LESS Alcohol ~ AUGUST 2024 ~ One Day at A Time

Wow everyone is checking in and giving accountability and helping others get through rough patches and most of all being great role models for our LESS alcohol group.
Went back through my LESS alcohol calender and did some math.
50 standard drinks thus far for the year 2024
50 ÷ 8 (months) = 6.25 drinks/month
I will take that tally considering when I started on here(this thread) I was drinking that amount EVERY NIGHT, if not more some times.
What a difference being around like minded people with the same goals will do for you.
LET'S make August a great month to remember.

This isn't true, not sure what I said, but it certainly has been a while having a nice AF streak!4 -

@forestdweller1 Thanks! So many acronyms 🤔3

@looneycatblue I must have been thinking of someone else. You still have a nice streak going!3

I am having a glass of wine tonight, but I just wanted to share something that struck me earlier. I genuinely and thoroughly enjoyed the play yesterday WITHOUT alcohol. I can't tell you the last time I really enjoyed a social event without a drink.11

@chicbuc I used to love going to see local theater, even the high school plays were so much fun. I love opera too, but I haven’t been in a very, very long time.6 -
Another AF day 🙂

I'm checking in tonight because I spend too much time on the computer in the morning. I have chores to do and I want to start walking again. I won't be able to go too far at first. But I'll build up distance as I get stronger.
PS...I ordered just a basic pedometer from Amazon. It had really good reviews.
Goodnight All!7 -
Hello my LA friends!
Been away for a bit vacations and such! lol
Not really proud of my Aug record.
But Sep will be a new month, and I have set a goal for myself to increase the NA days.
AF - 5

The first part of Sep we will be on an all-inclusive Alaska cruise. I will indulge but as soon as we get back it will be time to sober up and flush the toxins once again...
cheers!

@xbowhunter We did an Alaskan cruise in June. It was the BEST cruise EVER!! Enjoy the views and have a blast!3

Hey everyone
I continue to lurk now an again LOL I am so happy to see new and old faces O(so to speak).
I continue to be mindful of my A days. Usually 1-2 days a week with moderation. example. 1 as in ONE 4oz pour of wine with dinner then done. Lunch out, (this is the biggie) 2 beers then done. Could leave with only 1 but it is more of a treat now. Out at social events with groups of people we know? AF. Just the appeal has lost it's shine???? weird but I will take it.
I never thought I would be at this point. Like @MissMay I look back and think..yep I'll take it.
Will pop in again in a few weeks. hugs to everyone8 -
Had some planned wine last night and enjoyed it while sitting in the backyard looking at the beautiful hills that surround us. Then more while finishing up a fairly bad show we have been watching bah!
Planning on 4-5 AF days this week so I can come very close to the goal I set for this month.
Love this next season that’s coming soon!

@xbowhunter good to see you!
I also did an Alaskan cruise last July and loved everything about it on and off shore! Cruises are certainly set up for indulging more than we do at home. 😉
@lmlmrn Great to hear from you! Please do continue to drop in now and then. Always loved hearing about your adventures as you traveled to your new residence.
Sounds like you are doing super well with LA and are over the hump that some of us still deal with.
Off to the gym now!
Have a good Monday all5 -

I'm feeling like the honeymoon stage is starting to wear off with going AF and seeing the lbs slipping away. My body seems to have adjusted to this new lifestyle and isn't dropping the lbs as it was in the early honeymoon...
But, I'm okay with this, because now I feel like I am getting more comfortable and not struggling as much going AF. I am not planning to give up A forever, but for now I am thoroughly enjoying the benefits, and making better habits.
I'm taking an old school friend, (we have known each other for nearly 60 years) , of mine out for her B'day dinner on Wednesday. She wants to go to Acapulco, Mexican restaurant, so we can have margaritas. I let her know that mine will be a virgin version... I wasn't sure how she would react, but she is totally okay with that.8 -

AF free tonight. I would say for the rest of the week, but when I say that my husband decides to buy me a bottle. So, I’ll just say tonight.😉7 -

One more day 🙂 I didn't start my AF days until August 7th. I'm aiming for no A days in September. I would love to have an A day from time to time. But I can't just drink one or two drinks. Unless I didn't start until right before bedtime 😕

I had my follow up to go over my bloodwork yesterday. All of my numbers are stable from 2016...some lower, like my cholesterol, and everything is good with no worries. So there's that.
I told my doctor I was cutting down on the drinking, and she asked if I wanted any medication to help with the cravings. I said no for now. Have any of you ever tried anything like that?
I'm letting the devil wine whisper to me too much again. I'm going to try to get out of August with no wine, and start fresh in September and see if I can build a longer streak. I'm choosing not to work out at night because I'd rather have a drink, and that's not making good choices for the moment or for long term.

@xbowhunter and @lmlmrn nice to see you again.
@looneycatblue I hope you have a great dinner tomorrow. It's so nice that your friend is supportive of your decision, no peer pressure to fight off.
@chicbuc I'm with you for a longer AF streak in September.
I really struggled yesterday. My DH was going to the store and asked if I wanted anything; I resisted the urge to say yes and told him no, tonight's going to be tea night. Then about an hour after that, the thought kept creeping into my head to go to the store myself, I didn't. Then later in the evening I thought about taking the frozen wine out of the freezer and thawing it out to drink (I freeze small amounts of leftover in ice cube trays then store in a container to use for cooking). I resisted that too and ended the night with a couple cups of camomile tea, WHEW.
July's tally was AF = 15, A = 16. I'm hoping to end August with AF at least one day over A. That means no more wine for the rest of August
Hope everyone has a healthy and successful day!!

@NonnieDoiron thanks for the tutorial on how to see notifications! Yea, I have an iPhone.
@lmlmrn so great to see you on here! You too @xbowhunter !
I am so proud of myself. For the last three nights, I was able to stick to one glass of wine- even at a Saturday night dinner out! I find it harder to resist that extra half glass at home, but I knuckled through the cravings. Oh, and they definitely last longer than six minutes, I can tell you!!! I am trying to rack up more “within limits” on my drinking app.7 -
I told my doctor I was cutting down on the drinking, and she asked if I wanted any medication to help with the cravings. I said no for now. Have any of you ever tried anything like that?
@chicbuc My doctor recently prescribed me Naltrexone 50mg tablets. I would definitely NOT recommend it!
When I picked it up from the pharmacy, the pharmacist basically told me that people didn't like it or had side effects. So he recommended that I start with only 1/2 a tablet. I had the prescription for days before I decided to try it. I took a half a tablet in the evening because I did some research and read that it may cause tiredness. Well, I was unbelievably tired until at least 9 pm the next day. I also had really bad diarrhea. And I felt just really weird.
I'm on my 21st day AF. When I quit, I was actually dependent and afraid of withdrawals. I had been through really bad withdrawals before in 2021. I even had hallucinations. Bigfoot was sitting next to me on a park bench and there were two old miners in my bed 🤔 I was in the ICU because I woke up around midnight and was vomiting blood. I had esophageal varices. I guess it was a blessing because I wouldn't have been able to do it on my own.
This time I cut back a little before I went AF. I really didn't have any problems. But the first day was a little uncomfortable. After 3 to 5 days, I began to feel better again. My coordination, balance and energy started improving. Yesterday I applied weed & feed to the front and back lawns with a drop spreader. I've also been going on shopping trips. I'm able to get in and out of the car easily and walk around the stores with no problem. While I was drinking heavily, my husband would do the shopping. And I would just stay home (most likely drinking). I couldn't even drive to the liquor store (too panicky). I feel much better now.
Good luck with everything. You did the right thing telling your doctor about your drinking. I used to not be so honest with my doctor. But I am now.
PS...I'm going to try to be AF in September. Maybe you can try going along for the ride. Thirty days really does make a difference.

@SparkSpringtime69 It sounds like you had a rough night last night. I've been there. But I think you had more resolve than I would have. You're doing good. Keep it up!4
-
@Womona I don't know whomever said that cravings last only six minutes. It doesn't work like that for me 😒4

My allergies have been acting up and I think the antihistamines in the red wine the other night got to me.
Logging two planned AF days on my intermittent monthly plan. Tonight I will have a delicious can of Recess NA Margarita over ice with squeezed lime.
I need to start thinking about September goals!
Current:
AF days - 11
A days - 16

No A for tonight. I didn’t walk today either. I use my “lunch hour” to walk around 9am (trying to beat the heat), but I had to log off from work an hour early to take my daughter to a ADHD follow up doctor appointment. So, I worked through it, so I could leave early.
It’s only Tuesday, and it’s already been a long week. My husband rides an emotional roller coaster like crazy, and I’m ready to get off the damn thing. I know some of it is the cancer stuff, and some of it is something he won’t talk to me about. He keeps telling me he’s got a lot to do, but then I see him piddle-farting around with stupid stuff. He is so freaking grumpy, and it’s starting to piss me off.
Anyway, I’m tired. I’m not drinking, but I’m not sleeping well either. Not sure what’s going on. I fall asleep fast but wake up early.
Oh well… I guess it is what it is.6 -

@Surfergirl1982 Thank you for the insight into the meds. I know it's weird, but I generally don't like to take prescribed meds if I don't need to anyway.
AF last night.
