i keep going back and looking at that virtual exhibit. Do you think

    Phosphorus in the Boquet

Is a weaving project? It’s my favorite.

yes, the temperature scarves are just the same concept. I had heard about that kind of thing. This person just uses more kinds of data and comes up with her own different kinds of projects.

Slow and steady is good, Cat.

Made a trip to our bank yesterday (an hour away) and finally got our safety deposit box set up. Been putting it off for awhile. Had a box at our local bank but we don't deal with them anymore and prefer the credit union which is further away. Good feeling to have our documents tucked safely away. Had lunch out which was nice.

Time change tomorrow and I wish they would just leave it as is. Hard to get used to.

i agree on the time change. I don’t know one single person who likes it.

Nota time change fan here either. But our bathroom radio click never got switched over so that is one less thing to do!

The scale hates me lately and I can’t figure out why. What is the deal on these new weight loss drugs for older people, anyway? I am tired of struggling so much.

Yes, it can be so frustrating when weight loss is stalled. I know some of the new weight loss drugs say they can help with maintaining good blood pressure, cholesterol levels and blood sugar. Not sure there is enough research though on the long term effects especially for the elderly. I would be concerned about muscle and bone loss, nutrient deficiency to name a few.

i really don’t want a new drug, but I am frustrated. I think the only other way to lose weight is more severe calorie restriction, which is also not healthy long term. I will keep plugging away…

Sunny but chilly today. Walked near Lake Ontario.

Hi Cathy, I'm 72 and just came back to MFP to see how I'm doing on my nutritional needs. But I decided to check out the "new" forum and it looks pretty good. Just wanted to let you know you aren't alone here, and I was glad to see your post.

I can get help from every person's info, but it is nice to meet others close to my age.

I'll be around, so let me know how you are doing if you feel like it. Also, I love Idaho, what I've got to see of it which is mostly up in the panhandle (Ponderay, Bonners Ferry, Kootinai). Forgive the spelling if I'm off on that. I have family up there, but I was raised in Oregon, denise

Hi Cathy! Feel free to chime in any time.

I only spent a few hours in Idaho once, back in the 70s on a day trip from Yellowstone. Beautiful! But our little VW Rabbit was not fond of the hills.

Got through a depressing swimsuit buying excursion. The one I wear to the Y is loosening up too much.

Took an evening walk through the neighborhood. It was our warmest day yet!

Hi cathy. I am Cat and will hit age 72 in June. You have come to the right place if you are looking for a peer group. Welcome! 😊

yikes melody! The dreaded swimsuit tryon! With those big mirrors? I shudder at the thought. You are so brave to go there. I am trying to lose enough weight to get back into my swimsuit so I can join a water aerobics class. For a while I considered buying one of those shortie wetsuits. Our local indoor pool is 85 degree water, but I freeze in there.

I will be 72 next week.

I wound up getting a top that has a high jewel neck. So now I have one less thing to worry about sagging and revealing. Just bought a bottom off the rack and haven’t even tried it on yet—-just wanted to leave!!!

Another nice day here but tonight we will go back to cold. Getting better at breathing in yoga. Hoping it will carry over into real life.

High jewel neck sound brilliant. I get the part where you grab a bottom off the rack and leave. It was still brave.

Will you do anything special for your birthday?

We hit 71 degrees today. Down in the 40s tonight. 60s the rest of the week. I will try to make myself walk every day. Nice weather helps.

We might go put to eat on my birthday. Usually it is pretty low key. Trying to be very good about eating so the scale can handle the time out.

71 sounds heavenly! It was 30s here but we tried a walk anyway. It is supposed to hit the 60s soon.

Nice weather does help walking—you can do it!

Such nice warm weather you are both having. We are at minus 9 celcius which is about plus 16 fahrenheit. Snowing today and for the next couple of days before this cold system moves out. We were having such mild weather the last couple of weeks so hard to get used to.

New sneakers came in and are so nice. Using them to walk on my treadmill and makes a big difference. Took our little dog in for a grooming and the new groomer did such a nice job.

    Enjoy your birthday meal out.

So cold here this morning at -21 C. My little groomed dog goes out and back in very quickly. Hubby is blowing the snow right now as we had about 5 inches overnight. He thought he was done with his snowblower for the season. Looking forward to a nice warm up in the next few days.

    Enjoy the day, ladies.

Joy, I hope you get your warm up. Winter may stick around a little longer. But Spring is definitely coming.

I have decided I need some shelving to properly organize the garage. Will go look for some tomorrow.

We had a warm day! Even did some yardwork.

Scale does not like me. I am beginning to think it is my cortisol levels going haywire with current events. Hubby getting a bursitis diagnosis might have also played a role. I have been exercising and not eating much. I need to do more to calm down. I hope yoga will help.

Good luck with snow and shelving issues, ladies!

Didn't get as cold last night which was a pleasant surprise when I took the dogs out this morning. Slowly getting warmer here.

Sorry to hear about your hubby's bursitis diagnosis. Hopefully he can find some relief with treatment.

Nothing to report on the scale front as staying the same for the last 2 weeks. Last bit of a decrease was March 3rd.

  • titus2cat
    titus2cat Posts: 616 Member

staying the same on the scales is much better than gaining weight. When warmer weather comes, you can be outdoors more and I bet the scales will move again. I have heard that you don’t lose weight if you arent getting enough calories. Your body goes into starvation protection mode or something. Are you eating enough?

Went shopping at 8:00 this morning and got two sets of tall shelves. Stabbed myself with a screwdriver during assembly 🤪but I got them up and my garage is now clean and organized. Woohoo!!!

Next up is getting ready for the contractor to gut my kitchen in early April. My cabinets are finished but the contractor has to finish a current job before he gets to me. I am going to start packing up canned goods and seldom used gadgets and dishes and get that out of the way.

oh I wish someone would gut my kitchen (and bathroom!). I am angling for a certain somebody to start looking at bathroom contractors with me.

I will research about the calories.

    Screwdrivers can be dangerous!

Glad it is warming up in Canada!

Bathroom reno is on my wish list but extra funds I have are being used for travel right now. Did purchase a tub last year and it is still sitting in it's box downstairs.

As for calories, I am sticking to 1200/day which I know keeps me satisfied with 3 meals + 1 evening snack per day. Weight loss is slow but I'm ok with that.

Did a deep clean of the bathroom this morning…walls, woodwork, etc. Looks good. Finding it more difficult to reach in places though. Thinking I need to invest in a wall mop of some kind. Used a new cleaner made in Canada that is eco friendly (Mint Cleaning Products). Works good but find I am a bit stuffed up. Not sure if it is the cleaning product or dust in the bathroom.

  • oceanmelody
    oceanmelody Posts: 668 Member

it is so hard to find a good cleaning product that doesn’t cause some kind of health reaction. I had one I liked that is apparently not being sold anymore so I am back to Clorox until I find something more eco-friendly that works.
One thing I want in a remodel is a sprayer/wand to help clean the tub. We do not have the best water pressure but at least I could spray and rinse better.

The scale is almost back down but not enough from fall. Yesterday I tried to not stress about food and ate a bit more thinking I might have been messing with my metabolism by eating less.

May I ask, Joy, how tall you are? I do feel like being five foot two inches makes it harder for me to get 1200 calories in and still lose weight.

  • Joy1580vb
    Joy1580vb Posts: 652 Member

I am five foot four and on the smaller side bone structure. I’m hoping to get down to 150 pounds. Will still be overweight but it is a weight I feel comfortable at. If I go below that 1200 calories it is not sustainable for me. I need to move more so may increase treadmill time which will help.

It’s hard to figure out what the best way to get the weight down as everyone is different. You are on the right track with healthy eating and exercise. I think the main thing is to do what works best for you and don’t be in a hurry.

Ordered my wall mop so that should help with my exercise.

Melody, there is a chart for calculating body mass index for seniors which is different from the regular BMI chart. I'm not sure if you have looked at it but for my age and height, the normal weight range is 145 to 157 pounds so I think my goal of 150 is good. Overweight range is 192 and over so right now at my current 174 pounds, I am not overweight. When calculated on the regular BMI chart I am overweight and the ideal weight range is 108 to 145 pounds so there is quite a difference in how the two charts are calculated.

i mix Dawn dish soap and vinegar for cleaning. Commercial products break my hands out.

Made a doc appt for Monday. I need to find out if there is a reasonwhy I am so tired.

Good you are getting checked out Cat. I get really tired when my thyroid meds need to be increased. Have dr appt next week Friday and will ask for blood work as need to get sugar levels checked. Hopefully they are better than results in October.

Figured out I am getting stuffed up from snow mold which is my usual problem every spring.

i will look for the alternative chart!

Yes, important to get checked out. I need to schedule a few things myself.

We had summer today—high of 77 degrees. Walked along a stream in a nearby village.
