July 16 - 173.8 - I'm stuck at 173.X. It will move soon.
July 17 - 173.8 - Yep, 3 days in a row, LOL. I've found a way to keep my cravings from hitting so hard in the afternoons. It's simple but it's working. I've flipped my oatmeal or shredded wheat from morning to afternoon. The complex carbs do the trick.
July 18 - 172.6 - Finally, a drop! The old me tried to come out yesterday. I was donating to a cat rescue thrift shop and across the street was a convenient store. All the years I worked from home I would go out at lunch and get chips and diet coke even though I didn't have it in the house on purpose. Anyway, I was thinking just a small bag of salty, greasy, carby chips (how can I like those things) won't hurt. I then thought about all the work I've done to get where I am and also to get the scale to drop, and all the times I give in right before I'm going to have a drop. The problem is that one bag would lead to one more bag, etc., and my cravings will take off. I'm proud of myself, which seems weird to say, because on the surface it doesn't sound that bad to have just a small bag of chips, but for me it starts it all up again. Thanks for listening!
July 19 - 172.6 - 172.X stuck for another day - YAY!
July 20 - 172.6 - Wow, another weight showing up the same for 3 days straight. As part of my plan to eat more vegetables/fiber, I cooked two bags of organic carrots this morning. It's just too hot to roast them so I cooked them in my dutch oven on top of the stove with butter (I was out of olive oil), salt, paprika and garlic powder. I let them brown some and then a little chicken broth to remove from bottom of pan. They tasted so good. A serving was 67 calories and 5g fiber. I did not peel, I just scrubbed them really good.
July 21- 172.6 - Groundhog Day on the scale again today. My plan to hopefully see a new LOWER number tomorrow is eat on the low end of my calorie cycyling, drink 80oz of water, and eat less carbs. We'll see if this does the trick. I'm good though because at least it's not going up. It's just weird having the same number 4 days straight.

But this morning, I'm going to take some downtime, enjoy a cup or two of coffee and catch up. Bear with me on my late responses.

@LadySicburn ~ Welcome to this fabulous group!
@_JeffreyD_ ~ I don't find a lot of men in any of my groups. Glad you're here bringing the male perspective. Storms were bad this week. I had to go get my sister (90 minutes away) and bring to my house due to power outage. Glad you had a generator to use. Oh and BTW, looks like Richard @richardhaw is here . Welcome Richard!!
@khahn72856 ~ Congrats on 64+ days sober. Welcome to the group. It takes a while to analyze and understand relationships with food. Planning for weeks at a time and tracking seems to work for me as i can go back and see what happened when the scale doesn't go in the desired direction.
@StacyTonneman, @Losingit8305, @driniou ~ welcome!
@reshii_devi ~ Welcome back! I have the old school step bench. Once I find it, I will add it back to my workout area. Let me know how the portable stepper is working for you.
@Leigh_b ~ Hang in there.....and you did. Nice recovery!
@Chapter_3 ~ Awesome nsv....body composition change! Kudos. Where are you finding those golden nuggets? I see the @ therossharkness at the bottom ....Figured easier to just ask than go searching. Good Stuff!
@Skyleen75 ~ Keep at it, I'm seeing those 160's in your near future!!
@Jensmakingprogress ~ very nice downward trend you've got going!
@AR10at50 ~ WoW! Silly question here: How do you "catch" such a large fish? I remember days fishing with my Dad, everything was hook and line.... Would love to hear the details.
@judefit1 ~ Good luck to your daughter in the ironman! The different personalities in your daughters is interesting. Love it that they are best friends!
@fmfdfa2020 ~ I know the "just one <fill in the blank> won't hurt" logic quite well. It's like there's never just one ant! Good for you for not giving in.
@_JeffreyD_ , @utMom81 ~ Love your nerdy spreadsheets. I too have a nerdy spreadsheet that I've maintained for years!!
@deepwoodslady ~ I totally feel you and 100% relate. I have gained all (except 1 lb) that I lost this year. But, here's my positive look. While I've put it back on, with a little focus, I feel (hope) it will come off just as quickly....and even though I've gained, my clothes do not fit the same as they did in January, so there has been a change in body composition and I'm happy about this. Similar to @Chapter_3, I've realized this is life long and there will be ups and downs....as long as I don't throw the towel in permanently, I will be ok. Hang in there!
@tiabirdie56 ~ you are quietly kicking butt!
@Smoda61, not a bad idea reporting in again. One another group a member did just that. She reported in the AM (planning the day) and then checked back in at the end of the day reporting the results. I will probably incorporate something like that after vacation to get back on track. Good Luck
Ok, the boxes are calling......
Have a great Sunday everyone!

On Saturday I travelled to see my daughter. Weight went up. I almost did not post this morning. There is nothing else to do but to keep trying! Ok, I am just going to say this. My daughter is a professional dancer. I travelled to Los Angeles to see her in Newsies at the Carpenter Center. I have been watching her dance since she was 3. I am so proud of her, and she was wonderful. This morning my focus is on the fact my weight went up 1 lb. not that fact that I have an incredible daughter that is living her dream.
I cant put my finger on it but there is something in my mindset that is not approaching my weight loss efforts in “a healthy manner” It feels obsessive and not helpful.

Woke up super hungry and I’m patiently waiting for brunch. Planning on a lazy afternoon napping with my dogs. Could use one more day in this weekend to get some housework done.5 -
@musicsax
I’m going to go out on a limb here… forgive me if I have stepped over any boundaries….
I recognize that your posts mention “X amount of exercise calories eaten back”
I’m assuming you are a premium subscriber to MFP and I am as well. I opted to NOT turn on this option. In my mind, it gave me permission to eat more and I wasn’t convinced it was accurate … I also doubt my watch is accurate… So I decided to play it safe & I turned that option off. I looked back over my entries & my average calorie burned is 500-700 active cal per day… I do not eat these back and it still takes me forever to lose a pound. I’m mentioning this because I’m assuming that MFP uses a logarithm and I don’t believe it is a “one size fits all”. I opted to be as conservative as possible. I truly believe that if I ate into my active calories burned I would see little to no movement on the scale or progress. I’m only offering this from my perspective and hoping it might help. Everyone is different.
@_JeffreyD_ I believe your conundrum regarding macros (shifting amounts) is related to your setting preferences re: credit for activity. (The same feature that I mention above). Perhaps your preferences are allow for changing calorie and macro goals when activity increases. MFP gives you the option of how to assign your macros when activity allows a calorie adjustment …. To increase your macros, proportionately, or by %. All of that is way too complicated for me, so I just turned it off…
Sometimes keeping it simple is the best way to go. I’m thinking that many may not be familiar with these bells & whistles, so I just thought I would share from my personal experience. I’m hoping this kernel of information could be helpful.5 -

Day. Weight. Comments.
7/15 - 196.8
Ok, here we go, off on a new round. I’m determined to move the needle this round.
7/16 - 197
When I said “move the needle,” I meant the other way. 😊 It’s ok, it’s a delayed reaction from the weekend away.
7/17 - 196.8
We’re finally getting a little break in the heat for a few days—80s instead of 90s—so I’m planning some garden time to try to catch up with the weeds. @quiltingjaine and anyone else who likes flowers, here are some daylilies and anise hyssop for you. 😊
7/18 - 196.4
Good, I seem to be back on track.
7/19 - 197
Pfftttt. I have to get back to walking. I’ve been having gut issues all summer and have been afraid to get too far from facilities, but I’ve cut out coffee (waaaa!) and cutting back on fats and it seems to be helping. I’m not 100% confident yet, but getting there. We have a fabulous trail system here and I’m eager to get back on it. I don’t know how I got out of the habit of 5-8 miles walking most days. I did get a get of exercise yesterday in the garden, but it’s not enough. Maybe I’ll try walking some loops around our house and see how it goes.
7/20 - 197
I confess, I had triscuits and cheese late last night. Not the worst snack nutritionally, but I didn’t need the calories. Oh well!
7/21 - 197
DH wanted to go out for Italian yesterday, so we had late lunch/early dinner. I had tilapia Florentine and skipped the pasta, so other than higher salt than usual, I was on track. It was delicious! I couldn’t sleep last night—last time I looked it was 4 a.m.—so I’m a bit groggy this morning. Maybe I’ll take a nap in place of lunch. 😊

One summer long ago I had a wonderful looking crop of green beans. I took our girls to visit my parents and when we returned, 2 weeks later, there were rows of beans hanging on bare branches! The attack of GRASSHOPPERS in Colorado. DH was home but apparently it didn’t take long for the plants to be stripped!

7/15 212.0 Working out last night wasn’t easy after taking time off for vacation, but it wasn’t as hard as I expected. This week’s goal is to get back on track with water and logging food. Hoping I can lose at least 1 pound from where I was before vacation.
7/16 210.8 Moving in the right direction. Forced myself to get out and walk in the heat yesterday. Took my water with me and got another 24 oz in during the walk. It was worth it.
7/17 209.0 Almost back down to pre-vacation weight. Increased my walk this week to 2 miles a day. Feeling good right now.
7/18 208.6 Work lunch yesterday and I ate more carbs than usual. Drank more water though and hit 2.5 miles walking. I’m back to pre-vacation weight and getting closer to 20 pounds lost! Going to celebrate this small win with some walking today, but otherwise resting on the exercise front.
7/19 208.0
7/20 DNW Was hungry late last night and indulged in Taco Bell after game night with friends. I’m feeling the yuck of high sodium, bad nutrition today, but that’s okay because tomorrow will be better.
7/21 209.6 Late night ice cream for the kill. Oh yeah and chips and salsa. Apparently this weekend is all about satisfying cravings. I’m going to have to be better if I’m going to hit my goal in the next 3 days.5 -

GW Maintaining between 124 - 126
Continuing to figure out maintaining, and to work on best nutrition and exercise.
History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a two grandsons. We have two parents, 87(mother), 85(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my mother’s care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

I know how to make good choices, and I know the empowering feeling that comes with it. I just CAN NOT seem to flip the switch back. Going to pre-track my day today and tomorrow (entertaining for dinner). Let’s see how this shakes out. I’ll keep you updated.
7/21 – 133.6 Not sure the scale is correct. We are cat sitting DD’s cat’s so we have 4 cats here who don’t fully get along. Her big boy, Milo, likes to sit on my scale which I think messes with it’s zero-ing. Yesterday’s first weight was 122. Nope. Not a chance. Thank you Milo. :P Anyhow, I made it through yesterday being honest and tracking and DID NOT BINGE in the evening. This morning I even got in a walk. Not a great one, and it had a couple false starts, but I got out there. Need to sit and pre-track my day now, even though it is nearing mid-day. Entertaining tonight, so I need to think it thorugh.

@_JeffreyD_ I have never used MFP for tracking. I use Senza. It’s free, I can change my macros to what works for me and when I log something it deducts those macros from my daily goals/limits. By tapping that area it will show how much I have gone over or am under. the only thing I wish was different is the label above each. I can change from total carbs to net carbs easily, should I want.
CAL TC PRO FAT
So yesterday I was under calories, over on protein and under on fat. Carbs show an “over” arrow but 0 quantity. Later this morning their algorithm will give me a score. Not sure how that works but I will try to remember to post it too.2 -

7/17 133.0 SEVEN YEARS AGO TODAY I arrived on this platform and started keto/LCHF. It’s been so an interesting ride. For the first time since we moved to Las Vegas our power was out for an hour last night. Our daughter insisted that we come to their house for the night because she had a/c and we didn’t. As we packed an overnight bag the power came on. All is well and all of the flashlights have new batteries.😁
7/18 133.0 Last night was Bingo. DD#2 was experiencing chest pain and since cardiologist told her last week that he’s fairly certain she’s had 2 heart attacks she was panicky and spent the whole day at the ER getting tests only to be sent home at 8:30pm with nothing found. Having experienced this myself many years ago, I suspect any chest pain no matter how small caused a panic attack. She has a stress test a week from tomorrow. In the meantime, her knee surgery which was supposed to be this past Monday is on hold. She wanted to get it done before school starts on August eighth.

7/20 131.5 I’m keeping my total carbs super low and if I do want something extra I make it protein (and fat) - usually some cheese.

Thank you for logging in twice yesterday… The willingness to try something new addressing the deep desire to change directions… We can all learn from your persistence. When you know, you know… The TIME for change, and doing something different for a jumpstart. Perhaps a new daily habit. 💪🏻
@chapter_3 nice of you to comment. It is so interesting how, for me, it is a momentum issue. Once I get things moving the right way, it tends to get easier. When stumbling occurs for long enough, it is so so hard to turn it back around.
I really have trouble understanding my logic, as I fully, clearly know the choices/actions I am taking (bad or good) and when the bad are happening, it is not an "oops". I have no interest in overriding it. I cannot tell you how many times in the last two months I have walked into the grocery store and have thought "this time, no ice cream'. Then, I decide to "just take a look". I will even look and walk past, just to double back again, and end up buying two pints of ice cream. They are eaten in less than 24 hours and sometimes a couple hours from getting home.
In contrast, when i am moving the right way, I can walk past literally anything and not even blink, and that action feels positive and empowering.
I would love to understand this all better so that I solely remain in the positive state.4 -
This morning before DD and DGS woke up I was really thinking about what has been going on this year in my “diet” life and plan. I really realized how much my renovations have stood in the way of my old habits. I have had a lot of renovations in the past couple of years but they always stop before Thanksgiving and the break lasts through January (so I can undecorate Christmas). I actually did better during that down time last year even with the holidays than I have done since (during the renos). I realized that I am just not cooking like I did before. Much more processed food in my diet. Much more sodium. I usually skip breakfast for IF. Lunch has mainly been a quick sandwich (on low carb bread with fresh avocado instead of mayo), dinner is usually something frozen or very processed and quick. While it often technically fits into my macros I know that it is standing in the way. Most of you who know me know that I am not a veggie eater or a fruit eater as I do have some eating disorders in regards to those. But honestly, I’m just too drained by the time the crew leaves every day to cook what I can eat. And it’s difficult to cook for one to begin with. There is also not much pleasure in sitting down and eating alone most of the time so dinner is just eaten to quickly satisfy my hunger. It is already challenging enough trying to watch my sugars (I’m diabetic), keep my meals heart-healthy (prior heart attack and stent), and to watch my calories and carbs. I just don’t have the answers because I still have months of renovations ahead of me. Weekends are tough to batch cook because of my DD and DGS being here. And I am often so busy already just trying to clean up the house after the men, catch up on laundry, do my shopping, make my visits to my friends/family because I can’t leave during the week etc. I run ragged on the weekends already and am often babysitting on top of it all. Sorry for another long post but any ideas are appreciated. If I find the time today, I may try to look for simple and easy recipes that won’t completely drain me. I made scrambled eggs the other day and it felt like I was cooking a 7 course meal for King Charles. It is so bad that I am even taking prenatal vitamins as advised by my doctor. I must say that I was dancing and exercising more often in the house in the years past, but now there is no room. I mean, my king size bed is still in the livingroom and my bedroom furniture is parked all over the house. I am seriously lacking space and most of the day I can’t leave for walks. I do get a little time on my exercise bike when I’m not too exhausted. Help, my friends! I don’t see that there are any answers but maybe someone out there will think of something I haven’t.4

07/19 -188.0- (Trend weight188.7)
07/20 -186.2- (Trend weight188.4) A nice little drop today which has made me wake up incredibly hungry. Today will likely be a battle, especially since my Foodie DD and DGS are here again. Yesterday she worked all day and then they were invited somewhere for dinner so that really helped me stick to my macros. Today I am not sure of their plans yet but with this hunger, I hope they will leave for the day so I will not have so much temptation. This is part of the “backbone and not wishbone” that I was talking about the other day, I suppose. My macros have been consistently showing that I am way over on my sodium levels. Mainly because of cottage cheese (or other low carb cheeses). It also really hurts when I eat anything processed, like lunch meat for a sandwich or breakfast meat of any kind with my eggs. Of course, as a diabetic I have to watch my sugars too. When my sodium is a bit lower, my sugars tend to show higher grams. Gosh its tough to balance all the macros and the sodium and sugars too all while counting both calories and carbs. Its like a full time job! I have a few go-to meals that work wonderfully but if I overdo them I end up in a boredom binge to defy ever having to eat them again! The battle is ON today. 1. Stay away from daughter. 2. Prelog and stick to eating plan. 3. Get in some exercise. 4. Watch my macros. 5. Watch EVERY stat but especially the salt and sugar for health reasons. 6. Stay creative. Wednesday is my stress test for my heart. It’s been almost 2 yrs since my last one. Last time they ended up placing a stent in the heart. I want to stay extra good on my plan between now and Wednesday.
07/21 -188.0- (Trend weight188.5) Back up after a nice lunch out while shopping yesterday (out-of-town). Too many snacks last night on top of it all. Another quick-grab day that did not serve me.

@deepwoodslady I can totally understand your quandary. In your situation, I know I would be doing exactly the same. I know this because of what I see tripping me up as well.
I think we need to remember ourselves in all this. When the reno people are there, could you not go grab a peaceful walk? I am trying to get my walking back in place. For me, since I avoid the sun (I hate sunscreen), I need to get outside early. Early might not work for you as you likely have to receive the workers each day. Could you get away, if you told them your schedule?
Food. I need to go back and look at my old tracking and steal ideas from myself. What worked before and was easy? I know I've done it. I just can't remember. Right now, I have a bunch of eggs hard boiling for tomorrow. I am planning on driving to my parents empty "weekend" home for another day of clean out tomorrow (last time there were there is pre-COVID, and dad died last October). It was there second home and equally hoarded. Almost 3 hours from my primary home, but only an hour and a half from our condo in Maine. Sorry, got side tracked there....... Point is I trying to figure out how to eat healthy tomorrow, in a bag lunch, and trying to plan ahead so those things are easy access for tomorrow, but also the following days. Maybe go look in your trackers from a year or so ago?
When I am doing well, breakfast and lunch take no thought and are the same each day. Dinner is the only meal I invest much time in. Repeat your dinners. Example meatloaf with sides, but serve it two days in a row.
Lastly, back to the walking. Put together a really great playlist that leaves you energized, and you look forward to. My mood changes a lot when I walk with music.
Hope it all turns around soon!

RND 266 (my 14th)
SW (first round) 155.8
SW (this round) 149.7
Last round was a complete fail - was out of town for 6 of the 10 days so could not weigh - but also without a lot of routine or complete control over the menu. I did, however, have control over how much I ate - which I also did not do a good job of controlling for the majority of the time.
7/15 - 151.2 - a very disappointing start to this round. The last round was not particularly successful - but I tried to stay focused the last two days. I was not able to weigh - but I did log everything I ate and stayed under my calorie goal. It is frustrating to see my diligence paid back with a gain rather than a loss (or even maintain). Staying on track today. Hoping the needle will move tomorrow.
7/16 ‐ 148.3 much happier with that. The weekend diligence paid off - although I was quite hungry today so did not do as well as I did the past 3. I haven't had a good return to running…just as i think my foot is ready, i injure something else. Hoping to feel pain free enough to run in the morning.
7/17 - 149.0
7/18 - 149.5
7/19 - 149.2
7/20 - 149.1
7/21 - 148.9 - my consistency is lacking again this round. Just SO much going on. I’ve told myself that at the very least I need to weigh in and then can come and post and update as I find the time. Managed two runs - yesterday and today without incident. They were SLOW, but I got them done. Hoping to continue the streak into tomorrow morning and then will give myself a rest day on Tuesday.

@deepwoodslady Are any of the meal delivery services an option for you? Like Factor or Home Chef? They wouldn't require you to cook, but they are healthier than frozen and may be enough of a change to make dinner less a "must do" and more of a chance to relax and let go of some of the stress of the day.
You can usually pick the type of meals you want, or even the meals delivered for the whole week so you get what you need nutritionally. My family switched to Every Plate about 6 months ago and it changed everything for us, including saving money because I'm not buying a bunch of high-priced, over-processed, foods.
I'm not sure if this would help you or not, or if it's even a possibility, but it's an idea. I hope you find something that works for you.4 -

SW RND 266
7/15 139.4 – (trend 139.8) just 4.71 miles walked, all exercise calories +200 eaten back.
7/16 139.4 – (trend 139.7) 7.7 miles walked, 88% of exercise calories eaten back. Walking today will be a challenge, rain started yesterday late afternoon & has not stopped yet, at times it has been torrential ☹. Usual Tuesday lunch out with DS’s planned for later.
7/17 139.8 – (trend 139.7) 5.75 miles walked in a small non-raining window, all exercise calories +163 eaten. Rain finally stopped, it’s going to be a lovely day today 😊.
7/18 DNW
7/19 141 – (trend 140) – no structured walking, yesterday we left home early to travel to a caravanning DF of 25 years funeral. He had bravely fought prostrate cancer for the last 9 years. It was an outdoor wake with a hog roast & cider, exactly what he would have organised for himself. RIP DF. Struggled the last few days with afternoon snacks, need to get back on track (yet again ☹!!), 5 days to do this.
7/20 DNW - 10.73 miles walked yesterday. Away in the caravan in Sherwood Forest. Really struggling, need to get will power back. Plenty of walking in the agenda.
7/21 DNW - 12.73 miles walked, less than 40% exercise calories eaten back. Yesterday was very therapeutic lots of heart to heart with DH & also meditation whilst enjoying the forest walking, feel happier with myself this morning and back in the groove!! It was yet another bump in the road.
7/22 140 – (trend 140.2) 5 miles walked before we headed to home, after unpacking it was a spell in the garden, tidying, dead heading, weeding etc., only 44 exercise calorie eaten back.

@Onewomanswalk - welcome back, I hope your new knee goes from strength to strength and that continues to have a positive effect on your healthy eating programme. Have a quick recovery xx4

@Chapter_3 I have strong feelings about this concept of “eating back exercise calories”. I will save you all from a detailed, in depth eight paragraph rant.
This concept triggers an unhealthy loop for people to earn food with exercise.
Instead I focus on eating to fuel exercise not exercising to eat more.
Beyond that as you pointed out, the math just doesn’t math.
@deepwoodslady I’m wondering if you have to be on site the entire time the workers are there? Is it because you need to answer questions? Or do you not trust the workers in your house? Forgive me for overstepping but is it a control issue?
I’ve had major construction done and there were times we’d greet them in the morning and head off to work for the day. Other days I’d be in and out all day.
As someone who works at peoples homes, I would hate it if the home owners felt like they had to be there for me to do my job.
It just sounds like a lot of this stress could be helped if you could space your errands out through the week on your own schedule. Prioritize yourself!
OMG I sound terrible- lol if any of this could be so easy!!!

Feb 5th 2024- 200.4
I enjoy reading everyone’s posts with my morning coffee.
Rnd 266 End Weight 173.8
7/15- 173.8
7/16- 174.2
7/17- 175.0
7/18- 175.2
7/19- 175.4
7/20- 175.4
7/21- 175.4
7/22- 175.0 not bad considering it was DH birthday weekend and ended yesterday with pizza and wings. I really do need to focus on more water. I’m hoping I don’t have a delayed bump up from all the junk I ate yesterday.
As always my early morning optimism is in place and I’m hopeful I can make good choices today.5 -
@khahn72856: I can feel your pain about your daughter and yourself; you're in the right place to share these thoughts and hopefully being here and verbalizing will help you sort it out. When I don't feel good about myself, it's very hard to see through that curtain of self-judgment, maybe that's part of what's happening to you. Keep at it, we're with you...

@SModa61: Oh, boy the ice cream image is strong! I don't pretend to know what helps turn off the cravings, that's why I'm here too. My experience this year is that sugar addiction is a real and potent issue for me and once I open the floodgate it's no different than smoking (which I quit 20 yrs ago); I'll not only crave more sugar, but I'll start snacking on sugar's happy cousins, salty/fatty things too.. Being here is keeping me aware that I haven't changed, I'm just in "management" and all of you help me stay there, so thank you for sharing- it's a great reminder!
