of. I put some in my soup today. Yum! It wouldn't be good without them.
I hope you enjoy your weekend trip!

I was just thinking.... What would have happened instead of losing some of that weight I regained last year, if I had continued to gain? It would have been so easy. Sometimes we beat ourselves up over our "slips" but we should congratulate ourselves on our victories.1

That is finding the silver lining! It’s a much more healthy way of looking at it.

Just a quick check in. Relatively smooth drive down here yesterday. LOTS of construction, but the traffic was not that bad.
I have not seen my friend (who dates all the way back to high school) for several years. Sad how she has declined physically during this time. She has never been physically active and, unfortunately, that lack of activity is now showing. A sad reminder to KEEP MOVING!
Will do my best to get back kn track again today, but have little control over food choices. But ... Will still try to get af least 10,000 steps in so I am not totally moving backward.
@BarbMessimer I finally remembered to look up a picture of plumerias. They are very pretty!! You will need to post a Pic when they are all in bloom so we can see.

Today is a new day. I thought that yesterday would be my rest day. So much for those thoughts. A lot of running around, doing so is exhausting.
Covid Booster shot and dentist (cleaning) included.
@BarbMessimer and @jan110144 your words ring true
The weather is turning for the better. High of 26C/78.8F
I am presently in deep thought about weight gain and statins. I started statin therapy (10mg X Day) in January and have gained weight. I can't seem to lose. I am at a plateau. I don't feel that I am overeating to an extreme; if anything I am over exercising. What I do know is that I do not I have the mindset : I can dive into all foods because statins are protecting my heart. I am very angry that I am on them and do not want anything to do with them. I have not even had doctor blood work to see if they work. I will though when I get back from Europe as I do not want to rock any boats regarding my travel insurance. Health stability.
Thanks for reading my rant.
Just for today:Going for a long walk into the River Valley.
Not able to do to much in the garden as they are quite wet.
Tonight dinner Lemon Garlic Shrimp w/beans and a small salad.
Have a healthy day everyone!

@jan110144 ... I can't figure out how to post a picture. I tried for an hour the other day and then threw in the towel.0

I've been real tired and stayed inside the past few days so I'm making myself get out of the house today. Going to a cat show (I love cats) about 30 miles away. My knee is still weak from the injury so will bring my cane for balance. I think walking around will be good for me and it will be a lot of fun. I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday and wish all my "mommy friends" a wonderful Mother's Day tomorrow!0
-
@jan110144 Just above where we post our comments. Go along the along the dashboard Smiley face, chain, black paper then there is a picture a sun+mountain in a frame. The drop box will set choose a file, select a photo from your photo library (I have apple) and post This is a pic of my peonies, the garden patch is 75yrs of age. I don't know how to make the pic smaller
@BarbMessimer have a fun day at the cat show.
Just for today we are going walking in the mall as wildfire smoke from northern B.C is drifting in.
Bison Burgers and a salad for supper.
Have a healthy day. Happy Mother's Day

Like this?
Hope you had a nice walk!

@BarbMessimer Plumerias are so gorgeous, do you sell them to retailers to make leis? Too bad we don't have a "smell" feature on the Internet... yet.
Our walk was 13000.+ steps a record.
Over the next two days we are having installed a new furnace, humidifier, hot water tank and AC. The heart of the house.
Still smokey here; should dissipate by this afternoon.
Just for today: Off to the Rec. Centre short workout and walk.
1 -
@jonni82014 ... Good job on the walking. After my knee injury, I'm having to go slow but I'm working on it. Happy Mother's Day.
I sell to people in my Plumeria group but have given some thought to selling to retailers. Here's a real pretty one. I have over 250 and 150 different varieties.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY FRIENDS!1

@BarbMessimer The Plumeria farm/lot you have must be so therapeutic.
We had a real treat last night watching the northern lights. We usually don't see much of them in the city due to all the city lights however last night was great.
Just for today: Senior Centre stretch, treadmill ( still smokey) + workout.
Finish up the bison burgers for dinner.
Made a big pot of red lentil soup for a few days of lunches. Might freeze a quart.
Have a healthy day everyone!1 -
@jonni82014 ... Yes.... my plumeria "farm" keeps me sane. It makes me HAVE to get out of the house and otherwise, I wouldn't. I'd just lay around, eat and watch TV and my weight would go up and my health would go down. But there's always something to do... repotting, trimming, fertilizing, rooting new plants, organizing and arranging, taking pictures, posting comments on FB, having meetups... I could go on-and-on. I've made a little money selling them and met so many nice people. It keeps me engaged with life.
Wonderful that you got to see the Northern Lights!0 -
@jan110144 ... My books arrived. DIET SURVIVOR'S HANDBOOK by Judith Matz and Ellen Frankel... and INTUITIVE EATING by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. I especially like the handbook. I'm going to try this new approach and see what happens. I'm too old to be this fat. Need to get rid of it and improve the quality of whatever time I have left.0
-
Where is everybody? I hope this group doesn't dry up as so many others do. Please participate. Say something about how/what you're doing!
I worked all day in the yard. Lord knows how many calories I burned... Now I'm very tired and probably won't do much tomorrow. Have some good books to read (see above)... so may just take the day off and read.

Still here, reading everyone’s posts. Had a bad last couple of months and gained almost 10 lbs. started losing and living better recently. Tore a muscle in my shoulder, probably lifting weights, and had a bad bout of diverticulitis which really smartened me up to getting back on track. I realize I can’t afford these kind of slip ups. Weight gain really hurts me physically.2
-
I've been reading your post and decided I would join in. I'm 73 and still trying to eat like a teenager. And I drink way to many Cokes. I call myself a coke a holic
I'm getting back on track today2 -
I'm still here too. Been reading through the posts but have been negligent in posting. Will try to post more often.
Celebrated my 74th birthday yesterday with my husband at a very nice local restaurant. Enjoyed a steak dinner with all the trimmings plus desert. Now back to sensible eating.
Husband is starting to seed today putting wheat on one of our quarters. The other two quarters will be summer fallow. Haven't started my garden yet. My plan is to do it this weekend. I'm cutting back this year as I'm finding a huge garden along with a big yard to maintain is proving to be too much work. Looking forward to enjoying a more relaxed summer.3 -
Good day
All of our mechanical (furnace AC humidifier + hot water tank) has been installed. As mentioned the heart of our house. Good for another twenty years.
Cleanup of the flower beds yesterday, not much to do as we cleared all debris in the fall however, very awkward. Used different muscles and my body told me so.
@BarbMessimer keep us posted along the way of how you are faring doing IE
Watched a very informative ZOOM meeting presented by the Seniors Centre on Women's Heart Health last night. Next week there will be a presentation on Hearing.
I'm quite happy today (though the scale did not move) that my exercises are paying off. My breasts are getting firmer, definition on my calves, biceps and triceps. The muscles are peeking out. I really have to buckle down on Core exercises . Don't care to do them. Think plank.
One of the Exercise Specialist (Carla) mentioned that getting exercise (movement) should be treated like going to work. Show up.
Chair yoga intrigues me. I can get off of the floor without help but it is a struggle; since my hip surgery. Chair yoga helps to increase core strength.
Have a healthy day, everyone

Good morning, ladies. Looks like a cool few days in the forecast. Was +4C this morning. Was planning on getting my garden in this weekend but think I will hold off until later next week as they are predicting showers/rain for the next few days. We are very dry so the moisture is certainly needed. Hubby got half the field seeded and may try going out again in the next hour or so if the rain holds off.
Hope everyone enjoys the day.2 -
What a day!!! I woke up to someone knocking on my door.... Seems 3 golf carts were stolen during the night. Thank God they didn't steal mine. (I use it everyday to haul plants around). It was easily assessable on the driveway but doesn't go in reverse so maybe they tried but found it didn't work. (Glad I didn't get it fixed.) Police were out. Seems a golf cart got stuck in my backyard next to the creek and they were getting a truck to pull it out. They ran over a wooden pallet I had in the backyard and drug it with the golf cart and it got stuck. I'm not sure what we can do here when people come in and want to steal. I'm all in favor of making this a gated community. Man, you're not safe anywhere anymore!0

Good to see all the updates. I thought we'd lost our group. 'm going to try to be active here. It helps for me to be with other ladies my age as we experience a lot of the same challenges.
@Joy1580vb ... Hope you had a happy birthday. Steak dinner is always a good treat! I know what you mean about gardening. I had planned to cut down on plumerias as it's become a lot of work but just as soon as I thought that, I inherited about 80 from a dear friend who passed away. I guess God wants me getting outside in the sunshine and working my muscles... lol
@Melwillbehealthy ... Whenever my weight creeps back up, my health goes down... back pain, groin pain, injured knee, less strength, etc. I really have no other choice but to stick with my eating regimen if I want to have any quality in life so I understand what you mean. Diverticulitis is very painful. Glad you're feeling better now.
@nettnett72 ... Hard to believe we're not teenagers anymore. That ship sailed a long long time ago! lol Good that you're getting serious about your foods and drinks.
@jonni82014 ... I bet you have peace of mind now that you have a new furnace/AC humidifier and hot water heater. I'm sure I'll have to replace mine before too long (It's 11 years old), and I don't have the money saved for it. So.... I better start squirreling some away. I'm enjoying my books and am incorporating some of the principles. I know that I need to lose the "diet thinking" if I'm to continue on my road to better health and losing weight.
@Joy1580vb ... Cool there? Where do you live? I'm in Florida and we've already had some pretty hot days. Just had a hard rain for about an hour but then it looks clear for the rest of the day. Weather is so unpredictable. I have plants in rolling carts that I put out in the sunshine but bring in under cover when it rains so I'm always checking the radar to see what's coming. Need to do some potting but have a doctor's appointment today (Heart) so may tackle that project tomorrow.0 -
Good afternoon ladies.
Barb, I'm in Alberta, Canada (farming). It's cool today too but not raining so hubby is out trying to finish seeding the field of wheat. Should be done in about 4 hours.
Had my little 18 lb rescue dog shaved down by the groomer last week when it was warm here. Poor little thing is now finding it too cool so ordered a couple of sweaters from amazon for her. Should be here next week and I think that will make her feel more comfortable. Her hair grows back pretty fast (poodle/terrier mix). Ridiculous weather going from+27 C one week to +4 C the next.
Beautiful plumeria pics a few posts back. Would never survive our harsh winters.

Hi Ladies,
Went swimming with a friend today. Boy, everything moves easier in water.
I’m on the other side of Canada (Ontario), and it’s been a little cool here too. Raining a lot. I would love to see the Sun out, and feel its warmth. Soon I’m sure. I used to love going to Florida, but haven’t been in a long time since before Covid.0
