@SurferGirl1982 ....No A the first 8 days this month and lost more than 2 1/2 pounds...of course it's the "Water Weight " thing, but I'll take it any way I can.
Try adding up the extra calories in each glass of wine [for me] and the even more calories for hard liquour.
It's " kitten " scarey !!6 -
@SurferGirl1982 congrats on your AF day! So happy for you!
Yes, the pounds do melt off when we stop or cut way back on drinking. With the alcohol calories going away, so does the inevitable snacking- more cals not consumed. Then there is eventually better sleep, which lets our bodies heal and reduces our cortisol levels. And then we all probably have more energy to be active, another calorie burner. So this is one cycle that’s great to be in instead of the vicious one that alcohol keeps us in.

Morning my LA friends.
TGIF!
Let's make our bodies great again!!!

Last night I had two glasses of a really good Italian Rosé Prosecco and it was delicious. Wine night at work, and I should have been the one to pour the second glass, it would only have been a half glass. Good news is I didn’t reach for a third glass when I got home, so I’m happy about that.
Ok here is a bit of a rant- why is the less alcohol wine the same price as a bottle or regular wine??? I’m not talking the high end wine of course , but the everyday wine that a lot of us drink. It really annoys me. Plus, two glasses of the low alcohol wine still adds up to more than one glass or regular, putting me in the “purple” zone of my app. I’d get the same result with 1.5 or two glasses of regular wine, which is more enjoyable to me. So of course that begs the question—- why even bother with the less alcohol wine? I know it’s ultimately the better choice, and a good way to feel like I’m having a full second glass when I’m only getting the alcohol content of maybe 1.25 glasses, but I feel cheated somehow.
Rant over.5 -
@Womona I forgot to mention your early Autumn temps sounds heavenly!
I feel you on weighing the cost and benefits of the low alcohol high prices. I too was on a lower alcohol content wine kick most of June and part of July but recently I started thinking about the prices on some - between 13.99 - 16.99 on two I sort of liked. But then, I always have more than my personal limit, so NOT really less calories. Wasn’t losing any weight either lol. This month I’m doing an experiment and incorporating other low cal beverages and choosing a decent wine for that same price and enjoying it more (with less glasses overall).
@SurferGirl1982 I am excited for you and your new choices. There is a lot of support here for you. I don’t know your age but I’m the other side of 60 and my personal opinion is that health and balance and mobility are keys to longevity!

Hey everyone... I haven't posted in a really long time, just lurking. I'm mostly a daily drinker, but I don't (usually) go overboard. You all have inspired me to start counting my A/AF days. I've been doing well on the eating, water, and steps... but not losing lbs. I am sure the A is the true culprit here. So, for the next week I am going AF, and see if I can get the #&@$!!! scale go in the right direction! I'll be checking in for accountability.
Day 1 8/9 - AF (claiming it early)9 -
@MissMay I would love to have you come to our BBQ! All the way to CA
You are like family and I actually prefer a much smaller gathering where I serve no alcohol! Many of my friends don’t drink anymore, including my DS and DH. My strategy is to have one cooler with a few cans of each beverage with any amount of alcohol in it. And highlight the non-alcoholic beverages out in the open on a separate drink table. I sincerely wish you all the best with your new part-time job!
I have a couple of appointments today, will hit the gym and have some personal business to finish up.
I guess I would call it a me day. I need it!
Staying on course with my LA goal.

HUGE congratulations to everyone (you know who you are
) dropping the ounces and pounds.
I am jumping on the positive weight loss train with you all.
Losing weight is losing weight.
I don't care if it because I cut my toenails or because my hair is falling out.
If the scale is lower, I am a happy camper.
And will take it as a win.
YES to water weight loss!!!!8 -

Declaring tonight AF. Haven’t done any walking in a week, and my street is tattling on me (if I don’t start walking again the scale will tattle too). The litter!! OMG! So👏🏻 much👏🏻trash👏🏻‼️ It’s insane! I’m predicting at least 2 13-gallon trash bags tomorrow. Thank goodness the sun came back out today. I was starting to think it fell out of the sky.5 -
Great to see you back on here @looneycatblue ! @SurferGirl1982 mobility is soooo key as we get older, glad to hear yours is coming back.
Everyone, please get/stay active. My husband is in the health insurance industry, and can say this more succinctly, but he can tell you that the #1 worst thing in terms of dying is slips and falls. Slips and falls start a bad daisy chain of repeated injuries, no exercise, pain, poor healing. more slips and falls, poor health, etc. until you eventually die. Work on your strength, balance and mobility, people! He can tell you horror stories from being in the field.8 -
Two glasses of wine last night at dinner- I got a really big pour on the first one, and split a wine for my second, so I am counting it as two.
Tonight is dinner with friends after some golf, so my total will also probably be two.
I’m a little sad because I highly doubt I’ll be able to sail my little boat before we trade her in for the bigger one. Schedules and/or weather is just not allowing it. I would have liked to get one more in, but I honestly don’t see how. Today there is a small craft advisory in the wake of hurricane Debby, and we have to put the boat in the trailer today for a new buyer to do an out of water inspection. Popping it back in the water isn’t that big of a deal, but I just don’t see how it’s going to happen. I think I just have to admit that to myself, and just get her nice and shiny and just get her to the marina where she is being sold from. Sigh.
Also, my son just left for Japan with a friend for vacation. I’m so happy for him! But of course will miss having him around for the next 10 days. Mid 20’s and unattached is the perfect time to travel the world!6 -
Morning LA friends!
Did not stick to my AF plan yesterday but will tonight! I had a really great day by myself for a change and welcomed some red wine - a bit of an excuse but would rather enjoy a couple glasses while happy instead of looking for a coping mechanism. And claiming AF tonight as it will be my intermittent A day and I reserved a Yoga flow class for tomorrow morning. I exercised three times this week at the gym and walked twice so am very pleased with my activity.
Going to lunch and a children’s play with little GD and DD today!

Really really really wanted some wine last night. There's that saved bottle, don't be silly, just open it. Forgot to put any NA beer on ice, so that's not an option. I think there is a bottle of Chianti still in my wine rack down cellar...but Cat is asleep on the steps, so, no, don't want to disturb...While I was dithering the craving passed and the AF streak was saved. I've heard that the cravings last for about 6 minutes....not in my world....more like 60 minutes.
Nice updates on your success [mostly] stories everybodeeee [Grover Emoji].

Tried to read through posts quickly today and wanted to say hello to all of the newbies - I hope you get the support and lovin' you're looking for here. This is a great group of people!!
I also wanted to give a great big CONGRATULATIONS to @SurferGirl1982 for the 3 AF days already, and August is just getting started!
Hope I can spend a little more time reading and replying over the next two weeks while my Mom is with DS.8 -
I've been in Spain since Aug 1 for vacay- had a blast and didn't keep track of A because there's soooo much good wine in Spain but generally just had 1-2 each day.8

So nice to see all the newcomers to the group and the resurgence of some old friends! The support is tried and true, and it is so nice to know we’re not alone in this struggle.
Walked yesterday, and I was right 2 13-gallon bags of trash.🙄 So, not only walking, but weight training from lugging around the heavy bags for 45 minutes. Wanted to walk this morning, but I woke up with my mind on my knitting project.
I was frustrated because my seam looked ugly when I was trying to sew together the panels. Watched a video this morning, and I found the fix! I was thrilled, and proceeded to sew the panels together. This afghan will be my first completed knitting project when I’m done, and I’m thinking of selling it on Etsy. So, I want it to be done right.5 -

Declaring tonight AF. Ate too much over the past 2 days. Walking will be critical this week, and no A all week.
We have a trivia night on Saturday and drinks will be poured. So, I’m going to hold off until then, and not overdo it on Saturday.6 -
Welcome new comers! Glad you found this great group of people for support!
Family starts arriving on Wednesday so it’s been a LOT of preparation and anticipation over our big family gathering this week. We are pretty much ready and now I am feeling excited to see everyone.
AF tonight with a Recess zero proof Margarita, then will have my calm and an herbal tea drink.

Three drinks on Saturday- I should NOT have ordered that second glass of wine, after my gin and tonic because I felt it Sunday. Last night was 1.5 glasses of wine. Tonight I am going to crack open the lower alcohol wine and stick to one. Wish me luck! I am struggling to get my numbers down-let’s not even talk about AF days! Even though I’ve done it before, man that wine o’clock habit is very hard for me to break.8
-
@Womona I hear you, that wine o’clock is so powerful! Sounds like you will have less with your LA wine today!
AF last night, slept great and woke feeling good. Way better than the morning after 3 glasses of a red wine a few days ago. Just zapped me!
Note to self: Aim for 1-2 servings on those intermittent wine days for my own personal goals and mental health.
Counting another conservative AF day and
heading out for a walk on this beautiful morning.

Some major reasons for me to keep with this:
1. My eating has improved, no mindless snacking.
2. Sleep is so much better, no waking up to sweats and heart racing.
3. No regrets in the morning... remembering what shows I watched and didn't say anything stupid!
4. Weight is starting to go down, slowly, but I don't care, as long as it goes down.
5. No problem getting up for my early morning walks.
6. More energy overall.
Lots of benefits, and it has only been 3 days! I still have a strong urge to pour something while cooking dinner... I hope this goes away soon.10 -
I love my husband, I love my husband, I love my husband…
How many times do I say that before I believe he’s just being nice? He went grocery shopping again. My plan was to not even have it in the house, so I wouldn’t drink it this week! UGH!

@looneycatblue and @SurferGirl1982 way to go with the streaks! I've been having trouble getting more than 2-3 days in a row, I've basically been doing ever other day: A, AF, A, AF etc. I really want to get a streak going this week, so thank you both, and everyone else here with a good streak, for the inspiration.
I didn't realize alcohol can deplete vitamins/minerals - yet another reason for me to do a lot more cutting back.
@NonnieDoiron my DH always asks me if I want anything while he's out (and anything means wine). And once he asks I give in and say sure get me a bottle, even if I had been planning an AF night. He does it to be nice, even though he wants to see me cut way back.

Day 6 is a huge achievement all the same, I wish I could get to one day. Huge congrats!!
You’re right about vitamins, too. Particularly B vitamins, which are so important for so many functions in our bodies. Isn’t it crazy how we can know how bad the drinking is, but still continue to do it 😕
I haven’t had an af day In a long time and I’d really like today to be that day 🤞9 -
Good morning! So many new/returning names...love it and welcome (back)!
@SurferGirl1982 Look at you go! So happy for you! You're so right about the vitamins and minerals. I had started losing hair and it just wouldn't grow until I started reducing the alcohol in March. Now it's not falling out as much and is growing again.
We got back yesterday morning from a short little weekend cruise and went straight to work (ugh). I drank WAY too much this past weekend and intend to focus on the AF days for a few weeks. I didn't go to bed until 4 ish AM on Monday morning and had to be up by 7 to get home and then went to work. Needless to say, I crashed around 5:00 PM last night without drinking and didn't revive until 6:30 this morning
Looking forward to everyone's updates and encouragement. Have a great week!
