10 pounds to lose challenge- November 1, 2024-January 31, 2025

Hi @RubyRed427 and fellow board members,
I'm going to jump off this board because I've now subscribed to so many it's hard to keep up. I have now joined a daily weigh-in challenge for December so I will keep track there each day until 2025, as well as a few others, on order to keep my posting more manageable during the hectic, final weeks of the year.
I am not likely to lose 10 pounds by the end of this year; however, I still intend to make steady progress. I'm thinking of starting up a new challenge beginning, Wednesday, January 1st in order to renew my commitment to reach my goal of 140 lbs. or less by Spring. 2025. My desired weight range is 132-140 lbs. (I'm 5'3".)
Best wishes for this holiday season and the year ahead!
Have a great weekend!

I’m still waiting to see how much is fluid retention. So far it is just not happening (extra output). But I’m happy to be down nearly 2 lbs since last week so I won’t complain. Our family feast for Thanksgiving is on Saturday. I plan on eating pie. Sunday I will gladly pay the fiddler and get right back on track. I’ll try sending most of the leftovers away with guests.
11/30-193.0-(Trend Weight: 191.7)-I’m very surprised by this jump. I thought yesterday went very well. Thanksgiving Feast today with all of the family. I got the last of the drywall dust mess that covered EVERYTHING on 3 floors of this house completely done by 11:00 last night. I ate well and burned a ton of calories so I’m confused. I gained 3.8 lbs this week. For the entire month of November I’ve gained 2.4 lbs. A horrible week and Not a good month! Oh, and here comes December!

Thank you @RubyRed427 for continuing this challenge. Thanks to everyone for the useful advice I have read on this thread this week. There's lots of things I need to look at and consider, thanks all. Although I only look at this page once a week, it is reassuring to know that others are in the same situation as me and we are all making progress!
My aims for this round are to: carry on staying active, reduce my carbohydrate intake, try to get at least 7 hours sleep a night and to return to tracking my meals - if only to see what I need to do to get into 130-ville!
My name is Nikki, and I'm 5'3" (on a good day!). I'm based on the south coast in the UK. I'm in my 50s and work full time as a teacher. I'm pretty active - but there's always room for some more.
My GW is 133lb
my UGW is 126 - although that is very optimistic!
I weigh in on Thursdays.
Progress so far:
08 Aug - 150
15 Aug - 148 (-2lb)
22 Aug - 145.4 (-2.6lb)
29 Aug - 147 (+1.6lb)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR AUGUST: 3lb
05 Sept -145.6 (-1.4lb)
12 Sept - 144.6 (-1.0lb)
19 Sept - 144.2 (-0.4lb)
26 Sept - 144.0 (-0.2lb)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR SEPTEMBER: 1.6lb
03 Oct - 145.2lb (+1.2lb)
10 Oct -144.2lb (-1.0lb)
17 Oct -144.5lb (+0.3lb)
24 Oct - 143.6lb (-0.9lb)
31 Oct - 144.8lb (+1.2lb)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR OCTOBER: 0.4lb
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR THIS CHALLENGE: 5.2lb
07 Nov - 143.2lb (-1.6lb) Yay! I've weighed in a little later this week, but I will go with the lower number to try and keep myself positive (although I realise I'm not being fully accountable)! I'm working on trying to keep my meals within a 12 hour window and I'm still working on reducing the number of carbs at lunch time - as these seem to be my downfall! I'm also working on keeping my fibre intake high with plenty of fruit and veg. I've been to the gym twice this week for body combat classes, and went dancing last night. My DH and I are learning to ballroom dance, and it is quite difficult learning and remembering the steps. I also have to keep moving to make sure he doesn't tread on my toes!! We went swimming this morning and swam a mile in 45 minutes. I made a vegetable rich chunky minestrone-style soup for lunch and my DH made a fish pie without cream, butter or flour - very impressive, and a tasty meal. He makes a cauliflower bechamel sauce if anyone is interested!
14 Nov - 142.8 (-0.4lb) Not much of a change, but I'll take it. It's difficult to stay motivated when the weight loss is so slow. I'm also not doing so well with tracking this week, so I need to get back into the habit. I've not done too badly with my getting more sleep target and I've been staying active, although it isn't easy to find the motivation to go out when it is cold and dark in the evenings! Back to tracking next week!!
21 Nov - 143.0 (+0.2lb) Not too bad in the scheme of things, I just need to get back to tracking and being a bit more mindful of what I am eating!! Tracking really is the way to go!!
28 Nov - 142.2 (-0.8) I'm late posting- but this was my weight on Thursday! Hurrah!! Still plenty to work on, but I'm not sure how I had a loss this week! I'll accept it and see how next week looks!

Good luck everyone.9 -

Not losing any pounds this past month. Will continue to try or at least maintain.
I have been enjoying this holiday weekend. Not reality monitoring what I'm eating, but skipping a big breakfast and eating a banana each morning.
I will meet one of my old goals: I have a yoga class on Monday and Pilates on Wed. so that makes 2 classes in a week. I've been trying to do that for months.6 -

I haven't weighed myself since the day before Thanksgiving. I probably consumed 4000 to 6000 calories on T-day. I have no idea. I'm just putting that out there so I see it in print. My goal is to make it through this week with no gain. If I can do that I may be able to record a loss for the month. I'm trying to focus on one day or one week. It's so easy to just throw out this month and start again in January.
It really helps me to put this all out there. I hope everyone has a peaceful holiday season.

Greetings friends!
Been cooking at home more this week. That makes such a difference in my weight. I don't salt my food as much as in a restaurant, although restaurant foods tastes better than mine. At my age (mid 50s), my fingers tingle at night when I eat too much salt.
I did yoga last evening. It was heavenly. I go to a place that has a wonderful instructor, cool music, candles softly lighting the room, everyone is quiet... it is so pleasant and a great workout. My balance has improved greatly since I started in July.
Tomorrow night, I have Pilates.
I will not weigh in until Friday, I think. I am trying to have zero alcohol this week to cut back on calories.6 -

Thankful that Thanksgiving day and too many leftovers didn't do much damage. I think getting in some extra cardio workouts helped prevent too much of a gain. Losing this time of year is challenging but I'm still determined to at least make it to my goal weight by the end of December.
Have a great week!

Well I got through Thanksgiving without much damage. Now I have to think about the rest of this challenge. I don't think I can make my goal of losing 7.5 pounds. I have to force myself not to be so dependent on the scale.
If I can concentrate on nutrition and exercise instead of weight loss I'll be better off. I've avoided thinking about maintenance which is part of the problem.
It feels good to wear some of my smaller clothes. I have more things to wear now. And I rarely feel like I'm bulging at the seams. I'll use that to keep me on track.
Thank you all for posting. It really helps me. Let's all have a good week.

I also had a very low calorie/low carb day yesterday on purpose to help offset some of the tremendous gain after the Saturday feast and the Tuesday travel. This is very likely my true weight now and where I’m starting (re-starting) from. I’m going to focus on the next 5 pounds which will likely take me awhile. It will get me back into the 180’s though not solidly as I do still like to see that 7 on the end (as in 187 or better). My goal per round is any loss so anything each round will help get me to that 5 lbs and I will be grateful one ounce at a time. So….. my focus will be 10 days at a time and 5 lbs at a time. That feels so much more do-able than looking at the big picture right now. That’s why we are here, right? Just give me 10 days!
12/07-192.4-(Trend Weight: 192.8)-What a pathetic year this has been for me. Looking over my records I see that on Dec 31, 2023 I ended the year at 183.8. On my other challenges which are weekly or monthly my goal is always set to lose 4 lbs each month. 4 x 12 = 48 lbs. I could have been down to 135.8 lbs which is 10 lbs less than my actual overall goal. That means that by sometime in Sept or Oct I could have been in maintenance and learning so much about that phase from so many of you. 2024 is such a disappointment to me and to my health goals. Am I using my statistical data to help me going forward or am I just crying over spilled milk? Why document these weight results if not to use them for information? I don’t know but I do know that I can do better than this. I started the year at 183.8 I’m 9 lbs heavier today. I know that no one can do it for me. Somewhere along the line this year I stopped keeping my home the “safe zone” with only good foods. I’m not going to blame anyone else, but I think it truly started when my DD and DGS started staying weekends. The foods in the house definitely changed. But that didn’t mean I had to eat them. Changes, compliance, readiness, willingness, they are all up to me. I hope that 2025 will be different. I know there will be setbacks we all encounter – travel, holidays, social or special occasions. But those are finite. Numbered. A lifestyle is forever and that is what needs to change in me. I suppose I’m just reflecting today but I know I am not alone. I really want to make 2025 a banner year. It feels like I can do it if I just stay steadfast in my resolve. I’ve tasted all the donuts and tortilla chips and ice cream before. But I haven’t tasted the 140’s in about 22 years. That’s what I need to crave! I wanted to start with a 5 lb loss. 1.4 down and 3.6 to go.

15 Aug - 148 (-2lb)
22 Aug - 145.4 (-2.6lb)
29 Aug - 147 (+1.6lb)

TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR NOVEMBER: 1.0lb Not a huge loss, but a better weight than I have been for sometime!
05 Dec - 141.6 (-0.6lb) although it isn't much of a loss, getting to 141 lb is a big milestone for me. I've not seen that number for a very long time! Don't quite know what I did to get to this weight though. I still haven't gotten around to tracking, but this will become more important in the next few weeks now that Christmas is looming!

I am not losing anything but I am ok with it, since it's the holidays. I am at a standstill, so I'll have to figure out what I can do to lose a few more pounds. I have 15 more pounds to lose.
Positive moments:
Yoga and Pilates classes in a week- that's been a goal for a long time.
A few days off from wine- but not enough
Cooking at home four times this week (always helps with calorie intake)

Good Morning Mates,
I'm still plugging along with my exercise and eating routines.
My weight is staying the same (UP Then back Down), a big win during the holidays 🥳
Next week is a cookie decorating party. And of course I'm worried about overeating 😂
Seen this daily affirmation that's helping
"I let go of stress and embrace the calm of the season"
Hello and best wishes to everyone 💞

12/03-191.8-(Trend Weight: 192.0)-That’s more like it. I’ve been pawning off the leftovers from our Saturday Feast. Everything is gone now. Whew!
12/10-194.4-(Trend Weight: 193.1)- Pizza last night with my son while decorating. Me and bread don’t mix. Travel earlier in the week while Christmas shopping. A birthday party for DGS. Just some of the challenges I faced this week and it shows. Gosh, how quickly that scale can go up! I have a cardiology appointment out of town tomorrow, so more travel and more restaurant food. This rural gal will take advantage of being in a big city and do some more Christmas shopping and grocery shopping. My cardiologist is going to be pretty disappointed in me! I weighed about 12 pounds less when I saw her in June. Ugh! No one can change it but me, but I seriously doubt there will be much progress in December. If I could just stop the damage here I would accept that (for now) but there’s still baking, more out-of-town shopping is likely and all the parties and festivities yet to be. I hate spending most of a year just trying to fix what happens in December every year. It is up to me to hate it enough to change it!

Not losing any weight this month. I was sure I'd get to 169 lbs soon. I must be overdoing my calories or my body is just hanging on to the weight, being stubborn.
I went to Pilates - love it so much. What a workout and stretch!
No yoga this week due to holiday events
Meditated 19 days in a row
Have a great day!8 -
I didn’t set plans to meet my challenge goal the last seven days. I’ve had some great highs at work, but I’ve otherwise felt « out of control » on the healthy eating and exercise fronts this last week. No logging, no real exercise and a lot of sugary treats. Definitely using food to navigate work stressors. I even ate some icecream at breakfast this morning in an « all or nothing » jab at myself.
Plan is no alcohol with dinner tonight, so I’m ready to re-engage with this challenge tomorrow Friday 12/13. Friday I’ll eat a vegetable with all meals and brush my teeth right after dinner. I also want to do minimum 30 min exercise tomorrow and log my foods in MFP.
After a Friday success under my belt, I’d like to make a plan for the weekend and also identify the next weigh-in day for myself this challenge.5 -
I went to the doctor and they weighed me ... with shoes on and clothes, of course. She said "I'll take off 2 pounds for clothes and shoes.". But I was actually pretty happy, because I saw on my chart that I am have a 28 BMI. I was happy to see that because a few years ago, I had a BMI of 32. I'll take that as a win.
@3636anna3636 I think we do the best we can. You are having stressors at work and you're doing well! I need to up my vegetables, too. I love vegetables but I don't cook them well- they're kind of tasteless.6 -
Four overnights with my 2 yo granddaughter while her parents traveled for work, and it shows on the scale. She’s a burst of energy and kept me busy. A win win for me. Time with her and lost pounds! 😄
