Lisa - your home is just beautiful and that hard work is really paying off. The landscaping is gorgeous. Sounds like got the painful tooth taken care of, sometimes a little piece of food stuck between teeth or at the gumline is all it takes to set things off but once remedied, are OK.
Ginny - great hearing from you, thanks for catching us up. Sounds like work is keeping you very busy on top of the cold. Do you have a firm retirement date?
Missing you Kylia- Hope you and your family are doing well. Having such an ill mechanic would drive me batty. Hope he's recovered and back on the job and getting things caught up at the shop.
Barbara - how exciting that another redwood is sprouting up. Love it when nature gives us little surprises like that. Speaking of, my volunteer Aronia berry bush still has berries hanging on. I put some I picked a week ago on a cookie sheet with a paper towel and they are slowly getting wrinkly and dehydrating right here in my kitchen. Like raisins, only they don't need sunshine but that would probably speed things up. I read they were often added to pemmican the Native Americans made - these folks didn't have ovens or food dehydrators so having berries that dried in the open air without rotting was a plus.
Mo - wow, 2 moms to worry about. So sad to hear about the memory care place your mom is in closing. Did they say why? That's going to be tough for the residents living there and their families who'll need to find other placement.
Annie - again, sending huge hugs and much admiration for your current job of caring for your dad. Very proud of you.
Terri - glad the ferry ride was calm. Have a good time in Oxford.
Raining here. I'm getting tremendous pleasure out of seeing the rain beading up on my newly stained deck! It doesn't take much to thrill me these days, lol.
Make it a super day.

My mom is back at her apartment. The problem was medications she was given by different doctors that combined, was not a good thing! A reminder to keep track of all medications different doctors give you and make sure they don’t conflict. I have a note on my phone with all my meds, surgeries, diagnosis, and allergies on it. I give it to every new doctor I go to. They love it as it is comprehensive and gives them information that helps for any new treatments to be given. Also, look up all your meds and supplements online to see if there are any complications or things you should look for. Here is one site that can help you with it:
https://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html I have used it in the past and helped me to decide which pills to split up between night and morning.
My dinner yesterday was a chili dog at Sonic. I know, not good (DH wanted to eat there), but tasted good as I hadn’t had one in over a year. Splurge once in a while is ok. I’m trying something new with DH. I took out the cash that was budgeted for groceries for the month and gave it to DH. Told him he has to make it last all month. He already spent $300 of the $700 that was budgeted. We shall see. I don’t think it will work because this has to cover his alcohol too.

Morning all
Well I woke up with a sinus headache Im hoping it calms down a bit as im supposed to get together with friends tonight..but sheesh my face hurts,my ears hurt,my eyes hurt lol
I was trying to figure out my flight home..and was going to try and fly Delta home they wanted 800.00 one way.honestly thats highway robbery..
I have a flight on southwest that leaves at 9:55 but that is cutting it super close..but im going to wing it..I'll do self assist and take the luggage myself and get a cab and get off as soon as I can.
Hope everyone has a super duper weekend.7 -
Last night I slept off and on, here at my cousins place, as they are off to Las Vegas. Ben, their dog seems a wee bit lost, but he's eating, pooping, sleeping and can take the morning pills from me, so all is well. He's a very stubborn senior dog though.
I noticed I could not keep the house totally dark last night. Also being alone kind of freaks me out! I am doing a lot of talking to myself, and to Ben.

Poor John is suffering with toothache on his plate support tooth. The gum is swollen. His plate is currently being mended, and he has to go off to collect it right now. No guarantee it will hold, but ....
It may be the two jabs yesterday that have set the gum off, but he did not do what I suggested - dash off to the dentist and demand to be seen as an emergency. No, of course not. So now it's the weekend.
I suggested he get a taxi back from the plate mender, but he won't, I know, despite the cabs sitting there outside, by the station. Life long habit of self denial.
I had a nice meal with G. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. I had Lardo, which you can see in the picture, which is basically fat. It was delicious! On a heritage tomato salad. Then I had pork in spices, with borlotti beans and charred corn. Very good. For dessert I had my usual Affogato. It was the cheap lunch deal, and I didn't have any alcohol, because of the UTI.
I wore my new jeans and my new Chanel jacket. G was very impressed by the jacket, and thought she might get one.
I asked twice for the music to be turned down, and they did, but the service was a little grumpy. Not as welcoming as I like.
Got the bus both ways.
I'm pleased with myself for braving a new place and persisting with the music, but will mention the service in my review. Wednesday 's service was much better. Nor did they acknowledge my birthday, which I mentioned twice in my booking.
A nice lunch though, with an old friend of over 60 years!!!! From high school. We spent most of it talking about our aches and pains and our old school teachers. Poor G is coming off steroids, which is a slow and debilitating process 😢.
My brother posted a WhatsApp message! He sounded much more cheerful and full of cheeky humour! I told him he sounded healthily deranged! He hopes to be home this weekend. I will make the long trek on the train as soon as he is up for visitors.
Poor John spent most of the afternoon on the phone trying to renew his roadside assistance for the winter. In the end, he had to download a new browser in order to pay. Weird! He is not happy. Plus his back hurts. Boo for getting old.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxx

Hello, my chickens...
I'm using you to kill time because I'm to the inside pocket zipper stage on the bag I'm working on, and my 3-D capability brain got up and left the room. She'll come back eventually, once she gets done with her snit, but in the meantime, I figured I'd talk to y'all.
Barbara AHMOD - I know you're wonderfully pleased that the redwood volunteered! You may remember that I noted the mulberry tree Corey bought me for my birthday decided to do it's best impression of a stick? Well, the little thing actually CAME BACK. Corey just broke off the top, rather than pulling the whole root - and it started again. You can see it a month or so ago and then how it looked yesterday in the pics I put in earlier in the week. It's under the window at center house. SO pleased. My redbud that got knocked down by the FedEx driver was looking pretty pitiful, but it's pushed up suckers all the way around, so it might come back as well! You can see it next to the carriage lamp in my spoiler on page 6.
I got Corey's work clothes and the bedding out on the clothesline, the temp is just skimming 80 already, good day for drying clothes. I think I'll go ahead and go outside and get those morning glory vines hauled off before it gets too warm. Corey will call in an hour or so when he stops for lunch, and I'll grab a shower after that.
Oh - and the call with the hematologist went fine this morning, they see me now as "stable," and I am no longer anemic. Still want to see me in 3 months, though, and I'm fine with that. Not sure if I mentioned, but I've struggled on and off with anemia for nearly 40 years. Thought when I was younger that it was due to heavy periods, but apparently it's just part of my makeup now. I take iron in the morning and at noon. Back to Rita's drug interactions, I can't take my iron close to my thyroid med, so I take that at night, and iron during the day. Also take added vitamin C for iron absorption.
OK - time to get a couple things accomplished before it gets to warm.
Later, my babies,
Love,

Good Morning;
Lisa, I am so glad you found out why your tooth was bothering you and were able to remove it. I took some Aleve before bed, and I had no pain. I also took allergy meds. I was pain-free. I wonder if mine is allergy/sinus-related. I will make an appointment with the dentist to make sure. Either way, I am due for a cleaning and x-rays.
I woke up stuffy and tired, but I need to go to work, so I will go in. I tried to see how much vacation I had because I wanted to take off for my birthday weekend. I tried to scrapbook or do something creative for my birthday. I want a staycation. This Thanksgiving will be lonely if I get called off for work. I am scheduled to be in charge that day, but I am also the first to be called off due to my seniority. It will be too late to get to Chicago, where Thanksgiving is taking place for the family. I guess I can pass the call off to someone else. Last year, it was great to see my family after six years. I think I can visit my mom, but by the time I am called off, the Nursing home will be closed.
Terri, I hope you have a wonderful and safe trip. Have fun and make those memories.
Annie, it is a sad journey. I don't know if I told you this story. I was about 13, and the family cat Smokey, who looks like Lisa's Egg, was pacing, and his tale was swinging a certain way. I looked in his dish to see if he had food. I saw my grandma's teeth soaking in his water dish. Grandma walked by, asking if I took her teeth. I said no, but Smokey was mad that her teeth were in his water bowl. I laughed so hard that I couldn't breathe, and she laughed too. I reminded her to rinse her teeth out well before putting them in.
It got worse; my aunt Dawn left Grandma alone, and she caught the bus, and Grandma was lost at Venice Beach. They don't know what they are doing. It is a tough job, Annie. You may need to look into staying at home. Which is a service where someone can come out and help care for your dad. I don't know if your dad is open to strangers caring for him. My mom refused to let them help her and hid in her room. I paid 16 dollars an hour for them to talk on the phone and watch TV. Caring for our parents is a challenging process, my friend.
Debbie, I love the work you are doing to save those cats. That is how we got our first family cat. I love the thought of a catio. Can you send some pics of it with the cats?
Machka, It sounds like your Canada trip was beautiful. I love the other pics of you and DH riding bikes. I feel you see more sights when riding on a bike and walking to explore. I thought, wow, she is living the life.
I admire every one of you, and I am learning so much. I have learned that decluttering isn't so daunting. I realized that moving your body can be fun and that finding your niche is up to us. Have a great weekend, ladies.

I will take some pictures and post of the catios.
My mother in law demanded that we hire help because she said my husband wasn't doing anything/enough for her(he is there twice a day every single day for at least an hour but usually 2-3 hrs each time) plus does all her shopping, bill paying, takes her to her appointments.
The first lady dh found in the corner shaking on the second morning. MIL had turned the tv up all the way, wouldn't let her turn it down, was yelling at her. All because when MIL was talking *kitten* about dh the lady didn't agree with her- she couldn't get out of there fast enough.
We didn't hire anyone for 2 yrs- just hired the second one. The lady was supposed to help her cook. MIL knew that so got up really early that morning and cooked the curry so there was nothing for the lady to help her with then got mad that the lady didn't do anything. She has been there three times- the third time dh gave her a list of some light housework to do. The rest of the time she just sat on her phone. MIL said she even took a nap. While being paid $25 an hour. If we had hired her through an agency, we would be paying $45 an hour!! and minimum of 5 hr shifts.

Hey, all,
Productive day, trying really hard not to nap now. I slept through last night, and I'd like to get back to that more regularly if I can. I feel better when I do.
Still trying to work out the inside zipper pocket on this blinking thing, and I'm overthinking it, I know. I will figure it out, I just need to be a little patient with my balky lil brainpan, and do what's necessary. A mock-up will probably let my hands take over from my brain, if that makes sense.
Annie - Many hugs. I think of you every morning when I start my yoga. You got me going with this to begin with, you know. Hope your trip is a blast when it gets here, and that you can relax for the first time in a long time.
Vicki - Enjoy your weekend off, darlin'.
Mo - Many hugs on the mothers thing, no experience and no advice from my direction, just hugs. No easy answers.
Which reminds me - an update on my best friend's dad:My best friend is right in the middle of similar decisions. Her dad is back home from the hospital and the stroke seems to have done little damage. He doesn't have dementia, but is just barely on the edge of being able to take care of himself physically... and utterly refuses to leave his home. I think I've mentioned, even down to skin and bones, he is a mountain of a man, far too big for her to move in the physical sense.
She's trying very hard to cater to his needs (like getting all his living needs on one level in his home) while making sure he gets what he wants, and is tired and feeling a tiny bit resentful and terribly frustrated, both with herself and with him.
She lives about an hour and a half away, but doesn't want to move in with him, nor does he want her to. The home help that is available is minimal there, just for wound care for the bed sores he incurred in the hospital. Very rural, no assisted living facilities anywhere near, very little chance if any to get someone to move in, and he wouldn't want to have someon live in, and won't go to assisted living anyway. She's been living in her travel trailer - the same big beastie they drove to my house this last summer - in his yard for about a month, but needs to take it back home to get it under cover. It wasn't built to winterize, but she's going to have to. It literally cost more than my house to buy it...
She also didn't plan to stay in Montana over the winter, and doesn't want to, but knows she has to, which is her frustration. She's scared to go to her home, because snowstorms can happen any time and she wouldn't be able to get back to him. No easy answers, and from here, all I can do is listen and murmur platitudes.
Family - made me smile. This made me smile... my beautiful little granddaughter is thrilled to have her first braces. I think she's the first one in class to get them, and apparently, they mean she's more mature... 😂She has a terrible underbite, and the orthodontists think that with aggressive bracing, they can correct it to the point where they won't have to break her jaw and reset it later in life. You can tell she's happy about them now, though:
Barbie - Love deciphering your icons... I read it this way "Loving flowers and smiles and sunshine and dogs and walking the dogs and walking by myself as well." 🥰😂 A picture's worth a thousand words...
Time to work out this zipper thing... Corey will be calling in a half hour or so to say he's on the way home, and he's off for four days! Looking forward to time with him, and trying not to let him work himself into the ground on the outside of the house. The first is much more accomplishable than the second.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Pip – family can sometimes be real winners. I hope, too, they never have to deal with someone having MS. You are a much better person helping the way you do.
Just got back from the UPS store. We mailed a lot of furs that MIL had to PETA. They then distribute them to the refugees in Afghanistan and Iraq. If someone can use them…. They are so very pretty, but I know that there’s no way I can wear them.
Lisa – you poor dear. Well, try to look on the bright side….with your tooth hurting you won’t feel like eating! But glad you got that beef jerky out
Ginny – I missed the troll, too (boo)
Lisa – what a fantastic looking home you have. Do you happen to have a picture of what it looked like when you first bought it?
Annie – Huge HUG
Rita – Vince is the same way. When he goes to a new doctor, he just prints out all his medical info and just says “see attached” on the form. They never give you enough room, anyway. The hospital really liked that he had everything written down
Allie – when I have a sinus headache, I usually take a decongestant and that relieves it. Yes, it makes me dry in the mouth, but that’s a small price to pay
Mo – one of the ways I can tell when my sinuses are acting up is that I feel my teeth hurting. I didn’t realize that sinuses could affect teeth until the dentist took an x-ray and said that that was the cause of my pain
Planning to make a chocolate banana bundt cake tomorrow. Now to go get the marinade ready for the salmon and the pork chops for Vince to grill either tomorrow or sunday.

who just got back from her walk around the neighborhood4 -
Unfortunately I can't take decongestants because of the heart and kidneys ,did take tylenol, but it was basically a duvet day..
Im drinking alot of fluids and I had an apple with peanut butter but thats about it..
My poor brother is between a rock and a hard place..
His wife is basically ignoring him, spending like a fool and he has no money and really no way of making any.. she is also drinking heavily.. luckily he is staying sober.
I don't know how its all going to end honestly..he needs to contact an attorney. But he needs one pro bono.5 -

When I'm struggling to figure something out, that's when I like to go for a walk, climb stairs (if I'm at work), or go for a bicycle ride. I find that stepping away from the situation and getting the blood flowing helps a lot and I've often come back to my desk with a couple ideas to try with my SQL code or a plan for a tricky bit of garden or whatever.
Plants are amazing! They've got great survival techniques.
I'm the other way with my iron levels. Despite heavy periods and excessively frequent periods (caused by polyps and precancer), my iron levels remained borderline high. Now that I'm finished with my periods, I have been debating about starting to donate blood.
A well-meaning doctor (who hadn't checked my blood) once suggested I take iron for fatigue ... big ol' no! I tried it and was just about crippled. I also have to be careful with Vit C.

Hey, kids,
Up at my usual design-brain moment - 1:30 a.m. for some ungodly reason - because I had an idea that couldn't wait until a reasonable hour to find some paper and sketch out with some details... ah well, sleep will always come back around at some point.
Stopping a moment to say "Hi" and peel y'all off my conscious thinking process, and then going after that and the resolution to my pocket problem.
Machka - I know you're aware than most of this little fact that occurs to me on occasion. There is no way on Earth that I would be alive (and awake! Ha!) without the advent of modern medicine. At any other time in our history, I simply wouldn't have survived some parts of my life, and others would have disabled me partially or completely. For instance, I would have been half blind at 14 had an eye doctor not been available to repair my eyelid and tear duct when my brother kicked me in the eye. That was just one. I get a little cranky about the various medical-industrial establishments, but am terribly grateful for medicine and those who practice it.
And apparently, sleep (in four-hour chunks anyway) is where my inspiration lurks, waiting, to surface from the dark waters of my subconscious (or maybe pre-conscious) mind. I'd prefer exercise... 😂 Will have to try it!
Onward through the fog...
Love y'all!
Lisa in AR

Oh Lisa - I would be dead as a doornail without modern medicine. At 28 years old I suffered enormous blood loss from an ante partum hemorrhage, which resulted in the loss of my full term baby Kate, but so nearly could have killed me, had I not been 15 mins away from a major teaching hospital. My mother knew two women who had died from the exact same thing in the 'old days'.
Not to mention my breast cancer at 47 years old. And the list goes on......and on .......
I have spent the morning watching videos on knee arthritis and beginning to do the exercises. El Paso Manual Physical Therapy. I have no idea if his approach will work, but my usual physio's does not, so nothing to lose. Already I have been able to descend the stairs and climb them, (with difficulty, but could do it). I did a LOT of exercises this morning, and loosening, and positional techniques, so I'm hopeful. It certainly hasn't made it any worse.
One interesting thing was that he said to use your cane in a flair up. I will practise his walking techniques as well. I also did some upper body strengthening with wall push ups and weights.
Then I went for a tour of the 6th Arrondissement in Paris, (I know it very well).
Beautiful day here. I'm still pondering what to have for dinner, as, so far, the day has been carb heavy. (We had our birthday croissants this morning, with a fruit salad) I might just do sea bream with veggies.
Love to all. Both my beloved men are hoping to get out of hospital this weekend, so crossing fingers.

Perhaps living the life now.
6.5 years ago, my husband had a workplace accident which resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury. It put him into a coma for 3 weeks and post traumatic amnesia for 7 weeks. He has made a remarkable recovery but will never fully recover - he still has both physical and cognitive issues.
For 5.5 years, we were more or less "held prisoner" by the worker's compensation system here ... strongly discouraged from leaving the little island of Tasmania, or even from leaving the area immediately around where we live by threats that his worker's compensation would be cut off.
It was a long and extremely stressful 5.5 years for both of us ... coming to grips with his disability, trying to follow the rules of the worker's compensation system, trying to explain to his back-to-work that the tasks she wanted my husband to do would harm him, and most stressful of all, wading through the legal system.
About a year ago, everything was finally settled and we were set free.
Since then, we've hardly known what to do with ourselves!!

Today we went to a bee festival. It was held about an hour from where we live and gave us the chance to see my husband's sister for a little bit too.
We were impressed with the number of people out to the festival and the number of booths with bee-related products and information. Picked up a few things, of course!
When we got home, we attended a natural beekeeping webinar which was really interesting.
Although we don't have bees at the moment, when we have had them (and when we get them again), we are natural beekeepers.
We're slowly getting back to life in Tasmania again although I think I am still suffering from jet lag.
And I'm slowly getting back to eating normally again!
We got to Canada, and of course, I headed straight for the Tim Horton's donuts and DQ Blizzards. Until very recently, the only donuts we've had here have not been good at all ... easy to ignore. Now we've got better donuts, but they're a bit over the top. I like Tim Horton's donuts.
And we don't have Blizzards here.
Then I was sampling Reece's Peanut Butter Cups and Cheezies. Again, we don't have those things in Tasmania.
And there were butter tarts, date squares and nanaimo bars, which we don't have in Tasmania.
And we ate out several times with the monster servings that Canadian restaurants feel they need to produce.
All very delicious but not good for the weight or the digestive system. My digestive system freaked out several times like it was yelling, "What are you feeding me?!?"
We also ate beef (because my parents are big into red meat), and my digestive system didn't appreciate that at all! It staged a protest.
My weight is dropping a bit since we've been back, and my digestive system is more settled now.

Heather - super photo of you and your friend - that Chanel jacket is very nice. You are always so well "put together". I'm with you on the loud music, by the way. A person goes out to eat to have a nice conversation and not compete with background noise. Sorry to hear about John's tooth problem. Glad to hear you found knee exercises which help. When the foot doc said "there's not much you can do, it will only get worse. Try to deal with the symptoms" I went online and found other foot docs who have had some success in reversing curling toes, so I've incorporated their exercises. It can't hurt. Wishing the best for your brother and ex.
Debbie - I didn't realize California was having such a heatwave until you mentioned it, guess I've been focused on the east coast weather problems. Hope you are getting over your cold and asthma.
Machka - so fun to read about your travels. You and your DH used to be on the go a lot, so it's good news that you are "set free" as you said.
Michele - so very grateful you weren't affected by the disaster in western NC. I've been watching cleanup and rescue efforts and the loss of life is staggering. Unimaginable. I know I've mentioned my area had similar heavy rain and flooding river in 2007, bridges and culverts and roads washed out, homes damaged from a huge wall of water that came down from the hills. Lots of livestock lost. Homes uninhabitable. Only one life lost - a person swept away in the floodwaters and never found. Probably eventually washed into the Pacific Ocean.
Disaster preparation:I spent yesterday going over what I'd do if I lost power for more than a day or two. Think I'm pretty well set - there's so much information online now about emergency heating, refrigeration, dealing with toilet facilities. I'm pretty well stocked with water, food, propane to get me through for a while if need be. The only thing is, now that I'm living by myself, I'll have to figure out ways to do things differently. I have a generator in the shop ready to go, but I don't have the strength to move it. I don't think I even need it. Can I open the garage door manually to get the car out if I need to go somewhere? Not sure, would probably need Roger across the street to help if he's able. When DH was alive, he would have taken care of all this.
But in a way, it's simpler now. He would have been frustrated if the power went out and he couldn't watch TV. He'd complain that pour-over drip coffee wasn't as good as the Keurig. He'd be cold and have the woodstove cranked up when it would have been easy to just put on a sweater. I used to dread power outages for even a few hours because they'd upset him so, even when he was in good health.
I miss him terribly, but I'm content to take the minimalist route and focus on the bare necessities and find alternate and easy ways of dealing with things.
The days are getting shorter quickly at my latitude. I'll head out in an hour to fill up the Subaru and get groceries.
And give thanks I have electricity so the garage door picker-upper works.

Watched a you tube interview on the importance of nitrous oxide for our bodies last night. Because it is a gas their is no reliable test for it. If you are low in it symptoms may show you are low in it. Vascular issues and high blood pressure (anything over 120/80) are two such symptoms... Why it is so important is it keeps our vascular system healthy. Unhealthy think heart attack, dementia, stroke. Age can also be a factor in low levels.
Ways to keep levels up...diet. Beets and dark green veggies think spinach, arugula...Remove over processed food from your diet...Breathing through your nose...hence the mouth taping and breath strips at night for me...exercise -resistant training and activities that get your heart pumping.
Two habits that decrease nitrous oxide...over use of mouthwash and Fluoride... I chew on cloves or rinse with a solution of baking soda and water if I want to freshen my breath...I haven't used Fluoride toothpaste in years... I filter my water to remove Fluoride. Often bad breath is a sign of trouble in your gut. My DH had this and would not believe me what a problem it was. I believe if he had addressed this his cancer might have been avoided and or easier to manage. The problem with mouth wash and fluoride is they disrupt the microbiome in your mouth. Chinese believe a healthy mouth is a healthy you. They also discussed the effects of low grade infections in your mouth. If you have had a root canal, so far I have not, it is important to monitor that tooth or teeth because the blood supply and nerves are gone and if an infection is going on it that tooth you will not feel it nor blood cannot get to that area to combat the infection. If there is a silent infection and it is properly treated it can make a tremendous difference in your health.
The number one culprit that causes tooth issues cavities and gum disease is sugar. I have drastically cut my sugar consumption.
