Hi! I’m Jill and I absolutely ❤️ this group of like-minded friends. If you’re here, then you’re our friend!

    Welcome to October!
Fall is my favorite season. I live in Michigan, and I love the chilly mornings and evenings.☕️ I love the sunny days and love watching the trees change colors 🌳 🍃🍂🍁… and the smell of fall. I don’t even mind the rainy days.

My goals this October are to:
🍃Log daily- consistently and happily. This is the key to success.
    🍃Get outside and 🚶‍♀️or 💃🏻 inside
    🍃Enjoy the season
🍃15 minutes of intentional exercise each day

It's time to get everything in sync this month. I'm no longer going through the motions. When I log...I lose weight. It takes time to build up consistency and momentum, but when it works, it's beautiful! Let’s go!

    October 1: 215.4

Hi I'm Darlene. I am 64, married, (Greg - 37 years), one adult daughter (Allyson), one pup - Monty the Goldendoodle. I retired in 2020. My Story if you want to read:
I started my weight loss journey in January 2023. My husband went back to work on a temporary assignment and for the first time ever, I was alone during the day. I thought it was the perfect time for me to take care of me for a change. There is a rails to trails park literally in my backyard and for years I said I was going to walk the whole thing. I announced to the world that I was going to do it, and that made it so I couldn't back out. I started the journey on January 12, 2023 and did a little bit at a time; I completed the 62 mile in and out adventure on February 22, 2023 and lost 16 pounds in the process.

I found MFP and started logging my food, this kept me going for a little bit, but as usual was getting bored of it. I've lost weight many times before, and then I get bored, quit and gain it all back. I had to find something to keep me motivated to keep going. That's when I found the challenges page on MFP. This group was the first I found, and as I mentioned above holds a special place in my heart. Such a supportive group and in a non-judgemental way. I come back every month, for the support that this group provides. I also tried quite a few other challenges and especially like a couple team based ones (the Hogwarts and Biggest Loser). I found that I will do more for the "team" than I will do for myself; and if someone gives me a task to do, I'll do it. The more homework the better. These two groups have given me the accountability I need.

I am happy to say that with the help of these groups, I am just about at my goal weight and will call it accomplished when I get to 140 pounds. The last five pounds have been tough, and the last pound even tougher. It isn’t the five pounds under the normal BMI, or the 100 pounds that I was thinking about, but by far surpasses what I thought at the beginning of my journey. I must admit, I am really nervous about making this decision. I know how to lose weight – but how to switch to maintaining is a mystery.

I am down almost 88 pounds. I have learned that persistance and not perfection is the key to my success. I won't change much - other than weighing in only two times a week instead of every day, and a weekly calorie goal instead of a daily one. If a little more comes off in the process that's great - but otherwise just stay 140 pounds or lighter for the rest of my life! Slow and steady wins the race!

I'm Charlene, 59 years old, 5'8", married 40 years to Allen, 6 adult children, 9 grandchildren. I have celiac disease so I eat gluten free; I'm intolerant to lactose, soy, watermelon, and cruciferous vegetables, and I have MTHFR reactions so I can't eat items fortified with folic acid; all these components make meals challenging! I usually do meal prepping at the beginning of every week. I live in Central Illinois USA, and I work part-time as a home caregiver for the elderly so they can live in their own homes and not have to live in a nursing home.

🧮= I stayed under my calorie limit
    💊= I took my supplements

    🚶= Steps (number)
    🏋️= Exercise (stretch/strength/cardio)
📚= I read for at least 30 minutes

    September ending weight: 181.8
    September goal weight: 180.0
    October goal weight: 178.0
    Maintenance goal weight: 160.0

    Oct 2: 180.9 🥛✍️🧂🧮🚶(6827)

And there's the whoosh! 💧 Hello, 180🎉! I hope I'm just seeing you in passing on my way to the 170's.😂 20 pounds to goal!

Taco protein bar experiment #1 was meh. I should've doubled or tripled the seasonings, and I shouldn't have added the extra oats and polenta to firm up the mixture; they came out tasting like a very mild tamale but the texture was slightly too dry. I'll eat them, but I'll try again. Next time I'll dial back on the oats and polenta, up the spice and just realize this mix will be looser/wetter than the pizza one. I'd also like to try crushed corn tortilla chips in the recipe instead of polenta, but I need to compare the nutritional value to using the polenta; if the crushed chips will drive up the calories or carbs too much, then the polenta is fine, it gives a faint corn hint. My goal is for these to taste somewhat similar to a hard shell taco without the lettuce.

@deepwoodslady I ❤️ your goal of being back in the 180's by the end of October!

@ilive2walk SO EXCITED for you for this new phase of life; and... agreed that maintenance is just as hard as losing. I found that to be true as well; it was too easy to let my guard down once I was well under my goal, and slack off on tracking. And that let the pounds creep back up, slowly over time. This time, I won't stop tracking and weighing every day.

    @texasfarmer, @KSDurand welcome!

@FaZizzle good luck with your injections and your plan, I hope they work well for bringing your A1c back to normal. Great job dragging your dead butt to the gym yesterday morning! 👍

@UCGRocks oh no about the cold and pulled muscle! I hope you're feeling a little bit better today!

@ozdeelite oh my goodness! Yay for a little increase in kidney function, and for the fluid loss, I hope that drain works amazingly well and gets all that excess fluid out of your abdominal cavity.❤️🤞

    Goals:
    >> Monthly weight loss: 5 pounds (progress: -0.4 lbs)
    >> Daily calories: 1200-1600
    >> Daily net carbs: <80
    >> Daily water: 100+ oz
    >> Weekly exercise: 3x dance, 2x weights, 5x walking 1+ miles

    Oct. 1 - 239.2 | Weight training + walking | 1547 calories, 78 net carbs | 559 deficit + 531 burned
    Oct. 2 - 238.8 | Walking + Zumba

Diet: I took my 4th shot at 2.5 this morning, and I had a heavy protein breakfast with a side of LiquidIV for electrolytes. Thus far no side effects! Tonight for dinner is my favorite: parmesan chicken burger over spinach topped with a sunny side up egg. No additional dressing needed!

Exercise: I get to work early to walk, and this morning I changed my path. Did I walk more than I expected? Yes. Did I start work a little later than expected? Also yes. Thankfully my boss is understanding! I skipped Zumba on Monday, so I'm picking up a Hip Hop Zumba class to try tonight.

Hi everyone. I won’t be able to do much the next couple of months. I’ve got a catheter until November. Seeing a urologist November 4th but need to keep catheter in until then. I have a urethral stricture which is causes me to retain urine so it needs to be dilated. Until then I’m stuck with a urine bag.

My kidney function was at 42% yesterday so still not great but slightly improved. I need to have frequent blood tests and will probably need a renal specialist.

This truly sucks. It’s so hard to function with a bloody tube sticking out of my groin and a urine
bag. I’m glad it’s not that serious but I can’t work and don’t see how I can exercise either.

Yep salt. Crazy! But yet it's kinda good to know that it's just water weight, not fat weight. Yanno?

Yesterday I went down the rabbit hole in research about dysphasia. That is a medical condition, where someone is unable to eat solid foods because their swallowing signals in the brain have been disrupted (typically from a stroke or advanced age). They tend to cough, choke, and the food goes down the wrong tube and goes into their lungs. Very bad. So all their food has to be pureed. Imagine eating nothing but baby food, as a grown adult who loves to go out to restaurants, after you've had a stroke!

However, there is a wonderful way to help restore some of the dignity by the use of silicone molds shaped into traditional food shapes, like corn on the cob, a slice of meatloaf, or a pork chop or broccoli. Essentially, the pureed food is thickened and then put into the mold, frozen in shape, and then gently reheated. Amazing! This is so helpful for people who've lost their ability to swallow anything textured, dry, crunchy, or even drink a thin liquid like juice, coffee, tea or water.

As a home caregiver, pureed food is an area that we typically don't get training in; it's generally a specialization for speech therapists. I think that is a hole in our training, because caregivers are preparing the food that clients with dysphagia have to eat. Basically everything goes in the blender. Want a hamburger? Yep that can now be grilled with a Foreman, put into a blender, molded, frozen, and reheated. They can even do bread or bun shapes! This is an area of caregiving that is fascinating to me as someone who loves to cook; and I plan to do a deep dive into it so that I can be prepared for clients with this disability.

I'll come back for comments later but I always read everyone's posts and my heart roots for you all. ❤️❤️❤️

Hello! I'm Jenny, 59 years old & after maintaining my goal window for about 6 months I've let vacation, travel & stress drag me backward. I am determined to make a clean start this month and get back to where my body feels best, which means losing about 10 pounds from where I am now. There's no travel or events this month...which means NO EXCUSES!

October 1 - 182.4 - Did a 30 minute Burpee Girl cardio/weights video plus 15 min yoga stretch. I've started logging again and getting back to IF. The binge monster has been banished from the house, and the only thing that will keep it away is consistency!! Today is Day 2 - I feel better than yesterday (after a ridiculous week of bingeing), but I know from experience by Day 3 I'll actually be feeling great.

October 2 - DNW - horribly long work day, never left my computer :(

October 3- 180.0 - Had to go to the PO for my daughter so decided to walk, and letting that 40 minute walk be my workout today. Work is killing me but so far I've been staying strong!

    Good morning everyone!

It's beautiful weather here in Alabama. Yesterday, I took a few minutes from work and went for a walk. I plan on repeating it today to get some steps in. I've had to mow the big yard at home until dark the past two nights, so hopefully, I will find a little time for additional walking before dark tonight.

Speaking of dark, does anyone else dislike the time change? It's going to be dark at 5 p.m. here in Alabama, so there's no availability to do anything outside during the week at all. I'm trying to find something positive about it, so if anyone knows, please share!

    Goals:
    >> Monthly weight loss: 5 pounds (progress: -1.2 lbs)
    >> Daily calories: 1200-1600
    >> Daily net carbs: <80
    >> Daily water: 100+ oz
    >> Weekly exercise: 3x dance, 2x weights, 5x walking 1+ miles

    Oct. 1 - 239.2 | Weight training + walking | 1547 calories, 78 net carbs | 559 deficit + 531 burned
    Oct. 2 - 238.8 | Walking + Zumba | 1273 calories, 56 net carbs | 828 deficit + 230 burned
    Oct. 3 - 238.0 | Aqua Zumba + Walking |

Diet: It's been a day of being flexible, that's for sure. My yogurt exploded on my way to work. My lunch didn't have enough protein (eggs, hummus, cucumber), so I had to cook up some of the chicken I was marinading for dinner. Oy. I haven't been over-eating, but everything I planned is now thrown out the window.

Exercise: I was going to do a hip hop Zumba class yesterday, but it ended being cancelled (AFTER I arrived). I slept poorly last night, and I ended up skipping both an early morning aqua class and a morning walk. Of course it's getting hot again, so no mid-day walk for me (thanks, heat stroke). I'm going shoe shopping with my kiddo this evening, but I'm still going to try to walk around/after dusk.

Hi Everyone. I’m already fed up having a catheter- nearly ripped it out last night with my foot and geez it hurt.

Don’t think I can really exercise either which is so annoying. But with all the bloating I don’t have an appetite anymore so I might actually lose significant weight.

Tried a kidney friendly recipe. Despite the ordeal this has been so far it is making me change my diet so that’s a good thing.

Photo - Made sweet potato and eggplant curry .

10/04-DNW-(Trend Weight DNW)- It’s no-weigh Friday for me. I was up extra early as the bus for DGS comes even earlier than last year. Missed the bus at the beginning of the year so I am trying to readjust schedule. Boy is it ever tough trying to get long sleeves and jackets on him with that cast on his arm! This cooler weather is calling for warmer clothing for sure. Last Friday my DD brought in ice cream since it was payday. I hope she will keep her money in her pocket this week. It’s not likely though. Trying to stay strong! Have a good weekend everyone!
