@pridesabtch @PackerFanInGB It's hard taking care of parents. Hubby did, first for his dad who had a stroke (before we married), then his mom, who lived with us our first 11 years of marriage, until she passed away two months before her 100th birthday. We were never close, and then she got dementia, so it was rough at times. Now I have elderly parents still in their home, but at least my 3 brothers & 2 SILs live nearby and most of them help out / check in frequently. My sister and I both live about 90 miles away (in opposite directions), but we call often (my sister way more than me) and I visit & stay over every couple of weeks. My parents gave up, grudgingly, driving out of town to appointments or dining, about 1-2 years ago. They're ok driving in their small town. In fact, I leave tomorrow to visit & drive my dad to his annual physical at the VA Clinic in the neighboring town on Wed. His appointment is 7:30 A.M. ACK! But we do what we have to do.

Carmella, my husband would LEAVE me if my mother had to live with us. He would send me to live with her and he’d stay here with our dog! He’s very patient and good to her, but the longer she lives here and the more he gets to know her, the more he pulls away from her. It sure can make things tense! But you’re right, we do what we have to do. I hope your ride to take your dad to his 0730 appointment went well! (Eeek…I’d have to go the night before…). 😬😊

Well the cold that wouldn’t go away was actual pneumonia & bronchitis with a bonus sinus infection. Explains a lot including the 18hrs of sleeping per day. Start on steroids, antibiotics, inhaler and cough suppressants tonight. Here is to a better week.

@pridesabtch - glad you’re getting the best treatment now. I’ve still got lingering COVID cough. But I’ll get through it.

Still a bit rough today, but the congestion is a bit better which means the headaches are better. YAY!

Going to see a house this evening that I really, really like. More than the other one, but it's further away from where we are. Not ideal for my outdoor cat.

    JFT Monday
    - Stay positive
    - Take meds
    - Look at house
    - Home
    - Shower
    - Bed

A dog is lying on the therapist's couch, and the therapist is saying "Well, did you ask her? There could have been a reason why she had to take a walk without you" :)

Only 2 goals for today: record all food and cook dinner in the crockpot. Insomnia only granted me about 4 hours of sleep last night, so I don’t think I’m going to have the energy to do much else

    JFT Monday
    - Stay positive
    - Take meds
    - Look at house
    - Home
    - Shower :(
    - Bed

Well, once again the house that looked so beautiful on line was lacking in person. Size and storage were okay, but the finishings were all very cheap looking. Maybe I expect too much for the money I want to spend, but it is what it is. If I'm going to drop almost $500k (cost of living here is actually very low so unlike some places this is a upper level price) I expect quartz or granite countertops and decent sized closets. Is that too much to ask? Of course, we don't need a huge home, I just want a nice home where we can have family for holidays. Ours is ok, but isn't very open and lacks storage. We have no good way to fix those things. Then there is the reality that my kids are gone and I could just make Sierra's room a "dressing room" and take her closet... Still doesn't open up my entertaining area.

Anyway, the meds seem to be helping, but mornings are still bad. I guess the meds wear off over night and I wake up icky. I also wake up groggy as if I haven't slept. I drove by the gas station and didn't get drinks like I do every morning, then I spent 7 minutes in the parking lot at work looking for my keys. I knew I had them because I drove to work, but I searched the vehicle over and didn't find them. They were in my pocket...

Going to try for a short day at work today. Swing by my mom's and see if she needs anything. Then head home for a nap and to put away laundry. Maybe laundry then nap...

    JFT Tuesday
    - Meeting at 7:30  I went to about half of it on-line
    - Work by 8:00  8:10 by the time I turned around and went to the gas station then stood in the parking lot looking for my keys.
    - Meetings
    - Work on BOL for a project
    - Figure out some cost things at work
    - Mom's
    - Laundry
    - Nap
    - Shower
    - Bed

@littleblackskirt LOL thanks for the dog joke. So true!

    Recap 8/19 M
    1) Walked dog 4.05 mi, part way with Kim & Bogey, saw RJ and other walkers, dogs & joggers all taking advantage of nice, cool morning  happy me & happy dog
    2) Leftovers for supper / log all food / net calories green ~ just barely but green / 80 oz. water ~ only 64
    3) Declutter & dust around TVs for service tomorrow ~ yay / usual M garbage chores / wash dishes / read / other? filled another gallon jug from rain barrel, updated budget s/s, lots of digital declutter, then felt crappy bc hubby wants me to declutter my physical junk in our bedroom (something he can actually see get done) so some days I can't win *sigh*

    JFT 8/20 T
    1) Figure out supper / log all food / net calories green / 80 oz. water
    2) Walk dog
    3) Stuff around house / call Mom / other?

Well, today seems to be another Monday. Hubby and I set an alarm to make sure we got up since new TV/internet provider was scheduled to install starting 8 - 10 a.m. He showed up 8:17 and we learned we had forgotten to purchase our own router (actually that was a hubby thing, but I wasn't on top of that, and I'm not going to piss on hubby even if I want to). The guy was really nice about it, went through some stuff, mostly with hubby (my technician) and rescheduled us for next week. While we were doing that, the pesticide service showed up at the front door unexpectedly. With merger of companies recently, they're not always notifying us like we're used to, so I had to unlock our side gate for the outside service. A bit later, our city garbage service drove right past our house & didn't empty our bin... turns out, the pest technician moved our bin (must've thought it was empty, although we had one bag in the bottom of the huge container) from curbside up to our garage door. Oops.

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    66 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

    2024 Goals:
    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26. Ppl
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
      * moussaka America's Test Kitchen tv show ~ very tasty, nice size portions & filling, though complicated with four distinct layers & many prep steps ~ nice to have an alternate eggplant recipe
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):
January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]

April: 4 days x2wks, 3x1, 2x1 [lots of lousy weather, plus 1 wk overnight trip]
May: 6 days x2wks, 3x3 [fit days in around 2 overnight trips & visit on Mother's Day]
    June: 6 days x1wk {including Bellin 10K}, 5x1, 2x2 {either very rainy or hot for 2 wks}
    July: 5 days x1wk {including Packers 5K}, 4x2, 3x1 {a lot of very hot/humid days}

      • In 2023 I logged 726.88 miles, or 1,169.8 km & completed yearly challenge 11.14.23 :star:
      • In 2022 I logged 500.4 miles, or 805km (knee issues).
      5) At least 7,500 steps per day
      • I can earn $10 every month on my Medicare Advantage Plan with 10+ days of 7,500 steps [noticed 7/12 that requirement reduced to 5,000 steps, but I'll continue with goal of 7,500]:

      • Registered for 10.5.24 Bellin Women's 5K
      7) Be considerate and loving to hubby and have fun together
      • Always a good idea
      8) Make efforts to keep in touch with parents, siblings and friends (most live in other towns or states)

    JFT Tuesday 20th August

    Log everything ✅
    Stay in the green ✅
No snacking 🤷‍♀️ did snack 150 cals, but still within cals
    PF exercises ✅
    General exercises ✅
    Walk ✅

I need to be a bit more cautious today, my back is playing up a bit and my feet are painful again. I was so pleased recently when the plantar faciitis seemed to be going away, I guess my walking more has inflamed it a bit. And I've maybe been a bit over enthusiastic with the volunteering. The weather is not encouraging me to go outside anyway.

    JFT Wednesday 21st

    Log everything
    Stay in the green
    No snacking
    PF exercises
    General exercises
    Walk?

I, like @cschmitz110515, have been thinking of how I successfully lose 38 pounds. I kept it off until covid.. then gradually have regained 20 of those pounds, and have been struggling to get back on track.
Then, I started thinking... how did I lose that weight? How did I keep it off for close to 4 years, and how did I regain it.
Well... I know the answers to all that. I lost the weight because I didn't "starve" and I didn't "restrict" what I could eat. I ate what I wanted to, but I ate smaller portions.. and I stopped eating when I was full. We would go out to eat... I would order whatever I wanted, but did not eat it all.
I lost the weight because I drank a lot of water. I regained the weight because, I have to admit, I do not like drinking water... so I stopped drinking water, other than maybe a few sips of water for each meal.
I lost the weight because everyday I logged what I eat, even the days when I was way over what I should eat. By writing it down everyday, it kept me from losing control... and helped me to get back on track quicker. I regained the weight.. because I have not been consistent on this. I would log my food carefully... then had a bad day, and didn't write it down.. hence, another bad day, and then another bad day. [/b]Till before I knew it, one, or even 2 weeks would be bad days.
I lost weight because I stayed accountable. I would get on here close to everyday. I regained the weight because I slowed way down in doing that. I would get busy.. it would get too late in the day, etc etc.
And then I wonder why I can not get the scale to move. Its because I no longer have those habits in place.. The habits I need to change. Little habits, but those little habits add up.
I lost weight because I was active. This is one thing I am proud of, and this is a habit I have changed. I consistently go to the gym at least 4x a week.. I walk a lot.
So .. ha.. I know I have done and said this so many times ... its a new start. But I am keeping this post in writing to remind myself... why I can be successful again. It will not happen overnite.. but with time, I can get back and lose those stubborn 20 pounds. It took me over 10 months to lose those 38 pounds. The reason it worked was because I followed what I should do. So ... time to get back to that!!
    So, JFT, Monday, August 12
    1. log all food
    2. concentrate on water.
    3. No snacking, except for maybe a small bowl of popcorn tonite. THen drink water
    4. get back on here tomorrow.. be accountable.
    5. Keep a positive attitude. Eating does not help with emotions. Eating should be for nourishment, not for blocking out emotions. Feel the emotions

Just catching up, and I saw this post from you Joan! YES, YES & YES! Being accountable and creating new healthy habits is what I need to focus on…ONE DAY AT ANTIME (or JUST FOR TODAY 😉). I do the same things as you…we are human, after all…. Glad to see you! 🥰😊❤️

Really need to focus on making better food choices tomorrow. My tummy is not pleased with me tonight. Too much sugar and carbs.Trying not to beat myself up too bad and just move forward.

In other news, I published Book #6 today! If I could be allowed a brief moment of self-promotion…it’s on Amazon if anyone wants to check it out. Or tell your fantasy-loving friends about it 😊

    Oh my gosh! CONGRATULATIONS! 👏🎉🎶🍸
I just went and read the free sample (1st chapter) and decided to start with the 1st book of the series so I can better understand the characters. So cool! I see you’ve written a few other books also. I love to read, so I’ll check them out too!

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is doing well….to those with colds, Covid, injuries…hugs.

@littleblackskirt That’s so cool you caught up with a cousin you hadn’t seen while volunteering! I chuckled when you clarified the 8 stone loss...I was actually wondering how you meant that. 😊

@HappyDonkey75 Glad to see you back! Hope the injections continue to help with your knee pain. I used to get injections in mine and it helped a lot with the arthritis. Nice job getting back at it!

@pridesabtch Hope you’re feeling better! Bummer about the house. For $500,000, I think the house should come with granite counters, big *kitten* closets and a golden toilet seat! Kidding aside, I understand the space thing. We have a huge family and when they come on holidays, we are literally on top of each other. But it’s just my husband and I the other 362 days out of the year, so I use one of the spare bedrooms for my dresser and closet. Of course, we are retired now so it wouldn’t make financial sense for us to even think about buying something else.

@cschmitz110515 Boy, you DID have a Tuesday full of Mondays, didn’t you?! 😂

    JFT Wednesday 21st

    Log everything ✅
Stay in the green ❌ almost 300 cals over!
No snacking ❌ 300 cals, see the pattern?
    PF exercises ✅
    General exercises ❌
    Walk? ❌

Got a little derailed, unexpected visitors for lunch, and kids first day back at school. Ate 2 biscuits without any thought, definitely comfort food! However, I did keep logging and not give up completely.

No walk, as the weather was disgusting. I don't mind having to wrap up in a coat and scarf to go out, but I really resent it in August! This summer has been very disappointing.

    JFT Thursday 22nd

    Log everythnig
    Stay in the green
    No snacking
    PF exercises
    General exercises
    Walk?
    Food shop

I'm off to empty the buckets of the rainwater, ready for the next storm which is arriving later today. Sigh, feels like things will never dry out!
