Hey all, Charlene here. I'm 58yo, 5'8", married 40 years, 6 kids, 9 grandkids, and I'm a caregiver for the elderly so they can stay in their homes.
Goal weight: 150
April 30: 182.3
May 23: 183.3๐คฆ
May 24: 183.4๐ณ Well, at least it's only creeping up; could be worse.
Yesterday we thought we had a buyer for Clora Mae, but they changed their minds; her age. Fair enough. So we are hoping the charity will take the RV off the lot. It appears the owner of the lot is going to force all the RVs off anyway, as they convert to a U-Haul truck rental place. Most of the RVs are now crammed together like sardines against one end of the lot at the fence.
I did some destash yesterday: sorted through my bathroom and kitchen linens, packed a bag full of older towels etc for the dump; tattered or stained ones. Why do we even keep these things??
Exciting: Two of our sets of kids + grandkids live out of state; and one set of coming home to visit for the weekend! They'll crash here of course. Gotta make sure the spare beds are made; ๐ can't wait.3 -
@jm216 nice job, getting back under the May 1 weight. Yep baby steps!
@jebass01 look at you GO! Gotta celebrate you being down 20lbs in less than 2 months.

@ilive2walk I'm glad Allyson's headlights issue was only bulbs! Crossing my fingers the doc says the knee isn't bad.

@deepwoodslady I have three freezers too! LOL! We've had a "beer" fridge in the garage forever, with a small freezer on top. Then when we got our new fridge for the kitchen we were going to get rid of the "beer" fridge and move the old kitchen fridge (has a nice side by side fridge/freezer) to the garage - well now we have two filled "beer" fridges, and stocked freezers. LOL! To be honest - one fridge just holds the water - ours tastes terrible so we drink spring water and get 10-12 gallons at a time from the store.
@iLive2Walk We also buy our spring water as I don't like well water, especially mine LOL. However, I keep it in my walk-in pantry and just refrigerate one gallon at a time. That makes all 3 freezers completely full of food which really explains a lot about my current weight lol.2 -

@cattherien I'm wondering if maybe a local humane society, veterinary clinic or animal rescue place nearby could use those old towels. Just a thought.....
Have a ton of fun as your family visits for the holiday weekend!2 -

05/23-185.6-(Trend Weight 186.9)- I was expecting an uptick today. Although I stayed within my calories (eating up part of my exercise calories) my carbs were over by about 10 due to the pasta/lasagna. I have leftovers for today (for lunch) so I donโt know if it all will finally catch up to me or if I can get away with it. I plan on making sure my dinner is lower carb to offset it all. Probably bacon & eggs today as a breakfast for dinner. Iโm trying to use up some of the food in my freezer. Or shall I say โFreezersโ. I have 3 of them and they are all over-full. There is no reason I canโt be mindful of my macros and still eat food I already have. Iโm usually careful about my shopping choices anyway. I will have to pre-plan and pre-log for sure. My weight is slowly going in the right direction and I donโt want to compromise that.
05/24-183.4-(Trend Weight 186.6)- Iโm not sure that I completely believe this 2.2 lb drop overnight. I have dropped that much in a 24 hour period before but it seems extreme to have two large drops in the same week. I did burn a lot of extra calories yesterday with a workout video in the morning and then an hour of raking and hauling leaves but it is still questionable. I have another scale that does not give me as much information so I tested that one too. Itโs usually about .2 to .4 higher than my daily scale but this time it was .8 more and at nearly a pound different I am definitely questioning todayโs reading. I guess tomorrow will tell. Wishing you all a great weekend. Be safe, have fun, and remember our fallen heros and those we have lost and love.

๐ธMAY DAILY WEIGH IN๐ธ
SW for May - 305.4
GW for May - 299.0
May 1: 305.4 No water aerobics class today, as I was needed to watch my youngest grandchild (a 3 month old girl ) while my son and his fiancรฉ took care of some phone calls with the insurance company. They were rear ended by a pickup truck yesterday, (the whole rear of their car was smashed in) and thank God they came through it with only whiplash. The baby came out without a scratch, even though the back seat and her car seat were shoved all the way into the back of the front seat. They were very, very fortunate. My husband took us out to eat afterwards to a new-to-us restaurant. The food was really good, and while I ate mostly healthy and stayed under my calories for the day, I did indulge in some breaded and fried zucchini. So we'll see what that's going to cost me, when I weigh myself tomorrow.

๐ท๐ชปMay Starting Weight: 151.6๐ชป๐ทEach Month I write a reflection on how the month went. Here's My April Reflection if anyone wants to read:April 2024 Reflection
April was basically a frustrating weight loss month; lost 1.2 pounds. Didnโt reach my stretch or regular weight loss goal. At least it wasnโt a gain. Started off the month with indulging on Easter, then took an overnight trip to see the Eclipse and was also off plan. Then mid-month realized I had a problem with my bathroom scale โ apparently, I have been underestimating my weight for a while โ new scale new weight and it wasnโt pretty. Worked hard the last couple weeks, and at least I got down to below my starting weight โ which who knows if that was correct. For May โ my goal is to get into the 140s come hell or high water.
I have been successful with the exercise, averaging well over my 17K goal, and tracked a little over 250 miles again in April; year to date a little over 1,000; almost have way there. I am also on track for intentional miles with a little over 750 miles to date.
I have been keeping on plan with my cardio and strength routines. I alternate one day of cardio and then one day of strength. Although I do not like them much, I add one stretch type routine weekly. I have been having some trouble with some pain in my knees โ so found a stretching knee exercise that I began adding daily at the end of the month. I have an appointment with the Doctor May 1 to see what she says. Hopefully, I can continue to walk and wonโt have to take a break.
I started re-reading the first book of the Harry Potter series, along with my Hogwarts Challenge. I finished โThe Masked Cityโ and am on the third book of the Invisible Library Series โ โThe Burning Pageโ.
The next round of The Biggest Loser starts May 1. We have a full team, and I spent a lot of time in-between rounds getting ready. Looking forward to the start. The Hogwarts Challenge started; always a fun one. I rejoined Fat2Fit - I can do it.- My May Goals:
- Get into the 140 range!
- Log 150 intentional miles; and 250 in overall miles
- Alternate days of Cardio and Strength Training
- Stretch 3 days per week
- Average 17K steps per day
- Read almost every day
Here is my before and after picture for April. Not much different than last month but found a new before picture and took an after at the same spot.
ME! A good day for me yesterday; got it all done and had some Me time. I love a new month - a fresh start; and so glad to be back.
ME! A nice swish - hope it stays off. Still working towards that old scale number (had to replace the old scale mid-April and the new scale was ugly and not nice). As much as I hate to say it, the new scale was right. Went to the doctor yesterday and the numbers matched to the decimal. Nice day yesterday - moved bingo night with the family to Wednesday this week. Noone won, but it is always fun.
I should keep my mouth quiet when I have big downside - it always bites me in the butt. Busy day yesterday. Got our morning walk done, then worked in the garden most of the day. Spread the rest of the soil and turned it in. Got the carrots, potatoes, and parsnips planted. Cleaned up the screened porch which was filled with garden stuff. Exhausted, so of course binged a little - but with all the exercise today came just under my calorie limit - with binging of course went over the sodium limit.
Another busy day in the garden, also busy with a relay race in another challenge that I am in - kept me busy all day.
What I expected (or a gain). Relay race for the Hogwarts challenge and the garden (finished) kept me so busy yesterday when dinnertime came I said I'm too exhausted to cook - we got subway, which has so much sodium, then I had pretzels, and cookies - ate all my exercise calories. Had two calories left for the day! I did take a beautiful walk in the morning yesterday along the Connecticut River and got this shot with the sun reflecting in the water - and they put the docks in, guess that means it's time to get the boat ready!
ME! First smile in a while! I don't give them until I am under my last recorded low weight. Finally got under the old scale weight. Rested a little yesterday, didn't reach my step goal - but way over my 17K average goal. Tonight is bingo night with Mom- going to resist the junk!
ME! Nice night with mom, noone won. I'm up on the scale - but was under my calorie limit and sodium limit - so thinking just normal flucuations.
ME! Nice day yesterday - super warm. Hubby had a PT appointment so got some me time while he was gone. Monty and I snuggled on the couch and watched MY tv shows. I usually watch them on the treadmill. It was nice. The scale is kind of being stubborn - showed me a little dance on Monday - but it was just a tease. We got the boat uncovered. We were going to wash it today- but got a call from Allyson this morning - she's having trouble with her AC unit - so going over for a Daddy-Do to see what we can do to fix it (or replace).
Ordered a new AC Unit - old one bit the dust. Busy day with the daddy-dos so had a hard tme fitting in the excercise - I felt very good about myself because I accomplished everything in my plan.
ME! It's temporary, but I'll take it. Today taking Mom out for Mother's Day - so expect a rise tomorrow. Going to our favorite seafood restaurant. But I have seen the 40s and they look nice!
May 11: 150.0 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ ๐ฎ Nice day with Mom yesterday to celebrate Mother's day. Today going to visit Greg's cousin (actually his Mom's cousin). Greg's Mom passed quite a few years ago, and his cousin is his closest Mom figure.
May 12: 149.8 ๐๐ ๐ฅ๐ช ๐ฆ๐ง๐ Missed my step goal, left the house at 6AM and didn't get back until 4PM - did get my workout done. I don't know how all you that work do it. I was exhausted and was just sitting chatting for 6 hours. Although I missed my step goal I did hit the 1,100 mile marker for my 2,024 in 2024 goal.
ME! I have been having some pain in my knees for a couple weeks now. When I had my doctor's appointment last week - my doctor said to keep walking, and referred me to an orthopedic doctor (appointment tomorrow). I have been pushing through to get my step and cardio goals done. The last couple of days, have been hurting a lot so slowed down a little. Just did a stretch workout and a couple smaller walks. I am anxious about what the doctor will say tomorrow.
ME! Well, yesterday after my walk - my knee froze up and now I can put any weight on it. Perfect timing - as I have my othopedic appointment today. Did not weigh because I can't step up on the scale. Using crutches - hope they can do something - but it looks like I won't be getting in those walks for the near future. I won't let it de-rail me. I'll have to do some upper body workouts unti I get it figured out.
May 15: 150.2 ๐๐ช ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ง๐ ๐ฎ ME! Went to the doctor, arthritis in both knees, but concerned it could me a meniscus tear on left side (which doesn't show up on an xray). Have to wait for insurance to approve, then going for an MRI. In the meantime, stay off for a week or two, and ibuprofen to reduce swelling. Upper exercises, and eating less for the time being, and have to figure out my diet without having the exercise calories to rely on. Was a tad over yesterday. I did find some seated cardio and strength routines that I tried, but . . . .
ME! Got it all done, except the steps (won't hit that for a while). I'm thinking the garmin overestimates the seated workouts calories. Feeling a little better, I can walk without the crutches. One step at a time. And I had TOO much ME time!
ME! Very frustrating. I found a bunch of seated exercise routines and reached my 100 minutes of intentional goal - but it really apparent that the Garmin must over estimate how much I burned. I think today I won't record any exercise on my Garmin and just have a really light eating day. I have an appointment next Thursday (Yes a long way out) for an MRI. I was going to cancel because it seems to be getting better, and then I said "No, let's just do it to rule out anything major."
ME! I took a short slow walk yesterday and did ok. Then the a lot of seated exercise to get my 100 minutes in. Didn't use any exercise calories towards my calorie limit and came 33 calories under my limit. I wasn't hungry - I don't eat because I'm hungry - never have. I eat because I like food. Today am celebrating Mother's Day and Allyson's 30th birthday - going out to lunch. Will have a very small breakfast and light dinner to compensate.I really would like to see the 140s again soon.
May 19: 152.6 ๐ ๐ช ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ ๐ฎ ME! It's what I expected. Out to lunch, and then that started me on the snacking instead of a light dinner. Way over the calorie limit and sodium - back to it today. Hoping the body quickly reverses my sabotage.
May 21: 150.8๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ฎME! Finally the swish I was looking for. Almost met my step goal yesterday - getting back to it.
ME! I made my step goal Woo Hoo! A little sore, but I did it. MRI of course is tomorrow and I'm feeling better - still going to do it. It's a waste of ๐ต, they will tell me I'm nuts - but at least I will know.
ME! Well that was disappointing. Probably due to the higher sodium dinner last night, but I was under my sodium goal. Finished planting the garden - now just to wait to see what grows and control the pests!
May 23: 150.4 ๐ ๐ฅ๐ช ๐ฆ๐ง๐ ๐ฎ ME! Had my MRI, good news is that we had met our deductible for the year so just a small co-pay. Really glad I said yes - now the waiting game for the doctor to get the results and then make the follow-up to see what it says. In the meantime, the knee feels better and I am getting in my walks. Allyson had an issue with her car, after being out with her friends, she got in her car to go home and the headlights didn't work - so we drove to her house after she got out of work - luckily it was just the bulbs. Dad replaced and the we drove home - she lives about 45 mintues away so my afternoon walk was cut a little short. Found a new strength workout channel on youtube that I tried. I liked.
[May 24: 150.6[/b] ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐ง๐ ๐ฎ ME! Beautiful day on the water yesterday. Kind of a rest day for me. Got my steps in, but no other workouts - a nice walk at the Meadows yesterday, then we finished prepping the boat, and got our first ride of the season. Boating season has officially begun. The water is still a little chilly (73 degrees).
Here's Greg at the boat launching area waiting for me to come back after parking the truck and trailer.

I was expecting a bit of a rise this morning, because I was over my calories yesterday. Maybe it'll catch up to me tomorrow.
No news yet on a second interview for hubby. I worked yesterday on packing dvd movies; it looks like we started buying them in the early to mid 2000's, and continued purchasing until Netflix had streaming. I've been creating a spreadsheet of all the movies as I pack them into boxes; I'm not done yet and there are over 350. Then I start on the VCR tapes. One of our sons is having me make these lists because he can digitize them for us. That'll be nice!3 -
@ilive2walk how beautiful, lovely pictures along the river and meadow, and the first boat ride of the season. Thank you for sharing those with us.
@deepwoodslady I had an out-loud relatability-chuckle about your comment to 3 freezers full of food! I still cook like there's 6 kids at home; but now we just use that as meal prep for workday meals. But we have an ancient [50 year old] giant sized chest freezer crammed full, and it's just the two of us. I think the only reason that freezer still works is that it hasn't moved in 22 years and it's stayed full the entire time. I can make similar commentary about how that has a direct correlation to my own padding...
I also hope maybe your scale just needs a fresh battery?
Hmmm, interesting point about animal rescue for the towels, thank you ๐ค - I'll check with a relative on that. ๐

Two pounds to go in a little under a weekโฆ.i will have to be very careful this long weekend. I did my 1 hour workout yesterday and then ate chipotle lol. Thatโs all I ate for the day though bc itโs so delicious and my entire calories for the day bc they have amazing tortillas. Hoping tomorrow we go to a friends pool so I can get some different leisurely exercise in, and then we plan on yard work Monday. Just have to stay away from the fridge lol.
Thanks all for your encouraging words! 20lbs down and 18 to go until my old normal weight. Trying to get back down to my old โheavyโ weight before the 14th when I go home for a visit and then hop back on the wagon to reach my ultimate goal. Kind of glad I am working out a lot bc my stamina has def increased and we are making a trip to the Mall of America, the zoo, aquarium etc so the cousins can run around.5 -

05/25-184.6-(Trend Weight 186.4)- Well, I thought the scale was very wrong yesterday and I was right. During the reno my scale is not in my usual spot and Iโm afraid the floor may be a bit unlevel where Iโm forced to weigh at this point. However, Iโm still down from day before yesterday which I do think is correct. Iโll probably take the scale to a more reliable location in the house tomorrow as Iโm leary after yesterdayโs (too) low weigh-in. Tomorrow is my family BBQ at my oldest daughterโs house for the Memorial Day celebration. I look forward to spending time with them all. I will try to choose wisely for my meals although BBQโs tend to be high in sodium. I guess its only a day in the life.

I liked.
May 24: 150.6 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐ง๐ ๐ฎ ME!
ME! Another beautiful day - church was having a plant sale, so we bought three flats of annuals. Planted most of them, planted marigolds and snapdragons around the vegetables to help keep the bugs away, and in the front of the house for color. Still have another 1/2 flat to go. Got my walks in and a short cardio workout, then relaxed in the afternoon. It was a nice day.

05/26-184.6-(Trend Weight 186.4)- No change on the scale today. I know I belong back in the 170โs. I donโt deserve the 160โs yet, but the 170โs is where my true home is (for now). Iโve just got to get back there! Iโve been feeling pretty lost since February, but I think Iโm back on the right path now. Not the perfect path, but the right path. Iโm sure I will not hit my goal this month. May was my birthday month, Motherโs Day celebrations and now the Memorial Day Holiday. However, I will aim to show a loss of any kind just to be on the right track going into June. Today is the family BBQ. I donโt expect that the scale will be a friendly place tomorrow but I will work on it hard this week. Memorial weekend unofficially marks the beginning of summer in the USA. Letโs do Summer strong!
