I like walking so I think the treadmill will serve me well during the long winter months. I wish there was a swimming facility in my area but there isn’t.

We have a Y close by. But I would much rather swim in a lake. Not feasible for a while I guess.

Ordered my treadmill. They will deliver and set up. Will be putting it in the basement. Hopefully it will come next week.

Nice sunny day today. Off to the dump tomorrow with household garbage as we still can't use our burning barrel due to dry conditions. Will take another couple of bags from my decluttering of the basement too. Slowly getting rid of stuff.

Hope the treadmill is a success!
Tried the Y pool today. I need to build up my swimming muscles.
Also took a nice long walk while waiting for a car repair.

Well done on the exercise front! I need to move more.

Off to the dump with my bags this morning. Have a couple of items to put in the donation building also. Feels good to get rid of unwanted things. Stopping at our local restaurant for lunch....will be mindful of my choice as I don't want too many calories. Just had a light breakfast of a small bowl of cereal, banana and coffee so think I will make out ok. Would prefer just to come home but hubby wants to eat out. Think it's more of a social thing as he likes to chat with other patrons.

    You sure are decluttering!
I would love to go out to eat but trying to lose the weight I gained while with family. Went on my first bike ride in two months. Trying to practice self care but I am pretty despondent about the state of the world and my emotions are on a rollercoaster.
Cleaning food cabinets and reorganizing things. Trying to take my mind off things.

So true about the state of the world. I read the news daily and stay up to date on current events but I have to admit that I don't let my emotions come into play as I know that there isn't anything I can do.

My decluttering is my basement which is unfinished and has simply been a place to put unwanted, unused items. This is a habit that has been going on for years and I have finally come to the point that it is unacceptable and needs to be dealt with.

No drop on the scale so patiently waiting for that to happen. Trying to stop drinking diet pepsi and have switched to herbal teas. Just got a couple of different brands/blends from amazon and had one yesterday. It is from Harney & Sons called hot cinnamon sunset. Very nice flavor and taste is slightly sweet. Like that it has no added sugar so should be a healthier alternative. The other brand is one called Handpick and has a selection of different blends. Will try one this afternoon

oceanmelody Thank you for your posts. Looks like it's only the two of us again on here but I enjoy reading what you are up to and how your day is going. I'm sure you will find keeping busy will help with your emotions. Enjoy the day.

Survived the move. Even though I got rid of tons of stuff including several whole rooms of furniture, we still kept way too much. We can barely walk in here! I hadnt finished packing when the movers came so have spent the last two days continuing to pack things and ferry them over to the townhouse. Let me tell you, I have a long long way to go before I can call myself a minimalist! There will be much purging done as we unpack. Tomorrow I will clean our old house and make it sparkle for the new family. I hope they love it as much as we did.

For the last two weeks we have eaten nothing but take out. I can hardly wait to get the kitchen set up and put decent meals on the table again. Then I will start tracking calories again. Pondering what to make first….Greek Chicken, pot roast in the crockpot with veggies, big pot of chili??? Something about cool weather makes me want to cook? Tell me what you would make if you had been doing fast food gor two weeks.

I love food, but after a while with someone else’s cooking I really like easing back in and enjoying simple things, like tea and toast in my own house. Then after a week or so I get more ambitious. Today I tried to make sauerkraut just to see what happens. If it doesn’t work out I am only out less than 2 dollars of cabbage and a carrot.
Fall is a good time for sauces and soups.
Scale just boomeranging—walked an hour and a half today and it probably won’t have much effect but at least my endurance seems better.
I never drank much soda, but love my tea and coffee. Switched to Stevia for the tea recently.

Tried another herbal tea variety...spearmint from Handpick. Did not care for it. I purchased a variety pack from Handpick brand so hoping the next will be to my liking. Have never used any sweetener in my coffee or tea. Just add a little milk. With the herbal tea, I don't add anything.

Will be interesting to see how your sauerkraut turns out. That is something I have never made. Have made pickles, relish and chutneys though. This year was not able to do any of that as cucumbers were few and far between.

Lifetime tea drinker here. My Mama used to put sweet tea in our baby bottles. I think this was a southern thing. Now I drink unsweetened, hot or iced. I do add a dollop of cream to hot tea. I know this is bad but can’t break it. I like a classic black tea and my favorite is Yorkshire gold. I have never found an herbal tea that I like, but admit that cinnamon one you described tempts me.

My go to tea is English Breakfast. No milk in tea since I was a child. But coffee needs everything.
Herbals don’t need anything except honey (only when sick). Never was fond of mint tea, but Lemon Zinger and Red Zinger types are nice. And caffeine teas like Darjeeling and Jasmine.

Will definitely be looking for the Yorkshire Gold brand. Thank you for mentioning. Enjoying my cup of afternoon tea. Went back to the cinnamon one. Will check out the lemon and red zinger types too.

Poor hubby had a flare up of eczema yesterday. This was a severe one covering his chest and back totally. He hasn’t had an episode in years and never this bad. Lucky I had a couple of different eczema creams in the cupboard that seemed to help. Went into the local drugstore and asked pharmacist for recommendations. He was very unhelpful and only pointed out a small tube of cream. Put a call into dr’s office and waiting for them to call back. Need to get a supply of prescription meds in case of another flare up. Took a pic of the flare up to show dr as I’m pretty sure by the time he gets appt it will be cleared up.

    Good luck with hubby’s health!
Made yogurt and granola today. Went on a two hour walk. Still reorganizing kitchen. Hubby may be coming down with something.
    Sunny but cool here today.

I had to give my yogurt maker to my daughter. I went from a very large kitchen with a big pantry to a tiny little kitchen with limited space. I can use a glass jar and a heating pad now if I ever find them in unpacking 😂. I unloaded all the big appliances except for a stand mixer, breadmaker, crockpot and Vitamix. And it is a real challenge to find space for those! I am determined to get rid of lots mose stuff as I unpack. I am looking forward to being a minimalist instead of a hoarder.

I admire your commitment to exercise. I look forward to long walks when I get done unpacking and have the house set up. I still need to get my other knee replaced, but can’t face doing that again quite yet. Hoping Advil will make walks bearable.

oceanmelody Good on the walking. Still waiting for my treadmill to be delivered. Will give them a call next week if I haven't heard from them. May have to cancel order if they keep dragging their feet.

Hubby is getting better and just feeling a bit itchy now. Cream seems to help. Ordered some more from amazon but it seems to be stalled somewhere in delivery. Postal strike may happen tomorrow so not sure what impact that will have on our rural area.

Have never made yoghurt...might be something I should look into. Made a loaf of whole wheat bread yesterday in my breadmaker and decided to add 1/4 cup of sunnyboy cereal to it. Turned out really good.

titus2cat Sorry to hear about your knee pain. I'm sure it a challenge to deal with. Good luck on your unpacking!

Thank you. Knee is doing great with pain patches today.
I have never heard of Sunnyboy cereal before. Homemade bread is so delicious. I would never think of adding cereal. What is in Sunnyboy?

    Joy1580vb Posts: 437 Member
Sunnyboy is high in fibre and also good source for omega 3 so a healthy breakfast choice cereal. I'm trying to add a bit more nutrition to my whole wheat bread and I think by adding some grains, it is making it more of a multi grain bread. The grains in Sunnyboy are wheat, rye and flax seed. There are a few bread recipes that call for 5 grain cereal so now I know I can simply add it to my bread recipe, I may look at other cereal options when I finish this container of Sunnyboy as I am only adding rye and flax. I checked out the 5 grain cereal and it contains oats, rye, triticale, barley and flax.

Called about my treadmill and they have me down for delivery on Wednesday. Hopefully that happens. I'm still able to walk outside but don't want to be doing that once we get freezing rain or a heavy snowfall. Had a little skiff of snow last night but still pleasant out.

Hi +70 group. I've been lurking here for a week and am ready to take the plunge. The weather here is in the middle 60s and not a cloud in the sky. This is a treat for me since I live in the southern US. I took a walk this morning and went to my aerobic swim class afterwards.

Joy180vb Hope your treadmill is delivered early next week. I waited for my recumbent bike for two weeks last May. I sure understand!

Titus2cat Downsizing is a lot of work. It will be great to get settled into your new home and know exactly what you have and where it is.

Oceanmelody I enjoyed reading about the types of tea that you drink. I am a tea drinker as well. Every evening I have a big mug of Red Rose black tea with a little milk and some stevia. Yum!

Wishing everyone a great low cal weekend.

hipper502 Welcome to our little group!

I’m looking forward to my treadmill. I live in Alberta, Canada and winters can pose a challenge to exercise outside. Hoping that the treadmill helps with my weight loss and gets me moving more.

    Welcome, hipper502!
Had naan pizza tonight. An easy meal. Did a recipe where you heat the naan on the oven grates for a few minutes before transferring to sheets and adding the toppings, then bake some more. It seemed to work. Very quick.
Two hour walk today. Saw my second bald eagle in less than two weeks! Had not seen any for a couple of years.
Hope the treadmill plan works well. I wonder if Sunny boy is a Canadian thing? Sounds good.

    Hey hipper502,
My new home is walking distance of the town aquatic center. If I ever get unpacked and settled, I hope to start water aerobics. The pool is heated to 85 degrees and i always freeze in there. I am thinking of buying a short wetsuit to wear.

My new approach to unpacking kitchen boxes is to find items to donate in the crammed full cabinets and replace them with items from the unpacked boxes that I need to keep. This is working pretty well. I am finding that I can in fact live without some things I thought I couldnt live without.
Keeping the breadmaker even though it is big and clunky and takes up a lot of space. Homemade bread is so worth it!!! If I ever find my flour canister, I plan to make some.😂

I used to live in northern Ontario. I have somewhat of an idea of your winters. Keeping my fingers crossed that it comes shortly.

I really enjoy my water aerobics class and participate year round. It's my main form of exercise. Hopefully they have a sitting are where you can have a cup of coffee and chat after class.

We have been living in our house for almost 40 years and have accumulated a lot. I'm trying to declutter even though it's a major undertaking. Homemade bread sounds delicious. I haven't made some in quite a while.

Yes, go when you can. I feel like a kid again doing jumping jacks and cross country moves in the water, all without hurting your joints.

I always feel more like a kid when I am swimming.
    I enjoy making bread too.
I’ve been cleaning kitchen cabinets and moving food off the high up shelves—tired of standing on tippy toe! Trying to envision what I might want for new cabinets.
Another walk in the sunshine and coolness along the Erie Canal.

Enjoyed some Sunny Boy cereal for my breakfast this morning. Haven't had that for quite sometime but since I bought a package for my bread making, thought I would. Sunny Boy is a Canadian brand and actually have their processing facility in Alberta (Sunny Boy Foods). Have dealt with them in the past as they have purchased organic barley and wheat from us.

Those who have an aquatic facility in your area are so fortunate. If I had, I would certainly be taking advantage of it.

Scale is still just bouncing around and I am patiently waiting for it to register into the 170's. Getting so close. Have stopped having an evening snack and just sticking to my 3 meals/day along with my cup of herbal tea in the afternoon. Slowly working through my variety pack of herbal teas and so far the only ones I like are the cinnamon and the peppermint ones. I have come to realize that there are a lot of awful tasting herbal teas out there!

Scale bouncing up and down here too. So frustrating!
Another walk in the woods today. Some parts were brand new trails with good bridges over swampy areas. Will definitely go there again.
I agree there are a lot of herbal teas that “are not my cup of tea.”

Big big surprise-I am down half a pound.
Dont ask me how. We closed our kitchen two weeks before the move so the las 3 1/2 weeks have been fast food and take out. Has to be burning calories with all the hard work.

Good on the 1/2 pound down! I think a lot has to do with movement.

Our poor dog (border collie/lab) had a seizure last night. I'm recording them as may have to make adjustment on his seizure meds. He's been on the same dose for about 7 years and only the last few months has started having problems again.

Off for groceries this afternoon. Told hubby I wanted to go after lunch so we don't have to stop for something to eat. It's a 2 hour trip. He agreed so happy about that.

Have been doing quite a bit of reading on my kobo with library books. Just started a book by Ken Follett called Fall of Giants and finding it very good. Haven't read any of his books but think I'll be looking for more of his in the future. One problem with our small library is that popular new releases are a long wait to get. I have one that I placed a hold on...I was 500+ on the wait list and it is now down to 300+. Have to be patient.
