Watched a you tube interview on the importance of nitrous oxide for our bodies last night. Because it is a gas their is no reliable test for it. If you are low in it symptoms may show you are low in it. Vascular issues and high blood pressure (anything over 120/80) are two such symptoms... Why it is so important is it keeps our vascular system healthy. Unhealthy think heart attack, dementia, stroke. Age can also be a factor in low levels.
Ways to keep levels up...diet. Beets and dark green veggies think spinach, arugula...Remove over processed food from your diet...Breathing through your nose...hence the mouth taping and breath strips at night for me...exercise -resistant training and activities that get your heart pumping.
Two habits that decrease nitrous oxide...over use of mouthwash and Fluoride... I chew on cloves or rinse with a solution of baking soda and water if I want to freshen my breath...I haven't used Fluoride toothpaste in years... I filter my water to remove Fluoride. Often bad breath is a sign of trouble in your gut. My DH had this and would not believe me what a problem it was. I believe if he had addressed this his cancer might have been avoided and or easier to manage. The problem with mouth wash and fluoride is they disrupt the microbiome in your mouth. Chinese believe a healthy mouth is a healthy you. They also discussed the effects of low grade infections in your mouth. If you have had a root canal, so far I have not, it is important to monitor that tooth or teeth because the blood supply and nerves are gone and if an infection is going on it that tooth you will not feel it nor blood cannot get to that area to combat the infection. If there is a silent infection and it is properly treated it can make a tremendous difference in your health.
The number one culprit that causes tooth issues cavities and gum disease is sugar. I have drastically cut my sugar consumption.
Nitrous Oxide puts a person to sleep.
You might mean nitric oxide, which may be found in vegetables.

Heather - it sounds like a lovely day!
Machka - were you in Canada again just now? I hope your family is ok.
Lisa - that’s awesome that you’ve made the jump to thinking of Yoga as self care. I need to start thinking the same way.
Allie - When is your cruise? It just be coming up soon isn’t it?
Lanette - one old business I worked at had “payroll Friday’s” it was drinks in the office after work. So funny I don’t think that could happen anymore.
We go for walks when I visit Kaitlyn.
I watched the new show Dr. Odyssey tonight. It’s a very luxurious ship. Don Johnson is a handsome captain.
I am so far behind!
I wanted to comment about everyone hoping Terri doesn’t overdo.
In 1990 Rodger and I moved into a house with 10ft ceilings. It was a beautiful old place but needed a lot of freshening up. I decided I wanted to wallpaper but had never done it so my grandmother offered to come do it. She stood on the top rung of the ladder and wallpapered 4 or 5 rooms in that house for me. I think it was only about 10 years ago I figured out how blessed I was that my 78 year old grandmother would do that for me! She wallpapered my brother’s house in 2000!
I hope I’m able to do that stuff at that age, but I’m in so much pain most of the time I don’t think it will happen.
Rita - On the prescription train, I learned when my Dad was sick that it’s very important to use the same pharmacist too. My parent’s doctor said it’s more important than the doctor being the same. My parents used 4 sometimes 5 different pharmacies and they had interactions because the pharmacist’s didn’t have the big picture.
Debbie - I don’t know if I would believe your MIL she probably badmouths the lady you hired in hopes DH will get rid of her. She sure makes life difficult for herself and anyone she comes in contact with.
Lisa - Can you friend put an ad in a local paper or something. My MIL and a few other ladies in her area checked in on people, helped clean, cook whatever so people could stay in their own homes longer.
I have read through the last couple of days and made a few notes. I’m finding myself not interested in typing after working all day. I’ve done a lot of sitting and watching tv which is not good!
Today I am working at the ceramics shop for the owner. She is attending a wedding today. I enjoy doing this for her, she gives me free products or drop in fees to thank me.
This evening I need to go get some groceries at Costco.

@Allie great job on the weight loss, now to beat those UTI’s and sinus issues!! You can do it!
Dinner yesterday was 1 cup fusilli with brogioli (sp?) (meat with spices spread on it then rolled and tied then cooked in sauce. Good for tough pieces and skinny pieces of meat. Can be pork, beef, or poultry.) and tomato sauce along with a large salad.

Good morning, Friends. I have had a challenge from a parent who demanded the charge nurse to assign me to her child. Then she asked for my number, and I said, "No, Mam." I explained that it was against the rules She didn't want me to leave and had me looking at pics on her phone Last night she wanted me to go in the bathroom with her to look at her butt cause she is bleeding I told her I would watch her child, while she goes to the ER I explained that I am not a proctologist Then she told me that she brought her chart if I needed a refresh of her history I told her I am here to care for her daughter not her She said that I always set her straight even in November 13, 2022 when I first cared for them She asked if she could call me Ti-Ti or Grandma I told her that she could call me Monique or Mo My friend use to help me get out of the room in the past and then she would get stuck So I had to tell my co-workers to help me if I was gone too long (they didn't) I got out late, and the day shift laughed at me Her daughter is so sweet Then the woman asked if I could cook her a meal today and bring it in I told her no My meals are pre-planned, so I do not have to cook when I am working So, I have a challenging weekend I did have a cute baby to care for, but the mom didn't share The other one, the mom and I got along well.
I wonder if I am getting mean at my mature age. I am very protective of my time, and my neighbors want me to hang out with them individually—especially the one who smokes. I stayed with her when she fell until AMR arrived to get her up. I can't tolerate cigarette smoke due to my asthma.
DH called and gave me the best news on my way to work. He called my mom's nursing home, and they love my mom so that she can stay. She will be in assisted care living, and she gets to keep her room. The cost will be less, too. I would rather pay the same because I appreciate this. Now, we need to figure out about my MIL.
Vicki, enjoy your day off. You deserve it.
Allie, can you take Coricidan? It is supposed to be the choice for heart patients.
Lisa, my dad had a stroke when they did an angiocath on him when I didn't want the docs to. I cried and told him I would move to California to care for him, and my kids could attend my childhood school. He told me that he couldn't live like that. I argued that he could. Then he went into a coma and died a few days later. I wonder if your friend's dad is fighting for his independence again.
Your granddaughter is so pretty. I love her smile, too. I wanted braces so badly when I was a teen. All I needed was a retainer. It seemed like the popular kids had them. There was the cheerleader who had an underbite, and I would hold my mouth like hers. I would ask my dad how I looked, and he said I looked crazy. It is so funny how we looked at things back then. My son needs braces, but he wants Invisalign.
Michelle in NC, you are so right. Now I don't have a problem with my teeth. I will check with the dentist anyway. How are you doing?
Machka, I have always learned a lot from you. Drugs.com is very useful. My mom had the wrong combo of meds, and it was hard to wake up.
Debbie, you are absolutely right. It is so hard to figure out what our families will agree to for help.
Annie, are you ready for Vegas?
Pip, you sound like you don't take BS from anyone.
Well, I'd better go to bed. Enjoy your Saturday.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

Allie ~ Congrats on the 35 lb weight loss! So happy for you.
Mo ~ So sorry that the little girl's mom made your work shift so difficult. The lady must have some mental problems or is very needy due to unknown circumstances. Also, glad your mom will be able to stay in the place she likes.
Tracey ~ Can't believe your 78 yr old grandmother wallpapered you home. I was able to do that in my 40's/50's but absolutely no way now. I feel so good that over the last two weeks I got all the carpet vacuumed and the kitchen and baths mopped. For me that was a BIG plus.
Lisa ~ Love your grand's braces and smile. She looks so happy.

Hi All.
I missed the troll too.
Update on my extreme eating. I lost 2.2 pounds over 3 days. I realize at least some are going to return, but I was curious to see what happened. I think I will target 100+ grams of protein going forward. I don’t think I can go saltless and still enjoy my food though. I tried 4 different Mrs. Dash blends and they all tasted the same, like an abundance of black pepper, to me. I’m not a fan of too much pepper of any kind.
I did enjoy my espresso without milk though. That surprised me.
We went to our somewhat annual Iron Maiden concert last night. It was good, but they are noticeably slowing down. I can’t blame them. They still have far more endurance than I do. We didn’t like getting home after 2am though.
I have a new grand niece. She was home one night and went into the NICU for labored breathing. Her heart rate was too low, but they gave no diagnosis. She’s been there 3 nights. She seems to be eating well and they are sending her home tomorrow. So I don’t know what’s up. She’s a real cutie though.
So nice to see Karen in VA pop in.
Glad you’re well, Michelle.
Best wishes to you all.

We unexpectedly had a request from Edie to come over this afternoon - after bike riding and a party! So lucky.
She turned up with her badge maker she got for her birthday. But first we went outside and planted daffodils in our big pot, and I gave her a smaller pot to plant some for herself to take home. Don't think my son was too delighted!
John stuck the geraniums we'd removed from the pot into the front garden where the big tree was cut down, and we threw the rest of the bulbs there. It's unlikely anything will come up, or survive the winter, but we've given them a chance. Geraniums do survive the milder winters here.
Then the badge making began. Edie ended up making three, and John made one for me because I kept talking about Monty Don while we were planting the bulbs etc. Monty is a very handsome gardener on our TV every week.
Typical Edie was the joke about the asteroids hitting Earth.
So, a wonderful afternoon.
Really tired now.

I am very ready for a bit of cooler weather. It is 4pm and it is still 97 degrees. Tomorrow is supposed to be hotter(record high possible)
So many things that I should be doing but don't feel like doing any. Some will have to be done by this evening(baking for the potluck at church tomorrow)> Also have a pile of laundry to fold and put away and a sink full of dishes to wash.
Still dealing with my asthma. Nebulizer treatments at least 3 times a day(should be doing 4)
Not sure what has happened to my prescription for my cough medicine. Dr has called it in twice and still not there.I will be over this by the time they finally get it ready.
Mo- the biggest thing with my mother in law is that first, she doesn't really need that much help. She is capable of doing everything for herself, if she is careful, except setting up her pills/paying the bills/grocery shopping. She wants dh to be over there all the time- He was there 24/7 when she first fell but then stopped when she got better. She didn't like that. Second, she is mean and hateful. A real bully towards everyone, especially my husband and I. She wants someone there to wait on her, serve her(read her mind of what she wants). She does not appreciate anything we do for her at all. In her mind, it is expected of us to do everything for her, not get even a thank you most of the time, and take her verbal abuse daily and keep coming back for more. If she was a bit nicer, it wouldn't be so bad.
If my husband takes a day off and I go do it, he pays for it for the next few weeks. She really is bad-verbally abuse. The only reason he has taken a day off here or there is if we had a show to sell our 3D printed stuff- We are missing out on so many shows, just because he doesn't want to deal with her later.
She is capable of going a day without him there- even a weekend as long as he sets her pills out for her and has food in the fridge but she doesn't want to. She doesn't care that we are loosing money not doing the shows. Says we are greedy if we want to do them(same thing if he works a shift once a week-again, loosing money if he doesn't work. He has missed shifts because of her but she doesn't care) I am so ready for her to be put in a home or die. We have been married 32 yrs, dated for 3 before that and she still doesn't like me, never has. I cook food and he takes it over to her but she will ask if I cooked it, if he says yes, she refuses to eat it. A friend of ours cooked and we took it over and she tried to give them $50 for it(it was left overs from Thanksgiving dinner that we had together.

Dh just called me- new one from his mom. She said the tea he gave her this morning made her sick. She thinks he is poisoning her. While he was telling me this, I heard her in the back ground yelling at him that he could go to h**** because he was on his phone.
He will be in a mood when he gets home- Thankfully, he is working tonight- going in at 9PM so I won't have to listen to it for too long.
other update- up a degree, almost 5pm and now 98

M – I do some of my best thinking when I’m in the pool. Guess it’s because being in the pool is so relaxing that I can think. I also find that I do a lot of thinking while I’m on my walk, but mostly about things I need to do, I add things to my grocery list (I keep it on my phone), make phone calls, things like that
Made the banana chocolate cake, right now it’s cooling, maybe this afternoon I’ll make icing. I’m going to try icing it the way Sam’s iced their lemon bundt cake (I cut it up at the soup kitchen yesterday). The one thing I didn’t like was that the entire middle of the bundt cake was filled with nothing but icing. But Vince may like that.
We contracted with TruGreen to take care of our lawn. They first said they’d come out on the 3rd to give us a treatment for the red ants. No show. Admitted, the guy who signed us up said that so he might very well have said anything. Then they were supposed to be here between the 3rd and the 5th. We were told they’d text the day before they were to come. No text. So I called today to say how we are a new customer, this was to be our first treatment, was told they’d be here the 8th. In looking them up on the BBB site, seems they don’t have a good rating. Which to me, is very surprising since a lot of the neighbors use them. So we shall see what happens on the 8th.
After Vince has his lunch, we’re going to go out to trim the bushes. I suggested we use the dump cart for the tractor for all the branches, but Vince thinks that our gorilla cart will be enough. I don’t think so, and it’ll be me who has to walk around and empty the cart. I just spoke to Vince and got “OK, we’ll get out the GD dump cart”. It’s not like it’s going to be him walking back and forth to empty the gorilla cart.
Oh, remember that hole in the pergola? I told you it would be me who would be filling it in. Guess what I did yesterday?
My friend, Lynette, said that she purchased a house. I’m surprised where it is. Right on a highway, it’s probably about 20 minutes from our house. She’s the one who is always concerned about the weather (she talked once about Vince driving her to work <10 minutes away> because of the “snow”) so I would have thought she’d get a place closer to work. It has a pool. At one time she mentioned something about her having Vince take care of it. Not going to happen! He may help her at first to get it in shape, but not continually especially since it’s so far away. From the listing, it’s got well water. Wonder if she realizes that if the power goes out, so does her water. It’s on a septic. Right now she lives in town, she has all her life. Life with a septic is a bit different, you have to be careful not to put certain things (like lots of grease) down your septic. If it’s raining hard for a long time, you have to be careful of your water usage. Oh well...she’ll learn. It is going to be hard for me not to say anything to her. I do want to protect my friends but….. The house is 57 years old
Lanette – yes, you can open your garage door manually if you don’t have power. There’s a pull cord.
Allie – congrats on the weight loss. You are killlin’ it girl
Think I’ll take another piece of ceramic bisq with me to ceramics Mon. I was thinking of taking this Miss Piggy with me since next I want to work on Kermit the Frog. However, I just now saw that it’s a holiday Miss Piggy. She has holly leaves in her hair and is holding a bag of presents. Wish it wasn’t holiday-ish but that was the only Miss Piggy I could find anywhere. Well, guess I just gotta keep looking for ideas for colors.
Mo – thanks so much for your concern. We’re all fine, getting back to normal, trying to get caught up. But on the whole, doing real well. Taking care of that girl certainly made up for her mom
Tracey – I wouldn’t be able to wallpaper, and I’m not even 70 (yet)
Tina – we’ve gone to see TSO for almost 20 years, and, yes, I can see how they’re slowing down. One of the guys used to run across the stage multiple times and I see now that he only goes once and he’s not as fast. Unfortunately, that’s just time. Congrats on the addition to the family!
Just finished my walk. Cut it short because it was getting dark.

Well it looks like Milton is going to bombard Florida with another hurricane..this is rediculous..I feel so bad for e everyone down there..the PTSD for everyone must be unreal..
Was texting with Elena tonight and they are thinking of selling the place down there.. I loved it down there and Elena had some good times down there, but between the weather and all I think its just getting to be to much. So if it survives these hurricanes, I think it will be put up for sale.
They don't need the headaches at this stage of the game.Nobody does
I get to watch the little princess on Tuesday so mom and dad can go to the movies, that will be fun..I have so much to do this week

My family is all right. We got to see all sorts of relatives on this trip! And my parents are teetering on the brink of whether to go into an independent living place or stay where they are. I checked out prices at a couple places. The one my mother likes the best is very expensive, the other one is more reasonable but not quite as nice. But I don't think they need to take that step yet because they are in a 55+ community and in a house that's all one level and reasonably easy access, so I'm kind of investigating home care options.
Meanwhile we did some gardening for them while we were there.
My parents are both in their 80s. My mother doesn't get out and about very much, but my father still rides his cattrike.
(picture from 2008)
I had to smile about your grandmother. Sounds like mine!! Mine was still gardening on a hillside into her 70s ... had a hip replacement in her early 80s and when I visited her about 6 weeks later, I could hardly keep up with her as we practically sprinted to the grocery store about 1 km away. Slight exaggeration, of course, but she was fit! She used her cane as a pointing tool more than a walking tool. She was active right up to about 95 years old and then started slowing down ... and passed away when she was 97.
I hope to follow in her footsteps.

Heather - a lovely unexpected visitor. I love her sense of humour.
Pip - it will be nice to enjoy your patio again.
Debbie - I really feel for you and your husband what a miserable situation for all of you.
My grandmother was a strong active woman well into her late 80’s. She weighed herself every Sunday if she weighed more than 110lbs she would limit her intake the next week. She ate three meals a day and I don’t believe I ever saw her snack.
This picture was taken a few months after she had wallpapered. I’ll have to dig out a photo of her when she was younger.
Machka - my grandmother refused a hip replacement in her early 80’s and regretted it later but at that point they wouldn’t do it. My brother and his wife moved in with her in 2000. She wasn’t sleeping well because she was nervous she wouldn’t hear the smoke alarm, she also had wood heat still. In 2007 she moved into a boarding house for seniors. She refused to move her bedroom downstairs and she didn’t want any family member helping her with any personal care if she needed it. she chose this place where her meals were provided, meds given to her and she was helped with getting in and out of the tub. She enjoyed it there for the last almost two years of her life. She passed at 95.
Yay for Daylight Savings time. We are losing ours.
I worked at the ceramic shop this afternoon, it was busy. I love that she is having good days.
I can’t wait to see a set one lady made for her granddaughter.
I worked on my dragon some more.

Gratitudes:
Saturday: Perfect autumn weather, sunny, 65, no wind. Skipped dog group but invested almost 2 hours puttering in the garden. Very pleasant.
Friday: Pleasant trip with T. Ibuprofen, then champagne eased rib discomfort from wrestling with the loaner.
Lanette how will you use your dried aronia berries? Googled and saw many health benefits but I wouldn’t be in a hurry to sample something called a black chokeberry
Heather the lunch pic but lardo doesn’t appeal
Rita thanks for the rX interactions links. I like my wild compression sox too, but what a pita to get them on and off
Lisa, envy your returning mulberry. Mine won’t be back. Not enough sun in the side yard (or anywhere on our land) for the dwarf orchard I planted. Mandarin, mulberry, white peach, all dead sticks. Apple and cherry still struggling on. Our only reliable fruit sources are salal (yuck but the dogs like them), roaming strawberries and wild evergreen huckleberries (yum.)
Tracey yours to Debbie about the MIL badmouthing the helper. Insightful.
Mo imho being protective of your time is not being mean. Healthy boundaries. Well done.
Tina whooshing healing healthful thoughts to your new baby niece.
Debbie imho your poor DH and you are already in h*** thanks to your MIL. ((hugs))

Machka-I don't know if they have them in Canada but I am looking at independent living with an assisted living option available-hopefully that would eliminate 2 moves. I am thinking that while now I feel pretty good, as I move into my 70s it might be nice to assistance if needed-during illness and such. Of course, you all know I can change my mind at any moment, but that is what is appealing.
Have spent time this weekend slowly catching up on house things. With work hectic, home suffers. Leaving for short out of town work trip. Will stay tonight, attend meetings tomorrow, stay overnight, got to meetings until 10 and then head back to office for more meetings! Right now I am projecting mid 2025 to retire.
Lanette-I think planning for emergencies is essential. Garage door opens fairly easily without power. As Michele says, you pull the cord. Might want to try it a couple of times so you are familiar before it is essential.
I am restocking and rethinking an emergency bag. I have portable small power sources (no generator) but can keep phones going, weather radio, etc. I am looking at upgrading to Iphone 16 because I like the availability of satellite calling (my 13 doesn't have that).
Lots more I was thinking about commenting on but thoughts flew out of my mind! Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Good luck with the various trials and tribulations we all face-we are strong women-we can deal with whatever it is!
Take care all,

Morning, my chickens, from the reasonably early morning of the Arkansas River Valley,
Kept falling over in a nap every time I turned around yesterday, not much fun for Corey, but he had time to finish his book, so he was happy. My mind won't let me sleep at night, and my body won't let me get away with not enough sleep, and will lay me down later. We all achieve balance in our own way, I guess.
After I got up the second time, he made kung pao chicken, vegetables and noodles for dinner, and it was absolutely wonderful. He's a great instinctive cook. He used the dried ginger that I dehydrated in the spring, and it really held up well - MUCH better than ground ginger, had that scent and the twang! of fresh ginger. He uses it to make ginger beer, as well.
Mo - Agree that holding onto your boundaries is not mean, it's necessary. There are people who will push that boundary long past the point of breaking, and for your own sake, you are doing the right thing by holding them at arm's length. It sounds like you're doing that very gently, and with respect, so no, you are not mean in any way. I would have probably left the room cackling with laughter at the thought of what she wanted from you. Can't even believe people could ask those things of you.
Heather - Edie's face is just stunning. You can see what an absolutely beautiful woman she's going to be. Love her sense of humor, too. She and Max both have a real sense of who they are, if photos are anything to go by--much more self-assurance than I had at their age. Bea, on the other hand, wants to be everyone still, I think.Maybe assuming too much from photographs and your comments, but they're a wonderful lot to watch grow up. Love watching all the grands grow.
OK... I fell over exhausted at 9:30 last night, and this horrifying mess is what I walked away from:
Well, except the coffee and the tea - brought those in with me. But, I got the handles created and installed, as I had to do that before I could place the cellphone and tablet sleeve pockets in. The way I tried it yesterday just didn't work at all. Won't take long once I get the fabric bound at the edges, they're just open pockets. Then I can install the inside in the outside and it'll be good, darn tootin'! And if you remember that, you might remember the Fig Newton commercial it came from. I may not remember what I went into another room to get, but I can remember a commercial from 1975!

The funny part being, of course, that I didn't even LIKE Fig Newtons. Never was fond of cooked fruit. So, of course, Corey's making applesauce today.
Play time!
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

M You are correct it is nitric oxide.
Mo Great job in setting boundaries with the parent of one of your patients. Sorry you have to set the boundaries in the first place.
Debbie I am sorry MIL is so awful. DH is the one who needs to set boundaries. I understand why it is so hard to do! The fact that it is costing you peace of mind and money is not right. You are correct she will not care what it costs you. She sounds like a very troubled woman.

The days get longer and shorter all by themselves. DST just shifts it from one end of the day to the other. Depending on how one lives ones life, it matters whether the light is in the morning or the evening. Days are getting shorter here, and will continue to do so until December. I find it very jarring when the clocks change because I am a creature of habit and the gradual changes fit better with me than a sudden change.
Barbara, I applaud your decluttering efforts. It is a daunting task, and just like learning any new habit, it is a challenge to keep it going day after day.
Lisa, Having a designated craft room allows you the luxury of leaving everything in the middle of a project while you rest and sort through the challenges. You are very fortunate.
Debbie, I feel for you. It's so easy for us to say you should detach emotionally and physically from your MIL and your husband but it's a lot easier said than done.
Annie, you are a champ with your care of your dad He is a fortunate man and you are an awesome woman.

Dinner yesterday was pork roast, pan fried potatoes, large salad with oil and vinegar, and an orange for dessert.
Son called last night but DH took the phone from me! I hadn’t heard from my DS in a few weeks because his phone is broke. He called from a friend’s landline, which immediately made me worry. LOL, but it was my son checking in. He sounded good so happy about that. I worry about him.
