Thank you, Heather. Not one I'd heard about, but I'll keep an eye on it. Five years away seems forever, but it's been nearly that since this began in earnest. Nice to hear some progress is being made in regard to the underlying issues. My own history makes me think I could have had Crohn's since I was in my mid-20s, but only had problems once or twice a decade for short periods of time, and was misdiagnosed from the jump. After 2005, it increased to every other year or so until 2019, when it started and never stopped. Not worth moaning about the past that can't be changed... but it would be nice to change the future. Unfortunately, the VA is seldom at the cutting edge of technology. We'll see.

Hi Gals,
I am filling a bit of time, this weekend I have friends coming for a “potluck” there is a group of 4 “families” 7 adults 1 infant, who gather 4 + times a year, one couple just upped and moved away – we got told when I sent out a reminder of our potluck. I worked with one of the members of each couple in the past, the “move away” couple I like her, but he’s different in a I’m not sure I trust him sense. They have been married about 6 months, known each other for maybe 14 months…. And the entire time he has been trying to get a job far away from her friends and family. Just raises red flags to me. But I have been careful to keep communication open in case she needs to get out at some point. Anyway the point being that the friend with the infant is coming today for lunch with her dog to see if her dog and the ones I am sitting get along, so she could bring the dog with them this weekend.
I have another possible dog sitting job for next week. And then a 4 day over the following weekend…. July is open, then all but 4 days of august is booked…. This is really interesting.
I had always figured that in retirement I would move from the busy suburbia to a bit quieter area, maybe a more walkable area, and maybe set my home up as an Airbnb a couple of weekends a month, a bit of income and I love company and to cook so it sounded perfect for me. And I still think I’d like it, but if instead I dog sat, I would still have the extra income, but get to know some local people, not just travelers like you would with an Airbnb. More to think about.
So thought I’d show the pictures of the Corral Fire - It started last Saturday, I was going to dinner with my DN (nephew) and his girlfriend – I saw the smoke and the fire trucks headed that way, by the time I drove by headed home it had spread, I was one of the last cars by before they shut the freeway. As of this morning it is 94% contained and burned 14,000+ acres. I have a friend who lives close, but never had to evacuate. Fire season in California has started.
Thinking of you all,
Kim in N. California

Made it through work and had a good day.
Lisa-glad visit wasn't too bad. I am actually not bothered by the gyn process. I figure it is done as a check on my health and I just get it over with. I know it bothers many but I have not been part of that group.
Kim-the dog sitting sounds interesting. I think I would like that better than having strangers in my house. Hate to see fire season starting.
Off to bed-while I am feeling better I don't think I am all the way over the crud.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio6 -
Hi all this will be short and sweet as I am heading to bed soon! Good day with calories; could have made some better choices but that's ok. I did a teensy bit of exercise.
Vicki! I forgot you were in Grand Island. How is your weather faring? We were just there in May doing a Nebraska Passport visit. I was very sad to hear the Studio 10 Art Gallery closed. Seems very sudden; we were talking to the owner and she said how great things had been!
The Nebraska Passport program is a tourism/economy boosting program where you get a booklet listing 70 different places to stop all over the state. You collect stamps and can post digital stamps too, and you are eligible for prizes. Of course they hope you spend money everywhere you go. it's a lot of fun and takes you to places in the state you may never have thought about going to.
OK ladies you all take care...it's snooze time for me; I didn't get my afternoon nap LOL.
Meg from Omaha10 -
took a little nap but felt more tired after it(I rarely nap) so skipped class.
My friend went- he said there were only 7 of them there- usually we have 13 or so.
Playing with the kittens- letting them run around outside of their playpen for a while before their bed time then I will go out and water the garden- was over 90 again today.
Cooler tomorrow- 74 for a high. Will walk the wetlands .

Debbie - I would agree with you. You have a lot already.
Annie - I couldn’t do the personal care I don’t think. When I was called home a month before dad passed he had a fall the morning after I arrived and narrowly missed the wood stove. Their bathroom door was not wide enough for the walker so he had to leave it.
We took him by ambulance to the hospital and although he was well enough to go home he chose to stay in the hospital for his safety and he didn’t want mom or I helping him at home with those needs. I was grateful.
Heather - you are doing very well. It will be nice when you’re all fixed.
I agree about shower mats being ugly. You would think they could be nicer these days.
I take the phone in the bathroom with me when I bathe here alone. At least I could call someone if I’m still conscious.
Vicki - I wish I lived closer, I would work for you.
Lisa - I loved Glen Campbell too. I just learned on the new Beach Boys documentary he sang with them for a while when Brian quit touring. I was a bit disappointed with the documentary, other than that I didn’t learn much.
Glad your appointment is over. I think I need to get an appointment for something going on there, it’s going to have to wait for two more weeks. I haven’t missed a day yet and have no intention of doing so. I’ll have perfect attendance for my course.
Kim - I like the idea of dog sitting, I would have to know the dog though as I’m nervous of some. A lady at ceramics goes to peoples houses to watch dog sit. I wouldn’t want to do that at all. Does it ease the financial burden a bit doing it?
Ginny - luckily your brother was able to help right away.
Burning - in NB where I grew up people burn things they shouldn’t all the time. I think it comes from living in the middle of nowhere. Also, so many think their little bit won’t matter too much compared to what else is in our air these days.
Debbie - I never used to nap, but since I started my practicums I’ve had only a few afternoons when I haven’t had one.
Good luck on the sale this weekend.
Kim - it’s good you keep the lines open for that young girl, I agree red flags for sure.
It’s funny what direction life takes us.
I’m trying to figure out something to bring in and extra $1K a month so I can do this EA job. I so enjoy it, but the wages are abysmal. Not the actual wage, I was prepared for that but it’s only 30 hours a week.
I wish I could share a video with ladies, we had a pep rally for the Oilers today. The whole school gathered in the gym, we screamed, clapped, cheered it was so loud and the excitement was contagious. At every home game the man that sings O Canada sings from the middle of the audience, he starts it off and then lets the crowd takeover. Our school did that and it brought tears to my eyes listening to the students belt out our anthem with so much pride.
Well another evening is in the books. For the first time in a long time I didn’t snack myself through it.

I rarely nap in the afternoons ... if I do, it's always a gamble whether I will feel better or worse. Sometimes I have woken feeling completely detached and slightly nauseated.
I prefer to hold out till the next night and try to go to bed a few minutes earlier.
But my husband naps almost every afternoon.

I usually skip naps too-push through as best I can. I took one today because I was hoping I would feel rested enough to go to class but that didn't happen.1 -
I'm a great fan of the nap. I've done it all my life. I'm pleased to see that recent research proves how very good it is for you - cognition, blood pressure, healing from illness or wounds. etc.
I also found it very useful when I had my first new born baby. None of that exhaustion mother's complain of. I just slept when they did..
Just recently, with pain-filled nights, and interrupted sleep, it has once more proved golden. It is my favourite time of the day.
This morning I washed my hair in John's washbasin. First hair wash in a week! I used a plastic measuring jug. It sooooo reminded me of my teenage years, washing my hair in the washbasin, with Lin-co-Lin beer shampoo, which I bought in sachets with my own pocket money from Woolworths. Occasionally, I would treat myself to a sachet of Hint of a Tint, in chestnut. If I left it on for 20 mins instead of the 5 recommended, it would last more than one wash.
We had a one bar electric heater on the wall. Once I left it on all day when I went to school. My mother was very upset.
I was able to walk to the bathroom without crutches! I am up to stage 3 exercises, but I haven't done all of them yet. I'm still on painkillers, more as a preventative than anything else. It's only the evenings that are uncomfortable.
I may be able to walk outside soon. The problem is, our very uneven pavements, with weeds, cracks, and tree roots. Horrid, even if you are fit. I will definitely need John by my side for tumbles.
John is cooking Mediterranean vegetables tonight, with feta. I will do the brown rice in the IP. I always do double and freeze half. I like Peri Peri sauce with mine. Yesterday he cooked our staple lamb and flageolets stew. Followed by strawberries and cream.
And so on . . . . . And so on . . . . Every day a little bit better.

Heather - It's so good to see you making leaps and bounds in your recovery. Your fitness levels pre-surgery will continue to stand you in good stead as you continue. Glad, too, that the pain is largely controlled.
Tracey - So close to being done! So pleased and proud for you that you've not just gotten through all this, but excelled.
Kim - Holy guacamole on the fire, kiddo, and that it's so close. Stay safe!
Regarding burning - I don't call the fire department because there's a fair chance one of the young people's dads will be on the truck! Small community, volunteer fire dept. Calling someone out for a trash fire here would be more likely to get you a citation for a false emergency call than get any change in behavior. At least they're trying to clean up the past denizens' messes instead of just making new ones. That's what I tell myself anyway.
On the subject of naps - They are becoming a definite thing for me. Makes for an odd sleep schedule - I was wide awake at 2:15 this morning. It's so different, to be able to let my body and mind relax into a natural routine rather than having to adhere to the world's idea of when I should be awake or asleep.
Right now, when I get tired, I fall in the bed and snooze. When I'm wide awake, I don't push myself to stay in bed. While it feels disjointed, it's kinda fascinating. Corey's always happy when I rest, as he thinks I push far too hard to accomplish things that can wait or not be done at all. He doesn't scold, but he gets a little sarky at me when I say I'm tired. 😄 Funny guy. 😜👀😁 I think he wants me to admit I'm not well, and most of the time, I just refuse to do so. Stubborn is an understatement.
All this is frustrating for my daughter, though, as she inevitably calls when I'm asleep (phone's on DND) or at the doctor's office (yep, still on DND). 🙄🤷🏻♀️She called her dad yesterday because she didn't get me on the phone two days in a row, and got worried. Nice to be loved that much. 😻
Corey will be up in a hot minute here - need to get a load of laundry in the dryer and get my coffee made before he takes up the kitchen getting his lunch ready for work. I would start making his lunch again, but I put way too much food in each day--and he's that clean plate guy from way back. He's fermenting pickles on the kitchen counter, and already harvested a half-dozen cucumbers. Here's the pic of his garden - someday, we'll get those rocks cemented onto his raised beds. Well, I say "we," but they're far too heavy for me to even move, so that's all on him. Maybe by next year! 🙄😁 It could happen...
Have a good day, y'all,
Love,

Good morning ladies!
Kim that fire looks dangerous! Be careful!
Heather things are looking up! Excellent!
Tracey this caregiver role is certainly not what I had pictured for myself. I was always more techie than social. I came home thinking it would be for maybe six months, and here I am years later.
Dad went back to getting the newspaper in his underwear again. And his hearing aids are not in the charger. I have my therapist by Zoom later, so he has to stay home and keep out of trouble by himself for an hour. I'm nervous about it.
Today I got a sitter for him for the first time so I can go horseback riding this afternoon. We will see how that goes. He knows the sitter, but he may not listen to her.
Have a great day my friends! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

My evening sleep schedule is out of whack because of the light early mornings. Fortunately, I’m an inveterate napper. Always could fall asleep almost anywhere. I’m very good at power naps. 😂
Heather: Bravisimmo! I knew you would ace this after-op gig!!!
Kim: That looks scary. I hope it doesn’t impact you. Like the dog sitting idea better than AirB&B. At least you get some pleasant exercise with the dogs. 😜
I have already put away a load of laundry, done a HITT workout, 15 minutes of yoga, and several short walks. I have Shakespeare Study after lunch, and card-making after lunch tomorrow.

One of the reasons I don't take naps is because they frown on that at work. I leave home about 8 am and don't get home until about 6 pm when I work in the office.
@GodMomKim ... weren't you doing embroidery projects? Don't know if you've heard, but Dr Michael Moseley has gone missing on a Greek island. All sounds very weird. Check it out.
John can't stand him, but I've watched most of his stuff and listen to his podcasts. Hope we hear something soon.
Hip sore again tonight. The day was fine. I had a gin and tonic for my first drink in 3 weeks, but it's just made me sleepy. No desire for any more!
I had a nice phone chat with my friend L today, swapping war stories of our hip replacements.
Not much on TV tonight. Might withdraw early and catch up with something on Iplayer.

3 short walks (includes reservation cards), therapy, Post Office, Walmart shop, car wash, and filled water bottles all done this morning. Now I’m sleepy waiting for DH to finish making lunch. All this talk about naps is making me probably take one this afternoon. My Jardiance finally came in, took the first dose this morning at PO. I wonder if that is what is making me so sleepy? I’ll have to look up the side effects.
Today is:
Exercise in your gardens! ( I took the ‘sucker’ branches off my 4 tomato plants this morning after watering). Who here still has a YoYo? I might in storage! A wooden one that DH made when he had a home shop! He made a wooden top too!

We had to buy a new microwave, as our old one finally gave up the ghost. It was 28 years old. RIP.
I liked it as it had a plate warmer button, which none of them have now.It has been making a terrible racket for years.
New one arrives tomorrow.
I've got my shower mats, one hole type one for John's and a loofah type one for mine. I know he won't leave it on there when I'm out of there. Too proud. The suction grab bar seems to have firmly stuck on the shower glass.
In the same delivery came a 'true red' lipstick, which I haven't had in years. I like it. I do wear black a lot, so it can lift it. I'm calling it my 'Paris look'. It was absurdly cheap.
No news on Michael Moseley.

Restful day, all in all... got quite a bit of work done on the quilt this morning, a 90-minute nap, and then phone calls to return or receive from all and sundry.
Medical test requests:My primary doc has to have me in for urine tests for the opioids I take every day, per VA requirements. They called today to schedule it, as they test every six months to make sure you're actually taking them and not selling them! I had to go in on the 24th anyway to do my iron tests for the hematologist, so they agreed to add to that rather than bring me in twice.
I also asked them to test my thyroid and potassium while they're at it. I've had some real struggles with fatigue, and if my iron remains normal, it's possible that my thyroid meds aren't working as well as they ought. They also switched me from a diuretic that saps your potassium to one that does not, and I want to make sure I need to continue taking potassium--too high a potassium load can also cause muscle fatigue.
Talked to my best friend, who is trying desperately to get home help for her dad, and then my daughter finally got in touch, and sounded enormously relieved...
Discussed dinner with my husband, too - am trying out a new recipe, a chicken cordon bleu meatloaf, that he found and forwarded. I wasn't hungry last night, so he ate leftovers, and moved trying the new recipe to tonight instead. It's all put together and resting in the fridge, and will put that in about five to eat at six, our usual time. Will put potatoes and carrots around it to roast (at his request). Should be interesting. When you like all the ingredients in a recipe, you usually like the end result... but not always. We shall see.
Have a good night, kids,
Love,

Well its done. We took a video for Athena to see the cement truck. I think it brought back memories for husband as his Dad drove a cement truck for years in Portland OR. His Dad passed when he was an early teenager.
Went commissary late, I bought some spicy California rolls for dinner. Dessert will be some yogurt, raspberries and Bevita crackers.

Had a nice trip to Steve’s. Found a ceramic place near his house and just HAD to check it out. Got a “welcome” sign with a cat on it. Don’t know when we’ll get to painting it, but we will. Yesterday did Jillian Michaels 6 Week Six Pack DVD (new one for me) and then did some exercises in the pool because had a dermatologist appt. All’s fine, he was glad to see that there wasn’t anything that he had to freeze off.
Allie – our first cat caught a rabbit and brought it into the house. The poor rabbit was so scared it went behind the buffet and died (unbeknownst to us). For the longest time we couldn’t get rid of this odor. Then we found out what it was. A decomposing rabbit. So glad you assisted that chipmunk. I’m sure he’s grateful, even if he doesn’t say it
Tracey – I’m beginning to think that it’s something else, not a callous because today I wore these socks to work that have extra padding on the bottom plus I’m wearing one of those callous pads And I can still feel it! I’m going to a doctor next Wed. He’s the one who first saw the “callous”. I tried calling pediatrists and one isn’t taking new patients for a callous, another isn’t Medicare approved, the third one would just file it down and prescribe an orthotic. Heck, for the money and time, I can file it down myself! But now I’m thinking that it’s something else, not sure what, tho
Heather – oh so happy for you! Of course you’re doing well with your PT, never doubted it for a minute. I like the “defrost” “soften” and “melt” settings on my microwave
Annie – happy your dad did well at the senior center. I’m guessing that he wants to go back?
Made banana chocolate chip muffins for Vince yesterday and some brownies for when we go to Jess’. Now making protein waffles
Mowed the grass today then did a few little things outside (killed weeds, etc)
Have most of the popcorn strung for the trees. There’s one more strand that I want to do that will finish up the spool of thread then I declare myself done and I can go in the pool...yea
numerica – that’s great there’s nothing in your foot. HUGS for your son
Decided not to go to the Salvation Army as much. I can only get there at 10 and they open at 10, so all that’s out are the leftovers. Used to be when they opened at 9 I got first pick of the good stuff. Oh well...I really don’t need much anyway
Sue WA – I’m so sorry for your loss
One of the condos burned. Not in our building. Total loss. Had something to do with a plug
Ginny – HUGS
pip – you are so talented in so many ways...decorating now painting. Be sure to eat enough calories girl
meg - wb
Rori – so good to see you posting. Have fun at your reunion
Beth – what worries you have!
Jenn – welcome
Good thoughts for all those with injuries
I need to make something for Vince using barbecue sauce. Any ideas, anyone?
Boy, are we a prolific group! Getting caught up is quite the challenge
Remember the 4 kittens I told you we were getting? Well, we spoke to Jess about the two from her and the foster parents said one of them is still nursing. At 8 weeks? Vince is sad that we’re not getting them this weekend. You should see the things he bought for them! Special litter, litter boxes, a camera so he can see what they’re doing, scratching posts, he’s really going all out.
When we had the hill on the side of our house done, I told the guy that I didn’t want juniper, I just don’t like it. So what did he give me 21 plants of? Well, it was hard enough to find someone who would excavate the hill. I want to get another flower in place of some of the juniper and I will have to plant it. To be honest, I’m a bit concerned about my planting. But if it’s going to get done, I think it’ll have to get done by me. So Sat. is supposed to be nice so I think I’ll tackle it. All the while holding my breath.
Sorry to anyone I missed. Know that I’m always thinking about you all.
Gotten back into mahjongg lately.
