Declaring today AF. I lost 1.7 lbs since last weigh-in. YAY!6 -
@SurferGirl1982 you are the opposite of me- I have hard liquor in the house, as well as beer, but I rarely reach for it. But wine is a different story! You are doing so great meeting your goals. Even if you backslide, give yourself grace and dust yourself off.
I only had one glass last night! I’m very proud of myself. Plus I slept really well.
I’ve been out of sorts Tues-Thurs. Yesterday I took some Vitamin D, and it made all the difference. Today I feel like myself.
Big tennis tournament this weekend, so I’m glad I’m back to normal. Wish me luck! I know we’ll have a drink at lunch (my partner and I have Old Fashioneds as a tradition). If I stick to only one glass of wine tonight and tomorrow, I’ll consider that a huge win.8 -

Yes, I'm losing weight, might be just water weight, but I'll take it! Today will be day 7... I'll post me loss tomorrow
I’m with you! “just” water weight? I totally don’t care!!! I’ll take what I can get! Haha!5 -
Good morning group!
Today we are officially past the half way mark for August (by one day, lol)
I love hearing and reading everyones posts. Watching how others respond with helpful suggestions, stories of their own struggles or success and of course the stress breaker of humor ( @forestdweller1 ) thrown in to let us all know we are not alone here.

I agree, MissMay. I may not respond to everyone, but I read and appreciate EVERY comment!
No wine in the house = AF night for me last night. I got in bed around 8:00 because I'm so bored without sipping wine. I can only watch so much TikTok
Tonight is usually date night, but we're meeting friends Sunday night, so I'm going to skip tonight. He might still go alone, and that's fine. It keeps me from drinking.
Have a great day today and enjoy your weekend, everyone!

Had a glass of wine with dinner. Hubby had his pre-op appointment for the last stage of his cancer treatment and he is REALLY emotional about it. I decided he needed a large margarita. So, we went to dinner. He drank and cried all through dinner. He’s now asleep, and it’s only 7:30.9 -
Well guess it had to happen, I really slipped up last night, and for no good reason (is there ever a good reason to drink?)
Tally: 6 AF/ 1 A
@SurferGirl1982 , in 7 days I lost 3.4 lbs, might have been 4.2 or more if I hadn't gone off the rails last night!7 -
I had a really emotional afternoon, so I am coming here to read up on some of your posts, and I might also go to the 1st page to read some of the links. Without going into too much detail, my 2 sons and I are doing family counseling. The 1st session was 3 weeks ago, started off really rocky, but ended on a positive note. Today was the 2nd session, started off smooth, then ended badly, with 1 son walking out.
This has left in a very depressed mood, and that devil is telling me, this can be fixed with just a small drink. He's a liar and knows full well that this will lead me to several more, and I will end up feeling more miserable, not sleeping well, and awful tomorrow. That devil is tricky!!
I'm am happy that I can come here to talk about my feelings, and the struggles I am feeling tonight. Thank you for listening.11 -
Thank you @SurferGirl1982 !
I will not drink tonight.6 -
@looneycatblue my heart goes out to you during your counseling sessions. I was tricked once into "just accompanying" a relative to an appointment. As I sat waiting for them in the waiting area , they came out if their session to get me and take me in to be confronted by their therapist. AMBUSHED!
Take a big breath and yes it is only one day as @SurferGirl1982 said. You have been doing so well with your AF, I know you will be stacking up more LESS days.
Thank you @SurferGirl1982 for being there for @looneycatblue exactly when she needed support.

@NonnieDoiron what an emotional time for your husband(and you).
Nothing but positive wishes for you both right now. You sound like the rock he needs by his side.7 -
A bad trait I have is when I am taught a particular procedure in any work related job, I absolutely try to follow it.
In my new found work there are other employees that do not do that. Now granted they have been doing this for longer than I. But no where in the procedure learning did it ever give a time frame that you could stop following the rules.
As I make my way through the day I remind myself many things:
• I am only here to do my job, and do it well.
•I will not make under my breath comments hoping the irresponsible team member will "get the hint".
•I won't go running to my manager to squeak on the other slacker.
•I will try to be as kind as I can that person and not want to secretly wrap my hands around a section between their shoulders and head.
•I will not try to reward myself with alcohol that night after a stressful situation. That would only mask the pain and start a snowball drink fest.
Ok, good talk. I feel better.11 -
Yes it is a good morning... thanks to those of you that are here, you support is truly appreciated.

@NonnieDoiron Good luck to you and your husband. Take care of yourself!
@looneycatblue Good job abstaining!
@SurferGirl1982 You're doing great!
I've had 3 nights in a row AF. I almost lost the battle yesterday, but I held out again...lol. It was another grocery store trip that almost had me buying the BOGO wine, but I escaped with my dignity and had an AF nightI don't know why it's so freaking hard!
We're meeting friends for dinner tonight. My goal is AF. I don't know if that's realistic.

Ok, I think I need to check in with this group at around dinner time, or when I get home from work. I normally check in to this thread in the morning, and I’m motivated to cut back. By the time a long day has happened/I have something to celebrate, it all goes out the window. I should look for encouragement and inspiration when I’ at my weakest, not at my strongest, all pumped up on coffee!
So many here have some very impressive streaks going - keep up the great work!
@NonnieDoiron I'll keep you and your DH in my thoughts.

Had wine but only a couple glasses last night, and I’m probably having a couple tonight.
Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers for hubby (and me). Today, we had the grandbaby over, so PopPop could have cuddle time with her because after his procedure on Thursday, he can’t be less than 3 ft from her to avoid radiation exposure.
Back to reality tomorrow.9 -
@SurferGirl1982 You're doing great!
It really is about making new habits - if I don't get a craving early in the afternoon I'm usually good with just some herbal tea at night. Work in progress I guess7 -
My AF streak had a hiccup today. We went to listen to a jazz band at a nice place and my husband ordered us endless pineapple 🍍 mimosas.
At first (like 15 seconds 😜) I was annoyed. Then I thought, practice control, you can do this.
I s-l-o-w-l-y sipped the drink. When it got to half I asked the glass to be topped off with pineapple juice only.
When I was sipping through that, the server just auto filled with more champagne 😤. I looked over and hubbys glass had less than a sip in it.
I did the ole switch-a-roonie and then I had back an empty glass that I got refilled with straight pineapple juice only again.
It was a fun game for myself for 2 hours and neither husband nor server minded my doing this.
It would be safe to claim 1.5 serving of alcohol.
29 day streak ended, but I am back to starting it up again already.
August acountability:
1 A (1.5 drinks) 🙃
17 AF😁

Ah, the Famous Illusionist, @MissMay , renowned for her disappearing mimosas...been 53 years since I had one of those...👵
At least you had fun breaking your AF streak !!
My iffy overseas clothing purchase was finally released from Customs after 7 days. Good to know the package seemed to contain neither drugs nor Oriental antiquities. As expected, it was wise to order a "large" when I actually wear a "medium". I can shimmy into all except one [ good thing I already started losing weight]. Note to self...Read the reviews first ya' big dummy !!!!
Awesome people here keeping strong with all the challenges in your lives.

I’m back after our long family reunion weekend and am happy to report it was really nice. But most of all, everyone had a great time catching up with others who came from all over! BBQ foods were abundant and delicious, family was mostly on their best behavior and it was sweet to see smiles and laughter on faces from ages 5-88. I can’t say that my sisters did not get a little into it but I have no control over other people’s behavior, only my own. Everyone ignored it, including myself thankfully. Beer was provided by two other guys at the BBQ and most of the wine I bought wasn’t opened. For accountability I went into the 5 days of family visits knowing I would have some Prosecco and wine. Didn’t get crazy and stayed up late only one night! Obviously a sign of either age or maturity ☺️.
Slept all night yesterday and woke up this morning to much needed quiet in the house.
I definitely need to catch up on my AF days this week (and READY to) - that’s what this weeks all about!

Good afternoon All,
I enjoy reading all of your insight and experiences with this journey. Anytime I feel like today I need a drink, I think about this group, it helps remind me that this is doable I just have to stay focused! I went to see a friend over the weekend with an almost fully stocked bar as we all sat around talking the drinks were flowing but I decided not to partake choosing to drink water instead. It felt great not to indulge even though it was around me, I use to tell myself it's here so why not, not anymore!
One day at a time!We can all get through this!
