my recipes are packed up for the kitchen remodel, but I have a very good recipe for lentil burgers that uses pink lentils.

I am having trouble eating proper portions since we have no kitchen and are eating out all the time. Portions are more than I should eat but I am weak in the willpower department.

Melody is it a Vera Wang backpack or Vera Bradley? I'm familiar with Vera Bradley and have a small cross body bag that I use when travelling.

Cat, totally agree that it is difficult to control food intake when eating out. When will your kitchen be finished?

oh yeah Vera Bradley. It looks rather psychedelic. Easy to ID.

It is next to impossible to eat out and be good. You think you are choosing wisely but no.

I would try lentil burgers but other person in house would not. Wish I could figure out a good home black bean burger that did not fall apart.

A slight dose of optimism today here in the US.

i use flaxseed for a binder with black bean burgers. Freeze for 20 minutes before frying and it helps hold them together. My recipe is packed, of course 😂

ooh, do you use whole seed or grind them?

More basement dismantling today, followed by a walk. Chilly but no rain and even a bit of sun.

Trying to finish a knitting project to give away but I am getting tired of the color combo. Gold, blue, and white. My fault because I picked them. It will be good to work on something different.

2 Tbsp flaxseed meal and 3 Tbsp water=1 egg

Hubby's birthday today so having a couple of friends over for a rib supper as he preferred not to go out. Should be a nice evening and looking forward to it.

We are having such nice weather and snow is slowly melting. Have bare patches in the yard now and I see our pear and plum trees are starting to bud out which is a bit too early.

My new carry on suitcase has arrived and will pick it up tomorrow. Hopefully measurements are correct…will be checking to make sure.

I finished the knitting and it is out of the house. It took most of the day. I only had time for a little walk.

Hoping to go to yoga tomorrow. I need to go food shopping and I have noticed I get a bit anxious there now. I hardly know how to shop these days.

We have daffodils now and the magnolias in the parks are getting restless.

did you take a picture of the knitting project?

I am trying to decide if I have enough time to make grandson #1 a sweaterbeforehis graduation party on May 31. I am slow and have arthritis in my hands.

I usually take a pic but not this time. It really wasn’t half bad when done.

I can knit fast for simple stitches, but I cannot overdo because my carpal tunnel will act up. Gone are the days when I could knit full time hours!

Got my medical done for driver's renewal. Will go in next week to the registries office to complete the paperwork.

Such nice weather now and good to finally be able to walk outside.

Decided to go to town today and do the paperwork for my drivers. Took bottles and cans to the bottle depot and hubby wanted to go for lunch at the local Chinese restaurant. Got to town and the bottle depot had a sign on the door saying sorry closed. Went to the restaurant and they also had a sign saying sorry closed. All part of living in a rural area with the closest town of 1100 people. At least the registries office was open and was able to get one thing accomplished.

sorry about all the missed opportunities!

We spent the day dealing with car problems. At least the car should be good for our drive to daughter’s house now.

The weather was miserable today. No chance to walk. Hoping for a swim tomorrow.

If this weather does not clear up soon my garden will be planted late!

sorry to hear about your car problems. Good it’s fixed.

Gardening doesn’t start here until mid May. Soil has to warm up before planting. Hubby usually starts on the fields after the first week of May and usually has the wheat seeded by around May10h.

I may just plant around the 1st of May. We are zone 6a here, but what with traveling after Easter I don’t want to plant unless I can be home to water. Vegetables are in raised beds and tables.

So gloomy and rainy today, but I did go swimming.

We are zone 3a. It can get down to minus 40 C (which is the same in F) in the winter months. I noticed that the zones have changed from when I started gardening as we were always a zone 2. Regardless have to be careful when planting as we can still get a frost early May. Some seeds also need warm soil (like corn).

Another warmish day which I am enjoying. Hope you see some sun today.

yes, sunshine today and a hike in the woods!

Hoping to do some yardwork tomorrow before rain sets in again. The zones have changed here too. Forty years ago we would still get more zero and below days and now we hardly get any.

Finally dropped 1/2 pound. Have been the same weight for about a month so hopefully this is a trend and will see more of the same.

Nice you were able to get your hike in. Still doing my treadmill but I think I can start walking a bit more outside as most of the snow is gone now. Enjoy your day.

    good for you on weight!

I spent an hour on the yard and another 50 minutes walking. A warm day.

How can there be so much cleanup to do outside when it was in good shape before winter???

You are getting lots of exercise in….good for you. Haven't started any yard work yet but will probably start after Easter.

Finally was able to take the bottles/cans in to the depot in our local town. Nice to have them out of the basement and out of the vehicle. Got $60 in my pocket for the effort. Beautiful sunny day again. Stopped at the grocery store and got some last minute things for my Easter spread. Have everything except for fruit so will ask my daughter to pick up a few different items for a fruit tray. Didn't have much of a selection at the local store and very expensive.

Bought Easter chocolate today for others plus a bit for us. Laundry, errands, a bit of sewing. No exercise, though. Hope to get in walk in tomorrrow sometime. It actually flurried this morning.

Busy getting ready for Easter Sunday. Usually buy Easter chocolate for hubby and myself but didn’t due to my no sugar rule. Did buy for the grandkids though.

getting busy here too. There is a long to do list.
managed to get an evening walk in. Beautiful weather.

Gorgeous day in the Virginia mountains. I feel like Easter snuck up on us this year.

I continue to try to fit all my kitchen junk into the new cabinets. Countertop guy came to measure today and said one week to install. I don’t believe that for a minute but we shall see.

Took advantage of JoAnn Fabrics closing sale and bought drapery fabric to make roman shades for the whole house. 17 windows. 80% off with 50% more off at register if you bought the whole roll. I spent $140 total. There were not a lot of fabrics left to choose from, but I love everything I got. Lots of sewing in my future!

I am doing more decluttering as I unpack the kitchen. I can’t believe I moved some of this stuff. I am trying to pare down to bare essentials. Do I really need a pasta machine or ice cream maker. 😂😂😂

That sounds like a lot of fabric! I will miss JoAnn. Not sure where to go for fabric anymore.
I read a depressing story about yarn prices going up. I might try to stock up in a couple of weeks.

It was warm and cloudy—walked in a park and did some errands.

    Blood work numbers are good!

Our local yarn shop lady said imported yarn prices are going up but her domestic yarn prices are stable. Local yarns may be more affordable than my favorite yarn from South American sheep. Time to grab some Malabrigo for future projects I think. She wasnt sure if the acrylic yarns in big box stores will be affected. I often use those for kid sweaters and baby blankets so busy moms can throw them in the washer and dryer.

Do you all have any tips for cleaning the bottom of a rusty steam iron? I have an old Rowenta I picked up at a thrift shop to use in my seeing room. It has a layer of crud on the bottom. Can I take a brillo pad to it? I have had a Rowenta for 30 years that I use to iron in the upstairs laundry room but want an ironing station in my basement sewing room to save running up and down stairs.

Not sure how to clean the iron but I think a brillo pad may be too harsh. Have you checked out how to with just a google search? There is probably lots of info.

Melody, good to hear that your blood work numbers are good. Shows that what you are doing is working.

    Happy Easter.

agree on stocking up on Malabrigo! I love it. I use acrylic for projects where people need to wash the item or have allergies.

I forgot how to clean iron bottoms but brillo would be my last option. It is easy to ruin an iron.

    titus2cat Posts: 617 Member

Googled the iron. Thanks for the suggestion .
One option was Mr Clean eraser so I used that. It worked great. I have never cleaned my old Rowenta I have used for 3o years but I checked and it looks shiny clean. Maybe because I have always used distilled water in it.

    Happy Easter to all!!!

happy Easter! I ate a lot and did an hour walk.
