I'm posting this tonight because our state-run liquor store closes at 7 pm (5 pm on Sundays). That's the only place you can buy hard liquor here. I don't care much for beer or wine. Which is quite different from most of you that seem to like your wine 🍷 😀

CONGRATULATIONS!!! 🎉 Day 1 in the books!

August remains AF, and overall, 12 consecutive AF days. Close call yesterday but I didn't cave. The remnants of the Hurricane of Florida are here, and we expect two straight days of rain. Olympics: Use to be the biggest Olympics cynic but have found these games really terrific and watch a lot of it. Sad it is almost over. Go ladies USWNST.5

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I can feel your excitement and pride with this AF accomplishment.
Thinking of you as you go to your upcoming appointment. 👍👍👍6 -
Welcome all new folks and welcome back to our previous months participants.
Also thoughts to those in horrible weather areas. Debby thank goodness missed our Florida panhandle location.
Great job everyone!

CONGRATS @SurferGirl1982!! Amazing accomplishment!
We went to dinner last night, so I had a few glasses of wine I wonder if I'll ever just enjoy my life without a glass of wine in my hand.
Planned AF tonight, then a little getaway for the weekend with the other half which will involve drinking every day, but my goal is to keep it moderate.
Glad to see this thread so active this month, so far!
AF= 4
A = 38 -
Thanks everyone! I slept really well last night. But I was getting up every two hours or so to pee. I guess my body was trying to rid me of some water. This morning, I weighed 1.4 lbs less than yesterday!9
-
@NonnieDoiron Stay safe in that storm.
@MissMay good to hear Debby has bypassed your area.
@forestdweller1 you have proved you have stealth LA willpower this year and know what you want! And, congrats on the weight loss!
@SurferGirl1982 you thought you could and YOU DID! 👏👏👏
@xbowhunter I love your positive attitude! Make it count, yes!

Stayed true to my planned AF last night!
Yesterday, I ran around picking up umpteen things for our 20-person BBQ we are having a week from Saturday and a welcome pizza night on Friday. Half of the attendees are flying across country from the East and Mid-West. We do love to host gatherings on occasion but as you know, there is so much planning, shopping and preparation involved. Have the tables and decorations ready to go and menu planned and drinks purchased. Lots of lemonade and iced tea, sparkling waters, with some beer, wine, one bottle of a premixed margarita and a small pack of high noons (because I want to try). Nothing outrageous as in servings that I bought for the folks who I know will have some drinks on those two days - and I decided yesterday my choices are more than adequate.
There has been a bit of family drama between two sisters, and one sister and our mom over some ridiculous stuff. I asked each of them politely to leave that bag at the door and come have a good time. Unfortunately, I have a narcissistic sister who is okay with being a bully and is highly judgmental. Luckily it’s a large group this time so she will likely behave.
Oh and I lost 1.5 pounds in the past 3 weeks and holding…….Slow and steady wins the race……
Make it a great day!

@Michieb125 going to need directions to your BBQ. It sounds amazing. Think of the support from this group we would be if we all showed up. LOL🤣6

I have my sights set on increasing my last long AF streak by at least 1 day.
Last streak was 34 days. I want to get to 35. The intrigue of the numbers keeps me entertained and focused on the win.
Not that I plan to fall under and get run over by the drinking bus at day number 36.
I started a new part time job. I can't speak about it because it involved getting level 2 security clearance.
Just know that I have already had HUGE anxieties with it and some how the drink devils have kept away. I did notice that I have now begun grinding my teeth and clenching my jaw closed. 🙄🙄🙄

So I still haven't got a phone... long story but one take away is do not buy a phone plan from a kiosk in a big box store...it is NOT the real store and you will not just walk in there and replace your lost phone.
Literally my day has been like an episode of Seinfeld. "Just call this number" Me staring at him blankly with no phone while my teen is standing there with a perfectly working phone that I didn't even think about when we left. But, I also didn't grab any claws or wine while there. Go me.
We are traveling to see family this weekend and I hope to make it with no drinking days but did I mention we are seeing family?? So maybe I will just stick to one or 2......
I love reading all of ya'lls daylies very inspiring and entertaining. I dont feel so alone.

@SurferGirl1982 ....CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👋💥🎆🎉🎊 From Me Too🥳
And to all those who are losing weight..ain't it funny how the pounds just fall off without alcohol ?? Kind of a reward.
5 -
@forestdweller1 Thanks 🙂
Have you experienced that "the pounds just fall off without alcohol" also. It happened to me before. I wonder sometimes if others have experienced the same thing? I hope those pesky pounds fall off quickly this time too!1 -
@SurferGirl1982 ....No A the first 8 days this month and lost more than 2 1/2 pounds...of course it's the "Water Weight " thing, but I'll take it any way I can.
Try adding up the extra calories in each glass of wine [for me] and the even more calories for hard liquour.
It's " kitten " scarey !!6 -
@forestdweller1 I agree. Water weight is still weight. Losing water weight does make your body smaller...making your clothes fit looser. At least that's how it seems.
2 -
@SurferGirl1982 congrats on your AF day! So happy for you!
Yes, the pounds do melt off when we stop or cut way back on drinking. With the alcohol calories going away, so does the inevitable snacking- more cals not consumed. Then there is eventually better sleep, which lets our bodies heal and reduces our cortisol levels. And then we all probably have more energy to be active, another calorie burner. So this is one cycle that’s great to be in instead of the vicious one that alcohol keeps us in.

Morning my LA friends.

Let's make our bodies great again!!!

Last night I had two glasses of a really good Italian Rosé Prosecco and it was delicious. Wine night at work, and I should have been the one to pour the second glass, it would only have been a half glass. Good news is I didn’t reach for a third glass when I got home, so I’m happy about that.
Ok here is a bit of a rant- why is the less alcohol wine the same price as a bottle or regular wine??? I’m not talking the high end wine of course , but the everyday wine that a lot of us drink. It really annoys me. Plus, two glasses of the low alcohol wine still adds up to more than one glass or regular, putting me in the “purple” zone of my app. I’d get the same result with 1.5 or two glasses of regular wine, which is more enjoyable to me. So of course that begs the question—- why even bother with the less alcohol wine? I know it’s ultimately the better choice, and a good way to feel like I’m having a full second glass when I’m only getting the alcohol content of maybe 1.25 glasses, but I feel cheated somehow.
Rant over.5 -
Thanks @Womona I lost another 1.4 lbs since yesterday. I must have been really retaining water. Although, I do watch my diet pretty closely. I didn't log yesterday because we went out to lunch. And I find it hard to log restaurant food.
The alcohol cycle really is a bad one. Drinking daily, I didn't have much energy, balance or coordination. So it was hard to walk, exercise or do much of anything. I'm already starting to feel better.
I've never tasted less alcohol wine. If it tastes the same as the regular, then I'd probably drink the less alcohol. But if the less alcohol doesn't taste as good, I probably stick with the high octane 😁 Just have a few more AF days.

@Womona I forgot to mention your early Autumn temps sounds heavenly!
I feel you on weighing the cost and benefits of the low alcohol high prices. I too was on a lower alcohol content wine kick most of June and part of July but recently I started thinking about the prices on some - between 13.99 - 16.99 on two I sort of liked. But then, I always have more than my personal limit, so NOT really less calories. Wasn’t losing any weight either lol. This month I’m doing an experiment and incorporating other low cal beverages and choosing a decent wine for that same price and enjoying it more (with less glasses overall).
@SurferGirl1982 I am excited for you and your new choices. There is a lot of support here for you. I don’t know your age but I’m the other side of 60 and my personal opinion is that health and balance and mobility are keys to longevity!

Hey everyone... I haven't posted in a really long time, just lurking. I'm mostly a daily drinker, but I don't (usually) go overboard. You all have inspired me to start counting my A/AF days. I've been doing well on the eating, water, and steps... but not losing lbs. I am sure the A is the true culprit here. So, for the next week I am going AF, and see if I can get the #&@$!!! scale go in the right direction! I'll be checking in for accountability.
Day 1 8/9 - AF (claiming it early)9 -
@MissMay I would love to have you come to our BBQ! All the way to CA You are like family and I actually prefer a much smaller gathering where I serve no alcohol! Many of my friends don’t drink anymore, including my DS and DH. My strategy is to have one cooler with a few cans of each beverage with any amount of alcohol in it. And highlight the non-alcoholic beverages out in the open on a separate drink table. I sincerely wish you all the best with your new part-time job!
I have a couple of appointments today, will hit the gym and have some personal business to finish up.
I guess I would call it a me day. I need it!
Staying on course with my LA goal.

HUGE congratulations to everyone (you know who you are ) dropping the ounces and pounds.
I am jumping on the positive weight loss train with you all.
Losing weight is losing weight.
I don't care if it because I cut my toenails or because my hair is falling out.
If the scale is lower, I am a happy camper.
And will take it as a win.
YES to water weight loss!!!!8 -

@Michieb125 I'm also on the other side of 60. The 1982 probably throws people off. But that year was a significant year for me.
I agree with you on the health, balance and mobility aspect. I used to be very athletic and fit. But with years of drinking, I have become pretty unfit. I'm trying to correct that and become healthy and fit once again. This is just Day 3 for me. But I already feel that I have regained some of my balance and coordination. Pretty soon I plan to start exercising again.

Declaring tonight AF. Haven’t done any walking in a week, and my street is tattling on me (if I don’t start walking again the scale will tattle too). The litter!! OMG! So👏🏻 much👏🏻trash👏🏻‼️ It’s insane! I’m predicting at least 2 13-gallon trash bags tomorrow. Thank goodness the sun came back out today. I was starting to think it fell out of the sky.5 -
Great to see you back on here @looneycatblue ! @SurferGirl1982 mobility is soooo key as we get older, glad to hear yours is coming back.
Everyone, please get/stay active. My husband is in the health insurance industry, and can say this more succinctly, but he can tell you that the #1 worst thing in terms of dying is slips and falls. Slips and falls start a bad daisy chain of repeated injuries, no exercise, pain, poor healing. more slips and falls, poor health, etc. until you eventually die. Work on your strength, balance and mobility, people! He can tell you horror stories from being in the field.8 -
Two glasses of wine last night at dinner- I got a really big pour on the first one, and split a wine for my second, so I am counting it as two.
Tonight is dinner with friends after some golf, so my total will also probably be two.
I’m a little sad because I highly doubt I’ll be able to sail my little boat before we trade her in for the bigger one. Schedules and/or weather is just not allowing it. I would have liked to get one more in, but I honestly don’t see how. Today there is a small craft advisory in the wake of hurricane Debby, and we have to put the boat in the trailer today for a new buyer to do an out of water inspection. Popping it back in the water isn’t that big of a deal, but I just don’t see how it’s going to happen. I think I just have to admit that to myself, and just get her nice and shiny and just get her to the marina where she is being sold from. Sigh.
Also, my son just left for Japan with a friend for vacation. I’m so happy for him! But of course will miss having him around for the next 10 days. Mid 20’s and unattached is the perfect time to travel the world!6
