Crazy life....garage being built, one kitten not gaining weight, one kitten thriving well, work crazy, at home sleep study done, just crazy....
No I am by no means caught up...I pop in catch a couple of pages,then have someone that needs my attention. So HUGS, ENCOURAGMENT, HEALING THOUGHTS, CONGRATULATIONS, and HAPPY BIRTHDAYS!!!!!
At home sleep study was good but not good. I go to doctor on Tuesday to go over results. Apparently I have way too many hypopneas along with 19 apneas. Not sure what the next step is but will find out Tuesday.
Took Cali to the vet yesterday. She got dewormed even though the poop tests won't be back until Monday. The concern is failure to thrive. Switch of food to bland diet. She ate really well yesterday in small amounts, yet today on the scale she lost 1/2 oz. That is alot when you only weigh 14 oz. I am worried. I did force feed her 1/2 a syringe of kmr this morning. Will repeat in a couple of hours. DH put together a kitten limbing tree for the girls yesterday. He even modified it so that it works better for the littles.
Got new tire on my Miata as it had a puncture in the sidewall. Got stung by a bee at work- healed well. Got bit by Cali trying to dry her bottom. Broke skin so keeping close eye on that.
Finally got the pile of papers cleared off the pool table and dealt with appropriately. Bills paid. Checks deposited. Laundry done. Sheets changed.
Have to help DH move boxes from an attic today. Doing that this morning. Still behind on work paperwork.There are only so many hours in the day though.
So that is the long and short of my past week. I have had kitties on scale but not me. May have to do that in the morning.

Allie-so sorry to hear about Baby A. Prayers for all. Regarding your strange nausea/vomiting spell-didn't they say they had recently increased you Trulicity dose? That is listed as a common side effect. My secretary had to stop using because of nausea and feeling horrible. There are also warnings with all of those regarding kidney disease. I would call my doctor.
Kelly-hope you can stick with your plan to take care of self-with that many kids you need it! I can't even imagine but I have know many women who are able to cope.
Sue-I would guess the former renter will stay away from the place she knows you frequent. In Ohio there is only one party permission to tape conversations. If that is the case in your state, might not be bad to have your cell phone at the ready when you go there.
Machka-house looks great!
Michele-I can not think of a circumstance in which I would take in 4 kittens (and I am more a cat person than a dog). Also, at this stage of life, I won't take on extra pets to leave for my kids to deal with. Cats can live forever-even mine who are 14 may out live me!
Rita-hope thyroid review provides useful information. Thyroid does so much and is so overlooked.
Heather-great job on recovery. The quality of the surgery and your overall health undoubtedly helped! They do tell us to remember that every surgery is different so if #2 isn't exactly the same don't be surprised. Both of mine were different but worked out. Also, you will be having a second major surgery within a short time so you may be a bit more tired (but then, you like naps!).
Annie-glad Dad is enjoying some of the activities.
Beth-I really hope things work out sooner for your mom,
For those of you with the cold or whatever it is that is going around-I am just now feeling that my energy is coming back.
Trip to Columbus was enjoyable. Too much good food and then I picked up Chinese Friday and ate that for three meals (can you say water retention!).
Getting meal prep done for the week with quick, non cooking meals made. We are supposed to have an excessive heat wave so want to be ready. We do have food pantry this Thursday (outside). Will work on extra hydration, light weight clothes and my neck ice wraps.
Wednesday I am checking out condo option at community I like. I believe the location I am looking at will not be ready until end of year-this works out with may plans to be retired no later that end of first quarter next year. I have discovered that if you have getting into a different residence you really need to look ahead of time.
Off to get in a walk before things heat up.

This is the first house I've ever owned and I really wanted to "put my mark on it". I've never had the opportunity to make choices about things like flooring and wall paint before.
That might have been a good thing because during the years when ragging, sponging, etc. was popular, I was tempted! I never had the chance, but it looked like something I might enjoy doing.
Our new floor was done by professionals. I wouldn't have attempted that. But I did want to give painting a go. I have painted long, long ago as a teenager helping my mother, but I wanted to add the whole painting thing, from choosing a colour all the way though to completing the job, to my life resume.
Would family members help you paint a room or two?

Morning, my dear-o's, from the Arkansas River Valley,
An unexpectedly happy story:I meant to share and keep forgetting - Friday, when I went to get my last infusion done, I stopped for gas on the way back at a busy Walmart gas station - $2.74 a gallon here, prices ARE getting better, finally, woohoo! Took a few minutes' wait, but finally pulled up to a gas pump.
Went to reach for the pump and noticed the monitor said "Waiting for pre-pay," then it said "remove nozzle and select grade." Being a good little denizen of the computer age, I did so, then it told me I could fill my tank. Please note, I never put my credit card in the pump, nor did I go inside.
So, I put the nozzle in and it ended up being prepaid to $20. Almost enough to fill my very small tank, and I was still trying to figure out what was going on, and whether I should start again and put in the couple bucks worth to finish. A guy appeared at the back of my car and said, "Just wanted to tell you that I pre-paid the wrong pump, I thought I was on 5, and I was on 4."
Of course, I said, "Oh, I should have checked, I'm sorry - I've got cash - let me get it for you!" Southern etiquette, try three times, and if they say, "No," then you accept. He refused all three times, so I thanked him and told him what a lovely thing he'd done. He was my age-ish, and I asked him if he was a dad. He said "I am," and I told him "Happy Father's Day!" and got in my car and scooted.
My husband laughed when I told him about it, and said, "If you'd been a big, hairy-knuckled guy, he'd have taken the $20!" I'm OK with that...
It was a lovely thing he did
Stopping here, but with more busy morning ahead - Corey's just finished his third and final cup of coffee in bed, so he'll be out and about soon. Just turned the oven off - made bacon to be crumbled in the pasta salad, and since the oven was hot, went ahead and got some garlic roasted for use whenever we like this week. Really enjoying having it around to use for savory preparations of all kinds. The house smells amazing - and weirdly, kinda nauseating at the same time. Garlic and bacon aren't necessarily morning-time smells to my nose, apparently.
I did try the latest advice, to sprinkle the bacon with AP flour before you put it in the oven to cook... It did get very lovely and crispy, but I could still taste flour. Maybe I put too much on? I don't know. Probably won't do it again. No worries, it was just for the pasta salad anyway, and the flour taste will disappear in that.
Ginny - Good to see you - I may have to find one of those neck ice wraps, considering my current reaction to warm temps. Any recommendations for one that works well for you? Good advice to Allie, too.
Annie - Glad you're feeling better. So glad, too, that you're getting a couple of breaks from having to be constantly alert for your dad's next moves.
Machka - That room looks AMAZING, love the colors and love them together. Great choices! At the moment, we have many, many projects still doing, but we bought a house that needed a lot of work in full knowledge of what was to come. We got it livable, moved in, and have been making changes ever since. It's possible we'll still be working on it when I kick the bucket. There are worse ways to live!
Anyway - Got the stove torn apart and pieces of it cooling in the dishwasher, was scrubbing the kitchen while things were cooking. Time to get a few other things done...

Machka - I'm sure Edie would be thrilled to have a go, but she's still a bit young. My son's schedule is super packed, and they have just spent £250,000 doing up their own house!
If we didn't go on cruises, we could afford to pay someone, but I just have got used to the awfulness and try not to let it bother me. 
John doesn't even see it, or remotely care, which is very frustrating, but if he goes first, I will be doing the place up pronto. Starting with the windows that leak and don't open. Ugh. I could easily sink £100,000 into this place and not see it.
The one thing he has agreed about is my wanting to replace the disgusting original carpet in my upstairs bathroom. I can't imagine what possessed the last owners to put that in. He hates spending money on the house, so it would have to be cheap cushioned vinyl or similar. I'm forever battling carpet moths up there! As soon as I can get myself to a shop, I will ask him to foot that bill, as it comes under the category of health and safety, rather than aesthetics.
Today I woke up at 5 am (I had 90 mins awake in the night too) and used my time to do half an hour of physio. After lunch John accompanied me to the corner of the shopping street, as I wanted to see if I could get that far in order to go for a pedicure next week. I only took one crutch, but should have taken two, as it was harder than I had anticipated. On the way back I needed his arm. Still, a good expedition !
I think I'm coming down with his cold at last. Boo! Hope it isn't too bad. He is pretty miserable. I might wear a mask to the physiotherapy session tomorrow. I will get an Uber both ways.
Otherwise, all good. We are having the other half of the Moussaka tonight with fresh green beans. I ordered him a couple of boxes of chocolate truffles for Father's Day, as he had trained his two girls not to do anything for it. My father was the same. He believed it was just a commercial conspiracy to extract money. The truffles have just arrived, judging by the door bell and I know he absolutely loves them, as do I. One after dinner is perfect. Father's Day is my excuse!

Re: all of the small children- Three years ago, I got licensed to care for up to 12 children in my home. In Michigan, 12 is the max for "family/group" type childcare; then if you want more children, you become a "center" or school. My husband got all of his certifications to be my assistant. Having the group license (12) allows us to have the following ratios: infants (age newborn through 18 mos) = 4
toddlers (age 19 mos through 29 mos) = 4
toddler on up (age 30 mos and up) = up to 12
This means that we can never have more than 4 infants. We can never have more than 8 under 29 mos. We can never have more than 12 children total in our care at any given time.
DH is the baby whisperer. Holding, feeding, snuggling the infants is his forte. I am finding, that is not something I really enjoy doing. I like the busyness of toddler and school aged kids. I like the activity and sometimes chaos. There are things that SH can't do, bc of his RA. The bending to lift or put down babies is hard for him. So I generally hand him children and take them when they are done with him. I put them into stroller seats and buckle them and he pushes the stroller on walks. (It is a three seat stroller; so the exercise is good for him and the stroller works the same as a cane or walker for stability).
I had an incident earlier this week. Back story: Over the course of the past two years, a friend of mine has called to try to set up care for her grandchildren. She and her husband have been caring for them M-F, full time, while parents work. Two years ago, she approached me and asked if I would take them two days a week. At the time, I said sure and gave her my rates. She then told me that it was too high and they would pass. "Maybe in a few months when the family is a little more financially stable." A year later, she made contact again. We went through the same thing, she complained about the high cost of childcare and again said, "maybe in a few months...". Well, darned if she didn't call again and ask the same question. This time, I told her that I couldn't take the kids because I had no spaces available. To which I get the reply; "Pretty please?! Can't you find room for them? We have been friends for so long and I really want them with you!"
I am not sure if she actually expected me to get rid of established families, but I told her again, that I don't have any open spots and won't until September of 2025. Needless to say, she is quite angry and has announced our friendship over. It makes me a little sad; but more kind of "whatever" because I just don't have time for that kind of nonsense.
I have been talking it over with DH and have decided that I am not going to take anymore new families for a while. This batch of "babies" will keep my childcare full for the next two years. We will take stock after that; and I will probably be able to pare down my hours and childcare numbers for the last few years of my career. I am definitely looking forward to that.
DH and I took two walks yesterday. It was nice, but we "walk" differently. I have become a stop and look at nature type of walker; and he has become a walk to get it done type. Ten minutes into our morning walk, as I had stopped for the fourth time to look at some plants, he said "Should I be looking for something?" lol I then explained my interest in the plants, foraging, medicinal uses of some...and he just said, "You are so weird. You get interested in the strangest things." I yam what I yam.
That is all for now. I need to head out and dead head my rose bushes. They were lovely this year! Lots and lots of blooms. I have bags full of petals for the kids to play with. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)10 -
Happy Father’s Day to all those who celebrate
Did a Kettlewerx Abs DVD then took Ganon for 2 walks. When I put the gentle leader on him the second time, I could almost see the look in his eyes saying “not again!”
I saw this strange blanket in the room where the kittens are so I asked Vince about it. Seems he bought three of them. “Why didn’t you use the one I made” “Well, it was only $8” “Do you realize that $8 would be a new towel rack for the bathroom down the condo?”
Ginny – we spoke to Jess before we got the kittens. I wanted her to have input on names since she’ll be inheriting them if something happens to us realizing that the cats might outlive us. But with her being a vet, a few more animals wouldn’t be a big deal. She has a cat and a dog. Her hamster died and she’s talking about wanting another one. I have no doubt in my mind that when Shadow (her cat) passes on, she’ll get another one. She’s so very passionate about animals.
Lisa – what a wonderful thing that guy did for you! We need more people like that in this world
Lectored last night but left early and Jess, Colby and Vince had ribeye and I had a veggie burger. I’m just not a big fan of red meat. Had tater tots and veges and grape tomatoes. However...for dessert had brownies and jello. Then as I was cleaning up, munched on Kisses, M&M’s, and cheese. Why do I do this to myself?
Think I’ll make fudge for Vince today. We finished the brownies. I did have some for Jess to take home
We were going to NY Hibachi for Father’s Day (Vince wanted to go there) but now his stomach is bothering him so he’s telling Jess and Colby that he really doesn’t want to go. That’s fine by me. He’s also saying that he’s somewhat dizzy and is wondering if his cat allergy is acting up. Evidently that’s a sign of the allergy and he has been spending a lot of time with the kittens and they’re just in one room for now so whatever allergen is concentrated. I just told him not to spend so much time with the kittens. There’s some sort of drug (like Dramamine) that’s also an antihistame. He took an antihistamine so he couldn’t take this today but he said he’d like to get some.
I want to buy a ceramic water dish for Ganon to keep here. Right now he's using this plastic bowl. It does the job, but it can also easily be tipped over. I'd make one but I'd like to have one asap. So when I'm out and about, if I see one, I'll pick it up.

Ate a couple boiled eggs for breakfast - just the egg whites, gave Corey the yolks for the potato salad he's building. Got all the plants watered, and am back inside for the rest of this scorcher of a day. Time to take a shower so that I don't gross out our company... Decided not to even declutter, not that there's lots. I do have three projects going, Corey's bottling beer in the kitchen. We're just living our lives, and glad to have them in it for a little while. Time to relax about this stuff. Man, I love being 64...

@Allie, could it be GERD? I’ve had the same thing happen to me once, but I was sitting at the table. I get GERD easily and am planning on discussing that with my Gastro next visit. My mother-in-law had a hiatal (sp?) hernia and caused her to gag and upchuck unexpectedly. You best go to a doctor and ask them what could cause this.

Took a walk with my friend. Annie insisted on going with us. Annie likes to walk back and forth and sniff and wander so it's a challenge to walk with her but she's walking farther every time. We still got to have our conversation and have fun together. For Father's Day, Jake wanted us to eat ice cream so we bought our favorite Ben & Jerry's to eat later. Our meal will be one of his favourites---ravioli with red sauce made with garlic and green olives. Barbie in NW WA 2 -
I am so sad for my son's family! Going to the beach for a week is the high light of their year. They got to Crescent Beach near St Augustine on Saturday and son just called to say that our granddaughter had broken her leg riding a boogie board. They will have to come home so she can get it set after the swelling goes down. This is so bad for her because she will not be able to go to church camp, cheer, and play soccer. Prayers for them would be appreciated.

Heated up Moussaka was fab, and we enjoyed a couple of truffles each.
England football match tonight. John is watching it downstairs. This summer is a washout for me, as I have zero interest in sport, and it takes over the TV schedules. We have the Euros, then Wimbledon, then the Olympics. Grrrrrr. I have no objection to people following sport, but it pushes out my favourite programmes. Plus the General Election ruining the schedules. Not a happy bunny.

Just kind of road the happy vibes from people all day. Was able to chat with middle son, Athena wished me Happy Birthday in her sweet tone, my eldest son texted me while out on his carrier, and today youngest son video chatted with us. All in all everyone did well! I feel blessed.😁💖

Lisa-I have found the cooling stuff to be helpful due to my heat intolerance. I also have one of the battery operated fans you can wear as a necklace. And of course, a variety of hats.

Rita-my SIL had GERD and one of the largest hiatal hernias her surgeon had ever seen. Even with the repair, she needs to be careful.
Worked around house today. Got in a good walk (3 miles). Lower back bothering me and realized I skipped back stretches for three days. Did my regular series this pm-notice a bit of relief.
Off to clean the kitchen and need to tend to the litter boxes. Will get lunch set for tomorrow.

Lisa when I would ride horseback in the heat, we would put some hand towels in a cooler with ice. By the break time, the ice had melted and we would wrap the icy wet towels around our necks for a few blessed minutes. We were already sweaty, and the water felt wonderful!
When I was weeding, I would take a break and run cold water from the faucet over my head. Not fashionable, but very effective!

Good afternoon - the day is whizzing by!
Carol - so sorry to hear about your granddaughter's broken leg. She is so active in cheerleading and different activities. Hopefully it will heal quickly this summer and she'll be better than new in a few months and able to resume what she loves to do. I know, at that age it's the end of the world.
Michele - Vince has a soft spot for kittens, that's for sure. My old (17) shop cat keeps hanging on. Not losing weight yet but she's a matted mess, I try to cut the mats out with manicure scissors. I can generally get about 2 minutes worth of trimming then the claws come out.
I think about if I were to get a kitten, at my age, and it lasts 17 years, I'll be 89! Probably won't be living here.
Kylia - wonder what's wrong with that little kitten losing weight? There's a LOT going on in your world these days, hang in there and thanks for popping in and catching us up!
Ginny - keep us posted on that retirement community. I'm getting excited for you!! Reminds me of when Karen moved into hers.
Karen - when you get a second, please pop in and give us a wave. Hope all is going well in VA. I'm re-reading the Thursday Murder Club and sometimes I wonder if you are involved with someone like Elizabeth who is taking you on exciting adventures with questionable people, lol. Now, I'd be looking forward to THAT type of retirement!
Heather - glad to hear you are venturing out farther each day, and that your after surgery appointment got the green light. Moussaka sounds delicious.
Debbie - those raspberries looked great. Sounds like local raspberries and strawberries have survived our cool wet weather and they are starting to appear at the local fruit stands.
Lisa and all of you in the cooker right now - it was 39F at my house this morning. We'll probably see the mid 80's later this week before it cooks back down into the 60's.
Barbara - I know you're busy. Sending good thoughts south to you.
Machka - love what you've done with that room, neat colors. Do you have a "move in" date set? Maybe you said and I skipped over.
Rita - thank you so much for posting your weekly "lessons" for the Healthie 80/20. I want to take time to review it before my next "class" tomorrow afternoon. Looks like it's all about logging foods. I think I know it all but coach M might have some new tips.
Kelly - I don't blame you for standing firm about not taking in the grandkids of your friend. Doing "favors" for friends often don't have a good outcome, and you were wise to figure that out. Glad your DH is doing a good job as the "baby whisperer". Also you did such a good job volunteering but agree, you can't do it all.
I'm done with volunteering, at least in "groups". Don't need to get out of the house and be around people that badly. I did my stint in Master Gardeners, for example, and endured the politics, people's hurt feelings, listening to them sniping behind each other's backs, the unwarranted criticism of those who were going the extra mile. Childish. In a way, I'm glad Covid came on the scene and stopped the required monthly meetings. I was ready to quit anyhow with DH. Now I have enough volunteer work in my own back yard and don't get any back talk, lol.

Heather – sorry to hear about your TV schedule issues, but I must admit I had to laugh about the General Election – as yours is just 6 weeks, we get campaigning from someone about something every day of every year – or at least it feels like that. I so wish we had some controls over the amount of time campaigning could happen.

I have Olallieberry vines in my back yard, I have them trained on a chain-link fence they are really quite easy to care for, and I LOVE olallieberries, they are a hybrid of a blackberry and a raspberry, the size and color of a blackberry but a sweet tart flavor. I have picked most of them, made a pie, a batch of jam, will freeze some and think I will try to make some “fruit leather”. This is the 4th year and I have never shared any before, but finally am getting a big enough crop, so shared some with a few friends, I may have converted some folks to olallieberries! They don’t have a long shelf life, so you only see them in farmers markets. If you have ever tried Marion berries, they are a hybrid of Olallieberry and another specific blackberry – so that is the closest in flavor.
There was a boat load of drama about Fathers Day celebration (this year it landed on my nephew’s birthday) between my Mom, brother, nephew and his girlfriend. I was so happy that I hung back on committing to what I would do. As I was able to see that between lies my mother was telling and other lies my brother was telling, that I was being set up to be caught in the middle. So I just sent my RSVP NO and missed it all! That was a win! I worked in my yard for 3 hours this morning to celebrate.

Annie - Thanks for the tips! Anything that keeps the heat from getting to me--we're already in the oven, and the temperature will only get hotter from here. I'm already watering Corey's garden nearly every day, and soon it will have to be every day.
Lanette - Those groups always remind me of your little chickens, anyway, BAWK-bawk-bawk, scratch, scritch, BAKAWK! Only joined a few and can't get myself to do it again, though I do threaten to on occasion. There will be no more kittens for us until and unless Egg kicks over, so hopefully a long, long time. Wouldn't do that to her. She's only seven, so it could be a decade or more.
Kylia - It was good to see you, glad those babies found the right home.
Carol - I'm so sorry about your granddaughter's leg! Her athleticism will do her well in her healing, much like Heather's physical fitness has been so good for her recovery.
Had fun with the son, his DSO and my DBIL. Lovely time to come together, eat yummy food and just sit around and eat and chat and relax together. Plus I got that quintessentially Southern satisfaction of being able to send them all off with a couple pounds of pasta salad and potato salad and cold fried chicken to munch on after they got home, even threw in some of my butternut squash puree that I froze this winter. Fun.
Reminded me of my great-Aunt Belle--you never left her home without a car trunk full of freshly cooked food, eight or ten jars of home-canned bread & butter pickles, jams and jellies, and a bushel of corn or peas or beans, whatever was in season, and quilts, everything she lay her hands on, or could get you to take with you. Southern hospitality was still a thing then, and such a precious memory now.
Anyway, was glad to see them, and glad to see them go... Corey and I love our lives, and open them up to so very few people, and that's OK too. Makes for good times when they're here. And when they leave, did I say that part? 😜
Time to finish this up, turn on something mindless on the telly and shoo Corey off to his Sunday night ritual before the week begins on Monday, a long, hot bath. Hope your week is grand.

Rita – Fudge Day, and I just made fudge! Perfect timing. I’m trying a new recipe so we shall see how it goes. Update: I didn't care for the consistency so I'm adding some unflavored gelatin to see if that helps

Question for all gardeners: I would like to put in different plants where the guy gave me juniper. I HATE juniper. Even tho I told him “no juniper”, he still gave me some. But then again, I had the hardest time trying to find someone who could do the excavating (who would I should say) that this is a small price to pay. Anyway, when is a good time to plant? I planted 5 plants already and SO FAR they haven’t died. I have 16 more that I’d like to change. I probably (I’m thinking) shouldn’t do them now, probably wait until around Sept. when it’s cooler. Am I correct in my thinking? As a point of reference, the temps are in the 80’s right now. Lisa – what do you think? Your temps are about how ours are, sort-of
Guess I’d better take a shower and make the bed and then get to bed. Maybe watch some TV, play some mahjongg.

Michele - The master gardeners can weigh in better than I can, I'm sure, but it seems to have less to do with the time than to ones that have the most maturity when you put them in and that are suited to your area. My mulberry tree didn't make it, but it's not native to this area, and was about three feet tall when we planted it. The redbud was quite a bit older, and grown to about eight feet tall. Plus it's native to the area - and it's thriving.
So, if possible, native plants, well established and healthy before you put them in the ground, and make sure they get a lot of water to get them through the transplant shock. Heat doesn't seem to matter as long as they get the water they need to get through the summer - and again, still has so much to do with the plant. If they like shade (it will tell you on the tag) put them in the shade. If it likes full sun, put it in the sun.
