Barbara - dependable solar is problematic for you and me both. One of these days when it's overcast, I'll hook up the EB3A to the solar panel and see how much juice it produces. I purchased this power station as a backup to power my laptop and/or tablet and phone in case of extended power outage and if I'm conservative, I can probably get a week's worth of recharging a couple devices.

For winter heat, our woodstoves are a good solution as long as we have dry wood and the stove and chimney are in good shape.

I got an email from Medicare yesterday with a preview of Part D - prescription drug plans. There seem to be several with small premiums. I think in-depth information on each plan will be forthcoming after Oct. 15th.

Lisa - years ago someone gave my mom a little cross-stitch that said something like "RETIREMENT: LESS MONEY, MORE HUSBAND." In her case it was kind of true, though as a farmer he never really retired, but he did cut back on how much he farmed, leasing a lot of the land to a neighbor. So he was around the house more. In my case, when my DH and I both retired, it was a LOT of closeness - much more than we were used to. :p

    Pip - Yogi makes a cute calendar pin-up :p

Annie - good to hear you got a lot of walking in on your vacation and you'll be doing some forest walking today.

Mo - what a crazy day for you yesterday. Glad your DH wasn't injured and that Rose wasn't hurt - hope the check was waiting for you at the PO this morning.

Rita - sorry you are feeling under the weather - those hot air balloons must be something to see!

About stretching: Since I've been doing daily calf and hamstring stretches over the past couple months, I can tell my hamstrings and calves aren't as tight as when I started, so even us old ladies can get improvement from staying with it. I wish there would have been a way for my 73 year-old self to convince my 53 year old self of that. In my case, walking was not enough to maintain overall leg flexibility, but I think walking was good to keep my quads in shape and burn some calories.

:) I'm sitting in the car outside the chiropractor's office. Annie is lying down in the back seat enjoying the music from my phone that's playing through the car speakers.

:)Heather I agree with you about decluttering by keeping only those things and activities that bring joy. For each of us the choices are personal. I find joy in my pets and walking in my neighbourhood and working in my yard but don't spend time with other people, shopping, travel or preparing meals or family gatherings.

:) Jake's birthday is tomorrow and his daughter sent him a generous gift card for Netflix. He is looking forward to watching some good stuff on TV.

:)Allie I hope the blood pressure meds can be fixed to give you more energy

Machka - we hoarded plastic bags here too, but we had a long transition period. Now we have the option of paper bags again, I do pay for them every couple of weeks, I use them to put my recyclables in until the bag is full then I just take it all out.

I go through my closet and get rid of clothes I didn’t wear in the Spring and the Fall, I have a very tiny closet space and if I wanted anything new I have to get rid of something.

Lisa - I love that wall hanging! Beautiful.

Annie - I need to find something motivation too.

Pip - Yogi should be the star every month. He’s so handsome.

Rita - I hope you can get some pictures of the balloons, one of my dreams is to go up in one.

I got asked tonight to keep Aspen Saturday night while her parents go to Friendsgiving at Kaitlyn and Brodey’s. I think this must be their 10th or 12th year of hosting this. I suggested that Michaela come spend the night here as well and then maybe Jonah and Chase can have a sleepover at Lauryn’s. If I had room I would take all 4 but I just need one more bedroom to do that, or summer when the boys could sleep in a tent.

I just watched Jimmy Fallon, Pharrell Williams was on it. I couldn’t name one of his songs but I really want to see his documentary called Piece by Piece. It’s a Lego movie/documentary! I love the concept of it.

    Well I’m off to bed

    Hello, my beautiful friends!
I have not felt like exercising; I just wanted to sleep after I dropped Rose off to play at doggie day camp. I was the second person to arrive at the Post office. The mail lady was going to mail the envelope to me. She passed me the envelope. Since I had time before the bank opened, I went to Kroger for groceries. Then, after filling out the deposit slip, I found out that our joint account, which I don't participate in, was closed. So, I returned to the post office and sent the check to Chicago in express mail. Then, I informed DH that our joint account was closed. Then he wanted to know why and if we owed any money. So, now I have to go back and ask tomorrow. I found myself shopping on Amazon for the little girl with the mom I told you about. I purchase some clothes for my trip as well. I learned today that the new jeans I bought from Stitch Fix were too big. I wonder if they can take them in. I loved those jeans because of the button-up front. It reminded me of the pair I wore in the 70's. They do not have a smaller size in that style anymore. I am worried about two kids. There was a little girl with red hair, and the doctor asked me to put a transpyloric tube in. She wasn't my patient, but the parents wanted someone with experience to put it in. So, I was able to get it in doing it my way, and the doctor was relieved. Peds ICU was too busy to do it. Denise, the charge nurse from the PICU, told them to have me do it. Denise has been trying to get me to transfer to ICU. It broke my heart when I found out this precious 10-year-old girl had a malignant tumor in her brain. I am glad they told me after the procedure. It is so hard cause the prognosis is poor. It is hard to let go sometimes when I am off. That is why I love seeing your healthy and happy grandchildren.

Hi Wendie! Where are you from? I understand the vice of eating when feeling stressed. I am trying to replace it with a creative outlet.

Lanette, I am so glad you got a new pair of shoes that work for you.

Carol, My garage is packed with so much crap. You are not alone. MIL's stuff is in there. My SIL will pick up what she wants. I still need to get rid of stuff that belongs to us.

Heather took pics of some of these dishes. I want to see the cuisine of London. I used to shop online at Bodin. My son loves the T-shirts there. I donated the shirts at the hospital, and they were given immediately. When you mentioned the name of that store, it brought back memories.

Rita, How are your fur babies? Great job on your weight loss.

Barbie, you are right; we must eliminate the clutter so our kids do not have to decide. Seeing his dirty movie collection when my dad died was gross, so I threw them all away. Then, there was a commotion outside of my house. Older adults were fighting over the movies. The fight was quite heated.

Kim, I hope you do a lot better at your next gig. $50.00 is not worth your time. I hope your roommate works out for you. I am glad that you have a reassessment in three months. Claus, I hope you have this agreement in writing. You know, squatters' rights and all. Queenie is so beautiful.

Debbie, is there a chance the gain was water weight?

Allie, great job on your weight loss as well. Your SIL is a piece of work.

Tracey, I am so happy for your Kaitlynn. I am empathetic when it comes to infertility treatment. I feel it has gotten so expensive. I had three attempts in the past. I am so glad the family could help her focus on getting pregnant. It brought tears to my eyes.
The Northern lights are beautiful. How often do they come?

    Have a fantastic night, everyone.

We went from the old lightweight plastic grocery bags ... to bigger, thicker plastic bags for a while ... to a choice between heavy-duty plastic bags or cloth bags ... and recently, they've started offering paper bags. I got rid of all the old lightweight plastic grocery bags (I think ... although there could be a few floating around somewhere). I got rid of a lot of the bigger, thicker plastic bags. And I try to remember to take the cloth bags when I shop in the city during my lunch breaks.

My husband uses the paper bags to put down as a weed mat.

Our new place has more closet space than our last place ... wonderful! But it could be a bit of a trap. :open_mouth:

I had a good day yesterday: 46 minutes on the bike and under calories! Yay! I was out of breath walking around Las Vegas, so that's motivation to get more fit.

I'm off walking in the forest this morning.

I'm glad you had a good time in Las Vegas and that you're getting out walking and riding. :)

I find walking around barefoot, and especially walking barefoot on sand, helps with stretching the feet.

I've probably told this story before ...

When I was getting my Bachelor of Education degree (I was in my early 40s), I took a "Learn to Teach Physical Education" class. The instructor was great ... one of my best instructors. She was an older (older than me at the time) British woman with tons of energy and enthusiasm.

The first thing she did was to tell us all to take off our shoes and socks and for the first half of the semester, we did the class barefoot.

Her reason was that people in the northern hemisphere in general, and Canadians in particular, spend large quantities of time in thick shoes and boots because of the extended wintery weather. Because of the footwear, right from childhood, we're taught to clomp flat footed which reduces the flexibility in our feet and tightens our Achilles tendons. Then, if we're women, we often end up squashing our feet into dress shoes with heels which shortens our Achilles tendons and further damages our feet.

By walking barefoot, we increase the flexibility of our feet and tendons, and build up the muscle in our feet. We also let our feet do what they should naturally do.

One thing I love about our new hardwood floors is how they feel under foot. I love walking on them barefoot. :)

Does Walking Barefoot Have Health Benefits?
    https://www.healthline.com/health/walking-barefoot

“The most straightforward benefit to barefoot walking is that in theory, walking barefoot more closely restores our ‘natural’ walking pattern, also known as our gait,” explains Dr. Jonathan Kaplan, foot and ankle specialist and orthopedic surgeon with Hoag Orthopaedic Institute.

    ...

Other benefits of walking barefoot include:

better control of your foot position when it strikes the ground
improvements in balance, proprioception, and body awareness, which can help with pain relief
better foot mechanics, which can lead to improved mechanics of the hips, knees, and core
maintaining appropriate range of motion in your foot and ankle joints as well as adequate strength and stability within your muscles and ligaments
relief from improperly fitting shoes, which may cause bunions, hammertoes, or other foot deformities
stronger leg muscles, which support the lower back region

(Of course the article offers precautions ... don't go hiking up a mountain in bare feet on your first go!)

    Good morning beautiful ladies!

Hugs to everyone touched by Milton. (((Michele))) Let us know how the condo makes out.

    Barbie happy birthday to Jake!

    Pip Yogi is a darling!

Thursday is my busy day. Dr appointment, Dad to his grief group, and horseback riding. And I need to do some billing paperwork too.

Time to turn off the TV. There's no point in being upset when I can't do anything. A guy I know is a traveling electric lineman, I hope he wasn't in the stadium that blew apart.

Have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Back to a normal routine. I really thrive on that. Though its nice to travel to other places, and visit, I do love home best. I think its also just living more simply. Last night as I was zipping all over my kitchen, grabbing this and that, knowing where everything was, it was such and easy preparation. The main thing I would give to someone wishing to downsize or declutter is that you can get to a point where 90% of your stuff "has it's home". You always put stuff back where it goes so you never have to hunt for anything. That's such a de stresser. Paring down so choices are limited is a nice thing too. I remember years ago looking in my kitchen drawer and counting 5 spatulas. Why do I have 5 spatulas??? So that started it all. I pretty much can open a drawer and the big items kitchen things are laid out like surgical equipment😂. It makes me happy. I know, I'm quite the odd bird.😁

Today is shopping day! I am buying cheeses, hummus, good hearty crackers, crab, turkey, bread, grapefruit, mushrooms, clover sprouts, baby potatoes, hard boiled eggs (I know silly, but I can't hardboil an egg to save my life!), pizza crusts, cottage cheese, bruschetta, and other treasures!
Of course Pellegrino water, and Fresca. My go to drink options.

I need to restock my plastic containers. Lee is great in microwaving whatever is stored in them so they get damaged! I'm like ew, like the heated food is embedded in the plastic! Husband you're kinda eating plastic there! Me? I just use it to store items but I would rather reheat it in a pot on the stove or on my plate with a paper towel.

This morning I skipped the gym. I know, I know I will start going next week. I promise! I decided to take a long hot shower, then I use a big fluffy towel, lie on it and give myself a massage with my jar of coconut oil. I really rub hard on my muscles and then just lie there until my skin literally drinks it in. Then do a brisk rub off of any excess with the towel I was laying on. I have to put it in the clothes basket because husband does not like me using his towel, lol, because it does end up with some coconut oil on it.
Weighed this morning and I didn't gain any with my dog sitting week. So, happy about that.😁👍🏼

Oh, my dear, wonderful Vicki, I am so sorry. It's an absolutely terrible feeling. I hope you get one heck of a retirement package out of that place! From my experience with Cisco, I can tell you that it took me two years to get my head around who I was and what I wanted next. I'm emotionally kind of bent, though, so I hope it's an easier and a shorter period for you. Three weeks is not much adjustment time.
