Baby Suko and I walked a lot on my trip and worked hard to close our exercise ring. DH was weird.
How do you give gifts to the staff who cared for your mom without going broke? I thought maybe pens and candy canes would work.
We can not accept gifts at the hospital. I received two gift cards from different individuals but did not use them because I feared getting in trouble. Cookies and pizza are enough.
As for the benefit situation, the way it works doesn't seem fair.

:) Annie and I walked late enough yesterday afternoon that we were able to see some of the neighbourhood lights that are on only in the evening. It was a nice treat. We also saw a neighbour that we hadn't seen in awhile.

:) Jake's back must be in such bad condition that Medicare pays for weekly or bi weekly visits to the chiropractor and has for years.

    Morning, my dears,

Sleep finally erased the headache, and I am grateful, 'cause it was still pounding when I went to bed. Longest night's sleep I've gotten in a few, too, which didn't hurt. Am in the midst of the morning "coffee service," but Corey's on his 4th cup, so should be done soon. Egg went back to bed with him the moment he was back and settled in with his computer, and refused to go outside--she no longer gets out there when it's too cold.

I'll be shooing him off a bit later to go riding around the countryside with his brother, as Pat wants to look at a couple of potential places to buy. He's been living in a small camper/trailer in an RV park near where he and Corey work for months now, and I think he's ready for solid surfaces under his feet. Like Corey, he loves to garden as well.

I was happy to get a fire going, as it is still below freezing outside and only supposed to get to 10 degrees above freezing at its highest. Another good reason to let the boys go play around out there. I'll be asking them to get the wood rack replenished before they head out, too. That will let me and Egg stay nice and toasty while they tramp around on frozen grass in strange places.

Mo - Glad to see you, I knew you were in Florida, and hoped things were going well. You said your DH was weird - what's up with that? Enjoy the time with your son!

Heather - Glad John was able to get to the higher smoke detector. You reminded me that I need to get some 9 volt for just that purpose. They're the only ones that use them anymore. I keep all my batteries in one of the ornate boxes that I have sitting on my living room cabinet. Each of them houses something that came from my mother's wood chest of drawers that I now use in my sewing room.

Rori - Sorry the foot issues are back. Glad that time with N is in the offing, you always light up when he's near you. Love the pic of you and Mars!

Regarding blood pressure - Since I'm in permanent A-fib, I'm on metoprolol (Toprol) which is an old beta blocker, to stabilize my blood pressure and keep my heart rate from getting too high. It does well for me at its lowest dose, and I take a daily diuretic. Never had issues with coughing. My BP was 114/77 yesterday, and that was just cause I was stressed at being there. It normally runs around 90/60 on this medication.

Beth - Glad your mom is in a place where she can be peaceful with her mental condition. I have to admit, I like fresh snow as well, but just to look at, not to be out and about in! 🐈😜🙀

Is anyone connected with Annie in other ways? She hasn't been on MFP now for 5 days, and I don't remember her going that long, even on vacation. Worried about her. I know that KJ is OK, as I see her posting on FB every so often, but I'm not connected with Annie that way.

Ginny - Hoping for much traveling grace, dear heart, as you head out for time with your family.

There goes the dryer - need to get Corey's work clothes out and hung up. I don't wash them with anything else. Because of the grease and grime on them, I just throw in a half bottle of Spray and Wash. Life is too short to spray every surface of his clothes. Easier to use the same amount as a laundry additive! Works, too. 😜

    Love y'all,

Today is Winter Solstice (summer solstice) and the shortest day of the year for the Northern Hemisphere (not sure about Southern-Machka?) Days will be getting longer starting tomorrow.

Up at 5:30 am, don't know why. In my dreams I was spouting Japanese, "Hajimemashita", (which means nice to meet you). Of course laying there I was then thinking of other words I know..... So I just got up.

Husband fixed a proper meal with some leftover beans from the other night, then some eggs and a small steak. No I didn't cook it, he likes to fiddle with all that so I just let him. I do have one rule and that is he can't use my cast iron pans. Not because I am a meanie, he just tends to burn the snot outta foods and you need a gentle hand, plus patience with cast iron. Plus there's other pans he can use. He also doesn't want to deal with the aftercare of my cast iron.

I have yet to bake any Christmas treats. It would be only me eating them, so there's that. I do have a box that is Meyer Lemon bars, that I could make up, but I would if they freeze well? I suppose they would.

I was looking thru a recipe book my eldest sister got me last Christmas, and it came with plastic pages and blank recipe cards. I filled out many of them, some of the recipe cards were full page cards which is nice for recipes more intricate. I have like 5 pages (double sided) leftover, so I packaged them in a mailer for one of my pen pals. She's young, and can fill them up with recipes she likes as she becomes more confident in the kitchen. She drives me nuts when she tells me she uses paper plates to eat off of, because it saves time. I think food just tastes better off of real plates. I would never, even when we bring food home, I will put it on a real plate! The younger generation...😂🙄. The "mailer" I put them in is a cut down thing that held my 2025 calendar. It was a stronger cardboard, and my calendar this year is of Paris photos, so its a pretty container! Recycle, reuse!

    kswoakrpjgrz.jpg
With enough packing tape, anything is possible!
I put stickers over the bar codes and price so it was more envelope-ish!
This is what I did to last years Japanese block print calendar. Nice envelopes!

Well time for another cuppa! Need to start making my chicken stock.
Today is our treat to our favorite burger place for dinner. Just a burger/pizza place on base in the bowling alley. Its a $9 burger, but messy burger good, and a great value. I will just have chicken stock and maybe some chicken for lunch.😁👍🏼
    Happy Saturday ladies💖

Snow – I’d be happy if it would snow everywhere except the street. It IS nice to look at. But I must say I’m glad to be in NC where they are religious about their snow...God put it here, God will take it away. And He usually does by about 11a.m.

Lisa – I sent annie a note here on MFP but it wouldn’t surprise me if she didn’t answer. That’s the only other way I know to get in touch with her. Sure hope everything’s OK

Rita – when I first glanced at the pic of the haircut you were looking for, I thought it was pip.

Rebecca – I haven’t made the Meyer’s Lemon bars, but I do make another lemon bar and I’ve never had a problem freezing it. I would think you wouldn’t have a problem freezing the Meyers

:)Rebecca, I like that all the holiday stuff you do brings you joy. There is no feeling of "having to do" something and your joy spills through. Count me in as someone who doesn't like paper plates. When we get take out from Taco Time we ask for no napkins or utensils and transfer the food to real plates and use our own silverware and cloth napkins.

:) Starting tomorrow there will be another minute of daylight in the evening but the mornings don't turn around until a few days into January. I love to walk in the dark morning.

:) If I should disappear, check with Barbara in Oregon who has my email address or Rebecca who has my mailing address.

This is just a store bought boxed version, so more chemicals to keep it lasting longer. I will wrap each piece I cut. It makes a small squared pan.💖

Lisa - I was thinking the same thing about Annie this morning - does she connect with anyone? How would we find her? I remember when Gloria in Olympia got hit by a car years ago, we were able to find out what happened - maybe her last name was part of her user name on here. Barbara, Rita and Carol have my email address.

By the way, when Barbara emailed me her Check-in info last week, she said she was super busy and hoped to catch up one of these days. ;)

Rita - love your haircut!! I didn't even notice that spot on your nose until you mentioned it. Did I wish you Happy Birthday? If I didn't, Happy Birthday. I can't keep up, lol. Birthday dinner at Chili's sounded great.

Beth - I need to get back to 2 days a week of 16:8 IF, just skipping breakfast. That's how I got into the mega coffee habit.

I read an article on the Silver Sneakers website this morning about walking after meals and glucose. I've been house-walking for 15-20 minutes immediately after every meal. The article said to wait 30 minutes after a meal to let digestion start and make sure glucose is released in your bloodstream. And if a person can only take one walk, do it after dinner. I'm wondering if my light-headedness could have been related my walking so quickly after a meal. I'm going to change things.

Here's a link to the article if anyone is interested:

I think I'm stocked up for a week grocery wise. I got a large plastic container of salad greens, and the one I grabbed had a "best by" date of January 3rd.

I'm alive. Just hectic with end of the semester and getting ready for Christmas and then an after Christmas vacation. I'm reading along, but by time I think to comment, someone's already said it better.

Barbie – yea for more daylight! I understand Trump is talking about doing away with DST. Personally, I’d like to keep it, but I think I would eventually get used to Standard Time all the time. For one thing, in DST it’s lighter longer so I can walk after dinner which helps (to me) settle my stomach

Rebecca – when I’m freezing something, what I do is cut it up, then freeze it in a single row, then I can take it and put it in a bag to continue being frozen

Rita – I didn’t notice the spot on your nose until you mentioned it, either

    Off to lector tonight.

Vince finished his wrapping, I sent a gift card to a dear friend of mine (is this the first year Amazon is sending text gift cards?), and Vince got almost everything in the car. We put things in a box so that the presents don’t get “unwrapped” on the drive up to Jess’. Wonder if she knows what she’s in store for with 6 kittens? We shall find out

Just got back from MIL's. Dh spent the night there again(not sure why really). He messaged me early this morning saying she smelled like pee REALLY bad, she needed a shower and needed me to help get her up and take one- She would not let him even help her out of her chair.
She refusesd to take a shower but I did convince her to go down stairs and change. She kept complaining about being so cold. Told her it was because she was sitting in diaper and pants that were soaking wet(so wet it was like she didn't have a diaper on at all). She smelled SOOO bad. Got her down stairs, cleaned her the best I could. She wouldn't take a shower because she said it was too cold(down stairs is pretty cold and the only heat is a space heater). While I was doing that, taking extra time, not rushing her, because dh was up stairs cleaning her recliner that she sits in almost 24/7(eats there, drinks there, sleeps there, sits there). Brought a basket of her stinky clothes home and have them in the washer now- she won't let us use the washer at her house for her clothes and she doesn't do her laundry anymore I guess.. One load in, second one to do. In there are also the clothes that have blood on them from when she fell. Good thing she wears mainly dark clothes, not sure if the stains will come out or not. As long as they are clean, that is better than nothing.
At least now it won't smell as bad when dh has to be there so much.
I really feel he doesn't have to be there all the time but she wants it and he lets her bully him- then he gets mad and wants sympathy. I can't say anything or he gets angry with me.

So, he is home now taking a shower then we need to shop for her then go back over there. He says he will stay until midnight and come home for a few hours then go back.

I have a lot to get done but will take advantage of going to the grocery store for a few last minute things. He has to go for her so not like it is just for me-

No gifts wrapped- not a lot to do BUT do have about 15-16 gift bags to fill for my friends at zumba. Lots of little treats/things. Fuzzy knee high socks or fuzzy sock sets for the ladies, one guy is getting a water bottle in his(he uses a glass Arizona tea bottle) and the other one, a beanie with a light in it because he is always working out in his garden after dark . It is cold and he is bald ;)
Found some back up Christmas cards. Can't find the large container with all my cards- Dh, trying to "organize" has moved them and no idea where they are- Not a big deal. I have enough. They are going out a bit late but better late than to just skip it.
So far, I have received one card.

Tomorrow is the Christmas cantata at church. Really looking forward to it. They do such an amazing job.
I will post the link for anyone who wants to watch it tomorrow afternoon.

You know your household is dealing with long-term medical issues when the one and only Christmas card you get is from the local chemist. :)

That's OK ... I don't send cards so it's doubtful I'll get any. But it did strike me as funny to get one from this particular chemist. They know me by name now!

Chiropractor - I've been going to one since I was in my early teens, on and off.
These days, it's common for them to have their patients go to a GP to get a referral for the X-ray, as that is the less expensive route.

Work-related gifts - we can't receive gifts from outside parties in my office, and we don't exchange gifts between fellow employees anymore.

Insulated lunch bags - a council I worked for years ago gave all its staff something sort of like insulated lunch bags for Christmas one year. We ended up with 2 of the things because both of us worked for the council that year. Within weeks, they started appearing in OP shops. We still have ours somewhere, but I'm not sure what to do with them.

Coffee - I drink 1 or occasionally a smaller second cup of strong coffee a day. Any more than that and I won't sleep at night, or won't sleep well. I was drinking 2 cups each day up till about 6 months ago ... cut back to 1 and my sleep quality improved.

Evergreens - most of Australia's native plants are evergreens.

Most daylight hours - today! It's so nice!

Sunscreen blinds - on that note, we got sunscreen blinds for under our existing roller blinds. I was going to wait till January, but we have 3 windows that get a lot of sun and it was always hot in the house. I emailed several companies. One answered right away, the guy came to do the quote the next day, and last Thursday the new sunscreen blinds were installed. They're fantastic!

I woke up at 4.17 am. That's four and a half hours sleep. :*
However, I then did about half an hour's exercises, which was great as I had not done much yesterday, apart from walking up the street, and endlessly up and down stairs. Tried to get back to sleep, but my brain was churning, so I gave up trying and did the thing I have been putting off, which is transferring my book text from my tablet to my laptop. I had about three long sections to transfer, plus a revision section. So I revved up my sad old laptop, waited for it to fire up properly, and got that done. Then copied it to Dropbox. A few hiccups along the way, but no disasters. :D All done by 6 am.
Good to have that done before Christmas. And now I can think, over Christmas, about the next section, which is about uncertainty and anxiety about the future. How to deal with that. I know I'm not going to actually write in the next few days, but I can gather some thoughts. :)

Watched 'What's Up Doc?' yesterday. Loved the farce elements and the car chases.

New episode of 'Death In Paradise' this evening. New lead detective.

John is icing his Christmas cake today. As always, I will post a picture of it. It always looks the same, but hey ho!

Must use up the spinach in the fridge, so it's probably some kind of fish tonight. Will search for salmon in the depths. Last night was homemade pizza, and asparagus. We've found that asparagus goes very well with pizza!

Love to all. Heather UK xxxxxxxx
