Hi! I just reupped today and was looking for a group I could join. I am 70. I lost 50 pounds on MFP over 10 years ago but gained back 30. Can I join you all?1

oceanmelody We also have vehicle inspections in Canada with each province having their own set of rules.
Crochetluvr Welcome to our little group! Pop in whenever you like and we would love to hear from you.
I'm from Canada....74 years old and have about 30 pounds to lose as well. I'm losing 1 1b per week currently and using 1200 calories as my calorie count per day. Seems to be working so far. Look forward to hearing from you.1 -
Hello, I am 71 and just retired this summer. I really got weak in the last half year of working fulltime. My goal for retirement is to get healthy and fit. I am really interested in nutrition but exercise is what I need to address the most. Since retiring I have lost 10 lbs and started to exercise 6 days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes. My husband and I do aquafit every Sunday for about 50-55 minutes. I am also adding in strength training. I find that I gain when I am working fulltime and lose when I am not. I believe it is because I have more time to focus on exercise and making healthy meals at home. I do not feel it is only calories in and calories out. I feel it matters what you eat but then my goal is health not just losing. However I have a lot to lose so I am definitely focusing on that. Hope you don't mind me joining this thread.

KeriA. Welcome to our group and we’ll done with the exercises! Totally agree that weight loss is more than simply calories in and calories out. What you eat and exercise are so very important.1

Welcome KeriA and Crochetluvr! I’m in upstate NY and I’m 71. Would love to lose 15 pounds. Trying to exercise and stick to 1200 a day. Joined this group when mfp took newsfeed away. Have been on mfp forever.1

Good morning everyone and thank you for the welcome!
This is my 4th day. Last night was TOUGH. I am used to late snacking and I was SOOO tempted. But I soldiered through and this morning I feel good! Yesterday I took my second 3 mile walk of the week and that was an accomplishment too because it was hotter out. But I did it and I will continue twice a week for now until I get a little more stamina. I still have my stationary bike in the living room for in-between exercise.
Oceanmelody, thank you! I am in S. Jersey and I miss the newsfeed, too. But here we are!! I originally started on MFP in 2011. Came back a couple times and failed. NO failure this time...I am motivated! We will do this!
I hope everyone has a productive weekend! And enjoy!!2 -
I am making progress with losing weight this week. I am doing better with exercise but not as much as I want. We have 2 dinner parties this weekend. One at my brother's and one here with our best friends. They live here only in the summer. I am close to losing 12 lbs since retiring.1
-
I am a native Jersey girl who’s been up here for many years. Have family in South Jersey and love my Jersey shore.
Going on vacation soon and hope all the walking will help keep off pounds. Still planning on trying the local foods and desserts.
Managed a 22.5 mile bike ride along the Erie Canal yesterday and took a break from exercise today!2 -
Good morning. Looks like everyone is staying on track with exercise....well done!
Quiet day yesterday as it was raining pretty much all day. Have to get out this morning and pick all my tomatoes as we dipped down low again last night so getting too close to frost. Have a nice crop of tomatoes and it would be a shame to lose them. They can ripen in the basement.1 -
I’m hoping there won’t be frost here for a while. Still want to pick tomatoes when I get back.
Took a little walk today. Brought bike in to get an annoying squeak fixed over vacation.1 -
Hope everyone had a great Saturday. I got a call from my daughter...she was grilling at my ex's and said there was plenty of food and I should come over. I tried to eat well and although I did go over my calories, it wasn't by too much.
Oh....my ex and I are on relatively good terms so that's why I can go there. I help him out sometimes and he pays me, so what the heck? Tomorrow it's back on plan.
Good night, all!0 -
Tomorrow is our trip. Not sure if I will post for a while. But have to at least make an effort to log food—I have a streak of over 3000 days I can’t break! Hope you all have a great bunch of days!2

oceanmelody Hope you have a wonderful holiday and enjoy your time away. Look forward to hearing from you when you get back.
Picked all my tomatoes and stored them in the basement. Just have carrots and potatoes left in the garden now. Will wait until a frost before I deal with them.1 -
Happy Monday everyone! I got out for awhile with my partner and did some errands so I did get in some steps. He also helped me to load up some items for donation that have been sitting around my apartment for months and taking up space. Happy to see them gone finally. Now I have to continue organizing my spare room and get that set once and for all....it's been a mess for ages.
Looking forward to Fall and decorating for the season. And continue working on my crochet projects for the holidays. Enjoy the rest of your day!1 -
Hair appointment early this morning and just got back. Hubby and I have decided to start downsizing our farming operation. At the ages of 74 and 75 it is definitely time. Will not be renting out our land but instead putting it into hay over the next couple of years. Not going to renew our organic certification as we will probably only seed one quarter and the cost is not worth it.1

Hi again! Today I got a lot accomplished. Got my vaccinations for the fall, my bloodwork taken care of and got my nails done and my eyebrows waxed. That's my splurge for the month. Next the dog needs grooming.
It's a cloudy day, but no rain at the moment. We need the rain.
Have a good evening everyone!1 -
Off to Costco this morning for a major grocery run. Cool morning and looks like a touch of light frost.
My little dog needs to see the groomer too. Will book her in for the end of the month. Just will get her clipped short but not shaved as I know we are heading into cooler weather.1 -
Good Morning!
My right arm is really sore from the vaccines. Had trouble sleeping because of it. Hope that passes quickly.
My A1c dropped a little from 6.9 to 6.6. It should improve even more as the weeks go by. I am pleased.
Nothing special on the agenda today....some shredding of old documents and organizing my yarn. It needs it.
Happy Thursday, all!0 -
I am back but jet lagged. Had a wonderful time in Netherlands and Belgium. So much walking!!! Great fresh food. So much art and history. Not sure how many more overseas flights are left in me—glad we did this one. Will not hop on the scale for a bit but just eat normally and try to keep walking. Sounds like everyone is doing well.
Getting the shots next week.
Impressed anyone can keep up with farm work as they get older. It’s good to assess and slow down when needed.0 -
oceanmelody Welcome back! I'm sure you had a wonderful time. I've been to Amsterdam and loved it. It was our end destination on a Rhine river cruise. Nice to enjoy the local cuisine as I think that is all part of the travel experience. I find overseas flights tiresome also.
Been busy here with harvest. Ended up only combining some of the field as most of it was a total loss due to our extreme 3 weeks of hot dry weather. Hubby will just work the rest under in the spring and hopefully next year will be a better outcome. Farming has become more of a struggle the last few years due to our ever changing weather patterns.
Picked all my tomatoes and now making tomato sauce as they ripen. Made one batch already which produced 14 cups of delicious sauce. The San Marzano tomatoes that I added along with the Beefsteak tomatoes make for a nice thick sauce. Very pleased with the result and will be growing them again next year for sure.
Off to the dump this morning. Been decluttering the last few months and had put bags of items that are for the dump in the basement. Will be nice to be rid of them. Some items have been donated but still lots of clutter that has accumulated over the last 50 years.0 -
Walked along the canal. Sampled our Belgian chocolate. Did some reading. This week we have to make some progress on this place. So much weeding to do and painting projects to finish before cold weather sets in.
That sauce sounds amazing!0 -
I love Belgian chocolate. Trying to get some reading done too. Had some books on hold from the library for my kobo and decided to get a book that was available and started reading it. Next day 2 of my books on hold were available so I now have 3 to work on.
Started a little crochet project. Ordered an item through amazon called Cookie Box....it's a small bunny and includes everything needed to complete it. Was thinking of getting something like that as a Christmas gift for my 10 year old granddaughter but wanted to see how difficult it was. Took me 2 days to figure out how to do the so called magic ring to get started and am now on row 8 of the project. Had to rip it out and start over a couple of times but think I've finally figured it out. Might be too difficult for a 10 year old (although she may be better at it than me!).
Frost last night.0 -
You inspired me—got some Roma tomatoes and canned some pizza sauce today. Next up is strawberry jam.
I love crochet but haven’t tried making figures, just the usual hats, scarves and blankets and some flowers.
Had an evening walk—it is getting dark too early!0 -
You made me chuckle about the tomato sauce. Good for you making some....so much better than what you buy in the store.
Back to working on my crochet bunny a bit later today. Bagging up more tomato sauce this morning then should be good for a few more days before more tomatoes are ready. Doctor appt tomorrow morning...yearly check up and need to get blood work done and set up appt for mammogram.1 -
Ok so I made this thing called strawberry cocoa jam. It felt weird stirring the cocoa into the strawberries but it turned out well. Gonna have to dole it out in small doses to keep with the 1200 calorie program.
Hope to go to the public market tomorrow for more produce. I have so many empty mason jars!
I have to see if they want me to do blood work too. One thing at a time as we are getting our shots in a couple of days.0 -
Never heard of the strawberry cocoa jam but looked up and reviews are very good on it. Will be something I will try in the future but for now I'm sure I would over indulge so best to avoid.
Got a requisition for blood work which I will do next week and also have to call for my yearly mammogram.0 -
Today it was homemade sriracha sauce. It seems to be very powerful! A little will go a long way.
Trying to find canning recipes without much sugar content is challenging. I used to love making jam but hubby shouldn’t have it much. So I am making just a little for myself.
I read a book on plastic packaging and want to use my good old fashioned glass jars that can be reused for years even more now.0 -
I used to do a lot of canning but not anymore. Tomato sauce is still something I do a lot of as I use it quite often. Went through my tomatoes and lots of ripe ones again. Filled 3/4 of a 5 gallon pail so will get to that tomorrow. This will be my biggest batch. Bought a Ninja food processor a few months ago and finding it so good to use for my sauce. Can put in onions and frozen sweet peppers and it chops everything up quickly. No more tears from chopping a bunch of onions! I just pulse the peeled tomatoes a bit in the machine a few at a time and does a great job.
Windy today with lots of tree leaves flying around.0 -
Morning was a loss due to side effects of Covid/flu shots, but rallied enough in the afternoon for a nice walk. Used up the tomatoes with soup and roasted ones for the freezer. Still left with some dangerous jalapeños.
I am safeguarding my daughters Vitamix and after using it for processing vegetables she may have to fight me to get it back.0 -
Yesterday was a very sad day. Got a call from my nephew that my sister (77) had passed way suddenly. She had surgery for a hernia (stomach) a couple of months ago. I spoke to her last week and she was recovering very well. Said she had more energy, was able to get out on her own to do a bit of shopping, doing light housework, meals, etc.
Her husband found her collapsed in the house. Paramedics were not able to revive her. An autopsy has been performed but will probably take a couple of months before we are notified of results. I'm wondering if it was a blood clot....perhaps a pulmonary embolism. She was a type 2 diabetic and on a low dose of Ozempic. So sad for the entire family. Her husband is devastated as he has lost his life partner of 59 years.
There will not be a funeral as per her wishes but will be a celebration of life some time in the future. Friends and family will be able to gather and remember the wonderful shared moments we had with her. She will be missed.2
