For a second there I thought I was actually going to be the first to reply to Barbie, but Debbie beat me to it.
I usually forget it’s a new month and am surprised at the small number of posts in the old thread when I log on.4 -
Happy June, y'all, and thank you, Barbie.

Thank you Barbie for getting us all on the right foot each month. June should be a busy month. I have a dermatology appt the middle of the month along with my birthday. I am wishing to get either a massage, or a full body scrub! Thinking I need to get either towards the end of the month, or the first week.
Our driveway is a sea of cement slabs!
He is picking up each slab and putting in the back of his truck. Many trips to the dump or wherever.
Today I had 2 bowls full of some cooked baby potatoes, a half of a small head of cabbage, and some kielbasa sausage. All simmered in some spicy chicken stock. Also a 1/4 of a sweet onion. Love eating food like that. I just pile it on the counter like a cave woman.
Hugs to all that wish them!

Darkest month of the year!
But we'll be quite busy so maybe I won't notice so much.

Cheers Barbie! Really appreciate you.
Quite a lot of pain. Going to the bathroom on crutches is always an adventure, but the assistants are patient with me. I asked for something stronger in the night, which helped, and I did drift off to sleep occasionally. I still have the electric pumps on my calves, and it makes a bit of noise, but you get used to the 'burps'. I'm glad I have good upper body strength, for manoeuvring. Definitely not for wimps! At least I know it will get better!
I'm keeping up with the physio, and she will be coming today for more exercises.
For breakfast I've ordered porridge. I like it with salt and butter, the Scottish way. Plus a fresh fruit salad.

2024 Goals
My 2024 goals are a continuation of my past goals based on my ToDo list and my 50Things list with reference to a Wellness Wheel.Upcoming Appointments - these are at the top of my list. The things I need to deal with in the next few weeks.
Intellectual/Occupational/Financial or Education/Career: Advancing my career. Moving from adequate to proficient at SQL, brushing up on cost accounting and learning clinical costing, learning Python and data analysis software.
Also, I want to have a closer look at our financial situation to see where we can save money and to make sure we're on top of things.
The goal is to expand my skillset and to improve our financial situation.
Medical: my husband's appointments, which I also need to attend because I'm his ears and cognition and my appointments.
I also want to create medical record binders (and on the computer) for both of us, in case something happens.
The goal is to keep us as healthy as we can be and to ensure we have information at our fingertips.
Fitness/Sports > Cycling > Audax Tasmania: There are a number of fitness/sport things I'd like to try, with a focus on cycling, and a large part of my cycling endeavours includes my volunteer work with Audax Tasmania ... and maybe even riding some events again myself!
On my 50Things list I have all sorts of things like learning to swim, riding a horse for the first time, trying archery, learning to dance. Maybe this might be the year to try a bit of that.
The goal it to improve my fitness level.
House > Office > Computer become more specific as they go along. I have a number of thing which need to be done in the house (kitchen, dining room, etc.) but most importantly the home office needs a whole lot of work. And along with that I need to organise the drives on my computer into a better filing system.
The goal is to have an organised and decluttered house and computer system.
The goal is also to ensure all paperwork is up to date and accessible by both of us.
Garden: I have several projects I would like to do this year. One of the main ones is to finish the border around my dry stream and bulb garden.
The goal is to have a pleasant, creative, relaxing and functional area outside for reading, exercise and socialising.
Spiritual: Continue to read the Bible every day. And attend church a little bit more often -we've got some plans in this regard.
The goal is to learn, relearn, revitalise.
Emotional/Social/Recreation: More creativity, relaxation, connections. I have all sorts of things on my 50Things list like doing more with my photography, playing the piano again, working on my website and more.
The goal is balance. Doing a variety of things that aren't just work and education.
May Highlights
Intellectual/Occupational/Financial or Education/Career:

Produced a presentation and project plan.

I do like to look for the highlights each day or week or month.
Today's highlights ...
- Laundry washed and hung outside on the line
- Walls washed in new bedroom in preparation for painting
- Moved a few more things to new place ... little bit at a time.

Good morning ladies!
Barbie thank you for the thread!
Numer1ca ( I missed your name!) good luck with your foot! We have had a bunch of foot problems lately, Michele and Tracey. I also wanted to say that while 400 mg may be the limit for caffeine, some people are more sensitive than others. If you have any trouble sleeping, it's worth a try to cut back even under 400 mg.
Rita and Machka great job on the goals!
Tina and Debbie yes that senior center will be my respite care. Very important!
Heather you are doing great! Thinking of you.
Lisa down to the last panel of your quilt! Good job.
Lanette yes my sister is coming back for my Dad's birthday the end of July. But I text her most days so we stay in touch.
Machka I'm with you on disliking the dark months, although it's bright and sunny here now. Does the dark affect your husband?
Well, I set up a walk in a nearby forest with my friend for my father and me, but this morning my father said he didn't want to go. I thought he would enjoy it again. I convinced him to go anyway since I can't go without him. But now I feel like I'm dragging him along.
He wants to go sailing and he wants to go on road trips, but that's too much for me. Well, getting us both out to walk is a good thing whether he admits it or not. I can't aspire to him liking everything, because that won't happen.
Have a wonderful day, and may you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

He's home all day with the curtains open and can be out in the garden during the day. So he doesn't seem to mind what time the sun comes up or goes down. If we go through a week or more of rain and gloom, in the winter, that bothers him.
But for me, the sun is barely up when I go to work, and it's pitch dark when I go home. I try to get outside at lunch for about an hour, but if it is cold and windy, I walk through the city shopping areas. I can go several days and barely see the sun, even through cloud.
Being indoors or outside in the dark all the time is incredibly depressing.Anniesquats100 wrote: »Well, I set up a walk in a nearby forest with my friend for my father and me, but this morning my father said he didn't want to go. When was the last time he went sailing or on road trips?
I'm wondering if he is living in the past?

Barbie ... Thank you!
Heather ... Great news that the surgery went well and you are now on the road to recovery!
A Place For Mom ... Forgive me, I can't remember the name of the woman who used this agency for her mom. I used them to help confirm my choice when my mom needed assisted living. And their ratings and current/past family's reviews were accurate. Sadly, they do not walk along the Long-Term Care side of elder care and make no recommendations beyond directing you to the government rating websites. And this is probably because the waiting list is so high for even the worst facility, that there is no need to help facilities find residents.
Yesterday was exhausting for me. We drove to a well-rated long term care facility which was located out in the country on a beautiful campus. The rooms were old but clean. And there were plenty of smiling staff. Sadly, it was way too long of a drive to regularly visit my mom and in the winter it would be problematic. Also stopped at my mom's assisted living facility (she's not there at this time, but in rehab) so that I could see the memory care side of the facility. It's beautiful but I'm not sure if it's a good fit.
Also visited my mom at the rehab facility. She wasn't sure who I was at first. When I asked her if she knew my name she shook her head "no" and called me "mommy." She got things straightened out after some promptings, but these moments are becoming more frequent.
Then I had another adjustment on my cochlear implant and with this adjustment the birds now sound like real birds ... not digital sounding at all!! We also adjusted the hearing aid side as it is no longer my "better" ear... changed the decibels so that it didn't interfere with the implant's ability to interpret what a sound is. I actually hear better now without the hearing aid being in the left ear ... the implant in the right ear is that much better ... but were keeping the left side active. The audiologists are thrilled with my progress and said I'm way ahead of the curve on adapting. They're such good cheerleaders
It's a beautiful day here near Buffalo. I plan to do some weeding and get caught up on laundry before visiting my mom again today.
Beth

Beth ~ So happy to hear that your hearing is improving and hope it continues to do so. I am getting my new hearing aids next week and hope they will serve me better. The sad part of the whole thing is that I was told as we age our brains do not process the sounds as well.

Happy June everyone! We are already 6 months into this year! Where has the time gone??
Yesterday morning had blood work. My DH even went without much complaining! That is a definite win! We go every 3 months with our PC who is a wholistic doctor. Our results will be available next Friday when we both go for the follow-up appointment.
It’s overcast this morning. I hate days like this, they are so depressing.
Not much going on here. Usual summer stuff at the park, campground full and day side busy. I will probably need to work the entrance booth again this week. Not sure yet, no one has asked me but I’m just assuming.

Morning ya'll
No I saved the chipmunk yesterday morning,he spent the evening under the fridge and then made a run for the border, with the cat and dog in hot pursuit, but he climbed up the screen on my slider,I shoed Alfie out of the way went out to the patio ,closed the patio door and the little guy was able to escape.
So everything worked out..
Ive been logging my food for a few weeks now ,and I plan on keeping up with it..but I just can't get the sleeping down at night..the cat,the dog its a mess.. so I end up falling asleep around 4 am to 8 or 9 and and groggy the rest of the morning.
Heather- so glad the surgery is behind you and because you are good about exercising im sure it will be a speedy recovery..3 -
Jenn - I need to make quite a few scrapbooks. Ive made a few scrapbooks, I need to do something for myself now. 😂
Annie - I think talking to your therapist is best before opening anything wounds that you may have trouble closing.
The seniors centre for your Dad will be such a help for you. You need those breaks even if you just stay home and nap.
Heather - so happy to hear you are doing well.
My grandmother’s doctor wanted her to have her hips done in her 70’s she didn’t think she would have too long to deal with the pain so chose not to. When she was 92 she told me how much she regretted that decision. If I’m ever offered I’ll be doing it.
Lisa - I love that song. I feel you and I could sit and talk music, painting and probably much more for long periods of time.
Lanette - I don’t know that there is a perfect healthcare system, I am mostly happy with ours here in Canada but it is in crisis right now and needs some help. If they started looking at whole health I think some costs would actually go down.
Machka - interesting studies being done, I’m also following studies being done out of Queensland Brain Institute.
Allie - I have bought a splint based on your recommendation a few months ago, it sure has made a difference with that. I also roll the bottle, and do calf exercises. I had it feeling better, but the practicum and being on my feet 6 hours a day has it all aggravated.
Happy that you get that chipmunk out of there, they can cause a lot of damage in a short period of time. Even electrical fires.
Debbie - I hope you have a nice visit at your mom’s. Has the roommate moved out yet?
Terri - I can’t be trusted in a craft store either.
Sue - Thank you. I download that app. I know I snore, I would like to find something that helps it. thanks for the info.
Barbie - thank you so much for another month.
Machka - I hope you have a mild winter.
Beth - I hope you find the right place for your mom.
That’s amazing how quickly the changes are happening with your hearing.
Last night I made notes and then started watching a Netflix series and forgot to post it.
Today is the first weekend that Rodger is working and I’m home. I have laundry started and will do some light cleaning. I wanted to go buy a gazebo canvas today but I think I best wait for next pay to do so.
The rodeo is here this weekend, we are going to go this evening and walk around for a bit. We aren’t interested in seeing the actual rodeo, but there is a trade fair and midway. Since I’ll be walking this evening I’ll be lazy most of the day.
It’s the only way I can keep my foot pain manageable. I wish it would heal, I miss being active.

I don’t know how many saw my post yesterday, but everything has changed for the better! I stepped on something a while ago that was stuck in the bottom of my foot. Last week the bump started growing and hurting when I walked so I made a doctor appointment. Long story short, the doctor dug around and couldn’t get it out. I had an x-ray and we were waiting to see what was in my foot.Good news - her digging and fiddling must have gotten out, because the x-ray show nothing in my foot anymore! I still have the lump - but I can walk and even if it hurts - I know that nothing is being pushed deeper in my foot - because nothing is there! So that is a massive load off.
I have neopathy in my hands and feet - so she is making sure I have enough D vitamin - and I do. So that’s good. I can just take 1 vitamin a day now. And I was taking my medication all wrong. So she changed the method I am taking it. So, over all a good visit even though I had to have my tetanus shot and my blood sucked. Just a chronic condition that I can manage.
Heather - I’m glad everything went well! Keep us posted on your progress and recovery!
Lisa & Machka - It must be the evergreens or city dirt then. It was too gross. I had lines hung up and everything. Hopefully I can hang laundry at our next place.
Machka - That app looks pretty cool. Congrats on meeting your goals!
- I have SAD - seasonal affective disorder. It’s very common in the PNW. I started sitting for 1/2 an hour in the morning under a light lamp made for SAD and drank my morning coffee and read the news, or whatever, and it really made a big difference. I don’t know if that would help you all or not. I also added a lamp to my office because I lost my window. Last winter I had a window and that was really great. I hate losing 3 + months SAD because of lack of sun. I feel for you.
RVRita - good luck on your blood tests!
Lisa - It took, I’m not kidding - 45 minutes to drive to the doctor’s office. Then it took 1/2 an hour to drive to the imaging center for the x-ray. It makes me feel silly that we would be concerned to live further out. But, if we call 911, we should have an ambulance in 7 minutes. It’s such a balance.
Positive for today - I can keep exercising at my current level!3 -
Thanks for the new month, Barbie!
I don't have much to report. I'm ordering a bunch of new clothes and sending most back. Maybe 1 of 8 or so items works. Saves me money, I guess. Clothes shopping is painful these days and I never liked it to begin with.
It's another gloomy day here in SoCal. Hope there's sunshine where you live.

Today’s gratitude: Barbie for the fresh start every morning… Thank YOU Barbie!
As usual motivation flagged toward end of month. Will catch up with posts later.
PT going down to once a week, mostly to keep me honest.
Heather rejoicing to hear of your surgery and recovery. Your son wears shorts whle biking in the snow??? SMH!
Margaret ((hugs)) for the loss off your friend.
Lanette regarding your last good deed, “virtue is its own punishment”
Pip your patio and succulents arrangement.
Sue wishing for your toxic tenant that she be healthy, at peace, and safely far far away… Thanks for the SnoreLab app tip.
Allie the pic of Carmine with sMyles AND the story of the chipmunk’s salvation warmed my heart. Thanks!
Terri you sound remarkably calm for having been without your phone for a week, then having to go through the factory reset. Brava! What is the “Juke”?
Annie the senior center daycare is encouraging. Brava for walking with your Dad, even when he resists. Maybe other caregivers can help you find someone to Papa-sit when you need longer time.
Beth so glad you have the joy of adapting so far ahead of the curve. Something to sweeten the bitterness of what you’re going through with your mom. ((hugs))
Lisa in AR, had to lauch at something you said about humming birds being mean to each other. A big, beautifully colored stinker just drove off a tiny black/grey/white one. Whoops, a bigger dark just dive bombed the ruby/emerald one. Endlessly fascinating, though I’m frequently tempted to smack the agressors.
Machka, Rita I am so with you about overcast. I can tolerate stormy or foggy days but plaing grey skies… yuck!
Tracey Jonah’s topic change
Tina I am so with you about shopping for clothes. Books now, that’s a whole ‘nother story.
Belated welcome to @LisaSkuraton @Numer1ca Jean R in N, Seattle. Thankful for the good MD appointment.
Rori, Kay, Vicki, Debbie and everyone I missed, know I read yoru posts and send my heart out to you.
Had to google put a pillow on your fridge day, its to bring good luck. https://nationaltoday.com/put-pillow-fridge-day/
