Cat, good for you! Nice to hear the scale is moving for you.

Had such a nice Easter celebration with nine people around the table. Did partake in a small glass of wine and tried a very small piece of tiramisu that granddaughter made….it was delicious! She's 25 and loves baking.

A granddaughter who cooks is a special blessing! Good for you sticking to a small portion, Joy.

cheerios in milk for breakfast and walked for an hour. Off to a good start today. 65 degrees and perfect walking weather. Now off to have a cup of tea then unpack the rest of the kitchen

May not post for a bit.

Off at the crack of dawn. Mostly packed, did chair yoga and a teeny walk. So nice to see the trees getting greener.

Enjoy your trip and look forward to hearing from you when you get back.

Was scheduled for a mammogram tomorrow but will call and reschedule for next week. Have developed a UTI so will call my doctor and have him fax a prescription to our local drug store.

Scale took another slight dip this morning so happy about that. I am now down just about 15 pounds since October.

    15 pounds is amazing!

Surgery went well and it was good to have it done. Hoping my daughter has a quick recovery.

    Enjoying my granddaughter very much.

Hope your daughter recovers well. Enjoy your granddaughter time!

Went to see a prescribing pharmacist yesterday to get some antibiotics for my UTI and asked her to get my A1C done as well. Results came in today and I am still in the pre diabetic range but it has come down since October. My A1C is at 6 (range for pre diabetic is 5.7 to 6.5). Was hoping to be under 6 but at least it is coming down. I think with a bit more weight loss and maybe concentrating on the amount of carbs I am eating will help. Will continue with my no added sugar eating plan. Haven't talked to my doctor yet but I'm sure he will be calling to go over the results. My goal is to get below 5.7 and out of pre diabetic range.

Beautiful warm day today so did my walking outside which was very enjoyable. Walked twice for 20 minutes each. Both dogs just sat back and watched me.

Did some reading on the amount of recommended carbs per day for a pre diabetic. Will be keeping track by logging my food on mfp. Not going to go low carb but keep it in the moderate range.

Found a good resource for diabetes including pre diabetes. It is a website with Diabetes Canada and has a community forum that has lots of good information and will answer questions. Apparently my A1C drop from 6.2 to 6 was actually good.

Warmish but very windy today. There is a total fire ban in our county and they have included the use of ATV's as well.

Election day in Canada so just got back from voting.

joy, I also am borderline pre-diabetic. Could you please link that website?

I am counting sugar grams and trying to stick to 25 a day. I havent really paid attention to carbs. What is a healthy range?

    Joy1580vb Posts: 653 Member

The website is Diabetes Canada Connect. I’m trying to stay within 35 - 45 carb grams per meal. The recommended amount varies a bit depending on what article you read but I think I am in the average. I don’t want to go low carb but if I keep within this limit I think it will also help with weight loss.

Not counting sugar grams because I know I’m not consuming much at all. I’m hoping to get back down to below 5.7 A1C and then be able to add the odd sugar treat into my food plan. Will take time.

Cat, just a further note about counting carbs. I subtract the fibre grams from the total carbs. For example, I had a bagel (store bought) for breakfast. Carbs on the label were listed as 41 but it was multi grain and had 5 fibre grams so I subtracted that from the 41 carb grams. Kept me under my carb grams for that meal. Fibre plays an important role in controlling diabetes.

I am paying a lot of attention to calories but need to refocus and look at all aspects regarding diabetes including carbs, fibre and protein.

You are both doing so well on researching what works. I need to get back on track with calories. Highway food is not the best. Even when we find good restaurants the calories add up.

  • Joy1580vb
    Joy1580vb Posts: 653 Member

Yes it is so very hard to stay on track when eating out. Even when I choose what I think are good options it is still over as far as calories and usually way too much salt.

On the road today for my mammogram. Will stop at the grocery store for just a few items. Need to get lettuce along with other fresh veggies. Want to start including salad with my evening meal.

We have salad almost every day, unless it is cold out, but for those days there is soup or roasted vegetables.

We did lots more yard work today. Sunny but cool. Good gardening weather!

Got my mammogram done yesterday and should have results tomorrow. No one called yet to say I need an ultrasound so that is good. I have dense tissue and sometimes require further testing if the images are not clear. They have a new updated machine so maybe that makes a difference…I'm not sure. The technician said they have to squeeze down more which ended up being painful for the my area that had surgery but got through it.

Went grocery shopping for a few items and even picked up my seed potatoes and onions. Surprised the grocery store had them.

Had a wonderful salad with supper last night. Was mindful of the dressing I added onto mine as it contains 2 grams of sugar for 2 tablespoons.

Beautiful, warm day today. Anxious to start my garden but way too early. Will hold off until a couple of weeks. Hubby will work my area in a couple of days as he will be starting to till the field for seeding.

Doing my walking outside now instead of the treadmill. Have a nice path to follow and walking briskly twice a day for 20 minutes each. Scale hasn't budged from a couple of weeks ago but expecting it to drop any day now. Keeping to my calorie count and tracking food intake. Need to up my protein and keep carbs a bit lower. Proving to be a challenge.

good job on the walking. We walked today but it sounds like rain the next few days.

Would love to have rain here as it is so dry. There are total fire bans in most of the province.

Bit of a dip on the scale. Nothing significant but I will take it. Got my mammogram results and was able to view them online. An ultrasound is recommended on the right breast as there was a small area showing a white outline that was not clear. Probably have to wait a couple of weeks before I can get in for that. Will be discussing with my dr.

hard to be patient with inconclusive results. I hope all goes well!

Rain all day as predicted. A break from yardwork.

Large fire burning out of control not too far from our county. Some 60+ families evacuated so far and others on standby. One family farm has been totally destroyed which is so sad. People were helping last night to get cattle and horses to safety and all have been moved outside of the area. House and all buildings were destroyed. Not sure the cause of the fire as it is still under investigation. Winds have finally calmed down so hopefully that will help get it under control.

Just starting to do a little yard work. Hubby is on the field today getting it ready for seeding. He worked my garden area once but said will go in there again when he finishes the field. Should be nicely tilled for me to get planting maybe later next week. Have to get tomato plants yet but have everything else.

These fires are all such tragic occurrences. So sad about the farm.

Another somewhat rainy day—managed a walk and some errands and a bit of gardening.

You are doing good with your walking commitment and I am envious of your rain!

Hubby will finish working the field this morning then set up to start seeding tomorrow. There is rain in the forecast with a shower on Thursday and looking at the long range a possible 3 day rain in another week. Hopefully that will happen.

The fire is 70% contained now but flare ups are happening due to windy conditions. I read that the fire was started by an ATV in a provincial park area.

Extremely windy here this afternoon. People are being told to evacuate close to the fire. Took a pic from our yard. Not sure if you can see it. We are about 35 miles from the fire which is again out of control. Emergency alert went out over the radio/tv. People told to prepare for at least 3 days away from home. Shelter set up to house them in a town further away.

That picture looks scary! I hope everyone will be safe. And that rain will help.

We had a nice day but it is raining again tonight. Got a walk in and a bunch of yardwork.

Fire is now totally out of control again and has jumped the river to our side. It has spread to the county next to us and more evacuations have been mandated. Our county has a large area that is our local rodeo grounds and has offered that to anyone who has cattle/horses that need to be moved to safety. The area is large and can probably accommodate about 1,000 head with paddocks that can be separated off so is perfect to use in this emergency situation. Nice to see our local officials taking the lead to offer assistance. So stressful for those affected. Firefighters have done an outstanding job on protecting buildings with only one farmstead totally destroyed.

Winds have finally calmed down this afternoon so hopefully they will be able to get this under control. In addition to the current evacuees, one town of 850 people had been told to evacuate last night as the fire spread to about one mile from the town. Haven't heard an update yet on the status of that area.

I hope the winds stay calm. It sounds just terrible. Glad that people and livestock are being helped by so many!

We have the opposite but minor problem in retrospect. Heaps of rain last night and we woke up to our crabapple split practically in two. Must have been the combo of rain and full blossoming. No insurance help because it did not hit any structures or vehicles. It gave us joy for over 30 years.

That's sad you lost your crabapple tree. We planted all the trees in our yard and I am fond of all of them. The oldest trees were planted over 50 years ago. There is one tree that should be taken down but I'm putting it off for now. It was planted on my 50th birthday so 25 years ago. It's a big weeping birch but the top has died off. It's in a perfect spot for me to sit in my lawn chair as it provides nice shade.

Had a little shower today and it has cooled off considerably. The small town of 850 people have been allowed back into their homes as that fire is now under control. The other fire is partially contained but the town is still under an evacuation alert. That is the town we are supposed to meet up with daughter and family for Mother's Day brunch at a local restaurant. Talked with my daughter yesterday and we are just going to wait and see. Reservations have been made but we will check with them Sunday morning.

Scheduled my ultrasound for next Thursday. They were able to take me right away but I postponed it due to the fact that I have to drive through the fire area. I'm sure conditions will be better by next week….at least I'm hoping they will be. Otherwise I will be making a big detour to be able to get to my appointment.

I am glad the fires are diminishing! I hope the other town will have good news too.

I love my trees too. The two maples in the front are a mess but beautiful in the fall. One really should come down but I dread it. Went walking in a fancy neighborhood to check out flowering trees and how they are placed in the landscape. Looking for ideas.

Chair yoga today and lots of yard work.
