    I was away camping in the rain earlier this week, me, my daughter and granddaughter, and we are not hardy sorts haha but my granddaughter held up really well and we certainly had an adventure!

    Naturally (sigh) my weight rebounded while away, but at least I had lost my August vacation weight before camping, so pretty confident this will drop off quickly too and I can get back to where I was and maybe a pound or 2 more before leaving in my cruise.
    Hmm, might be bit of a tall order since there are only 9 days before our flight!

    Greetings to the long-timers here, and congratulations to @jaded989 specifically on hitting the normal BMI range!

    @BCLadybug888, camping with daughter and granddaughter sounds fun! Has your granddaughter camped before, or was this her first time? How old is she, if you don't mind my asking?

    Nothing really exciting going on in my life. I'm going through one of those periods where I know I'm over-eating, but so far not terrible impact. I need to rein things in, though, before bad things happen. I'm usually triggered when my jeans get snug, and in a couple of months I'll need the jeans to accommodate long underwear, so I see "motivation" in my future. :D

    Besides the regular rowing, I had another opportunity for a "functional fitness" workout, helping spread limestone gravel on the path at the boathouse. I think the raking part of it somewhat kicked up my recurring shoulder nerve impingement, unfortunately, so I skipped Saturday's coached row and coxed a boat for my friends instead. (The cox steers, so the rowers don't have to.) I think the extra rest day did help.

    I've been doing physical therapy for a different nearby problem, some movement limitations of my shoulder blade over my ribcage that sometimes relates to rib pain (minor thing), so I'll ask the therapist about this at next visit. I've had PT for the nerve impingement before, so can do some of those exercises, too.

    OK, I'll stop whining about trivia. Life is good, overall.

    I hope everyone else is doing well, enjoying life, crushing those goals. Let us know how you're doing?

    I had an appointment with an RMT (registered massage therapist) on Thursday and I feel like I could now audition to be a member of cirque de Soleil. Okay....maybe not. But my back is feeling great again ๐Ÿ™‚. I also ordered the Younger Next Year Back Book so my goal over the winter is to improve my core strength. I've been focussed on upper body the last couple of years and I think I've neglected my core. Just trying to own my part in this "healthy aging" adventure and control the things that I can control. The rest is out of my hands!

    @BCLadybug888 Congratulations on reaching the 50 pound mark. That's a big milestone! And is even more impressive given the amount of travelling that you do ๐Ÿ™‚

    I'm going to a Celebration of Life this afternoon for a friend who was an accomplished athlete, teacher, and volunteer in the community. She was a fellow dragon boater and loved the water. The COL is a casual bbq get-together at a lakeside park so, in her honour, a few of us are taking our kayaks and going for a paddle prior to the celebration. I think she would have liked that โค๏ธ

    I am down 50 lbs since joining MFP August 2021, and inched past the previous low weight achieved in 2022! I came so close, but never quite made it across the 50 goal line then.

    And I am only 2 lbs from getting into the next 'decade' but will be tough getting there because tomorrow I fly to NYC, cruise for a week and then visit the Big Apple for 6 days - fly back evening of 19th. Hopefully I won't be up too much upon my return and can swiftly see it to the door ( ๐Ÿ™ ) - I expect to do a tonne of walking while away, and that may offset some of the oh so many treats I may well indulge in! I have never been to NYC and will be hitting all the tourist spots I can.

    I will try to diarize my food and weigh daily, but we'll see how that goes lol ๐Ÿ˜…

    Hi, @BCLadybug888 - sounds like you have a lot of fun coming up!

    That walking will burn calories, and I know you know to eat lightly when the food is routine, and indulge more in the special things.

    I'm sure you also know - though others new here may not, which is why I'm bringing it up - that special times like this tend to add some water weight. Unusual eating patterns, maybe some unusual activities (like more walking than we usually do), and especially airline flights or long drives . . . oh, man, the temporary water retention! The scale can jump up quite a few pounds. To the extent that it's water retention, not fat, we know it's going to drop off in a couple/few weeks without doing anything special, so no point in worrying until we get past that reasonable time horizon.

    The actual fat-gain "damage" we can do in a week or two tends to be pretty minor in the big picture, compared to the impact of routine day-in, day-out habits . . . but that post-trip scale jump (mostly from water weight gains) has the potential to rattle a person, for sure.

    Your trip sounds great, very fun: Give us a report when you get back, if you feel up to it (including reporting the treats!).

    Congratulations @BCLadybug888 I agree with what @AnnPT77 said about your trip coming up.May I suggest checking out "half size me" on YouTube playlist on eating during vacation? It has some good insights. Sorry I've been MIA lately, been very busy & tired while having new floor put down. We've had that carpet for 20years & it was awful! Husband & I didn't do the actual work but I had to move things around every day & clean some things. Husband couldn't help at all because he started getting pain in his leg about 3-4 weeks ago. He finally went to his Dr & found out he has arthritis in that leg/knee so he's been using some cream on it, it's better in the last couple days.

    @BCLadybug888, @ridiculous59: I like your positive attitudes! I was gone for 3 months at a remote off grid bush camp, with people who mostly eat meat, fatty foods and very little vegetables or grains. Of course all delicious, salty and lots of fat. My goal was to maintain. I was thrilled when I got home to step on my scale and see that I was successful! I did indulge in a few meals at restaurants when we got back to the land of restaurants, fast foods, and grocery store temptations. I am back in focus again, and continuing on! I'm at the lowest weight I've been in years, and enjoying going through my overabundance of clothes to see what fits again, and donate things that are too big now. I hope the BodySlims program is a good fit for you, and also agree that we do learn something new to add to our toolboxes as we move along towards healthier goals!

    I'm baaack- as promised, but no photos lol.
    I am really enjoying the BodySlims program, almost 3 weeks in and down 10 lbs - which I think is really great as I had already been actively losing immediately prior to starting it. I am also feeling so much more fit, and balance has improved, for which I credit tge daily 60 minute walk (all in one go); it actually took me 1 week to work up from 30 to 60, but I made it!
    The most important feature though are the seminars and daily videos to help us get (and kerp) our heads in the game and making good long-term choices with goals in mind, vs giving in to what may give pleasure or be easier in the moment but dies not move the needle in the direction you really want to go in.

    So just the component I have been missing really and it certainly gives you food for thought lol ๐Ÿ˜†. It definitely has me looking forward to giving it my best shot, and feeling excited and hopeful as to what I can accomplish ๐Ÿ˜Š

    I will certainly let y'all know how my progress continues (or not) and whatever is the end result.

    @AnnPT77 I hope you enjoyed your dragon boat race! The beauty of the sport is that even if a team isn't physically strong, as long as their timing is dead-on, they can still see some success. The flip-side is that I've been in boats with males who have never paddled before and had some success at "fun" regattas, due entirely to their brute strength. But to be winners at any kind of a significant level, you need a team with physical strength and perfect timing. Definitely a dream of mine haha

    @BCLadybug888 I'm so glad you are doing well with this new program. Especially the walking! Sometimes we need a re-set to get us going again. Good job!

    I've had such a busy summer, at times almost chaotic, and I'm so ready to hunker down for the cooler weather. We had a great visit with our sons for Thanksgiving (Canadian) and that's our last trip of the year in the RV. It's sleeting today so definitely time to winterize it. Now I can get back into a routine, both exercise and eating, and look forward to some positive results.

    @ridiculous59, yes, synchronization of the bodies: Important in dragon boating equally important in rowing multi-person rowing shells. Also similar is that idea that technique can beat strength, in certain scenarios. In the photo I shared of my dragon boat team, we are . . . ;) . . . approximate. :D

    A local team that routinely practices in their own boat also raced, and I believe they were mostly women (maybe a couple men?). They finished top 3, despite having a much higher average age than most of the teams competing, in addition to being a mostly-women group. They have technique! They were beaten by a less-skilled team from a local fitness club, more even male/female numbers, all strong/fit, younger. While the fitness club team were less practiced, I wouldn't diss their athletic ability, including body awareness that helped them be relatively more effective technically than some other teams with the same amount of pre-race prep but less athletic experience.

    Rowing or dragon boating, the true formula is strength plus technique (including synchronization/timing) plus conditioning. I'm (I hope?) a much better rower than dragon boater, and other than some mild contribution from general athleticism and cardiovascular conditioning, there's not much overlap between the two. Ditto for dragon boating vs. canoeing or kayaking. Dragon boating looks a little like canoeing, but as a long-time flatwater canoeist in the past . . . dragon boating technique and canoeing technique are emphatically not the same. All good stuff, though - and good fun.

    I've been silent for a while due to house reno but the reno has been done for over a week & there's been so much work on me & husbands part to put furniture back,and on my part to decide what non furniture things not to put back & clean up plus I'm in the 5% challenge on here & it was all I could do to keep up with that.@AnnPT77 I loved the rowing machine at the gym, I envy you but unfortunately I gave up my membership because my leg problem has been on going & there's nothing I could do there involving my legs & I can do strength training at home with videos. I still walk every day with my dogs 2-3 miles & will do that as long as i'm able which I hope will be for the rest of my life. I loved going to the gym. It's about 3 block away & I've been going there for about 30 years :'( There is a year round pool but I don't want to pay $30/month just to use the pool. @BCLadybug888 good to hear you're doing so well

    This week the coach asked us to put the weight we have lost so far divided into 2 shopping bags and carry them around for 30 minutes per day; I used plastic water bottles and my goodness it is sobering to think about carrying that weight again, 24/7, upstairs and on walks and even getting in & out of the car!

    After I lost over 30 pounds, I put on one of my SCUBA weight belts. It was "only" eight pounds. It's a soft weight belt, so it's neoprene pouches filled with little lead shot. I went for a walk. I could feel it in my knees. I thought, wow - I used to carry four of these around with me everywhere. Just wow. Way to go getting towards your goal!
