Good afternoon dear ladies,
The Christmas party went well last evening. My DDIL was there and 2 of my granddaughters. I tried posting a picture from my phone. Hope it worked.
Rebecca--Great pictures of you and your sisters. You can tell you are related. Glad your son and family were able to come.

SophieRosieMom wrote: »Heather - very good article. That arrangement sounds ideal. A special friendship, someone to care about and vice versa without the laundry, daily cooking requirements, constant exposure to irritating habits like the TV on all the time, etc. I thought about this yesterday, so your posting this article was timely. Glad your printer is working again.
Tracey - love those cards. What a great feeling being immersed in a hobby or craft so intently the rest of the world disappears.
Carol - your husband is doing a great job losing weight. Happy Birthday to him.
Rebecca - great photos of you and your sisters! Super smiles! You have wonderful genes - all three of you are just beautiful and look to me like you are in your 40's. Athena and Eli are getting so big- I'm happy you got to see them. Sorry about the ouchie on your hand. Glad the train works to get you to Oregon and back.
Pip - good for you "rehoming" cookware and the shark vacuum. I don't have the patience to deal with buyers so things just get donated. When we had sheep, we dealt with many potential buyers who were "on their way" but never showed up as we waited all day for their arrival. Postponing meals, not starting projects, etc. Aggravating and that's one of the reasons we switched from Shetland sheep with their beautiful colored wool to white fleeced crossbred market lambs. We could load them in the truck when WE were ready and haul them off to the auction.
Kylia - When I was working, I had every time saving appliance I could buy. If IP's and air fryers had been available back then, I'd have gotten them. Now that I'm retired and just cooking for myself, I'm back to "slow cooking." There's still a part of my brain, though, that thought the IP and air fryer would be good to have "just in case." No room in my kitchen cupboards for them (my kitchen is actually pretty small) and out in the garage, they are out of sight, out of mind. But not used. So I'll find homes for them. I use my crockpot and the egg cooker at least once a week.
The little woodstove did a great job warming up the living room yesterday. I got down on the floor and back up at least 20 times. I don't have much firewood in the shed so I need to save what's left for very cold or "power out" events. DH and I always had a woodstove for heat ever since we moved out here to WA State, mostly for saving on the power bill and for backup in case of power outage. Plus there was a lot of firewood available and he loved to split and stack it. I have a darn good technique for starting the fire if I do say so myself.
I made great headway on Christmas cards yesterday. I think I was energized with everything spread out on the dining room table and the sun shining in.

My patience is short. If they don’t come, I’m like next! I have them pick up at my place, I’m not going to waste my gas and meet them somewhere. I tell them when I’m ready, not them. On 3 things we’ve made $265.
150 for a grill, 50 for the vacuum, 15 for the cooker. I do clean everything up so it’s ready for them to use too.7 -

Mo – I forgot to bookmark Dec and had to go back to MFP’s homepage. Fortunately, this thread goes so fast that it was on the first page. What part of FL are you going to? How long will you be there? Will we hear from you while you’re down there?
Rebecca – I had never heard of levske so I looked it up. They look really good. How do you eat them? Put a filling in them? What kind?
The only thing I didn’t like about an air fryer is that it’s so big. So I solved that problem by getting the air fryer lid for the IP
Oh yes, I use my IP all the time for yogurt. As a matter of fact, I have 2 IP's at home and one down at the condo
Kylia – I don’t like things on my counter, either. Let’s see...I have a cake dish (covered), measuring cups (only because I use them so much), cups of water, spoon rest, paper towel holder, telephone, google nest, and a charging station. I very seldom use my crockpot. They say you can use the IP as a crockpot, but all the reviews I’ve read says that it isn’t as good as a regular crockpot
Went to the podiatrist today. He put this stuff on the “callous” which is supposed to kill whatever it is that’s causing the pain. Let me tell you, it burns like h***. But I’ve also found that my heel doesn’t hurt nearly as much. Which makes sense. Because I didn’t want to put pressure on the “thing”, I was unconsciously putting the weight on my heel when I walked. Now I’m not. He also put a pad on it and I’m supposed to remove it in 24 hours. I do have an appt with him in 2 more weeks. This not exercising really s***s. But I am planning to go to the gym tomorrow to do some HIIT then go in the water. In the afternoon I go for my shot of Prolia.
Rebecca – add me to the ones who are so happy for your TG. Everything everyone else said
Carol – happy birthday to your hubby
I find it funny in a way. If Vince was going thru this burning, there is no way he would have gone to ceramics tonight. I went. If I can go thru childbirth, this is a walk in the park. I tell you, if they want 0 population growth have men have babies.
Had my boob squeeze today, then went to the Salvation Army (found quite a few things), an outlet store for bread, then the podiatrist. On the way home stopped at Publix to get the cheese for the pierogi for Christmas. This is the only store I can get it at. Wrote out all my Christmas cards (well, almost all of them) the other day and mailed most of them.
Margaret – awesome decorations
Have the ceramic christmas party on Sat. I am going to make sausage cheese balls. Vince wants me to make something he likes so I told him he has to go to Sam’s with me to pick it out. Otherwise I’m not making it.
Jess called. She’s supposed to go to PAX (gaming) this weekend so I told her she could bring the animals here if she couldn’t find anyone to take care of the dog. Hope I can at least take it for a walk because I know Vince won’t. She said she might take me up on the offer because the one person she asked hasn’t gotten back to her.
Put my Miss Piggy in to be fired. The gal who runs the ceramics said that she was going to fire my plate for Colby and I should probably have it Sat.
Plan to stop at Food Lion tomorrow to get soda for Vince and go to Domino's to get a pizza box to put the plate in.
When I spoke to one lady in the train club because she does quilting and I needed to find someone to embroider the animal’s names on stockings, she said that the train club’s Christmas party was Sunday. Only so far Vince hasn’t heard anything about it. Maybe they canceled it? Not like it's a real big deal, I'd rather eat healthily at home anyway.

Dealing with some stress from multiple areas...husband got a call for the final interview round tomorrow, and it would probably mean that he'd stay overnight in that area a few nights during the week, as it would be a 2 hour commute each way. And I'm waiting to see what my company does...I might be one of the employees given to another during a sale of one of the divisions. (I really want to retire from where I am working now.) And my dr told me today that she wants me to get a biopsy to rule out the big C. It wasn't even on my radar. Now I get to stress for a week (appt set for next Monday), plus however long the test results take to come back. (And no, I haven't told my husband, as I don't want to throw off his interview.)
So far, I haven't eaten or drank anything crazy to cope. I'm within my calorie range...just haven't hit 100g protein for the last few days. Ordering a few things to try to increase that a bit starting tomorrow.
Deep breath.

Heather - I don’t know why they make them so difficult.
I hate being cold too. I also wolf down my food too fast because I hate it if it starts to get cold.
I know someone who has been happily married for 43 years, 29 of them living in separate houses but very near one another. It has saved their marriage.
Carol - happy birthday to your husband.
Machka - I really like your tree. Out of curiosity, do they have spruce and fir trees there if you wanted?
Pip - I’m like you, pick up at my place if you don’t show I move along.
I also have a husband here, if it was me alone I probably wouldn’t be so free with strangers coming to my house.
It was decorating day at the home today. The rec team always seems to get stuck doing the majority of the work with that. I did go spend an hour and a half helping decorate one tree.
The ladies said that by the time they do all the trees and decorating they are done with it and don’t want to do their own at home.
If it was me I would do home first.
I finished one more card tonight and have the pieces cut for another one. I stopped earlier this evening so I could relax a bit. I may not do any tomorrow evening, so I get a break sometime before Sunday.
I heard from my Mom’s nursing home today. I had asked what she could use for Christmas. They gave me her usual list. I just need to get it ordered. I usually buy the flat rate postal box and send it off, but will have to do Amazon this year.
Well off to bed

Annie: Just think about how much your dad would enjoy it if you put up the Christmas tree. It doesn’t have to be much, just a few decorations.
Machka: You are such a busy lady. It makes me tired sometimes just reading what you do. I think I will have to make stretching a priority. I’m getting far too many aches and pains. Congrats on the successful cycling event.
I am slowly writing my memoirs for the family. I often use the microphone feature on my tablet. You do have to proofread and correct but it’s quicker than typing.

It was lovely to go out together last night. We so rarely get out in the evening, especially in the winter, but we were out already at my son's, so we seized the opportunity. By the time I'd climbed all the steps of the railway bridge, stopped off at the brewery for half a pint, and walked down two more long streets, plus walking back from the bus stop, I reckon that was another mile to add to the school pick up mile! So two miles! The most I've walked in a year.
This morning my legs are soooo stiff, especially my calves, but my knee isn't any worse.
We spent the time in the restaurant reminiscing about the rented cottage in the countryside, that we lived in for six months, about fourteen years ago. Doesn't seem that long ago! Lovely meal, as usual, and I braved a small glass of red wine, with lots of water. It's three months now since my last UTI.
This morning I 'debobbled' my long black cardigan with my rechargeable debobbler. If you haven't got one of those gadgets, get one. It makes so much difference to an old knit. Looks like new.
Might get started on my cards today, now I've got my round robins. At least I've only got to sign them, not write an epistle.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -

Pip - good job getting the $$ for things you were selling. As Tracey alluded - without a man in the house, having strangers come to my door would be iffy for me. There were vehicle break-ins two nights ago on a street just down the road. Everyone on that block with a vehicle parked on the street got hit. I had a scammer at the door this summer despite the "beware of dog" and "no solicitors" signs. They are getting braver here in the country these days. Glad Rosie sets up a fuss.
Now, after that bit of concerning news, here's something exciting. The power of smiling.
Ron Gutman wrote the book "SMILE - The Astonishing Powers of a Simple Act." (I just started it, and it's very good.) And he also has a TED talk - he mentions that the act of smiling releases endorphins equivalent to eating a lot of chocolate. Maybe this is a way to counter our sugar and snacking addiction? Who knows? I'm just throwing it out here.
Anyhow, this is 7 1/2 minutes long.
Allie - your sharing of SMiles for the past few years and his great grin has kept us smiling. Maybe that's why enjoy seeing his photos so much (and all of the smiling photos you ladies post!)

Tracey that's a lovely card!
Jennifer in CT so hard to wait for biopsy results. Hugs to you!
Another cold day here. I cancelled my early Wednesday walksfor the rest of the year. Too cold, too dark, too early and too busy. But now I miss the friendship.
Have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Good morning, beautiful ladies;
Rose got me up this morning at 6:00 a.m. I honestly was up 5 minutes before her. I was reading, and I wondered if she sensed I was up. When DH is with me, he is up and about by then and gets the dog out. I miss reading for extended periods in the morning. It seems like the days are going by faster. This week, I have been horrible about my exercise goal. My sleeping has been terrible. I am sleepy at work. I decided to go to bed when I was tired, but DH woke me up to let me know that he made it safely to, I believe, Colorado. I was going to make breakfast, but I remembered I had an appointment with the doctor. I realized the tree that came in was DS, not my mom's. I have to pick hers up.
I put together the lamp for DS's room and could see what a mess it was. I must wash his rugs, sweep, clean, and dust. I need to organize his dresser and clean his closet, but he said he would work on it when he gets home. Relief because I had to tackle my closet and locate my shoes and favorite yoga pants. My donate pile got bigger; I will load it in a garbage bag and drop it off at the thrift store after my appointment. I should write down my concerns, too. I always forget to voice them when I am face to face.
I will take Rose to day Camp so I can get things done. I also need to order some pants from Lands End today. Here is to getting things done, including exercise. I miss walking this week. I am working tomorrow because I need Saturday off for a Baby Shower. I need to work on packing for my trip, too. I took a pic of my next project, but it may need to wait. We will see. I am down 3 pounds.
Allie, SMiles' recent pic made me laugh out loud. So, you are providing positive therapy for us.
Lanette, your smile video is very insightful, and smiling makes others smile.
Heather, I printed and discussed that article about couples who are emotionally together but physically apart from DH. Still, I didn't tell him this arrangement has been like a reset for me. I am sad that he is thinking about selling our timeshare. We paid for that with my inheritance. If it were for Julia, I would put my foot down. I hate to say it, but this physical separation has made me happy. I can do whatever I want, but I am able to connect with him daily. I needed this article to understand why I feel this way.
Vicki, I am so glad to hear from you. Maybe you can use your skills to start your own business. For example, if you love to organize, you can go to a client's house and organize their office, pantry, and whatever else.
If you are great at office management, sell yourself on Linked In—just a thought for next year.
I better go and get ready. Have a great day, ladies, and I will check in later.
XO,
Mo is in Mississippi, where it is colder than I had planned.

Morning, kiddos, hope you're having a grand morning,
Egg's asleep on my lap, she likes the little portable heater I keep going in my workroom to keep my feet warm in the winter. Corey's still asleep in bed - he has a dental appointment at 11 this morning, and needed to burn another day of vacation or lose it at the end of the year. He'll be taking time off around Christmas as well.
Good day for it - supposed to be warm and sunny this afternoon, then back to winter-cold tomorrow. He plans to get enough wood up from the woodshed so I can keep a fire going when he's back at work the next couple days. That tree we had cut down a year ago has seasoned now, and burns nicely. He's got a lot of it chopped--lots more to go, and like your DH, Lanette, really enjoys doing that.
I got the one afghan finished yesterday for my nephew:
That's Corey behind it - it's for a six-foot-plus guy, so I couldn't even hold it up high enough to get it completely off the floor! 🙀😽😂 Can't put it up on Facebook yet, as I'm friends with both of them on there.
I've started on one of a very similar design for his wife, but made with black and purple, her favorite colors. When I'm done with hers, that will be it for promised crocheted pieces, as I finished the one for Corey this year as well. My daughter has started crocheting for her family, so am passing on the torch. Might send my extra yarn in her next care package.
Jennifer in CT - Having that many uncertainties at once is terribly hard on our sense of balance in our lives, especially when none of the outcomes are in our complete control. Many good thoughts for the best possible endings for all three of them. Come talk to us whenever you need to get something off your chest. Many of us have waited anxiously on test results, waited for our DH's interview processes, and waited for business decisions that impacted our future greatly. You're in good company. Well done for sticking with your own path calorie-wise in the midst of what must feel like chaos.
Tracey in Edmonton- Oh my stars, that card is sooooo beautiful. You are a gifted maker, dear heart.
Karen in BC ( @defiant63 )- Welcome! Glad to have you here.
Vicki in NE - You did successfully post a pic from your phone, so good to see your face! You and your DDIL show a quite startling family resemblance, and you all look lovely.
Lanette - I learned the power of smiling in my years working for Lockheed Martin, where I forced myself to smile every time I walked out my office door, and again every time anyone came in my office. At my previous job, I had struggled with depression for two years after my mother's death, and it carried through to struggling with my work relationships the entire time. Smiling whether I felt like it or not genuinely changed my entire working life.
Heather - Good advice, for sure. Sounds like you and John had a lovely evening out. Sounds like you're getting a little further every time.
Mo - Distance always gives perspective in a relationship. However, it's not always the perspective you thought you'd get, I'm afraid. I realized afterward that I got my flight attendant job as a training ground for living without my husband. After about eight months of traveling three to five days a week, I realized I could live without him. Easily. And well. So I did. Got the job in October, left him the following May. That was 17 years ago.🤷🏻♀️ Worked out for me, not so much for him.
OK - off to the races, kids. Not that there are races, but I do have to go potty.
Love y'all!

Hey Pals!
My good news for the week is that my 2 day telework agreement was approved. That means that I only have to drive to and from work 3 days per week! The highway traffic is wrecking my nerves to the point that I need a drink when I get home. Am I driving slower or carefully than I did in younger years – YES! The whip-in-and-out-90 to 100 mph rush hour drivers are taking me to the brink of sanity.
I’m having a hard time getting into the holiday spirit. Last year we had 4 children and their significant others, 4 grandchildren and their significant others, 4 great grandchildren, 1 sister, and my mom at our house for a Christmas Eve celebration. I went into the hospital the next day. So Rafiq has forbidden me from planning any Christmas activities this year. I’m not sure if we will even have a tree because we have always had live trees and they think I am allergic to the fragrance. I guess this weekend I’ll see if pulling through my holiday decorations will help.
Michele NC – We have a couple of azaleas that need replacing. Did your landscaper replace them in the fall? How long are you supposed to water them?
Heather – Rafiq is like Rodger, he wants lots of presents under the tree and is having fits about what to do about a tree. I am on the one present for each. I have compromised by setting aside $100 for a major gift for him under the tree and then using $100 split on multiple little gifts. I do spend a lot of time on wrapping so they are beautiful under the tree. The little gifts are usually things like socks, underwear, clothing, etc. that he is in need of throughout the year..
OMG - Heather! My mom (91) has had a kind of special friend for the last 10 years or so. I would too! I love my husband but I wouldn’t have another full time live in man in this lifetime.
Barbie – Loved that your daughter took possession of your Christmas Ornaments. I have loads of stuff I’ve tried giving to the children but they just won’t take it. I think they are more mobile/transit than we were so they guard against letting possessions weigh them down.
Lisa – Back in September I had an adult child of a very dear childhood friend ask me to tell him about his mother’s childhood. She had a rough childhood and she also believes that there are some things that don’t need to be shared. One look at her face told me this was the case. So, the only good answer I could give him was “I can’t tell you about your mother’s childhood because I was with her every step of the way and refuse to implicate myself.” I don’t know that children ever “know” their parents because their perspective is so different. BTW, I would not do the book either.
Mo in Mississippi – It has amazed me how complicated mother/daughter relationship can be. I remember being angry with my mother for over 10 years for not leaving my functional alcoholic father. At some point she said to me “I had 3 little children that I could not support alone.” I had reached the point in my life where I had 2 little children and was divorced. My perspective changed and I could understand. My daughter gets really mad with me 3 or 4 times a year and may not speak to me for a month. I know who I am, and my truths are sometimes rather inconvenient and uncomfortable for her. I accept this as a part of her maturation process. 😊 Sometimes I even laugh at her upset and under my breath say "keep on living daughter". Sometimes, I welcome those periods of times when she is not speaking to me. 😊 She is an extrovert and I am an introvert.
Till later!

Ouch!
Bad time for hands ... I am pretty sure I've sprained my left hand.
My husband and I were digging the Christmas decorations out of our storage unit when he told me to move back. I took a step back and a package of heavy wood bed slats and a heavy wood box fell from above. I immediately and reflexively put up my left hand to try to catch them, and one or the other or both slammed into my hand.
I have scrapes on the palm of my hand and the whole area around my thumb, back and front, are quite sore. My forearm also aches.

Hey ladies! It's now about 8:18am, and I'm getting ready to have the management company come and do the yearly walk through for our rental. We haven't had anybody come for maybe 3 years to look at the place so this should be interesting. It's hard to believe that we've lived here for 5 years though.
Yes the trip down to Oregon was wonderful, pretty much the highlight of my Christmas season to be honest. It will be a quiet season with just us two for Christmas. I hope to have all three sons in their respective video chat boxes for a Christmas call, which is fun. This year we'll giggle as Eli opens things.
My time with Athena is always too short. We just did a lot of hugging, and she slept in my lap at the end of the day, just pooped out. My son and daughter in law were amazed. She normally does not take any sort of naps. I have a comfortable body, so there's that.😂
My sister and I got along great this time. She never told me what to wear, just announced it first off when I arrived that anything I wanted to wear in her closet, I could have at it. Then she didn't mention it. It was nice not to be given clothes with a "put these on" announcement, like in previous visits. To me it implied that the clothes I brought were crap, and it bummed me out. We are communicating so much better.💖👍🏼
My husband was too funny when we finally arrived home. He's like look in the kitchen! So I look and don't notice anything. Then I notice he had bought me bagels. But that wasn't it. No, it was the big red thing next to them, he was so excited about! My husband did something totally out of his wheelhouse! He bought a tomato! Like went to the commissary and chose it! He was so darn proud of himself! He's such a goofball! In our 40 years marriage he has never picked out a tomato though.😂💖

The traditions of Norwegians making lefse was to use up leftover boiled potatoes. Nowadays we just boil 5 lbs of potatoes and make them on special occasions. You just spread butter of warmed lefse quartered, sprinkle with sugar and roll up. Some put cinnamon sugar or jam though.👍🏼💖

I had to look them up too. Then I text my former hubby- to see if he had had them(he is Norwegian/Dutch. He said he hasnt made them but remembers his grandmother making them. Took her all day to make them so he hasn't tried making them himself.
I looked at one recipe. It said you need special tools and special pans. The kit he is promoting is almost $200, I didn't look up the link for the pan.
Don't think I will invest in all that for something I haven't tried and wouldn't make very often if it takes all day to make them(and most likely, dh wouldn't like them)0 -
Dh and I got started with the outside decorations. Got a few of the inflatables up- new ones I have picked up at Black Friday(the store) two during the summer and the pig just a few weeks ago.
It is starting to look nice- needs more but at least we started. Usually he does the outside and I do the inside(he tended to not like the way I helped so I stopped). He got busy with something else so I started working on one of the new ones. I wanted to make sure it worked. It does. It is an 11ft Santa arch-ended up needing his help to get it up and stay up. Had to tie it down a few places. He actually thanked me for helping. He hasn't thanked me for anything in months or longer. We also cleared off the porch that had gotten cluttered with all the Black Friday deals we have been buying. Need to stop going there so much.
BUT, I did go yesterday and have a dozen Halloween inflatables- Didn't get them for that but for the motor/blower/power supply to trade out with some of our Christmas ones that quit working. I LOVE Christmas decorations. Not a fan of Halloween(and NO skeletons, never- they freak me out tooooo much)
Son and his girlfriend will put the tree up. We brought it in last night. Son and I used to decorate it together but now he does it with his girlfriend which is fine.

Have Ezie today(usually don't have her on Wed.) and it is minimum day for her. I will leave soon to go walk the wetlands before picking her up. Will be nice to be out there again. With all the rain and then Thanksgiving break, it has been a while since I have been out there. I will walk the main path.
No zumba tonight-teacher will be out of town, so need to walk a bit extra.
Decluttering the living room after she goes home. Maybe the kids can get the tree up tonight.
I LOVE to sit with the tv and house lights off and just the tree lights on in the evening while I have a cup of tea.0 -
Well the walk thru with the management company was quick. They marked some things that needed fixing, but since they're not emergency ones I don't think they'll actually get fixed. All my cleaning though was nice, it wasn't really needed. Oh well, I got the mop out and did mop floors etc.
