There are spaces like that in various locations around Tasmania ... maybe something like this one ...

Churches often have an hour or two somewhere in the week where people can get together and work on crafts. One of the churches I've attended here has that, and I remember going with my mother, years and years ago, and learning to do macrame at something like that.

PIP ~ Happy Birthday to Kirby.
Tracey ~ So glad you got the interview set up. You will be a great addition to the work force. Jonah is a cutie!
Rebecca ~ Eli is one cute little boy!
Monique ~ Wow! You have a lot of activities going on. I would be exhausted following you around. Hope your foot does well as you make the rounds.
Lisa ~ The quilt came out great! I can't remember what the theme was, but, I see a library setting.
Barbara ~ I would be shrieking too with frustration over the water problem not being solved. Is there any possibility that y'all could find someone else to go ahead and finish the job.
Lanette ~ Love your softly curling hair. You and your sister look great!
This week I have had my pre-op physical, blood work, chest x-ray, and a 2 hr class on the knee replacement procedure. It will be outpatient surgery so I will go home the same day. I will be given a bunch of equipment to use after the surgery to prevent blood clots, etc. So afraid I will forget to do everything they expect. I am scheduled to go to physical therapy the day after the surgery. Wish me luck!

He's seems so "chill" to me, his personality. Last time we visited he was 5 months old and when I finally saw him cry, it was painfully sweet. He needed changed and it was a quick high pitched sing songy thing. All of us coo'ed "awe".💖. I really hope they all come down to my sisters place.😁

Good going Carol! And good luck with it all.
Lanette - You have the most beautiful hair!
Lisa - Courage ma brave!
Well, it's done. The Uber cost a fortune, but the roads were quite hairy, so I'm glad John didn't take me. Even the female Uber driver remarked on how difficult one junction was!
The clinic is going to cc me with the results they send to the doctor. She said the clinic covers a very big area. It felt wild up there. Evidently, all kinds of people use the roads as free parking, as there were lorries, vans, caravans etc all along the streets.
Glad it's done.
My friend G went to see the exorbitant Harley Street consultant today. She's glad she got the prognosis from the best man, but the reality of the disease has hit her hard. Better to know, but she feels a bit tearful. She felt he was kind and straightforward.
Love to all, must put the duck legs on.

What I learned from my selling Experience to Toy Scout...
1. Be willing to walk away if not happy with the offer. We could have always stored the toys at son's house. They were his toys. We did not get our bottom line!
2. Focus on the task at hand I was distracted going into the sale...(Work on the roof, a garage sale when walking Drew that day)
3. Better use of wait time. We had to wait two hours for our turn. We could have gone over what we had to be able to justify our bottom line.
4. We actually brought in too much. We would have been better off only bringing in the best and either sell at garage sale, give away, or Goodwill the lesser pieces. Having the lesser pieces I think brought down his price.
5. I may sell more to them in the future now that I have a better idea of how to go about it.
Mixed Feeling in that they were mostly son who passed away. I did keep a few a dragon (means something to me about son) yellow VW my first car was a yellow VW, a small jet plane (Dad was a pilot) There were eight boxes ( The toys were laid out and sorted so he could see the collection better) Another mistake we made was including a small box of parts. He thought it was going to be a lot of work to put them together. We had already done a lot of work doing just that!
The major upside is eight boxes out of the house...we did get some cash...they will hopefully be enjoyed by someone else instead of going into the landfill. I did keep the few that had some meaning to me and in remembrance of my son. I had a bonding experience with my other son. He will be handling the estate so the more downsizing the better. As one of the seller said We can't take these with us and best to see them off in a positive way! It did remind me of my experience of going to the Antique roadshow. It was fun to see what others brought in and just to see old toys to bring back good memories.
We did do better with the legos we sold off. DH spent hours putting sets back together and got good prices for them. It was also good for him because he was retired and needed that kind of project at the time.5 -
Happy Friday ladies! I'm starting to catch up here a little.
Barbara - glad your other little tree has been spared, hoping the water guy can speed things up a LOT! Your comment about Joe telling you to be calm reminded me of similar situations where I'd freak out about something, DH would take things in stride. Most of the time he knew more than he was telling me so he was fairly confident it would work out fine. Crossing fingers it's the same at your house.
Lisa - lovely quilt. What a nice gift. How long have you been a quilter? Good luck with the CT scan, hope the results are good. That stick did look a lot like a snake!
Annie - what a relief that your dad's car title is taken care of. When I have an overwhelming list of things that need to get done, just being able to mark one thing completed gives me a lift. You probably feel the same.
Heather - is this the first DEXA scan you've had? I'm sure it will be a breeze getting dealing with the X-ray table. Glad things are progressing toward your upcoming operation. And good job Max by the way.
Pip - Happy Birthday to cute Kirby! Love the photos by the way. I'm sure it will be nice when the condo painting is finished.
Tracey- good luck with the interview. I think they said you'd start immediately?
Margaret - good points about the toy selling experience.
Barbie - glad the extraction went well and Annie is getting the steps in with you these days. Sure is nice to be able to walk for a ways without sweltering. Hope that's the final big sizzle for us this summer.
Carol - is there any chance your DH can go with you to the knee class? I'm sure they'll give you written instructions about the surgery aftercare. I remember when my neighbor had a knee replacement a few years ago, she kept a big supply of ice packs in the freezer. It will be so nice for you when it's over. and you can walk pain free.
Loaf pan chicken recipe: I saw a neat recipe on FB yesterday. Marinate skinless, boneless chicken thighs with spices, herbs, lemon juice, tomato paste, diced onion and Greek yogurt. Then pack the meat into a loaf pan and bake. The finished product is impressive - slice off chunks of the chicken like a person would slice meatloaf to add to a salad or maybe even a sandwich. I'm going to make it this weekend, still thinking about the seasonings. I'm not a fan of the hot spices. If interested:

About my visitors - it was so nice to reconnect with my sis and her DH, and especially my nephew. After supper on Tuesday, we adults sat at the table and he talked about his late wife's struggle with mental illness and substance abuse and his attempts to cope during the last years of her life, and how he's doing now. He is on the path to healing. I'm hoping the lines of communication will stay open between him and me. Aunties have a different perspective than parents sometimes.
Yesterday morning I hopped on the mower and sent 2 acres of dandelions to the great beyond. No more yellow for at least a few days.

26 flights of stairs today + walking.
Started to get my code to do what I wanted at last! I'm trying to match data from 3 very different tables and when the first successful matches happened today, I almost teared up. I suspected this particular project could be successful but getting there has tied my brain in knots. Still more work to do but nice to see some results.
Continued unpacking.
My previous commute time ranged from 30 - 50 minutes each way.
I've done the new commute twice now and it has ranged between 30 and 40 minutes so far. But it is school holidays so the traffic is usually lighter.

Its time for my mega sandwich. Is it wrong to put pickled asparagus in a sandwich? I don't think so! They lay so obediently.😁. Other stuff is turkey, tomato, sprouts and sharp cheddar. I think I still have some garlic herb whipped cream cheese. That makes great "glue" for a sandwich. Holds all the slippery bits stable. All on a hearty grains and seeds bread.
Getting hair trimmed today. Its a fancy spa and salon place, but I am just done with the Supercuts experiences. My hair is wonky for a week. These last two times, she is caring, plus she starts with a shampoo. Supercuts has done away with any water option since they stopped during COVID. This new place is expensive, but I am happy. The salon gal is owner plus a Navy wife. We get along swimmingly.💖⚓
I shall play the piano for a bit, then walk up to another strip mall place and have a pedicure. Even prepped my legs so I'm not "that old hairy lady" that the Asian gals can giggle about! Also there's those massage chairs..... It will be a nice afternoon.💖
Didn't manage the farmers market with husband. He took a nap in his chair, and I went upstairs to take one. Under covers with the electric blanket on! Whidbey gets a breeze so even if its sunny out, its brisk most of the time. With me intermittent fasting, I am colder as well. My hands and feet, as most energy is going to my organs and my feet and hands are left to fend for themselves!😂
Chatted with my eldest via Messenger texting. Its nice he ends his day of work with a note to me before he grabs a shower and heads to bed. He's out in the Big Blue on his carrier participating in a huge joint countries exercise. Its something that's scheduled, widely publicized so its not like I am sharing government secrets. Its called RIMPAC, the photos online with all the different countries ships all sailing in formation diring past RIMPACs is amazing.⚓💖
Have a great day ladies!

Been MIA the last few days, sick with some kind of virus. Better now (on the mend). The whole left side of my face was swollen for a day then went away. IDK. No other symptoms except a headache and tiredness. Getting better so not gonna worry about it.
No food porn for the last few days. Nothing even close to normal eating with this virus. Back to it today. Had cream of rice, with almond milk, butter, and almond butter in it. Green tea for breakfast today. Will post the rest later.
The Healthie 80/20 app I’m using, is giving me fits. I cannot watch any of the videos any more but I do have access to the PDF’s. I signed up for the plan that gives me a lot more but have not gotten anything from them so will cancel. I’ve been contacting them but they continue to say my “provider” has to fix it. I keep telling them I don’t have a provider but an assigned coach by them that is posting the info and I have no chat, email, or phone number to contact him. I’ve asked him questions in my journal which is one way they gave me to contact him, but no responses. I told them the program is great but I have to cancel the subscription as I am not getting any of the services. I did not get any answers from them once I sent that email. Frustrating. It is a great program, but the service stinks!

Lisa ... your "snake" encounter had me laughing!
Rebecca ... I take a can of v-8 into my mom's facility every day. She absolutely loves it!
Annie ... I usually visit my mom about 30 minutes after her lunch ... she never can remember what she just ate ...
Carol ... I will be praying for you as you prepare for surgery. Make certain your husband, or whomever is going with you on the day of surgery, hears all of the instructions and details too.
Tracey ... good luck with the interview. You will do amazing. I've been thinking about your recent education and the truth is that all you learned can be applied to any work situation ... most of us never grow up you know ...
Barbara ... hope you don't have to lose anymore trees ...

Ha! I do not really care for entertaining. It’s very stressful for me. But, they are good friends and are coming from a long way, so their visit is long. However, we are all going to Hawaii together for a week, so that will relieve me of the entertaining pressure and we will all have fun. There was a fare sale, so we all took advantage of it! It’s less expensive for me to fly to Hawaii than to Kansas.

I am fascinated at how different all the surgeons are for knee replacements. A good friend just did his and his instructions before and after are so different than mine were.
You will do fine. Your knee pain will be gone after the surgery. The soft tissue damage from the surgery will be painful, of course, but that will get better day by day.
Best of luck!

We have a burst water main at the bottom of our road, so the cold water is off. (We do have a hot water tank) I hope it's back on by the morning!
The woman at the scan measured my height, so I now am back in my normal range - 5ft 4 1/4 ins. When I was younger I was 5ft 5 ins, so I guess that's not too much shrinkage!
I had a nap afterwards, for about 50 mins, but I'm ready for sleep tonight.
Tomorrow is quiet. Because I'm keeping away from people's germs, I've decided to wait for the bathroom flooring until after the op. Don't want to be getting on buses and chatting to strangers. It's been there for years so it can wait. I can look online for ideas. I wore a good mask at the clinic.
We are going to see Bea's performance on Sunday afternoon, but that is outside in the park. I can wear a mask in the Uber.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

My friend who dances with me on Friday mornings texted to say that her daughter had been exposed to Covid and wondered if she should not dance with me this morning. Since she interacts a lot with her daughter, Jake said he didn't want her coming over. With all his health problems along with chemo, he is especially immune compromised. It wasn't a problem for me because I can dance by myself but she needs me to lead
🌻Got up super early again this morning so Annie and I had another long and lovely walk as the sun came up. It was especially good because it got really hot later and we didn't walk much. The house is cool and we have great stuff to watch on TV.
🌞🌻Carol There were several women in my line dance class who had had knee replacements and they said that the key to a good recovery was to follow directions. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you.

Barbara – will One Protein Bars work for you? The throat isn’t scratchy any more, but I do think that I have a summer cold. Oh well…
Mowed the grass (weeds) yesterday. Went to the Y and did the stairstepper and then water class on Wed.
Pool has been in the upper 80’s low 90’s. Still going in but it’s not really refreshing
Love all the pics
Had a problem with my oven. The one broiler element stays on even while baking so everything gets burned. Had someone come out to look at it and it was a stuck relay. They’re going to give us an estimate for a new relay
Waiting for Jess to come here. Yesterday she (yes, she) put her cat down and she’s driving (2-1/2 Hrs. here) with the body of the cat to have it cremated here
Found that we can get a grant for the soup kitchen from Burger King so have been working on that
Going to have a pool get together for some of the ceramics people tomorrow. Been doing shopping
Rosemarie – your trip to Daytona was horrible. That’s one of the reasons I love having the condo. We’re only about an hour and a half away to the south
Kitties doing well. Yoda had a problem where he was eating litter and got stopped up. Then he had gas in his intestines. Gave him meds and alls better now
barbie – glad you survived the extraction
Beth – happy belated birthday
Heather – I’m so impressed with the bound and leaps you are making
Getting my hair cut this Tues. This is the last week they’re open until Sept. and I do want to go before the new class starts
Rita – all the aliens you post really make me smile
Rori – I was just thinking of you!
Katie – I love Owyn
pip – happy birthday to Kirby
Lisa – lovely quilt
Barbara – hope you get your water issue solved soon
Jess and Colby came down with Shadow. Honestly, I’m surprised how well she took it. They did it on her bed, which I thought was very nice. She’s supposed to come tomorrow for the pool get together

After going to the place where Shadow will be cremated, spent time with the kitties and then went to NY Hibachi for dinner. Just had the hibachi and some lemon fish and salmon and sushi. Unfortunately, did have dessert. Now I wish I'd gotten the fruit. oh well...just water to drink

I didn’t sleep brilliantly, worrying about the water situation. I could hear the machines working well into the early hours. Glad it was down the road a bit. The barriers to stop the traffic are just outside our house.
This morning I peeked out to see that the barriers are still up, but the water is back on! Phew! I expect they will be filling in the road soon.
I really feel for Barbara.
I have a phone call scheduled with L this afternoon, but will probably talk to G as well. She must be feeling so sad at the moment. Fortunately, she is going to drive up north next weekend to see her 11 year old granddaughter, over from Singapore with her mum. Long drive, but something to look forward to. At these times, living alone is hard.

Today’s gratitude: hot tub, chiropractor, ibuprofen. Tried something new, dressed and worked in the side yard with Joe before morning routine (readings, PT, etc) and after only 1 cup of tea. Good chat time too. Proud of myself for moving the compost pile. Reward? Found a bay laurel seedling in the old raised bed. Potted it and pray it survives. It’s called Myrtlewood here in Oregon and there are lots around but none on our property. It’s one of those trees that smells like home.
Heather Bet your surgeon will be over the moon about your progress. Would you remind me what prognosis G is facing? So glad the water main was repaired by morning. Thanks for thinking of me ;}
Lisa You said it. Takes longer than we think possible and shudder to imagine the cost. If we weren’t optimistic, we’d never try to maintain/improve our homes. [sigh] $100 worth of yarn for $6? WOW that was some deal! Brava for forcing yourself to eat earlier than you wanted to for the CT.
Annie, guys carrying buckets of household water as children,? Something I need to remember when I’m whining about our water situation, and be thankful for pumps and pipes ;} Rainy day tea and reading sound like the right rX.
Carol, thanks for understanding! There are two other companies that might be able to complete our water project. One is in McKinleyville (2 hrs, 104 mi) and one in Bandon (1.5 hrs, 75 miles). Either would charge travel time and we haven’t dared ask how far out they’re booked. Best of luck, with the surgery, the equipment and the PT. ((hugs))
Lanette hmm, I’ll try to keep in mind the possibility Joe knows more than he’s saying, and try to really listen to him less reactively. Glad you got in some good auntie time with your nephew. What a hard time he had.
Beth what a gift to take V8 to your mom every day. ((hugs))
Michele I’ll give ONE protein bars a try, thanks! I like Nugo and rX bars, probably because they’re sweet Hope your oven is fixed soon, good luck with the grant and ((hugs)) to Jess.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Michele hope your oven gets fixed soon.
Barbara also hoping your water gets fixed. Such a nuisance!
I'm cancelling my morning walk due to hard rain expected. The radar looks like it's south of our home, but will reach the forest. And I'm still coughing.
I do need to move more. Maybe inside? I'm feeling stiff and clumsy when I do get up.
I'm disappointed in a book I bought to explore a new author. The main character, a cop, dumps her entire career in the first chapter for no good reason. Not believable.
I'm going out to lunch with my dad and my college buddy. That will be a bit different for me, to have dad along.
Well have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Carol - I think you'll do very well! They should hand you a packet of instructions from the class that you have to go to - as you're hearing from everyone else, following those will set you right.
Heather - So pleased that your water issue is fixed, so perhaps it was worth a restless night to get that corrected.
Vicki - I woke up thinking about you, and hope they've been able to get some of your heart issues controlled and that you're doing well with it.
Rita - So glad you're feeling better!
Beth - I was laughing at myself in the aftermath of the "snake" scare, I promise. I was raised in the country, and you look for them any time you're outside. But still, two days later, I'm jumping every time I see a leaf blow by... It will pass. I think of you and your mama often. Just holding you in my heart.
Barbara AHMOD - The last four years I was at home, we hauled well water in the house every day in buckets. WABAC Machine water story:We had one of the old fashioned wells, big enough to hide a body, and when the pump went out in 1973, my father refused to repair it. Any drinking water had to be boiled first, and Mama used the old Wesson oil bottles for keeping boiled, clean water in the fridge. Bath water had to be heated in a pot on the stove. Luckily, my father only took a bath every six months or so, because HE wasn't the one hauling the water.I'd be very happy with a bay laurel as well--I can never find them in garden centers here, so would have to special order, and we've seldom had good luck with special order trees.
My sister and I always had to pull up the day's drinking and cooking water together, as it took both of us to pull the three-gallon bucket up 30 feet, and then both of us to haul five gallon buckets of water in the house. Bath water for us kids was shared - oldest first, youngest last. In restrospect, it may be part of my preference for showers as opposed to baths. They really were "people soup" by the time it got to me and then my baby sister.
It became just part of life, in the end. I remember the first apartment I lived in, being so thrilled with just turning the water on in the sink and watching it run. Pure luxury!
Barbie - Like you, I've learned to do anything outside in the quite early morning. No streetlights here, so I do wait until the sun is at least lighting up the sky somewhat! Love those early hours. I think it's part of why yesterday was so energy-sapping, because I had to be out walking around parking lots in the afternoon. Exhausting!
Annie - Enjoy your lunch. Sounds like an adventure of its own...
Ahh, Corey's up and around, morning smooches for me and pets for Egg, makes himself one cup of coffee, and back in the bedroom to sit in bed and read on his laptop for the next couple hours. I'll ferry him the next two cups because it's not quite daylight, but then I need to decide if I'm doing anything outside this morning and go do it if I am. I've got a couple basil plants that are just NOT doing well inside, time to get them outside so they can thrive with the rest.
Rabbits jumped up in the raised beds and ate most of the greens off Corey's carrots earlier in the week, but didn't disturb the carrots themselves. Will be interesting to see if the carrots survive or grow with nothing more than stalks... It's the first time the wildlife have touched his stuff. He doesn't get upset about it, I think he figures it's just part of the deal. Funny guy.
That was the only thing the rabbits nibbled on, they don't seem to care about the basil or the potatoes, squash, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions or garlic. So far, anyway.
Later, my babies,
Hope it is or was a lovely Saturday for you,

Barbara - I got chills reading you found and potted up that little Myrtlewood. Crossing fingers it thrives for you. Your reward for moving the compost pile. Praying your water situation gets resolved soon.
Heather - glad to hear your water is back on. When the water flow to your house is stopped, I'm guessing that also causes a toilet flushing problem with no fresh water coming in?
Rita - sorry to hear about the Healthie 80/20 mixup. You are off to a great start with what you've learned so far. Glad you are feeling better.
Lisa - thank you for sharing your memories of hauling water. So much work for everyone. Running water is at the top of my gratitude list. Hope the carrots make it through the bunny nibbles.
Barbie- wise thinking keeping Covid exposed friend out of the house for Jake's sake. These days, seems there are so many other respiratory viruses as well to stay away from. Yes the warm weather is back! The oven door is open a little down here too, but at least not set on "broil" like last weekend.
Annie - taking dad along to your lunch seems like a good solution. If you want to send some rain out here, we'll take all you can spare!
Michele - Glad Yoda is doing OK. Jess is a tough cookie taking care of Shadow, may he RIP. Sorry to hear about your oven.
I discovered my old cat has an ingrown claw. She can still walk, but I know it's painful. Called the vet yesterday, they had a cancellation so can see her this Wednesday. She hasn't been to a vet in over 5 years so is way behind on shots, so I'll be glad she's having an exam. I have a feeling she's hanging on way beyond her 9th life and I am ready to leave her there to be put to sleep if it comes to that. She goes for a day without eating now and then, but not losing weight. I can tell she has dementia.
Mo, you are in my thoughts as you head work with your injured foot and deal with so many other things in your life right now.
Foot/ankle near miss:Yesterday afternoon I was working on the chicken run and tripped over a paver. Caught myself, but heard a little "crunch" in my left foot. It didn't really hurt, but I came in and iced and elevated the foot anyhow. Went out a few hours later to give the hens their afternoon feed and suddenly wham-o. Very painful. Limped into the house and grabbed an ice pack.
No swelling, but I was suddenly panicked - what if it doesn't get better and I end up going to the doc and they put me in a boot? How will I tend the hens and keep up with this yardwork? I dug out an Ace bandage, but the foot was too painful to wrap. If I would have had any ice cream in the house, I would have eaten a whole carton. So I ate a handful of nuts instead.
Before I went to bed, I examined it closely and the pain wasn't in the ankle, but on the top and side of my foot. Still no swelling. I took 2 ibuprofen and went to bed.
This morning... getting better. Prayer works. Grateful I got a lot of weed eating and yard clean up done in the am yesterday. Need to make a grocery run this morning then can take it easy the rest of today. Sorta, lol.
I was able to slip on my Muck shoes and go open the coop door for the hens. A little painful, but doable. Definitely better than last night.
Make it a super weekend, ladies. Stay cool.
