07/22 -DNW- (Trend weightDNW) Yesterday was out-of-control with the snacking. I really paid attention and portion control does seem to be the biggest issue. I continue to eat “approved” and healthy foods, but one thing right after another. I don’t need one each of ALL the snacks. Just pick one Donna and be satisfied!!!! I am hungry at meal times but do well at home for my meals. At snack time, it’s nothing short of ridiculous and I’m usually not even very hungry. Just cravings!!! I mean, I’m glad I LOVE my healthy choices but why so many, why so much? No wonder Dr. Nowzaradan makes his patients see a psychologist. Too bad we don’t have one within 100 miles of my home. I’ll just keep reading my health and weight loss books and being thankful for all of you, my support group!
07/23 -188.2- (Trend weight188.8) A tiny blip up from last weigh-in but down 0.6 from one week ago today according to another challenge I’m in. Something is better than nothing! No sleep last night because I spent the whole night releasing water. However, I’m feeling a lot less bloated today. Tomorrow is my nuclear stress test early in the morning. I’ll be able to hop on the scale but can’t post until tomorrow evening. I want to make sure I get my weight for our final weigh-in of the challenge. Wow, this 10 days went FAST!

Pfftttt. I have to get back to walking. I’ve been having gut issues all summer and have been afraid to get too far from facilities, but I’ve cut out coffee (waaaa!) and cutting back on fats and it seems to be helping. I’m not 100% confident yet, but getting there. We have a fabulous trail system here and I’m eager to get back on it. I don’t know how I got out of the habit of 5-8 miles walking most days. I did get a get of exercise yesterday in the garden, but it’s not enough. Maybe I’ll try walking some loops around our house and see how it goes.

I confess, I had triscuits and cheese late last night. Not the worst snack nutritionally, but I didn’t need the calories. Oh well!

DH wanted to go out for Italian yesterday, so we had late lunch/early dinner. I had tilapia Florentine and skipped the pasta, so other than higher salt than usual, I was on track. It was delicious! I couldn’t sleep last night—last time I looked it was 4 a.m.—so I’m a bit groggy this morning. Maybe I’ll take a nap in place of lunch. 😊

July 17 - 173.8 - Yep, 3 days in a row, LOL. I've found a way to keep my cravings from hitting so hard in the afternoons. It's simple but it's working. I've flipped my oatmeal or shredded wheat from morning to afternoon. The complex carbs do the trick.
July 18 - 172.6 - Finally, a drop! The old me tried to come out yesterday. I was donating to a cat rescue thrift shop and across the street was a convenient store. All the years I worked from home I would go out at lunch and get chips and diet coke even though I didn't have it in the house on purpose. Anyway, I was thinking just a small bag of salty, greasy, carby chips (how can I like those things) won't hurt. I then thought about all the work I've done to get where I am and also to get the scale to drop, and all the times I give in right before I'm going to have a drop. The problem is that one bag would lead to one more bag, etc., and my cravings will take off. I'm proud of myself, which seems weird to say, because on the surface it doesn't sound that bad to have just a small bag of chips, but for me it starts it all up again. Thanks for listening!
July 19 - 172.6 - 172.X stuck for another day - YAY!
July 20 - 172.6 - Wow, another weight showing up the same for 3 days straight. As part of my plan to eat more vegetables/fiber, I cooked two bags of organic carrots this morning. It's just too hot to roast them so I cooked them in my dutch oven on top of the stove with butter (I was out of olive oil), salt, paprika and garlic powder. I let them brown some and then a little chicken broth to remove from bottom of pan. They tasted so good. A serving was 67 calories and 5g fiber. I did not peel, I just scrubbed them really good.
July 21- 172.6 - Groundhog Day on the scale again today. My plan to hopefully see a new LOWER number tomorrow is eat on the low end of my calorie cycyling, drink 80oz of water, and eat less carbs. We'll see if this does the trick. I'm good though because at least it's not going up. It's just weird having the same number 4 days straight.
July 22 - 172.4 - I'm glad the .6 didn't show up today! I hate cooking so I tend to do anything fast and easy. Yesterday I threw a bunch of skinless, boneless chicken breast into my dutch oven with spices and a little chicken broth. I didn't even brown them first, just straight from the container to the pot. I cooked on 350 degrees for over an hour. I knew I would be shredding because they wouldn't be good any other way after cooking this way. I then steamed a large pot of broccoli. With these and the big pot of carrots from the day before, we can eat on these most of the week. My husband mixes with rice.

@deepwoodslady Donna, have you tried one of the injectable meds? DD#1 took Mounjero (she’s not diabetic) she did really well losing cravings and hunger. She lost 40# but as has been publicized she regained some. As a diabetic the rules, I believe, are different. Dd#2 took Ozempic but didn’t have the drastic loss her sister had and she was paying a lot more so she stoped. Now even WW seems to be pushing the drugs.1

Round goals: > 3 miles/day walking (1:00 time wise), track diet and be under goals, golf, driving range or gym in addition to walking.
7/17 Wed: 193.8 lbs, 1:04 walking, diet under goal, driving range.
7/18 Thu: 192.0 lbs, 3:36 walking or jogging a bit, diet under goal, and an hour at the driving range. Got in a lot of walking but trying to put some jogging in the mix didn't work out that well, have knee issues and hoping to get some jogging in the mix but not sure how that's going to work out.
7/19 Fri: 190.1 lbs, 1:03 walking, hit diet goals, 9 hole round of golf.
7/20 Sat: 193.3, no walking, leg (quads) issue, barbecue and boating for my wife's work team so diet a bit off also.
7/21 Sun: 193.2, diet still off. Charity golf outing so payed 18 holes but 3+ hour drive each didn't do much for my back or leg so no other exercising.
7/22 Mon: Didn't weigh and diet still off.
7/23 Tue: 194.3, going the wrong way but my weight varies day to day a bit. Got it 1:20 walk at noon at least. Back and leg still bothering me some.

@deepwoodslady @Jensmakingprogress daily-harvest is another good delivery service! They can be a little pricey but worth every penny. I use them off and on a few times a year. Love the smoothies.
@itladyee It's been a minute, lol ~ are you packing or unpacking? I went too hard a few days ago, and my knee has been tender ever since. Haven't really used the stepper yet, but the test run seems promising!My experience this year is that sugar addiction is a real and potent issue for me and once I open the floodgate it's no different than smoking (which I quit 20 yrs ago); I'll not only crave more sugar, but I'll start snacking on sugar's happy cousins, salty/fatty things too.. Being here is keeping me aware that I haven't changed, I'm just in "management" and all of you help me stay there, so thank you for sharing- it's a great reminder!
Yep hand raised me too. I also quit smoking 20 yrs ago and call it Sugar Crack. Focusing on toxicity is how I quit smoking but that doesn't work with the sugar. Even knowing what I know, I'm still constantly at war with myself. Sugar addiction is 20x worse!! But all I can do is keep trying ...

Ended up drinking cocktails late Saturday evening, and wine and bread and cheese and chocolate and way too much nibbling of this and that all day Sunday. Didn't record any of it and was having too good a time to care enough to count. Making up for it Monday ended up being a 1K Day (my first in a month) but got benched by a migraine last night and most of this morning. Slowly getting it together today, aiming for @ least 500 cals burned by midnight.

May 22: I had packed some shorts to change into after swim without trying them on. They were so tight last summer, I expected the fit to be better ~ but when I put them on ... wow. I was in front of the locker room mirrors and was like omg, that's you. How long has it been since you looked/felt like that? I was spinning around looking at myself for a good 2-3 minutes, y'all, lol ~ my New #1NSV
May 4: 10 of the 20 inches lost was off my belly! No pics, no proof, lol ~ I love/hate taking photos because they've become one of my best tools. You can't lie and you can't hide. Putting myself on blast 1) creates incentive to increase effort and 2) highlights new areas to focus on. Still a long way from my ultimate goals, but its nice to see muscle memory is real! At a size 15, I haven't been this small in more than 10 years.

Lost less than a pound, 1.25 inches combined on arms and legs | regained 0.2% body fat and 1/2 inch back on my belly. Starting dietary 200-400 calorie deficit and Intermittent Fasting 18-24 hrs. Breaking fast differently, including more protein, and continuing to look for new ways to increase step count and add more strength in May.
January 1st - April 1st, I've lost 17 pounds and a total of 20.8 inches from 11 areas. 🥳 Thrilled to see my hard work reversing prediabetes and years of physical damage. Getting leaner and stronger and chair dancing proud of myself about it!! 57 and hormonal, it's taken longer than expected and a much rougher road than my youth.
Reaching onederland (March 13th) meant the end of 10+ years and up to 80 pounds!! gained and relost too many times to count. Yo-yoing is the main reason for so much body fat!!! Determined not to continue to self-sabotage ... I need a new target!! If I should lose an additional 8% body fat to reach the "standard" for my age, height and sex ~ and up to 15% more to reach excellent ~ that's @ least another 8-15 months of work before I can begin to relax and think maintenance.8 -

@SModa61 ~ I am right with you on the logic thing. When I'm in the right place, mentally, it's awesome, but lose that space and waking moment is a challenge. I don't have cat so I hope my scale remains in the downward position
@Deepwoodslady ~ You've got a lot of moving pieces going on. The first thing I would do is grab a spiral bond notebook and begin to write things down. It would be your planner, your journal, your fact book, what ever you want to call it, but use it to plan what you want to happen and then record what really happens. With all that you said, I would focus on one area and one day. If you're not going to do breakfast because of IF (that's fine) then focus on lunch or dinner. Keep it simple. Do you eat any type of veggie? I would focus on protein and a vegetable if there are any that you tolerate, and then repeat the next day.
As I said, you've got a lot of things going on and I think (in my non professional opinion) is that you should try to focus on one area for improvement, when you succeed, then aim for the next.
Have you considered a food service for your meals. Factor looks interesting but I haven't looked into it.
I see that @Jensmakingprogress has suggested this as well. I've not heard of Every Plate, sounds interesting too.
@Onewomanswalk ~ Welcome back. How are you feeling just a few days after the total knee replacement. My husband had both knees done, one about 8 years ago and one just this past year.

@itladyee not even my cat. DD and her family are on a summer vacation. So we have her two and our two. My boys don't sit on the human scale. Mr. Milo does cause he follows me into the bathroom in the morning hoping to convince me to head to the kitchen and fill his feeder, and he sits on my scale.
But all 4 cats are very used to the infant scale as they are weighed on it regularly. My Han would be obese if not monitored and Harry would waste away. It's good to be able to check them more often than an annual Vet appointment. DD's get weighed by me every time I care for them, so much less often.
Did I miss that you are not currently tracking? If so, what led you to this?

A few weeks ago, we were talking with Hubby's uncle who is diabetic. He mentioned his emergency bag. It used to contain capri sun juice pouches. Then Capri Sun went "healthier" and cut the sugar. I guess there is not enough in them anymore when in trouble. I suggested he look at the copycat products. Maybe they did not cut the sugar. Just an idea for something that could be kept in a purse, or the like.2 -

7/16 139.4 – (trend 139.7) 7.7 miles walked, 88% of exercise calories eaten back. Walking today will be a challenge, rain started yesterday late afternoon & has not stopped yet, at times it has been torrential ☹. Usual Tuesday lunch out with DS’s planned for later.

7/19 141 – (trend 140) – no structured walking, yesterday we left home early to travel to a caravanning DF of 25 years funeral. He had bravely fought prostrate cancer for the last 9 years. It was an outdoor wake with a hog roast & cider, exactly what he would have organised for himself. RIP DF. Struggled the last few days with afternoon snacks, need to get back on track (yet again ☹!!), 5 days to do this.
7/20 DNW - 10.73 miles walked yesterday. Away in the caravan in Sherwood Forest. Really struggling, need to get will power back. Plenty of walking in the agenda.
7/21 DNW - 12.73 miles walked, less than 40% exercise calories eaten back. Yesterday was very therapeutic lots of heart to heart with DH & also meditation whilst enjoying the forest walking, feel happier with myself this morning and back in the groove!! It was yet another bump in the road.

@deepwoodslady DH and I like to say “we bought a lot of charm”. My next house will have no charm. It will have a Cold War Eastern European vibe with a lot of concrete and maybe drains in every floor so I can just hose things off. There will be none of this Victorian detail and 100 year old bad wiring.7

7/24- 174.8 My first round since February that ended with a gain. I’m pretty sure that I have done some recomposition and at least part of this gain has some muscle in it. It is very difficult to both lose weight and gain muscle so I’m guessing the numbers aren’t always going to look how I want.
I also have to be honest that summer time ice cream might be a pitfall! And burgers and and brunch and boat cocktails🤣 I really do have to reflect on my hedonistic tendencies.
NSV I am very comfortably wearing a sports bra that I had retired last year because it was so tight I couldn’t breath. I’ve also gotten some very positive feedback from some of my workout friends this last week, exactly when I needed to hear it!
Good news is by ending at a high number I can make my next round look like a huge success if I can get my head in the game.7 -

7/15 171.2 My food consumption was well within range yesterday, and I got in a good walk before Emberly got up. Drank a LOT of water after spending the afternoon in the heat on the boat, so maybe that explains some of the uptick. Oh well, today is another day to make good choices and hope they show up on the scale.

I’m still eating many of the seafood treats we love when we come to Florida (some of them are fried), but serving sizes have been much reasonable. I don’t feel deprived, and I am satiated. There’s a small key lime pie in the fridge, but I’ve eaten it in small servings and tracked everything, staying with calorie range and pretty close to macro goals.

Don't hate me, but I want to share a summer fruit pie recipe I tried yesterday that tasted so good. I made it with blueberries, but it will also work with peaches. I put the recipe into MFP using the Swerve and it comes to about 190 calories per slice (8 slices per pie). Hubby LOVED it, too, because it didn't taste like a sugar substitute product. So for those of you who cook for others, this might be a good treat for your family.
I don't know if you can see the recipes I put into MFP, but see if you see Russell Blueberry Pie. If not, here's the link to the recipe, but it uses sugar. I used equal amount of Swerve granulated. I know sugar substitutes aren't the best, but I don't use it very often. I didn't make a crust, but instead used the Pillsbury Ready Crust from the dairy section.

I will pass on brief info on swerve. I got exciting about the recipe as I need to bring desert to my son's and his girlfriend's cookout this weekend, and DH and son KILL for blueberry pie. But Girlfriend has some sort of IBS, and low FODMAP concept is a tool I use for cooking safer for her. so I googled SWERVE. Results: Swerve contains erythritol and oligosaccharides, both of which are high in FODMAPS, which can cause digestive issues. Anyhow, I'll be making the pie and use the swerve suggestion, but not to bring over to my son's house. Thanks again Utmom81
Edit to add: so I looked up which foods have oligosaccharides and they include the garlic, onion, and wheat that I know she cannot eat. Ironic thing is, guess what else has oligosaccharides? Blueberries. Ya, probably should not make her a pie with wheat crust, blueberries and swerve.........3 -

History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a two grandsons. We have two parents, 87(mother), 85(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my mother’s care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

7/21 – 133.6 Not sure the scale is correct. We are cat sitting DD’s cat’s so we have 4 cats here who don’t fully get along. Her big boy, Milo, likes to sit on my scale which I think messes with it’s zero-ing. Yesterday’s first weight was 122. Nope. Not a chance. Thank you Milo. :P Anyhow, I made it through yesterday being honest and tracking and DID NOT BINGE in the evening. This morning I even got in a walk. Not a great one, and it had a couple false starts, but I got out there. Need to sit and pre-track my day now, even though it is nearing mid-day. Entertaining tonight, so I need to think it through.
7/22 – 136.0 I think this confirms that big boy cat impacted the scale’s zero-ing. Despite that, yesterday was good. I did get out and walk. Only my third walk since returning from Florida first of May. In Florida, I walked at least 5 out of 7 days and did some decent mileage.. Yesterday was only a bit over 2 miles and could not fully get my pace back. But I did enjoy it.I tracked everything yesterday, and did planning which caused me to edit choices as I was going to exceed my goal. Evening was tough, and I almost did my evening check-in but felt silly. The leftover homemade Flan was calling my name, and I did not go back. Heading to my parents second home, that I have to get emptied out so it can get sold. Trying to go there once a month until it is clean enough to speak with a RE agent. Will be pre-tracking my food and packing it up to so I don’t visit DD or fast food en-route either way. I doubt I will get a walk today, unless I squeeze one in in the evening. Have a good day all!
7/23 – 134.4 I believe the scale has recovered from Mr. fat cat. Yesterday, was productive. No official walk, but I did lots of physical labor, and even I tweaked my back despite DH warning me to be careful. Proud of what I accomplished. So far, I have removed 15 trucks full (GMC acadia) of contents from the second home, 10 to trash or recycling and 5 to donation or family. I figure I have 9 more truck loads to go, and it will be ready for RE to put the house on the market.
On another note, yesterday was a great example of why to track. As I mentioned yesterday morning, I brought foods with me for the day, but I rushed at the last minute and did not pre-track. No time to do it during the day. Anyhow, I got home tired, hurting and hungry and grabbed a couple items for dinner (leftovers from the previous night), along with my Advil. And I sat down to track. I was confident I was safely at my target. I tracked it all, and looked at the macros. They didn’t make sense. I was VERY under on protein and carbs. It was only then that I looked at my calorie total. I was between 4 and 5 hundred calories UNDER my target. Had I not tracked, I would have stopped eating, likely gotten quite hungry later, or started today crazed, and inadvertently sabotaging my efforts. Yes, I added two hard boiled eggs, an ounce of cheese, and cup of decaf coffee (and two teeny candies – tracked as one of the standard larger ones). Three days making good choices. Feels good. Now for day four.
7/24 – 133.6 Made it through the day, or more importantly, the evening. Everything tracked and good. No exercise accomplished, but I’m noting any successes. Ended the round down. Grateful and a little shocked given how my round started. I have two rounds before I have to figure out if I have a dress that fits for a wedding that coming weekend. Pretty sure I got rid of everything that fits over the weight of 130 as I vowed to never cross it again.

Did I miss that you are not currently tracking? If so, what led you to this?
Not tracking or inconsistent tracking is totally temporary. When I moved, most decent habits were compromised! Slowly getting back into the swing of things and then I go on vacation next week. It will be mid August before I buckle down again.
