Michele - at your home what are the winter temperatures like? Snow?? Freeze?
We are all from such different areas, it is hard for us to tell you. You can get good help at a local independently owned nursery - not a big box store, or some place with a section of plants, but a true nursery, you pay more but you will get help from someone who really knows what they are talking about.
Be careful when depending on the tags on plants, it should be correct on what plant it is but they are printed in one place in the US (I can't remember if it is Minnesota or Michigan) and is based on their climate, so something that says partial shade - really needs almost full shade at my house, but might need no shade at your house.... That is why a local master gardener or nursery person is worth the time and money. It is cheaper than replacing plants !

Just checking in.
Dh was in a mood plus says not feeling good- Said he has had diarrhea for the past seven days. Not sure if he has had it that long or not, or exagerating a bit. Not sure if it is stress or what. From his mom and work, good possibility.
He isn't talking to me- ignores when I try and talk to him.
Planned on making fresh ramen topped with grilled salmon, kamaboko(two kinds), soft boiled egg then green onions for lunch. He didnt feel like eating so told him to let me know when he wanted it.
I made it for son and his girlfriend at dinner time. Dh was at his mom's.
I made a fresh batch of ramen when he got home and brought it to him. An hour later he sat it on the cutting board in the kitchen, didn't say anything. I just found it in there- hadn't even tried a bite of it.
Won't be very good tomorrow- soaks up too much broth- but wasn't going to dump the whole big bowl of it.
Second bowl also got the egg and grilled salmon- I took the picture while the egg was cooking. Those were for son and his girlfriend
Talked to my mom. There is a big fire just north of town. It looks to be close to where my sister lives. I am trying to check in with her but she isn't responding on FB(even though it shows she is online/active on FB) Three hours and still she hasn't responded- Not new for her- unless she wants something- then she is bugging me.
Praying they get it under control soon.
My aunt and a good friend live a little ways away but aren't in the evacuation ordered area right now(sister is close to the recommended evacuation area)
Gave all four kittens and the old momma cat flea baths this afternoon. Was able to do three all by myself- they all did great- son and his girlfriend did one by themselves and both got scratched(I think the kitten didn't like the sound of the water or it wasn't warm enough-not sure. They smell so good and had so many fleas, poor little things. When they are wet you could really see them. I will see how they are next weekend and give them another if needed.
Will catch up reading tomorrow.

We have gotten a second Ring camera and will mount it on the barn focused on the driveway and the front of the cabin. I will confess I am a bit spooked knowing TTFH is still in the area and my DD is going to be in California for 4 days next week for BIL's celebration of life. One of my neighbors is going to come over to help out with animals so will be in and out.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Not much is going on here. My cough is lingering so I finally found the cough drops. But I slept better last night.
Lisa, my mom was into the joy of giving things away to a good home. I remember in college I brought a boy home for dinner mostly because he was giving me a ride, and he was nervous about what my parents would think. My mom gave him three men's suits, gently used but perfect for him. He kept trying to figure out the hidden meaning!
Today's goal is to drive my Dad's car a bit. It feels huge and overpowered to me. It sits a bit lower than mine, so visibility is worse, too. But I can do this.
And I have a mystery odor in the fridge to track down.
And I'm reading "The Good Daughter" by Karin Slaughter. It's so violent I have to take breaks. And such a departure from the usual romance plot that I wonder where it is headed. I keep looking for the sexy male lead but no one fits the stereotype. Hmm. It's good for me to read something different.

Still trying to catch up. Heat wave coming starting today through next weekend. Temps in the upper 90's with high humidity. Cali only reluctantly taking kitten milk with syringe. Taking her with me to work today so that I can feed her every two hours. Worried about Tory being home alone, but she is too active to take with me. (can't keep her in a box).
Did get attic cleared out. So much stuff! It is now in the top of the barn temporarily. I will need to go through my stuff one of these days. Figure one tub at a time. I really need my DH to go hunting out of town again! It is impossible to get rid of things with him around. Figure a lot of the stuff I will take pictures of, ask girls if they are interested, then rehome in some fashion. Just too much! Not use to storing so much.

Debbie - I'm worried about your DH. I'm afraid the stress of MIL will do him in one of these days. It's hard for you to watch him go through this and not being able to do anything about it. So glad you're able to go on your walks, do Zumba and get out of the house. Your meal looked great by the way.
Scary about that fire near your sister's place. Hope you hear from her soon.
Michele - Kim has great tips. Another idea about plants.... do your close neighbors have anything you like? That might give you a good idea of what grows well in your location. I know we bought hundreds of dollars worth of plants when we moved in here - the local nursery said they'd do well. Turned out they didn't like our particular micro-climate and/or soil and we lost most of them. What thrived were the native plants. Your county extension agent/Master Gardener coordinator might have some good suggestions about those if you are interested.
Kylia - hope Cali makes it OK. Sounds like you had a busy weekend clearing out the attic. Keep cool this week!
Lisa - glad the weekend with company went well AND you got to send them home stocked up with food. Hope the cooling neck wraps help. I recall when we were baling hay in hot weather, we'd wrap wet towels around our necks. Dip in cool water (under the hose or in the sheep tank ) from time to time. We didn't have a cooler like Annie used but got the benefit of evaporation.
Annie - good luck driving Dad's car. Hope you are getting over the crud!
Sue - I wonder if it would do any good to contact the deputy/policeman you originally talked to about this gal and let him know what she's up to, so they have a running record of her behavior. She might be pulling this behavior on other folks as well.

I am not counting calories so much.
1. The quality of the food Non GMO, Organic if possible. grassfeed milk, cheese, meat is the most important to me
2. Avoiding gluten products and grains like corn, rice, barley as much as possible
3. Eating sitting down and calm a environment if possible
4. Fresh Herbs from my garden
5. 12-16 hours between dinner and breakfast
6. Watching for added sugar and fruit juice in the few processed foods I do eat
7. Learning more about where the food comes from wild fish versus farm raised
8. Wheat, corn, sugar, salt are in many commercially prepared foods in this country. Animals like cows are fed a grain based diet to fatten them up rather than than grassfed which is the food that is best for their health.
9. Most meals have at least 5 different fruits or veggies in them. Yes herbs count as part of this.
10. Healthy food =healthy me
I have lost quite a bit of my belly fat. I thought it was mostly due to weight loss. I recently learned that stress is just as big a contributor to belly fat. I live in the world so I still have stress, but nothing like the stress I had in recent years.
I made another batch of yogurt using grassfed organic whole milk. I let it ferment for 14 hours rather than 12. It turned out much thicker and creamier. I am very pleased.4 -

You are doing so well and I appreciate you sharing these tips. I tend to eat dinner early, perhaps too early and even with eating a lot of protein and not many carbs, I still seem to get hungry before bed.
Can I ask what your meal plan is - do you eat three meals per day? And do you have an evening snack - if so, what do you choose?
I'm hoping the diabetes prevention class addresses the snack/hunger before bed issue. I intend to bring it up.

I went to my physio appointment. Sweet young man called Greg. He said I was doing 'very well' and should just carry on doing a bit more each day, especially with the walking outside.
I said "I expect you say that to everyone, just to cheer us up", and he said no, some people need a different message!
I squeezed myself into my black leggings, and wore a bright red top with them, my gorgeous white leather trainers, and a white and black open shirt. Even John said, "You look very nice" It's just a bit of a mood boost to get out into the world. Can't wait to whittle down my weight a bit. Like Margaret, I eat super healthy food, except I am eating gluten at lunch time. Good, artisan bread, not processed rubbish.
I'm seeing him again in two weeks. The sessions are included in my hospital fee.
Tonight it's salmon, with crushed peas and broccoli.
Poor John is really suffering with his cold. He did no exercise this morning, and no walk this afternoon. Looks really miserable.
He may not be up to the school pick up tomorrow.

Kim - We cross-posted yesterday, so I didn't see your Father's Day comment. Well done you for dodging those bullets. Once we get away from optimism and drop down firmly on the side of realism with family, we can achieve our own kind of peace. Pleased for your lovely, quiet day.
The weather says no rain, but it looks very lowering outside, dark gray. My instincts drove me outside to pull my towels back in off the line. Not that expensive to put them through the dryer instead. All the Monday morning chores done, and I was up at 4:30, so I think I'll go lay my little head down for a bit. I washed all the back windows this morning, an hour's workout that was, burned 360 calories. Nipped back inside before it got to 80 degrees (27c) and now it's bumping against 90 and higher (32).
Too sleepy to think. More later, I'm sure,

Heather, I have followed the account of your surgery journey and have cheered for you the whole way. It reminds me of the pain/surgery/recovery journey I had in 2016 and your progress has been like mine. The doctor made it sound like I'd be up and walking pain free a lot faster than it turned out to be, but I believed him because a week before my surgery I had a chance meeting with a woman who'd had the same surgery with the same doctor about six months before and she told me how happy she was with the results. In the hospital my first walking was with a walker and a nurse by my side holding a sash that was around my waist and Jake by my side. At home I walked in 10 minute blocks with a walker. My first walks outside were with a walker and only to the end of the block and back, I thought I might never be able to walk my dogs again but it time, all went back to normal. Your progress looks so much like what I experienced and I wish the same great recovery to you.
Kelly, For years I have admired your child care program. Adding additional infants is amazing.
Annie, You are a champ at caring for your dad. One day at a time.
Lisa, The heat where you live would keep me indoors. I lived in a hot place for one summer and the only time I left the air conditioned house were when I went out to hang the laundry (four pieces at a time), to walk the dog at dawn, and to drive my airconditioned car to the airconditioned grocery store. You get so much accomplished.
I go to the dentist today to have two cavities filled. I am trying to keep the dread at bay.

My son came for 4 days! I cooked 3 meals. Creamy Chicken Fajita Pasta, Chicken Florentine with spinach and pasta with ground beef and tomato sauce. We went to a bar/restaurant that was having a car show and enjoyed walking among the cars. We were suppose to hear a band on Saturday night...early around 6pm but this was canceled. We walked around downtown a little bit! There is a new book store I wanted to take a glance at.
I am suppose to be attending a 9:30 am exercise class but don't sleep well and am missing it. I am sitting on my back deck in the mornings and enjoying the back yard. Maybe I am meant to be doing this at this time!
I purchased some bigger pots to replant my plants. Then next year, I will decide about putting them into the ground or purchasing a raised garden bed. I need to get to replanting the plants!
My son and I watched Killer of the Flower Moon. That is quite a true story. Like something one would read in a mystery book.

I got everything I wanted done before my company yesterday. I am a nervous hostess and did a lot of unnecessary worrying. My cousin, whom I hadn't seen in nearly 13 years, and I had a great visit! Together we visited my mom yesterday afternoon, after dinner we tried to identify family in albums from the 40's and 50's, and then she visited my mom again this morning before moving on to the next leg of her trip. My mom really enjoyed her visit too. So a win all-around. Tonight I will be in bed early!
Tomorrow I need to make multiple trips to the church with donations for our annual garage sale (held in a gymnasium). I so much need to get rid of stuff and I'm determined to at least make a dent. My husband is on board ... at least with my stuff ... but I think I can convince him to release some of his as well.
We are getting warmer than usual weather too.. Buffalo is not known for extreme heat, but we're under High heat index warnings starting tomorrow into Thursday.

Rita in Roswell, NM - Lost 1.9 pounds this week! Yay me!!
Debbie in Napa Valley, CA- 148.2 so lost the pound I gained last week Adding Aqua Zumba on Friday so three Zumba classes a week for the summer plus walking MIL's dog at least 4 days a week.
Sue in WA State - Still maintaining weight. Have been concentrating on sleep the past few weeks. Using snorelab and my Fitbit. I can't say I feel any great improvement but I have had less reflux. Need to continue with drinking lots of water and discontinue the after-dinner snacks.
Kylia in Ohio - well, up .4 of a pound since early May. Not worried just lots going on. That is small potatoes!
Barbara on the Oregon Coast - Slowly catching up. My Prediabetes plan lists these are possible snack ideas for women (see spoiler) it is based on the ADA class your are taking so may help. IDK.
Result of my thyroid blood work was all good, so nothing new added. To address some of my tiredness, it was suggested I try Lion’s Mane supplements. These are a type of mushroom in capsule form. I’m trying 1 or 2 a day and will see if they help. Picture of today’s dinner in spoiler. Setting up plate to match my program’s suggestions: 1/2 plate veggies and fruit (cauliflower salad), 1/4 plate carb (potatoes, both sweet and yellow), 1/4 plate protein (skinless chicken breast with 2 slices of pepperoni on it) and dairy (all topped with cheddar cheese). It was yummy!!
Breakfast: cereal, almond milk, 1/2 banana, 1/4 cup raspberries and a cup of green tea
Dinner will be one of the leftover chicken thighs and macadamia nuts. I meet my carb goal but not my protien goal so this should cover that. I had a sack of a medium Dunkin Donut Refresher (150 calories). This will keep me under my limit of calories. All good!!

Barbie - I grew up in a hot, muggy climate, in the pine forests of East Texas. When Corey and I lived in Coos Bay, more in your neck of the woods, the continual cold and damp sunk into my bones and hurt every joint so much that I came very near sinking into depression. Wasn't good for me at all.
Waiting on Corey's call to say he's on his way home... and have been working on him to take a long weekend soon. He's got tons of vacation time left, with no plans to do any traveling, so he needs to take advantage of having his brother to step in at work and take a little time off. He's trying to work it out. One of their few holidays off is July 4th, but he won't get paid for it if he takes time off the day before or after. So he may take a long weekend prior to that one.
Got the entire house except for the kitchen area spider-sprayed. Actually for all bugs, but the spiders here are just wack. Was waiting until company had come and gone before I tore my living room apart and dumped the couches over to spray underneath. Not nearly as bad as years past - maybe I'm finally winning! Honestly, without my glasses on, I wouldn't even know most of them were there, but one touch of a web when I slide the vacuum under an end table, and I'm all "Spray it, spray it, SPRAY IT!" It's either that or burn it down and walk away.
Not fond of spiders.
Anyway... also figured out how to apply the reflecting film for the living room window with the worst glare, and got that done. I'll be able to get the other windows done around the house the next few days, hopefully, since I have no convenient excuses of appointments this week. Not my idea of fun, but nonetheless, will pay for themselves just with the savings in A/C.

Honestly, without my glasses on, I wouldn't even know most of them were there, but one touch of a web when I slide the vacuum under an end table, and I'm all "Spray it, spray it, SPRAY IT!" It's either that or burn it down and walk away.
Not fond of spiders.
Anyway... also figured out how to apply the reflecting film for the living room window with the worst glare, and got that done. I'll be able to get the other windows done around the house the next few days, hopefully, since I have no convenient excuses of appointments this week. Not my idea of fun, but nonetheless, will pay for themselves just with the savings in A/C.

We set off insect bombs in the house about once a year when we're going away for a weekend.
Load the car with everything including Rhody. Lay out newspaper in 3 room. Pull the tab on bomb 1 and set on newspaper, quickly repeat with the others ... and dash out of the house.
Come home to dead insects and arachnids all over the place and vacuum.
That usually clears things up for quite a while.

Planned on making fresh ramen topped with grilled salmon, kamaboko(two kinds), soft boiled egg then green onions for lunch. He didnt feel like eating so told him to let me know when he wanted it.
I made it for son and his girlfriend at dinner time. Dh was at his mom's.
I made a fresh batch of ramen when he got home and brought it to him. An hour later he sat it on the cutting board in the kitchen, didn't say anything. I just found it in there- hadn't even tried a bite of it.
Won't be very good tomorrow- soaks up too much broth- but wasn't going to dump the whole big bowl of it.
Second bowl also got the egg and grilled salmon- I took the picture while the egg was cooking. Those were for son and his girlfriend
Talked to my mom. There is a big fire just north of town. It looks to be close to where my sister lives. I am trying to check in with her but she isn't responding on FB(even though it shows she is online/active on FB) Three hours and still she hasn't responded- Not new for her- unless she wants something- then she is bugging me.
Praying they get it under control soon.
My aunt and a good friend live a little ways away but aren't in the evacuation ordered area right now(sister is close to the recommended evacuation area)
Gave all four kittens and the old momma cat flea baths this afternoon. Was able to do three all by myself- they all did great- son and his girlfriend did one by themselves and both got scratched(I think the kitten didn't like the sound of the water or it wasn't warm enough-not sure. They smell so good and had so many fleas, poor little things. When they are wet you could really see them. I will see how they are next weekend and give them another if needed.
Will catch up reading tomorrow.
