Good morning!
Yesterday I had my first day of 7 with all meals planned out. It went well and it was great to have food already prepared. The New Orleans Red Beans turned out well and my husband came to raid them but they were already packed away in their containers. He did snatch the rest of the Andouille sausage as a consolation prize (!).
It’s a gorgeous winter day at 71degF and sunny. One of my new and very sick rescue dogs has claimed the lounge chair on the patio as her own and loves to bask in the sun there. She came to us in heart failure and 40% underweight, covered with fleas and ticks, filthy and partially blind. She weighed just 4.5 lbs. We’ve gotten her cleaned up, removed 14 bad teeth, and have been feeding and medicating her 4 times a day. I can’t imagine her struggles as a stray on the streets of Dallas! She’s now up to 6 lbs and has such a fierce little spirit that I think she might make it. Time will tell. Her name is “Pink”. Here she is when she arrived three weeks ago.
My fierce Scottie has become her guardian and insists on going out into the yard with her at all times. He will even wake me in the middle of the night when she has to go out. (The heart meds cause her to pee a lot).
Work will be crazy this week. Being the holidays there will be lots of employees calling in “sick” and I’ll be scrambling to cover the holes in the schedule. I’m also making training videos and trying to get that done by the end of the year. At least that’s my goal. Hoping to get some exercise time in as well. Funny how difficult that it, even working in an athletic club!
All the best to everyone here and wishing you a great day!

Heather - So glad your brother's coming, and obviously feeling a bit better! It will do you good to see him.
Tracey - So pleased your craft show outing went well in the end! Loved your Christmas memories. Always loved other people's stories.
Debbie - Sorry your craft show did not go well - y'all do have just an astonishing array of things to sell. Unfortunately, they're much more about who shows up to buy your stuff and how many people show up, as I found out the hard way! 👀🤷🏻♀️😃
Carol - It does feel like I'm trying to herd cats when my brain shifts into that mode! 🐈🐈⬛🐈🐈⬛😹 But on the flip side, if a little lost sleep is the worst thing that happens this week, I'm happy with it, though I'll be wandering around foggy the rest of the day. Did get three more hours of sleep after Corey left, but it wasn't enough. Egg liked it. She was already tucked up in the bed when I laid down, and was still there when I woke! 😃🐈⬛
Lanette - Very few things are more disturbing than that swoony feeling! Sounds like a two-week monitor may be in your future, yes. My docs seemed to feel that particular feeling was an acceptable side effect, but the few meds that make me feel like that are now posted in my "what I'm allergic to," section online.
Diana on Padre - Glad that pre-planning your meals is suiting you so well! The beans sound good - I get a terrible craving for red beans and rice on occasion. Which reminds me, I need to make some rice today to let get cold so we can have chicken fried rice later this week. Makes me very happy. My husband makes it with as little oil as possible, and crunchy chicken to go with, one or more fresh vegetables that I can pick out and hand to him (😃) and eggs scrambled with a little soy sauce in sesame oil. Odd color, but very yummy!
Well, before I laid back down, I got one load of laundry washed, dried and largely put away, got the dishwasher emptied and dishes put away, and finished up all but a few things on Corey's workshop apron. Just need to add a velcro strap to steady the drill and a bunch of rivets at the pocket corners. The leather punch is tough to use, might wait and let Corey punch holes for me when he gets home. Easier for very large hands with a dozen times my grip strength!
Still need to put my meds together for the week, but Egg's finally emerged from her nap... need to let her out, she'll be yelling at me in a hot minute.
Later, babies...
Love,
Lisa, still talking to y'all from the middle of my Arkansas rainy morning. Egg will be back in shortly to warm her little wet paws on me. Speaking of which, "I'm coming to let you out, you impatient little cat!" Gotta go!

Weird weekend with surprise call from my middle daughter that turned into problems. DH told me he thought we should take a drive to TN this spring to check out apartments there, told daughter and she snapped back she will not allow my DH or the dogs in her house. My emotions went all over the place. Plus, yesterday, my son started his paranoia again. But, on the good side, had a nice talk with my daughter until it turned bad, and had a good call with my mother which is rare. Thank you Lanette for listening to me rant and worry.
Speaking of dogs, I think we will have to put my Brownie down. She is suffering now with mini-heart attacks, constant coughing, and falling from the coughing. I want to wait until after Christmas, if she lasts that long. Sorry, just a bad time of year for me, especially this year, for a lot of reasons.
Today I have PT for my back at 2pm tomorrow, doctor appointment for DH and I for bloodwork review. Then, no docs until first week of January. Nice break!

Debbie - that's a tremendous assortment of neat items you and DH have made. Have you though about selling any of them online? (I'm not necessarily pushing this, it can be a lot of labor-intensive work shipping and dealing with customers who gripe "it's not what I thought it would be.")
I have an appointment with Dr. Lisa this morning. T is going with me. I have had 2 episodes of light headedness in the past month. Several weeks ago, I was doing dishes after supper and "swooned" - so I lowered myself onto the floor for a couple minutes, then was fine. Last Friday I was walking with weights after breakfast and suddenly "swooned" mid-walk. A couple minutes on the floor, everything OK again. I have a hunch I'll end up wearing an "event monitor" or "Holter monitor", which I've done several times in my life due to tachycardia and mitral valve prolapse. Had an echo about 10 years ago, nothing remarkable. This just might be related to my coffee habit too. I have some great decaf, just need to remember to switch to it sooner. And drink more water.

Glad you are getting yourself checked out- that sounds so scary.
No, we don't try and sell online. The stuff I am "in charge of" there are others who make similar things- we just have lower prices when we are at the shows. His things he could sell online because they are unique, hand painted and no one else is selling anything like it. He sells at the big comic con shows and does well. He just has had to skip many shows because of dealing with his mom.

Debbie ~ That's a lot of 3D creations. It must take a lot of packing to get them to the shows and return home. I hope your next show will do better for you. I remember when my DH was doing Scotts Antique Show every month that he had to pack up the long folding tables along with all the antiques. That was always quite a job. I know he could not do that any more because it is too much work.
Carol in GA
It is a lot of work packing and unpacking/setting up/packing back up. This last show, even though we only made $100, there was no table fee and they provided the tables plus I got to see my mom.
Some shows they include tables, some dont(some they give us one but we add a few if there is space so we have more room, especially if we are sharing a booth with his friend and only get half the table space.
The table fees on the ones the guys do is high in my opinion but they do them. At least dh at least pays for his share of the table with what he sells- his friend often doesn't even sell enough to pay the table fee. Add in hotel cost if it is a two day show(StocktonCon in Feb. is a two day show)

trying to get last minute baking done- got all the cookie dough in the fridge
DH just called, wants me to meet him at his mom's. She is altered, saying she wants him to take her home(she is at home)
Not sure if this is real or some game like before. Happens every single time after he skips a day with her(doing a show).
Last time we took her to emergency because she said she couldn't walk-they found nothing wrong and she was mad about that. Got her home and she was walking all over the house like normal.
Hate to not take her seriously but she has "cried wolf" so many times.
Oh well, at least the dough is chilling.

I've had two wonderful mornings with 90 minute walks alone in my neighborhood before daylight with a clear sky and the full moon overhead. Many of my neighbours have holiday lights on in the early mornings---some intentionally and some accidentally. I like the lights.

MFP Weekly Check-In for December 16, 2024
Rita in Roswell, NM - Down .6 of a pound this past week, to 179.4, so even with my stress levels being over the top, I managed to lose a little. All time high, 210, start over at 186, so still going in the right direction!
Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast- WT Sunday ballooned up to 133.0 from 129.2 Weekly average up to 131.4 from 130.0. Too many self indulgent days on Medford trip and the loooong way home due 199 slide closure. Weekly average steps 5413 way short of goal 7778. BB&B once, line dancing twice, dog group once. CI WAY OVER CO and sugar WAY OVER goal too many times. AF, PT & Zumba still more of an intention than an actuality. Back on track yesterday, showed on scale (129.9) this morning thank goodness.
Sue in WA State -Lost 2 pounds this past week of the 3 I gained during the 2 weeks without electricity and heat. Drinking more water and getting back to my exercise classes was key I think. At any rate I hope to continue with that and try to keep the sugar under control.
Lanette SW WA State – weight jumped up to 160, but clothing still fits fine. Lingering after effects of two days of cookies mid-week? Perhaps. Step daily average 7640, up a bit from last week. Still walking with weights.

I agree- you have to have customers if you want to make any sales. One show he didn't think would be that good and we made $1800 in a 5 hr show. Other shows he has barely paid expenses(or lost money)

Visit with Dr. Lisa went well. She listened to my heart a long time, heard just a couple "premature beats" and didn't appear to be alarmed. She ordered a month-long event monitor for me. Luckily, I'll get it at the local hospital and not have to drive to the big city.
Also testing me for anemia and something else, not sure what. They took 2 vials of blood.
From my end, I've got to cut back the caffeinated coffee. Way back. Carol, thanks, I found that info too. I have some really nice decaf I can switch over to once I get a gulp or two of Hi-Test. Let's see if that's the culprit.

Debbie - Sorry your sales weren’t better. I found it hit and miss this year.
Heather - will Edie and Max graduate from this school?
Hope your cold goes very fast. So miserable.
Lisa - hope you get some answers at the doctor.
I am off from Christmas Eve afternoon to Jan 2. I’m so looking forward to it.
Lanette - I think we did ok as parents based on the way the girls turned out, but there are times I think they did a great job raising themselves too. Our girls were treated more like Gen X kids than the Millenials they are. We depended on them to be responsible on their own before and after school. They were also both in Sea Cadets and that helped too. Thank you for the compliment though.
Kaitlyn and Brodey have been watching their caffeine intake. They weren’t willing to give it up entirely, so she buys both caffeinated and decaffeinated and mixes them together about half and half. She does it when she fills her canister so she doesn’t have to think about it again. Just a thought.
Rita - Hugs
Debbie - I agree about spending too much, it always makes me nervous.
I was told yesterday to go to a 3 day one that is about 3 hours from here. She said it cost her $800 to participate including hotel, but the return was well worth it, that would be a lot of money for me and I have to be willing to lose when I pay for the tables. That’s how I figure out if I want to do a show or not.
Barbie - I love those snowmen.
I’ve thought of you from previous years and how much you enjoy lights on your morning walks and left my lights on this year all night and day. They are LED so affordable to do that.
I went to the pharmacy today after work to see if the pharmacist had a suggestion on help with an issue I’m having. She was quite disappointed that my doctor didn’t listen closer to me, I asked her if it would be good to see another doctor at the walk in attached to the pharmacy, she agreed and even went and spoke to the physician assistant and got me an appointment for 11am tomorrow. I’ll use that as my lunch time.
I was so impressed with her determination to help me.
I figured out the rest of my Christmas presents to buy, I just need to go do it now. 😂. Well except Rodger. 😕
I spent 2 hours in the craft room tonight and managed to get 3 more layouts done in Kaitlyn’s album. I have 8 more to go, but have some ideas so hopefully they’ll go fast.
I’m so thankful she is coming to help me wrap on Saturday!
Well it is past 10 and I try to be in bed by then, so good night all.

Dh has decided to stay at his mom's tonight- what we thought was her just dreaming that people were just a dream she had turns out it is hallucinations- All day and even this evening she says she sees them. DH thinks it is the side effects from one of her new pills. She was yelling at him saying they weren't there anymore because he was hiding them from her. She went up stairs to look and see if she could find the people. When I was there I kept telling her there had not been anyone in the house- first she said it wasn't a dream then said she did dream. She was yelling and cussing at him- He video taped it so he can show the doctor tomorrow if she isn't better.
I am so ready to just put her in a home and let us get a bit of a break(before he mentally breaks-he is very close to it now)
He resented me leaving him over there to come home(and then go to class) but I am not staying over there to listen to all the fighting and cussing.
Planned on baking all day- need to send boxes of treats to former hubby and to his parents and brother. They may be a bit late- going to Indiana. Staying up late tonight to finish baking the three kinds of cookies and the cracker toffee. They won't get as much this year. Maybe for Valentines day I can make something. Sure wish shipping costs were not so high. SHipping is more expensive than the baked goods
Debbie
just 3 more sheets of cookies to bake then I will head for bed. Could have gotten up early to finish but, the oven is hot and who knows what drama will happen tomorrow.4 -

Debbie - it could be the medication. That happened to my grandmother. She was seeing all kinds of weird things.
But it could be a UTI. That's the most likely culprit. That happened to my mother. Hallucinating people indistinguishable from reality.
A doctor or nurse would check that out from a urine test.
Bea pick up today.
I did not sleep well with my cold and my Ramipril cough. I have a phone consultation about the Ramipril on Thursday, so I ought to take a couple of BP readings beforehand.
I will probably make the Masala peas today for DSIL 's lunch tomorrow. Having it with sea bass. I have ordered some mini chapatis as well. My brother should be able to swallow a sample of peas, as it's mashed. But he is bringing his own food. We can all have ice cream for dessert.
Still haven't wrapped the girls' presents, but it won't take long when I get round to it.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Well, the Massala peas took a lot longer and was harder work than I anticipated! I couldn't find my original recipe, so I used one I found online that looked similar, except the peas are not mashed up. It tastes divine, but there was a lot of washing up! Still, it's done now.
I expect my cold didn't help.
I have no idea what to have when we get back from Bea. Bacon and egg? What the grandchildren call, 'breakfast for dinner '. Actually, I do have a chilli lurking in the freezer. .......

Happy Tuesday!
We made it back safely and without incident Sunday afternoon. I actually got totally unpacked! Spent time with DYD, DSL, and DGS. I had picked up things for them. The left for Arkansas yesterday afternoon. It took 12 hours to get to Bentonville from here. DSL's grandmother's passed. His grandparents pretty much raised him. His mom married a few years after he was born and he was "the evil stepchild" after the births of his siblings. The stepfather is awful. I am praying for no dramatics, but.....Stepfather brought that on at Grandpa's funeral a couple years ago. DSL's family don't really know my grandkids as this will only be the third time they have seen them. I offered to pay for hotel instead of flowers. DSL probably won't take advantage, but the offer stands. They will be home sometime Saturday as grands have to work Sunday. Prayers that no one goes to jail this visit.
We put up the tree Sunday night......after vinegar water sprays, the kittens left alone. Yesterday while at work was a different story! Tori was in it several times. My outdoor tree climber, Cali, just played with the lower branches. Turned the lights on when got home and brought back out spray bottle. Again Tori was the trouble maker. Don't know about overnight as I turn off in house cameras at night.
Nail trims needed on kittens. Probably tonight.
For now I need to clean litter boxes and finish getting ready for work. I might get cards mailed in time for Christmas. If not they will get a little love after the holidays. The way the postal service is they may not have gotten them even if I mailed two weeks ago!
Debbie I too thought UTI when you mentioned MIL. Hope you get some answers today. Also applause for protecting your mental health by not staying there.
My Outside lights come on before we wake up in the morning, go off before we leave, then back on before we come home and go off about 11. I am happy to bring joy to the early morning walkers.
Make the best decision you can in the moment!
Find some peace in your day!
Move just a bit more today!
Lots of love,

Morning my chicks,
The afghans I made have been received, and many heart emojis from all directions, so that's one project finished. I'm on hold on Corey's workshop apron, as the hardware I was using was insufficient, as I found out last night when I tried it on him. More coming in later in the week, but I can put that to the side for the moment.
Doodling with yarn in the evenings, crocheting squares out of the remains left over from the afghans. I'll put those together for another afghan, possibly one for Egg. She gets Egg all over every one that I make anyway. 😹
I've got another bag in mind, practically got it built in my mind, just need to get it going, but I'm backing and filling for some reason that is not yet clear. My only deadlines are self-imposed. I will grok in the fullness of time, I'm sure.
But at the moment, it's time for breakfast!
Later y'all,
Love,

Good morning!
So far, having pre-cooked /planned meals is working. When I get home I’m so exhausted and hungry from work that I had been binging carbs—just grabbing the easiest thing. But these past evenings I dump my boxed meal on the plate and microwave it, wolf it down, then go to bed. I also have planned breakfasts and lunches so I’m eating like I should.
The prep last Sunday wasn’t that smooth so I’m thinking up ways to streamline it. I’m sure it can be improved, and have a couple ideas now. And a plan to buy more travel containers.
Yesterday a friend from Church brought her daughter to my office insisting I hire her. The young lady has severe autism and was entirely resistant to the idea, especially after I showed them both what a day in a commercial laundry would be like. It is back breaking and fast-paced. While I told the daughter about the job, she replied with statements entirely unrelated to the topic at hand. I advised the mother that it was not a good fit and she was livid. Now I don’t have that friend anymore. I feel sick about it, but didn’t really have an alternative.
In other news, it’s a lovely 72d F morning on the Island and the Laughing Gulls are yucking it up in the palm trees.
Wishing everyone a great day!
Diana on Padre7 -
Tracey and Kylia, Thank you from me and from your neighbours for having your lights on in the morning.
Diana, Sorry to hear about your friend who demanded that you hire her daughter. We have had lots of conversations on this thread about the difference between real friends and toxic friends.
I had to cancel my appointment to have my teeth cleaned in November because I was so sick. When i finally remembered to call and reschedule, there was a space today so I don't have to wait months to fit into their busy schedule.
Enjoy all your projects today.
Surprisingly many of life's ailments get better with a healthy breakfast, less coffee, and more water.
Barbie in NW WA4 -
Diana ~ With your already stressful job, you don't need more stress from an unhappy friend. Perhaps after she thinks about the situation she will find that your reasons for not hiring were actually valid. I like your idea of the boxed lunches. How does your family react to you doing this? I am glad your little foster dog is improving and hope he/she lives.
Barbie ~ So nice for you to see the Christmas lights on your early morning walks. I can't remember but is Annie your only dog? For some reason I thought you had two. I am sorry she gets anxious when Jake is not around.
Heather ~ I looked up the peas you are making for your brother and SnL and the recipe sounds complicated with so many ingredients and having to use so many dishes to produce the results. Must say I personally hate green peas but guess this is something your brother is able to eat.
Lanette ~ Your weekly report on weight losses and gains is interesting. I am at least 30 lbs overweight but have decided to just concentrate on not gaining any more which I have done well.
All of my shopping is done and I now have to find paper to wrap! My DH will be giving money in Christmas cards.
I am a big coffee drinker. This morning I had my daily 2 cups and then decided to have a mug of Chamomile tea and I can actually feel the effects. Perhaps this is something I need to do more often as I have been a bit depressed since Thanksgiving. I am one of those people who have been on anti-depressants my entire adult life. I quit taking them in July because they were making me feel worse than being depressed.
Carol in GA7 -
Back therapy comes with a massage and acupuncture (dry needling actually). So relaxing for me.Today I find out if DH’s liver disease has progressed and how much. Also get results of my blood test which should be ok (fingers crossed!). It has been a stressful couple of days for me with my middle daughter. I can’t change her, only myself so learning to let it go and not snap back at her hurtful comments. I’m hoping it helps me!
I also think I have a UTI. I will have that checked today too. Been about a week now and I’m tired of it. Before I start hallucinating, I need to get it treated! Probably contributing to my deep depression these days. Holidays are always hard for me. Been for as long as I can remember. I need to bounce back! I’ve been lax on exercising (walking), just too sleepy (UTI?). I know it makes me feel better emotionally. Soon……

Today the power will be off from 8-4pm. We have gas fireplace, the blower won’t work but that’s better than nothing. Oh and we don’t have hot water. Someone is coming out tomorrow to look at it.
