Hi all!
I think the pain has turned the corner. This morning, it was really awful. Life sapping. I had to go for an X-ray, and getting onto the table was torture! I got some extra paracetamol and ibuprofen, and then John came over and I went through the physio exercises and walked about a bit with my crutches. By late afternoon, it was feeling so much better.
I will have a morphine pill tonight, so I can sleep.
The surgeon put in a quick appearance, in his cycling gear, so that was nice.
Tomorrow morning I get some stair climbing training, and then home!
On to the next hip!

Thank you for all your kind words about my starting the thread. I am only a piece in this wonderful tapestry that you all create with your thoughtful sharing. I appreciate all of you.
My Sunday walking friend returned from her month long trip to England and Scotland and came to tell me that her phone had been stolen out of her pocket at Heathrow on her way home so she was without phone or internet since her phone is the wireless connection for her computer's internet. She was more calm about it than I would have been, but it reminded me of how grateful I am for my connection with all of you on phone and computer.
I have recently emerged successful after many purchases online and returns via UPS to find a size and style and color of jeans that are what I wanted. I will soon have five pairs and I'm delighted. I thought it would be so easy but it challenged my patience and my brain. The big problem was that the manufacturer made changes in how they identify their styles and I had to navigate a lot of variations to find the style, size, length, and color.
Allie, how great to see Carmine interacting with Miles. Keep on loving them like you do. It will be even tougher on everyone when the babies come.
I am also grateful that I can walk every morning no matter the light or the weather.

Hi everyone. I have had a pleasant day, in warm sun. Did my usual local Saturday shop. Spent time catching up on my journal, and did the strength spreadsheet and May report for Sole Mates (the walking group I belong to)
Beth: It’s great that you are doing well with the implants.
Heather: Good to know that you are up and moving a little. My niece made me promise to ask for pain relief when I needed it, as she said that suffering in silence wasn’t helpful for recovery.
Machka: Those photos are stunning. The upside of my recent enforced reset of my devices is that the clarity on the screen and the performance is greatly enhanced as Apple installed the latest operating system on bot iPhone and iPad.

BIL died this morning. He had head and neck cancer that started in his tonsils. I won't miss him. Never did like the man, but I do worry about my sister. She has myesthenia gravis and John has been her 24/7 caregiver for a long time. She does not drive and the last time I saw her walk unassisted was years ago. She has an absolute horror of care homes and has said she will commit suicide rather than go to one. Don't know how her kids will handle this.
DD has gone into Seattle today to have her hair cut and colored. She is having oil slick coloring. I am interested to see how it will look.

Barbie - I understand your excitement at finally finding jeans that fit. Just yesterday I dug out my summer tops - most of them are at least a decade old, purchased from Land's End. When Sears was in town, they accepted Land's End returns so no bothering with mailing things back. The stores where I bought jeans that fit have also closed within about the past 5 years - Christopher & Banks, Vanity Fair, Dress Barn. I'm so hard to fit being long-waisted; it was nice to be able to try on clothing in the store. Sigh. Hoping my old tops and jeans last for at least another decade or more.
Sue - Sorry to hear about your BIL but I get it. Sad that your sister's health isn't good. Glad she has kids, hope they are helpful to her.
Heather - happy your recovery is going well. Appreciate you keeping us updated.
Pip - that car show looked like fun. Neat you found one made in your birth year. I think DeSoto's were popular when I was a baby. Lots of cars have come and gone through the decades.
Jenn - I'm kind of in the boonies too, south of Olympia. Used to live North of Issaquah before it was Sammamish and enjoyed shopping in Redmond, Woodinville and Snohomish. Knew Sue's area fairly well 30 years ago, I probably wouldn't recognize anything anymore.
Busy busy day yesterday - finished mowing, potted up all of the tomatoes, pulled weeds. Up too early this morning and was back at it with getting a few more things caught up and 2 loads of laundry. Seems like I have finally totally run out of energy and have been napping on and off all day. Shoulder is grumpy, probably from me dragging bags of potting soil around yesterday.
Feet are grumpy just because, lol. But I'm over 10,000 steps now even with all of the napping. Got in a mile sunrise walk this morning which helped.
Have a great evening ladies.

They say it will be mild, but Rhody has a good, thick undercoat this year, so I wonder!
I am hoping we'll get a decent amount of rain, but not so much that we're flooding.Machka - That app looks pretty cool. Congrats on meeting your goals!
- I have SAD - seasonal affective disorder. It’s very common in the PNW. I started sitting for 1/2 an hour in the morning under a light lamp made for SAD and drank my morning coffee and read the news, or whatever, and it really made a big difference. I don’t know if that would help you all or not. I also added a lamp to my office because I lost my window. Last winter I had a window and that was really great. I hate losing 3 + months SAD because of lack of sun. I feel for you.
I also have SAD. Way back when, when I lived in Canada, I used to go to a tanning salon and spend time in the tanning beds regularly each winter. I would leave the tanning salon feeling great! They were such mood lifters. Of course, they've been banned now, probably with good reason. So I might have to look into a sun lamp.
A few years ago I went to a 9 day fortnight - every other Friday off - and that helped a bit because I was able to be in our house which has 4 big windows in the living area, or outside in the garden if the weather was nice that extra day.
I'm hoping this winter will be a bit better because, in addition to every other Friday off, I work from home one day each week. Even being able to sit right next to a large window helps.
Our new house has a lot of windows too. That was a must for me!Positive for today - I can keep exercising at my current level!
Yay!!!

Hi all!
Lovely sunny morning with the sun pouring through my window.
Night was mixed. The morphine worked for a couple of hours but the top up Codeine later didn't. I did get one more hour sleep. Now I'm dosing up with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Plus a stomach settler and a laxative. Happy days!!!!
Still got to work out the details of the pick-up, but it will happen. Just stair training this morning. John will have to pack for me.
Having a croissant for breakfast and fruit salad. Last night was beef stew with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Then apple crumble and custard. Not complaining!
Will wash and dress soon. Rejoin the land of the living, instead of wearing a hospital gown.

Good morning, my lovelies. Just taking a few minutes before my day begins to check in with you. There is a maritime festival on this weekend down at the marina. We may pop down for a brief wander around. Also, planning to Skype with family late afternoon.
Heather: The sun is shining here as well, and temperatures are heading up. I know you will recover quickly, as you are so disciplined with the exercise. And I’m sure John will look after you well. Good luck with the stair climbing training.
Barbara: The Juke is my car. It passed its annual test with flying colours. 😂
Sue: Sorry about your BiL, and the resultant worries about your sister.
Despite the stress of my debacle with my devices, my life didn’t fall apart. I still continue with my Solid Habits, maintained, and surprised myself that I didn’t dissolve into a blubbering heap 😜 I am delighted that both devices have been given a new lease of life. There’s always a silver lining! I found that life off grid was actually quite relaxing.

Good morning ladies:
Had not realized the length of my disappearance so will definitely not be catching up on all comments. Since I last checked in, my brother now has a definite Alzheimer's diagnosis. We spent a night in the emergency room with him a few weeks ago (at my disappearance time). He was completely delusional-people were trying to kill him, etc. He was shouting to God asking for forgiveness and many other things. It was sad watching his pain. This past week they started him on seroquel. He slept three nights straight, the fourth night he again heard the voices and was manic for over 25 hours. Last I heard last night he was sleeping. Everyone coming to my house tonight for pizza. Will get SIL out of house for a bit and see how he does in different environment. Oldest brother is in from out of state. My YS and DIL are bringing baby over to meet her great uncles.
And speaking of my youngest grandchild-I babysat her four days Memorial Day weekend (Thursday through Sunday).I arrive and they tell me she had a fever earlier but went to the doctor and they believe some viral ear thing. No temp when I arrive. Doctor has a script on hold at drug store if needed. Off go Mom and Dad to Maryland. She ran no fever over the weekend, was a tough fussy by nothing bad. Kept to her sleep schedule. Ate a lot (right at 6 month mark so growth spurt. They need to get her on solids! But we had a good time playing, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, exercising, etc. By time Mom and Dad return Sunday night I am staying there until Monday am. My through is getting scratchy by they point. Monday morning upon awakening no doubt I caught something. Went to Urgent Care Tuesday-they said some viral thing gave m nasal spray and cough pearls. Worked from home. Went in to office Wednesday and to a meeting-made it through the day somehow. Wednesday nigh had horrific body aches-was running fever by now. Friday morning back to Urgent Care-got antibiotic and steroids to help with cough. Feeling much closer to human now. And Luna, of course, was completely over whatever she gave me long ago!
Flea-I do seem to recall you receiving some very good news! How exciting.
Allie-twin girls sounds exciting. From the one picture it looks like Carmine paid a visit to Miles.
Annie and Beth-the memory issues are real and scary. SIL wants to keep brother home as long as possible-not because of money, etc. (they don't have any) but because she views it as to what you do for family.
Terri-glad you sorted out all of your tech issues.
Heather-glad surgery went well. No doubt a bit more pain to experience but I found it a different type of pain and it doesn't last-small steps!
Pip-I get it sometimes the being overlooked can get to you. But you have a pretty good family on here! Welcome to my side of older age!
ok-missed so much I apologize but with the way the last couple of weeks have been it was good to have you ladies to come back to. Oh-and somewhere in there I put a hold on a condo unit at the complex I want to move to. It is on the walking path and has direct access to fishing pond. Going over to check it out in a couple of weeks. It won't be ready until end of year so good timing. My brother's rapid changes has made me realize I want to make more memories with my family-not my work.
Need to get house ready for guests. Will check on Kylia here in a bit,
Take care all,

Good morning ladies!
Heather glad you are over the worst of the pain. Thinking of you often.
Barbie Yay for online shopping! And glad your devices are behaving better.
Pip those are some gorgeous cars!
Ginny sorry your brother is such a a challenge. Wow delusions are so scary. Having a diagnosis is a step forward, some of the resources will require that. And you caught a bug too! Sorry
about that.
Sue hope your family finds a way to support your sister.
Barbara, I have a sitter for horse Thursday afternoon, and I got him into a program Tuesday and Friday for four hours each day. It starts on the 11th, so I just have to make it until then.
Today Dad is going to the church picnic. I got him some brownies in a disposable container to take. But now he keeps asking me if he needs to bring an entree. I don't know for sure what he is supposed to bring. It's not on the website. But I'm sure there will be plenty of food and I'm sure they don't expect much from him.
Next up is transportation. I think it will be okay to let him catch a ride home. It's less than a mile away. He would likely be okay walking but I hope he doesn't. I need to be ready to buy groceries after I drop him off. Then we will get through the week.
He disappeared yesterday and I found him at his computer with the door shut. Maybe a lecture about computer safety is in order. He was getting mail from a site called Friends with Benefits. I don't think he knows what it means. He is unsubscribed now.
Have a marvelous day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Dropped in to see what y'all are doing. Wide awake due to our anti-other-humans-than-us cat who is upset that my BIL stayed the night, as he and my DH were drinking beer and we wouldn't let him drive, and a husband who believes when the cat's upset she must come in our room. This may indeed be good for the cat, but not for this cranky old lady.
Ah well, it's not like I have anywhere to be. I can always go back to sleep.
While Corey and Pat were happily putting together a makeshift smoker in the back yard yesterday in order to smoke country pork ribs, then smoking them, I was happily in the house putting together my self-selected anniversary present - two seven-drawer chests for my craft room:
It was reassuring that my brain still works well enough to put it together - and my big strong mechanic husband and brother-in-law both went, "oh no, you go right ahead, that's way too fiddly!" Works for me. Didn't have anyone asking me if I thought I was doing it right.
Also got a phone call from my brother Friday afternoon, just to talk, and I really enjoyed that. He supposedly needed a good definition for the word "existential," and he knew I'd know. And, no, he does not own a computer, and his phone is a flip phone, and not the new kind, so he couldn't look it up. I'm aware it was just an excuse, and I'm OK with that. Lots of laughs and family updates - his is the daughter that had the stroke at 37 years old. She is doing great, and they finally found the tiny little hole in her heart that threw the clot, and will be doing surgery to correct it. Apparently, she was born with it. He sounded so relieved, bless him. Mystery solved, now it just needs repairing.
Heather - by the time you see this, you'll probably be on your way home. Hope the stair climbing session is instructive. Kind of important in your house! Be careful with that new hip, woman.
Terri - Good to see you back in the land of the living in the electronic sense. Hope the festival is fun.
Sue in WA - Hope your sister's kids step up to the plate for her.
Lanette - So hard not to take advantage of good weather to get everything done outside, but our bodies don't always like the busy bee bursts. Trying to remember that for me as much as you!
Ginny - It's good to see you, glad you're nearly over your Luna's bug. I'm sorry about your brother. Thank goodness it's the 21st century... it wasn't that long ago they would have assumed he was possessed instead of simply trying to correct a chemical imbalance. I hope they find the right combination for him.
Well, the "boys" (50 and 54, not exactly boys anymore, but they sure seemed like it yesterday... ) are still asleep, and I took a break in the middle of this, got distracted, and emptied four boxes into my new present, plus another heading off to the Goodwill that I'll take out to my trunk in a minute. I started this nearly three hours ago, and I still haven't had a cup of coffee! Time to go remedy that situation.
Hope it is/was a peaceful Sunday,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Day 2 of scrubbing walls.
I spent 2 hours yesterday and 3 hours today scrubbing walls in preparation for painting.
When I started yesterday, I was thinking, "No problem, this will be done pretty quick". But I've probably got another 2 hours at least to go yet.
Some of it is quick ... and then there are parts where I'm doing a lot of heavy duty scrubbing. And it's up the step ladder, get the part near the ceiling, then down to get the part I can get while standing, then bending, kneeling, or sitting to scrub the bottom where most of the marks are. Then move over and repeat.
My arms feel rubbery.

Peonies are in Bloom here. We have had so much rain and not too hot so the are gorgeous this year. This one is from son's garden. It is the color my MIL always wanted. They ones I got from here are a lighter pink and still in bud.

I'm debating about something like this for my colouring pens, but it seems a bit short to me. If I got it, I think I'd have to put it up on something.
I like that they are all at an angle like that though.

Machka - part of my yen for those drawered cabinets was that I couldn't stand looking at all the markers, brushes, drawing pencils, etc., standing up in containers. Just too chaotic. I think your bins could be just the thing, but you're right you'd need them to sit on a surface. My daughter has something similar but quite a bit larger for her kids' toys, so they can find what they want reasonably easily. Once you have the bins, there's all the fun of deciding whether to store them by color or by type or both. I was heartbroken when my labelmaker went kaput. I may have to buy another one--but for now, I'm making do with labels printed on my inkjet. Not the same at all...I may not be diagnosed as neurodivergent, but I have a feeling there's a strong streak of it in my makeup.

Glad I have a lot of water available. Supposed to start in the ‘regular’ summer 100’s this week. We’ve already had a few days over 100, but a breeze, or outright wind, made it feel cooler. No humidity helps too. When summer gets here for good, no more wind so you really feel it when it is above 100. I’m used to it now. My only worry is the air conditioner. It is about 5 years old as we replaced it when we started here in Roswell. And last year, in May we went 3 weeks without it because of a ground wire that no one could find broke loose. We replaced a few parts at that time too which were old and worn, so I’m hopping it will be all good for this year.
I am still writing my Sci-Fi story and it is going well. I’m getting close to the end now then will have to re-read to edit some. I’m excited about that. I never did a project like this before. I am enjoying it!
I need to get ready to run the pay booth again today. Sunny and hot equals a packed Beach/Day side. Going to be busy.
Enjoy the day!

Ginny - good to see you back with us. Very sad to hear about your brother, glad the Seroquel helped him sleep at least for a few days. Miss Luna was too generous with her germs. The condo unit sounds intriguing and just what you were looking for, anxious to hear more when you get a chance. Thanks for checking up on Kylia.
Terri - isn't it funny, life off grid is how we grew up and lived the first several decades of our lives. I remember seeing the weather report either in the evening paper, on TV news or hearing it on the radio. That was before Doppler radar and satellite forecasts. I think they were just as accurate back then, lol. Nice you finally got everything back in working order.
Margaret- I love peonies, love their wonderful scent. Thanks for the photo, I can smell it from here! Can't get them or lilacs to bloom worth a hoot at my house, even though I've tried. Fond memories of them in my Grandmother's garden - they do so well in the Midwest.
Lisa - glad the brothers had an enjoyable evening and got the smoker put together and initiated. You rock putting that cabinet together. I had to laugh at it being too fiddly for Corey and Patrick to put together. In the olden days, I would hide projects like this from DH since he'd tend to take over and not read directions and get aggravated. When he'd be out mowing, I'd get busy.
Kylia - this Bob & Brad video came into my feed today. All about backwards walking. I'm lucky to have a long hallway I can walk down, touching both walls. Haven't done it in a while, need to resume. Interesting how Bob uses a stick to help with balance while he's going backwards.
Heather - so happy you'll be able to head home soon. Good luck with the stair climbing.
Carol - hope your hearing aids work great. Did you get the over-the-ear ones or the ear insert ones? I try to get at least 6 hours wearing mine until the top of my ear hurts too much. Hope that's enough to stimulate that part of my brain that needs stimulating, lol. (Some days it ALL does!) Were you able to find a lawn service?
Annie - "Friends with Benefits" . In a way, it's good that your dad still has the ability to use the computer and internet but now it sounds like he needs more monitoring. Sounds like a good plan in the works to keep him occupied at the Senior Center, and you'll be able to resume horseback riding. Did you find new lawn guys?
Rita - awesome that you are finishing your Sci-Fi story. Crossing fingers your A/C unit lasts for a long time - glad you are used to the heat and have plenty of water. Wonder if the park will be real busy today with folks coming in to cool off?
I made a super early shopping trip to town this morning. Skipped the gym.
The goal in the pre-diabetes class is to work up to 150 minutes of activity per week - cardio and/or strength. As of yesterday, I was already at 350 minutes, so don't need 20 minutes on the gym treadmill. Until my shoulder settles down, the machines aren't advisable and the alternative is to use their free weights. I have them at home. Plus, I'm backing off the steps today - overdoing it walking on the pavement is likely one reason my feet hurt. 2 months ago the foot doc said back off on the steps, OK to do half what I was doing (at the time -12,000 or more. ) until my foot heals up.
I'm not training for a marathon so no need to keep pushing. And even if I was, good to take a break to avoid injury. Hard to break old habits.
Make it a super day, ladies.

Well the guy to repair driveway never showed up on Saturday like he said he would. He's not very reliable. Will our cute little green car ever get to sleep in her bedroom/garage???😂. I can hear her just looking at the house muttering, "really"?
Today is leftover Thanksgiving feast from the other week. So each of us smashed our favorites in a plastic container so not quite sure what I put. Whatever it is, it will be yummy. Beth I find your implant journey fascinating! Thanks for sharing the journey and so excited that you are starting to hear real sounds!
Heather, thanks to you for sharing your hip surgery story. I’m hoping to never need it, but it’s good to hear about the journey from someone who has first hand experience. Right now my take away from it is that I need to be in the best possible condition before I need it, I’m assuming it will make your recovery much easier.
Allie, so nice to see Carmine interacting with Miles!
I’m sure there are more posts that I wanted to comment on but, as usual, the memory fails. Congrats to those celebrating, hugs for those who need them (extra hugs for those of you who have recently suffered losses) and welcome to the new gals!
It’s a rainy day here, but my friend and I managed to do our full walk anyway. The rain didn’t start getting bad til we were at our turn around spot so we did have to finish, lol. Ah well, we both had good rain jackets so all was well.

Ginny ... Hi Ginny! I'm so sorry your brother is experiencing hallucinations with his Alzheimers. My mom had one night of delirium and it was all I could handle. I understand the belief that you take care of family at home. It's how my family has always done things. I've been struggling with the reality of my mom's deterioration and even had a discussion today with my husband about bringing her home. We both came to the same conclusion. No, it's not in her best interests.

Evelyn - I have got out of condition recently and put weight on because I could hardly move . I still did some prescribed leg strengthening exercises in preparation and concentrated on upper body strength. That was vital to enable me to support myself getting in and out of bed and toilets.
Going upstairs is a great deal easier than going down. I had John go ahead of me in case I fell.
My first night at home is nigh. I know I will have to go to the toilet at some point, and I have everything I need at hand. I am normally a front, or side sleeper, so back sleeping is not comfortable, but it's all I can manage for now. I'm hoping for a few hours. I have the new Sarah Paretsky on my Kindle, which has been keeping me very good company.
So, another step forward.
