@NonnieDoiron ...@MissMay...For what it's worth...When impossibly stressed by the actions of others [read DH] I would take a large sponge and a bucket of water out into the yard and throw the soaked sponge as hard as I could against a tree...repeat until unable to lift arm...or too tired to remember why I was so angry. Very effective in the summertime. Better than drinking.
Been out of wine for several weeks, except for one bottle I'd been "saving". It got "unsaved " last week. All in one night. Again proving that moderation is not my strong suit.
Currently debating whether or not to restock my wine rack. So easy to go online and just order free delivery....
Living alone with no one to glance over and mention "Isn't that the second glass that you said you would stop with ??" /
Well, actually Catpuccino DOES glance over and meow " Haven't I mentioned that stuff STINKS ??" He is easily silenced with treats....9 -
@forestdweller1 Can I throw the sponge at hubby instead of an innocent tree?
I think he realized what he did wrong after I blew up at him and told him he could be mad all he wanted, but I didn’t care! He is such a big baby sometimes.🙄
Today, he is hurricane prepping. We’re in SC, and the governor has declared a state of emergency. I think it’s more for potential floods like the ones we had in 2015 during Hurricane Joaquin. But, whatever. I’m not one who gets over excited by weather. Hubby asked me what hurricane-preparedness shopping he needed to do today, and I actually did not say the usual words “buy wine”. I guess we’ll see what happens over the next 3 days.8 -
I vote throw the sponge at hubby
We have been in the worst part of this storm for several hours now. It has not stopped raining, and there is LOTS of flooding down here. It's supposed to be moving really slow by the time it gets to you guys, too. Stay safe and stay home if you can.
We ALMOST underestimated this one and had our drivers work today. We called it off at 10:00 PM last night and glad we did!
No wine for me last night and I finally got a little cleaning done and did a workout. Booyah!

Had another AF night by following the same routine….One Stella NA 0.0 early with steak dinner and a no alcohol Recess “margarita” mocktail after dinner with squeezed lime and stevia over ice. Totaling 85 calories for both!
We are having some work done on the house today and just about done with summer projects. Hope everyone stays safe in the heavy rains and hurricane warnings. We’re in No. California so I’ve never experienced that!

Here is a photo of my morning glories gone crazy! I started them from seeds and had no idea they would do so well - don’t even have the proper poles to lift them up and a producing tomato plant is hidden underneath it.

For everyone in the hurricane - please stay safe!
I live in SW Oregon. So like @Michieb125, I've never experienced one. We just have earthquakes and wildfires 🤔
I still haven't gotten one day for the month. But tomorrow is a new day!

@chicbuc glad you’re staying safe and you checked in!
Hurricane Joaquin stalled over us in 2015 and caused the worse flooding in 100 years in SC. We were fine then, and we’ll be fine now. It’s supposed to be riding the coast, and we’re in the Midlands. We’ll probably get a crap-ton of rain, and that’s about it.3 -
I think I was posting here awhile back...got locked out of my account and have returned. My goal was to have a dry August but we had a rodeo... Interestingly to note from May 1 to June 15 I was 100% AF lost 18lbs and then went camping and thought I would hop back on but its been a struggle.
My goal for Aug was 100% AF but the rodeo and the shin dig happened so I had a horrid hangover and anxiety and a ridiculous fight with my partner AND lost my phone.
Feeling good today ready to finish August strong.

Bought a “hurricane” bottle of wine today, but leaving it corked for now. Good night all.3 -
@NonnieDoiron I definitely would have done the same thing. Stay safe. Good night.2

Hi everyone, just found this thread and would like to hop on board! I’m at a point when I realise my wine habit is interfering with my goals and I’m getting sick of it. It will def be a process for me but I am starting today which feels exciting
Hoping to find some accountability here as well as offering support to anyone I can x11 -
Thank you for thread, have not been here for a while. Did a good 30-day AF month earlier in 2024 and tried moderate drinking and in no time went back to my 3 tall boy double IPAs in the evening and the resultant bad sleep, hanganxiety at work, weight loss sabotage, and concerned spouse. Today marks 10 days AF. When I got up this this morning my Garmin watch reported I got plenty of deep sleep (it never says that). Good luck all. @SurferGirl1982 I shared your wake-up middle of the night and drink habit. Was common for me to wake up 2-3 am go out to the couch and pour a very stiff vodka cranberry or pound another round of beer until 4am, sleep for three more hours and begin the work day in miserable transition from buzz to hangover.8

Welcome to all the newcomers, and old-comers back to us! I love this thread. I find inspiration and support every time I check in. Everyone’s story is so meaningful.
My goal is not AF, but just getting down to one glass of wine at night instead of 1.5 or 2. Last night was the first time I achieved my one drink goal- I definitely have more alcohol in the weekends. But for now I’m concentrating on the work week.
I’m back on track with logging food and especially drinks. I find it really helpful to actually use the app!
Lots to celebrate this past weekend… we put the down payment on the new boat, and my team won the District Championship! I also won my doubles court which helped get us to first place. I am extremely proud and over the moon happy! On to sectionals in 2 weeks!

I made the mistake of buying a couple bottles of wine for travel next weekend. It called my name last night. I drank one I just can't have it in the house, and it's literally only wine. Several bottles of liquor sit on my counter every day and do not affect me at all.

Will try to get back later to catch up on posts. Mom is a handful sometimes, I see why DS needed a two-month break.
Also prepping for Debby, hoping for not too much flooding.6 -
@Pokey4321 Your wake up in the middle of the night schedule was exactly like mine. Fortunately, I haven't been doing that lately. I try not to have any alcohol in the house after I go to bed.
Moderation doesn't work well for me either. I do good for a week or so and then go right back to daily drinking.4 -
Welcome to all new contributors and returning LA friends. Glad we’re all in this together!
Looking forward to offering support and also being accountable here.
My goal is to skip the wine at least half of the month - aiming for intermittent days. I accomplished this most months of 2023 and only a couple in 2024 so far. But I’m motivated for better energy, and weight loss and to end summer on a high note.
Had some leftover Prosecco last night, followed by some Chardonnay. I definitely feel it this morning after none two nights in a row. Back to AF tonight. Will try a Recess watermelon no alcohol “mojito” mocktail and get to bed early.
May you find your best resolve in this new day!

I decided to breakdown and get a pint of Whiskey for today. I drank a pint and a half pint yesterday. I haven't started yet. My husband just went to the store.
I really hope I can be AF tomorrow. I have an appointment on Thursday. I drank the day before my last appointment. And I was not feeling that great in the morning. I did make the appointment though. Although, it is so much nicer to go into the office feeling well.
Tomorrow is the 7th. That's my favorite number. So I'm really going to try to make tomorrow Day 1. And then keep on going. Moderation doesn't work for me ☹️

Started drinking daily again in June and gained a whopping 10lbs in 2 months! ugggg!!!!
So, I won't dwell on my failures... lol

I have already dropped 3lbs of water weight and I already feel better all around.
Alcohol is my nemesis. When I drink I over-eat!!

@xbowhunter Welcome back!! You have been missed . Good to see you here!
Not AF last night as planned, and I didn’t do myself any favors but stuck with 2 glasses of white wine.
Will try a new Recess non alcohol flavor tonight, watermelon “mojito.”
Happy hump day for all you working folks!

@SurferGirl1982 thinking of you and your goals today! Sending encouragement to give it your ALL - you CAN do this and wake tomorrow bright eyed for your doctor appointment as you desire.

@Michieb125 Thank you for your encouragement. I believe I will make it today. I actually feel pretty good. I'm looking forward to going to my appointment "bright eyed". And we figured we can catch lunch afterwards.5

@xbowhunter Welcome back! I looked back at my old calendars (I keep a couple of years past). And I have been drinking pretty steady since June of 2023. Except for this past April where I had 16 AF days. I put on 40 lbs in that time 😕 It's uncomfortable being this size.
As I was looking back, I counted my AF days from 2022 and 2023:
2022 - AF 124
2023 - AF 106
So far in 2024, I only have 17 AF days. I guess I have some catching up do. I do believe I will be AF today.
Good luck!6 -
Y'all are too much !! The purpose of the water soaked sponge is to prevent damage to others/relationships. No squishy contact allowed.
Decided to make a deal with self ...lose 20 pounds, then order enough wine to fill my wine cellar .
Of course I just remembered that I have a stashed bottle of Moldovan wine saved for when I binge watch the end programs of a reality show on my DVR. Now it's just sitting there...taunting me. Will be several weeks til the end of the series and the promised uncorking.

Tired. I realized I haven’t been taking my vitamins like I should. 🙁 I missed about 4 days, and I can feel it! I haven’t been going for my walks, litter is building up, and I didn’t weigh-in this morning. I’ll weigh tomorrow morning.
Rain is supposed to be bad tonight and tomorrow. Kids will be home for e-Learning due to potential flooding.6 -

I’m the same way? I really don’t reach for the other alcohol. Although I do like a good Old Fashioned.xbowhunter wrote: »I'm Back!

1.5 glasses last night- I started too early in the day. 5:00 Somewhere is a thing, and had I started later or at least with dinner I could have stuck to one.
Tonight was only 1 glass of wine, and then I stopped. Crawled into bed because I’m so tired! Today was the first kiss of autumn- tonight the temperature got down to the high 60’s, which is nice, but I’m noticing the leaves are thinking of turning yellow. Went into a store and all the pumpkin stuff is out already!4 -
I finally got one AF day. Woohoo 🎉
I'm posting this tonight because our state-run liquor store closes at 7 pm (5 pm on Sundays). That's the only place you can buy hard liquor here. I don't care much for beer or wine. Which is quite different from most of you that seem to like your wine 🍷 😀
