I chose the restaurant because it doesn't have music. A rare thing in the UK. When we got there, it had started having it. Fortunately, I was so horrified and so upset that they turned it off for me.
I like the old fashioned feel of the place, with proper tablecloths and napkins. In a very old building with Moulin Rouge murals. I like to have out, things I don't cook at home. I had oysters, then scallops. Followed by Affogato. John had mussels and halibut. Ditto.
It was all excellent.
Unfortunately, I seem to be developing another UTI. Ugh. Still hoping it will disappear. I had a kidney test recently. All normal.

Our five days in Maine were lovely. N picked me up on Saturday night in Boston and we went directly to our hotel in the coastal town of Ogunquit. It is one of those towns that made a big impression on me when I visited for a day in fall about 15 years ago. Going back had always been a goal, and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful weather. Summer flowers were flourishing even as pumpkins and mums were being set out. The coastline is rocky and the water is cold, but the sunrises are glorious and we had some really nice slow walks by the water. Met a senior woman who lives there and swims in the ocean every day. She radiated good health and vitality. I'm seriously intrigued, and will research how to get started doing cold plunges. We ate fresh seafood everyday. Even had lobster incorporated into an omelet, a first for me. The time went quickly, as it always does whenever we get together. We are both back to our busy home lives, and stay in touch with daily texts and occasional calls. Our next date is tentatively set for early November, location TBA.
It has been unseasonably warm here. Hit 90 yesterday and will be back into high 80s tomorrow. Wish our pool hadn't closed. Not sure if I shared that the orthopedic doctor said that the arthritis in my hips is not bad at all. The pain and stiffness I'm have is a classic case of strained hip flexors. With strength exercises and rest, it should improve. Just hearing that news made everything feel better! She prescribed 12 exercises to be done daily, working up to the full number of reps recommended.
I worked my first hockey event of the new season the other night. I'm still not a fan of the sport, but I find the behind the scenes preparations and people so interesting. Basketball season is just around the corner...yay!
Okay, 'nuf jammering. I need to drink more water and do my journaling. Stay well, friends. We can do this.

I have always loved cooler water, I was always the first one in the pool at our resort. It would be ice cold, but the sun was warm, so I would come out and immediately go into the salt water based "conversational pool" like a half moon shaped hot tub. To the friends I knew I would give them a hug and they would yelp from my cold skin.😂😂
I'm thinking of getting a thermometer get a bag or two of ice and just put in the bathtub. As long as I go into it clean skinned, I am thinking I can get a weeks worth of ice dipping, until I buy more ice. Sure the ice will melt, but the cold water should stay cold, especially in a tub. I will let you know of this "kind of winging it" experiment.

Lanette--How scary for the doctor. Did they figure out what the guy was doing out there? I agree the world is scary anymore. My grandson who is a policeman here in town tells me it is not safe to be out at night and in some parts of the town during the day. I have lived here so long I guess I don't think about it most the time.

Barbara- That baby was given too much Benadryl and was knocked out. I just sternal rubbed her, and she woke up and frowned at me. The doctor walked in and felt better, too, so she responded. It would have been bad if her heart stopped and she was blue. She was just in a deep sleep. She does have seizures, so I had to assess her for the nurse. She is only 1and1/2 years old. She is so cute. I had been caring for her, but I had no patients since I was in charge.
Lisa- I love scrunchies, especially the Christmas ones. I like to match my scrubs with them. You are doing great with your weight loss.
Barbie, you had a lot going on but started our month with pearls of wisdom. Thank you, and I managed to get in this month without a problem. I will keep Jake in my prayers.
Rebecca- It is scary when your baby is sick, even if he is an adult. They will always be our baby. I am glad both of your boys are fine.
Allie- Were you able to pick up Selena before your cruise?

Beth, the weight could be water weight. Check your macros and see the sodium level you eat in a day. Drink your water, too. You will succeed in your goals for this month; I know it.

Yep, my eldest arrived at his carrier and is sailing back to Japan for a couple years, then middle son is busy working, being a dad and living their lives, youngest is in Japan as well (those two active duty sailors aren't near each other though). Its tough knowing I won't see them during the holidays but there is always FaceTime so it will be fun getting together doing that.💖🙏⚓👍🏼

Wednesday: chiropractor and massage therapist reseated rib so I feel well enough to try BB&B and line dancing again today.
Tuesday: Shadow figured out how to push out the gate, but didn’t go past the end of the drive onto the lane. Instead she waited for Joe and Mooch to return. Joe made the gate more secure.
Barbie, many thanks for your consistent leadership, and your encouraging example. Picking away seems to be working … bit by bit.

Sue, it was Ginny’s crockpot balsamic chicken recipe. Only through pg 2 but need to get ready for BB&B so, just in case she hasn’t posted, here it is:
Ginny’s crockpot balsamic chicken Breasts
Crock Pot Balsamic Chicken Breasts
-1 tablespoon extra virgin Olive oil
-4 cloves garlic minced
-4 full chicken breasts, sliced in half lengthwise
-1 teaspoon salt
-1 teaspoon pepper
-3 teaspoons minced onion
-2 teaspoons dried basil
-3/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1. Add oil and garlic to the bottom of crock pot or slow cooker
2. Mix dry ingredients together in small bowl
3. Sprinkle seasoning mixture over both sides of each piece chicken and lay breasts into crock pot
4. Pour balsamic vinegar over the breasts
5. Cover and cook for 3-3.5 hours on low or until chicken is no longer pink at its thickest part when sliced.
Decluttering challenge Day 25/30 Automobile25-As there is little to no clutter trash in my car, was going to clean out my car in prep for Friday’s trip. Joe offered to vacuum it and I accepted with thanks. You all know how much I loathe vacuuming. He did a great job, using his shop vac and fingers to pick out the spruce needles. What an anniversary gift, way better than uncomfortable meal out. While he did that, I did a little more garage decluttering. Trashed the old hose and torn rubber gloves, dried out garlic into the compost, paper and glass bottle into recycling, plastic bags and red webbing tidies and put away, sun tea jar and jugs into the donation box.Later, lighter, lovelies!

Right now I’m trying to process a text that I got from a nephew regarding my donation efforts and MS, and to top it off his sister laughs at the comment. I have no words. I am not going to reply, ESPECIALLY with what I would like to say which is not nice. I pray they don’t ever have anyone affected by the disease who they may not even know about.11 -

It is still almost 100 here- we are sweating(no AC) in tank top and capris.
Skipping class tonight and walking tomorrow. No school Friday so wouldn't be able to walk even if I wanted to.
I need to pick up two meds- think I will just let dh get it while he is at work there. Nebulizer meds and cough meds.

I’ve been getting ready for my long weekend in Oxford. Lots to sort out to take over for granddaughter’s new apartment. We get the overnight ferry to Liverpool late tomorrow evening. Then driving to Oxford. Probably arriving around lunchtime. Then it will be lifting and moving her things from her rental place and helping her to settle in.

It took four days to get rid of water weight from eating that high salty meal. Down in the 155's again this morning. Causes of fluid retention ...- Flying in an airplane: Changes in cabin pressure and sitting for an extended period may cause your body to hold onto water.
- Standing or sitting too long: Gravity keeps blood in your lower extremities. But getting up and moving around often helps keep blood circulating. If you have a sedentary job, try scheduling time to get up and walk around.
- Consuming too much sodium: You may get too much sodium by using a lot of table salt or ingesting processed foods and soft drinks.
- Certain medications: Medications that cause water retention as a side effect can include:
- chemotherapy treatments
- OTC pain relievers
- blood pressure medications
- medications for Parkinson’s disease
- certain hormonal birth control pills
- steroids - Heart failure: Heart failure, which occurs when the heart can’t pump blood effectively, can cause the body to retain water.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT): DVT, which is a clot in a vein, can cause leg swelling. This is considered a medical emergency.
- Pregnancy: The shift in weight during pregnancy can cause the legs to retain water if you are unable to move around regularly.
- Kidney disease: Advanced chronic kidney disease can cause water retention in the arms and legs. This happens when the kidneys cannot filter excess fluids from the body, leading to buildup.
- Cirrhosis of the liver: When someone has cirrhosis, increased pressure in the liver and reduced production of proteins by the liver can lead to water retention.
- Menstrual changes and fluctuating hormones: The menstrual cycle may cause water retention.
- Gravity – standing up for long periods of time allows fluid to ‘pool’ in the tissues of the lower leg.
- Hot weather – the body tends to be less efficient at removing fluid from tissues during the summer months.
- Burns – including sunburn. The skin retains fluid and swells in response to burn injuries.
- Dietary deficiency – such as insufficient protein or vitamin B1 (thiamine) in the diet.
- Medications – certain drugs, including high blood pressure medication (antihypertensives), corticosteroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are known to cause fluid retention.
- Chronic venous insufficiency – weakened valves in the veins of the legs fail to efficiently return blood to the heart. The pooling of blood can result in varicose veins.
- Plus a list of medical conditions
- Food choices. High sodium and high carb diets can lead to water retention. Potassium and magnesium deficiencies can also cause extra water weight.
- Physical inactivity. Sitting or standing for a long time can stop fluids from circulating around the body properly. This causes water to build up around the body tissue, leading to swelling in the extremities.
- Heart or kidney disease. These can disrupt the normal flow of blood around the body. This disruption can cause a buildup of fluids, resulting in swelling and extra water weight.
- Medications. Water retention is a side effect of many medications. These include anti-inflammatories and some oral contraceptives. A person should consult their doctor if any medication causes worrying side effects.
And from my experience ...
- excessive exercise (much more than usual)
- too little sodium (too much water, hyponatremia)
- surgery
- injuries
- long car travel
From my experience, usually after about 3 days, I start peeing a lot and things return to normal.
I have gained weight from our trip to Canada. Some of that was likely food related ... Canadian restaurants don't believe in small or even relatively normal portions!! But some of the weight gain is likely related to:
- the flight
- sitting for long periods of time
- my chronic venous insufficiency
- my arthritis
- the food contents
So I'll see how my weight goes over the next few days.
When I was at my peak with cycling, I used to tell people that if they wanted to socialise with me, they had to hop on a bicycle and ride with me! A few people did.
When we visited my aunt and uncle this time and last time, we went for a walk in a nearby wetlands - a gorgeous place - and then we had dinner.
Over the years, I've encountered a few other people who have done the same sort of thing when I've visited ... suggested a walk around the block then dinner or a walk to and from the restaurant. I think it's a great idea!

Friend taught me count to ten when think you are finished to make sure you are empty...Knock on wood I have not had one in over 30 years. I had them after the birth of our first son so I know they are not pleasant.
Regarding UTIs and not emptying ... I have a prolapsed bladder so I often don't completely empty. But one of the things that helps is that when I think I've finished going, I sit straight upright for a little bit. Usually that allows me to go a little bit more. I also try not to hold it too long. If I go, and then 20 minutes later feel like going again ... I go because chances are the bit that was caught in the folded over part of my bladder has moved.

Hi, my beautiful friends. Thank you for the praise, but remember that it took years to get there. Losing has been a battle. It seems like I did better after my daughter left. I stopped stress eating. My DH lost weight faster than I did. I have 75 more pounds to go. It is nice fitting smaller sizes. I will take it 10 pounds at a time, so it won't seem so daunting.
Machka, I loved that sunset picture in Canada. You are a great photographer. I want to start riding my bike again. I have been looking into bikes but will wait until I move to Chicago. I have a friend who runs bike events and manages a bike shop. I am so excited to do that. I may pull my old bike from the shed and ride here. The Natchez Trace has a beautiful scenic bike trail.
Terri that is a lot of travel, but spending time with your granddaughter is worth it. I know you all will work hard, but you will also make memories. Have fun, enjoy, and please be safe.

Terri - Good wishes go with you on your journey to Oxford.
I know that I couldn't do all that any more, even before my hips started playing up. Please pace yourself, take plenty of breaks, drink water and eat something for fuel, and stop when you've had enough. I know too many people who have injured themselves in those situations, because it's too easy just to go the extra mile. It only takes one slip, one strain. Could you be the 'sorter' at the destination? I would be knackered after an hour or so and fit for nothing.
I'm hoping my UTI is retreating, but I will know by this afternoon, as I took a sachet last night. I have a home test kit, which I will use if I have to. It's not been long at all since the last one. My troublesome arm could be repetitive strain injury, from the way I type on my tablet. I do have some lymphodema in that arm, which may have returned with weight gain.
Yesterday evening I did not feel brilliant, with all my aches and pains, so we left the champagne in the fridge and I just had fizzy water to celebrate. I did have my favourite nibbles. I am a lucky woman, especially when my thoughts go out to my brother and my ex. My brother may be going home today, in throat pain, but insulin stabilised. My ex is still in hospital after three weeks, with severe BP issues and loads of other things, including kidneys. In my amateur doctor opinion, it is not looking good. My DSIL , who rang me yesterday, asked me if I still care about him. The answer is , I love him, very much. I didn’t exactly say that to her. She gave me a nice M&S voucher. She is coming down in a couple of weeks! Hooray!

Morning, my chicks, from 2 a.m. in Arkansas...
Some might remember how relieved I was about the badly crowned tooth the dentist told me was doing fine? The one he said to call him about if I started having problems? Yeah...I'll be calling when they open. Woke me up a half dozen times... one of the few times I've really been able to FEEL the very specific fact that some teeth grow nerves that are laid along the floor of the sinuses. Feels like someone punched me in the face on the left side of my nose. Annoying.
Not devastating, I might add, it's not like I haven't been up in the early mornings every morning of late. Just... annoying. Took a pain pill, some Tylenol (no NSAIDS for me) and rubbed Orajel all over the area, which makes my tea taste like ca-ca, but the tooth is somewhat calmer. Until I clench my teeth without meaning to. Will just try to ignore it for the time being.
What can't be cured (yet) must be endured (for now). --Burton, updated to the 21st century!
We cannot catch a break lately on the unexpected outlays. We're doing fine, don't get me wrong, but there is no money going into savings... it's all going out. Ah well, this too will pass.
Egg is staring me down as I'm typing this in the craft room, because she doesn't have room to sit in my lap while I'm typing at the table. She's purring at me very loudly, though. She begged to go outside, but I've been hearing coyotes in the area, so won't let her out in the very wee hours of the morning. One very spoiled kitty is just not getting what she wants this morning.

I think I'll try to get a few things done, get some of the project boxes cleared. Might as well! Here are a few pics - Work I finished yesterday before I went to get a few things for pizza for dinner (focaccia bread recipe rises in the fridge, and then I shape into four crusts--let them rise one more time and prebake them. Two go in the freezer, and then we put toppings on the other two and finish baking); Corey making pizza for him (mine is much simpler and not quite so tall... 😂🥰); and Egg trying to make me pet her.Small Christmas gift bags - my fingers are there for scale. Please note, small ones take even longer to make than large ones, quite a bit more fiddly:

Lisa ~ Cory's Pizza...WOW! That's a lot of toppings. Ever since I got the knee replacement 2 mos. ago I have been wanting to go to bed at 7 & getting up at 3:30/4:00 AM. Makes for a long day. I know that a lot of you take naps during the day, but, I cannot for the life of me nap. If I lay down my mind thinks of a million things and I jump up after a few minutes.
Terri ~ You are a great grandma for helping your grand move but don't overdo it.
Barbara ~ Again, I commend you for continuing to declutter.
My housecleaning has slowed down as I have been spending a lot of time sorting through my vintage jewelry bags. Will put in a spoiler. I am researching prices and they are all over the place. So, time will tell if I decide to sell or just restore.
