Hello beautiful ladies!
Sorry I disappeared. Christmas is just overwhelming for me. So many extra tasks and nothing is good enough. My Dad really wants a big Christmas with lots of people around and I can't do that for him. Normally two adults would negotiate how much to do, but he doesn't remember agreements. He just makes his demands or complaints over and over.
Plus he is getting worse at night/day confusion. I used to get two hours of alone time in the early morning to have my tea and post, but lately I get interrupted a lot.
And he needs me to take him to church now. He walked home by himself last week. He didn't get lost that I know of, but he was supposed to catch a ride home or call me, and he can't be trusted to do that anymore. I have a lot of baggage around the idea of church, so I really hate being forced to go. I will try to hire it out after Christmas.
Plus my meds got screwed up after the diverticulitis. I need to take care of myself better.
So I haven't baked a single cookie, sent a single card, and I've only done one present so far. I'm so far behind. I'm barely keeping up with dishes and laundry.
It's been a year since my mom died. I took my Dad to the cemetery but didn't mention the date, and he never remembered.
I've been escaping into my romance books. Then I feel soothed. And I had tea with my Aunt, and we cried over Mom.
My sister's daughter-in-law shattered her kneecap falling on ice, so now she has them at her house. That makes four little kids, and six adults. So her plate is full.
Teddy is still coughing a lot. But he is a loving fuzzball.
So I'm just overwhelmed, and of course then my digestion gets bad. My diet and exercise are terrible lately. I stopped taking vitamins, and I can feel the difference. It feels like I don't have the time or energy to get anything extra done.
My Dad's adult day care is closed for two weeks for the holidays. So I won't get any breaks, unless I hire my sitter.
Sorry to complain. On the whole, I still have food and shelter and friends, lots to be thankful for. I'm just feeling the pressure. Hope you all are doing better. I'm back at page 12, maybe I can catch up reading later today.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Debbie - I didn't realize your MIL had toileting issues. I can see how it adds to the caregiving burden your DH is sadly shouldering. I know you've mentioned before that she needs to be in a home but would likely be kicked out due to her nastiness. I understand your DH's depression and being at his wit's end - he has no idea how much longer this will go on and the responsibility for you both is overwhelming. I'm surprised you guys are doing as well as you are. ((((HUGS)))). Yes, please post the link to the cantata, it sounds very nice.
ANNIE!!! Welcome back dear one! You'll see we missed you a lot. You have so much going on right now just keeping your head above water with your dad. Sending many ((HUGS))). Wish I lived closer - I'd babysit your dad.
OK, early reminder here to get Weekly Check-in info to me by noon tomorrow for those participating (in case I don't make it back on the group today.)

You don't have to do any of that. Those things are not important.
Please take care of yourself, starting with seeing your doctor and getting your medications back in order.

Annie I second M.
As you know the stress you are under is a large part of your digestive issues. Unfortunately it makes it even more important to try to eat better. I started my new way of eating in the final days of my DH life. I just knew I needed to do it to better handle the end stage. Agree finding someone to take dad to church is worth it. Do whatever you need to do to handle this difficult time. Did you get him into a daycare program during the week days. We did that for my MIL and it did help some. Super big HUG!3 -
Annie ... So much on your plate. My mom did not remember the anniversary of my dad's death that first year either and now, two years later, has days where she does not remember his last name (even though it's the same as hers). There is nothing you have to "do" for Christmas. Your dad will most likely not remember what he asked for or what actually takes place. Please take care of your health and please hire/ask others to help you with your dad. Praying you find a measure of peace through these next few days. Hugs.
Today my husband and I have been asked to light the fourth candle on the Advent Wreath and share a small reading that was prepared by the church office. My husband handed me the reading part and said he would light the candle. Have nothing planned for the rest of the day ... yay!
Only 1 degree this morning when I got up. Going to be a cold day!
Beth near Buffalo8 -
Holy moly how things change...
Kyle threw a fit at 6 this morning because Miles wouldn't keep quiet.. so he broke the new to her walker I got for Delia yesterday, ripped the snowsuit I got her ,ripped down all the Christmas decorations and told Tracy he wants a divorce.
So they have canceled Christmas eve celebration and Im just sick about it.. I feel so bad for her and the kids.8 -
Hello, my chickens,
Annie - Just glad you're OK. Better advice already than I could give from those who know. Holding you up from here, dear heart. We worry about you because we love you.
Allie - Hope that things get better with your daughter. And your son. And your brother. Holidays are tough sometimes, and that stress ripples in all kinds of ways.
Hope the weekend is treating everyone well... Was up early, but not sweating it. Haven't built a fire yet, am still in my workroom, and won't settle into the living room until after noon. In other words, am leaving it for Corey to do once he gets up. 😜🐈⬛😂 Feeling lazy.
He cancelled the house hunt with his brother, Pat, yesterday. I think he just wasn't in the mood, mostly, but he did get out and got a lot of wood split and enough in the house to keep the fire going all afternoon and then some. Then he trundled off to the grocery store, put gas in my car, and got everything we need to get through Christmas and out the other side, which I appreciated, as well.
I still have that one more doctor visit in the early morning tomorrow and then I don't have to be around other people 'til Christmas day. My test results came in (even the urine test they said they couldn't do) and most of it is good. Iron's great, kidneys are in good shape, but my thyroid has gone up again, which will probably mean they'll be increasing that medication. Typical progression. Might be part of the increase in my joint pain, though. Would be nice if upping the medication resolves some of that. Pain wears on you after a while.
We did invite Pat out for Christmas day - he's all alone in that little camper trailer, couldn't bear the thought of that. Corey's making lasagna, and I'll make focaccia for garlic bread. Super easy, no-knead version makes up really quick in the morning, and will be ready by dinner time. No stress.
Well, I dinked around with this for a couple hours, time to get a couple things done.
Love y'all!

Annie, good to see you back. Take care of yourself. Hire someone if you can to do stuff for your dad and keep checking in with us.
Allie, so sorry to hear about Kyle getting worse and how hard it is for you and Tracy and the kids.
We have friends coming over for a visit after lunch. Fortunately we feel no need to make any special preparations except that Jake had a store bought pie in the freezer and took it out to thaw so we'll have a treat to eat.
Slept late this morning and have to pick up groceries at 8 so my walk in the dark will be shorter than usual.

Lisa - the antibiotics finally started doing their job so I’m not in as much pain today. Hopefully tomorrow will be even better.
My own doctor wouldn’t give me anything, which is why I went to the walk in.
I’m not a fan of my new doctor.
Jenifer - love the kitchen
Heather - one of the ladies at work was complaining about her smoke detector chirping. It’s a hard wired one and will cost a fortune to repair. I think I’ll stick to the battery operated ones. Ours is within easy reach for me.
Margaret - I love that brooch.
Allie - what wonderful news for Dan. I’m with you, I find Krampus very creepy!
Beth - it’s nice to read your mom is more peaceful. I found my Mom’s Alzheimer’s seemed to slow its progression a bit after she settled into the home. I think it was the social aspect for her.
We aren’t allowed to accept gifts at the home. However, families will bring in trays of baked goods, chocolates, stuff that can be shared amongst all staff is and that is accepted gratefully.
What a tree!
Heather - that jacket sounds cute. I have heard good things about the weighted blankets.
Lanette - I bought a Tupperware brand fridge smart container and I think I’s paid for it in having lettuce left over alone. It’s incredible.
Barbie - It’s supposed to be beautiful here this week. I think I’ll go for a walk to look at lights. Not far, my boots hurt my feet when I’m in them too long, but I might try.
Barbie - I have told both of my girls that if anything happens to me that they need to tell my ladies.
Some of you have other ways of reaching me though.
Machka - I find most gifts from employers just an advertisement for them. However these lunch bags are plain with no markings. The staff are mostly liking them, the one group with a certain union received a metal container with a fork, knife, spoon and reusable straw with brush for cleaning as their Christmas gift from the union. They thought we went together on it.
Annie - it’s so nice to hear from you. sorry things are so overwhelming right now, I hope you find some peace soon.
Allie - Big hugs to you. I hope that Tracy gets out of that situation, she should have a long time ago in my opinion, he’s going to be hitting her or the kids soon. Terrible situation.
I have been writing a note off and on for a couple days now, but too tired to stay up and post. Maybe doing it early this morning will work.
On Friday we had our Christmas luncheon and gift exchange. I received 4 little candles, 2 coffee mugs and two packs of Laura Secord hot chocolate. I may give the mugs to the kids.
I didn’t go back to the office afterwards but went and picked Jonah up and did some shopping for Rodger’s gifts.
The store we went to ended up putting us in rush hour traffic so we didn’t fart home until almost 7! It was a much longer task than I was expecting.
Yesterday I went and picked up a gift for Kaitlyn 35 minutes away. I should have just bought it from the lady at the craft fair weeks ago, but couldn’t decide that day.
I then stopped and picked up a couple gifts for Jonah and Ryan.
I worked on my scrapbook when I got back, after our supper of homemade subs I helped Jonah wrap his gift to Michaela and I wrapped Kaitlyn’s gifts. She’s coming today to help me finish my wrapping, cut her father’s hair and wrap his presents to me.
I may make lasagna for supper.
I have to share this story about Jonah’s wrapping.
He has never wrapped a present before, so I taught him at the same time. He bought Michaela a squishmallow that is part of the Pokémon apparently one of the main characters. He thought it would be good to wrap it in a Poké ball, I didn’t have a ball but we were able to wrap the box in that style.
Anyway, we were done wrapping and he proclaims that he will be known for generations to come as the best brother ever. There will be a museum in his honour and the only exhibit will be a statue of him.
I told him I was going to post this online and he said it was fine, it would just help him get famous. I love his sense of humour and confidence.
Well I should rearrange my fridge so I can set the turkey down in there to start thawing. I should also get some ground beef out if I’m making lasagna.
Have a great day ladies!

Rushing to let everyone know that I heard from Annie. She says:
hi yes I'm okay. Sorry I didn't mean to disappear. Christmas is just overwhelming for me. I will try to post. Thank you so much for caring!
Michele NC5 -
So sorry for those having a stressful Christmas. Much love to you.
My feeling is it always helps to talk it over with a professional or charity. I turned to the Samaritans twice when I was in a bad way, and they were a real help to me, psychologically, when i was desperate. There's Age Concern in this country, and many Women's Aid charities. A listening ear can help get us over the hump. I would also visit a lawyer to establish my rights, options, and protections. You don't have to do things alone.
John Iced his cake. I watched the last half of the proceedings, but steeled myself to let him do most of it. I did offer advice and helped move it onto the stand. It's heavy!
Then he chose the decorations. 😉
I think he is quite pleased with the result.

Heather - And well he should be pleased! That's a labor of love if ever was.
Tracey - So glad the antibiotics are working. Maybe ask the ladies you work with if they have a doctor they like? Jonah is a stitch, he really is.
I keep forgetting - There are probably a dozen people on here who either have me on FB Messenger or my email or my phone number. I'm easy to find.
Corey decided to go exploring with his brother, so the house is lovely and quiet. Trying to decide between the many projects I have in progress... or nothing at all. Haven't decided yet.
Later,
Love,

Lisa- how I miss a fireplace... both my mom and I just loved having a fire going
Yes Kyle does need psychological help but will not get it.. and he has a terrible temper..no wonder Carmine moved out..
Now im worried to bring the kids Christmas presents down wondering what he will do with them..
It is 17 degrees here with a windchill much colder.. im staying in.6 -
Snow – I’d be happy if it would snow everywhere except the street. It IS nice to look at. But I must say I’m glad to be in NC where they are religious about their snow...God put it here, God will take it away. And He usually does by about 11a.m.
Lisa – I sent annie a note here on MFP but it wouldn’t surprise me if she didn’t answer. That’s the only other way I know to get in touch with her. Sure hope everything’s OK
Rita – when I first glanced at the pic of the haircut you were looking for, I thought it was pip.
Rebecca – I haven’t made the Meyer’s Lemon bars, but I do make another lemon bar and I’ve never had a problem freezing it. I would think you wouldn’t have a problem freezing the Meyers
Michele NC
That’s probably why I like it! LOL

I remember when Gloria in Olympia got hit by a car years ago, we were able to find out what happened - maybe her last name was part of her user name on here. Barbara, Rita and Carol have my email address.
By the way, when Barbara emailed me her Check-in info last week, she said she was super busy and hoped to catch up one of these days.
Rita - love your haircut!! I didn't even notice that spot on your nose until you mentioned it. Did I wish you Happy Birthday? If I didn't, Happy Birthday. I can't keep up, lol. Birthday dinner at Chili's sounded great.
Beth - I need to get back to 2 days a week of 16:8 IF, just skipping breakfast. That's how I got into the mega coffee habit.
I read an article on the Silver Sneakers website this morning about walking after meals and glucose. I've been house-walking for 15-20 minutes immediately after every meal. The article said to wait 30 minutes after a meal to let digestion start and make sure glucose is released in your bloodstream. And if a person can only take one walk, do it after dinner. I'm wondering if my light-headedness could have been related my walking so quickly after a meal. I'm going to change things.
Here's a link to the article if anyone is interested:

I think I'm stocked up for a week grocery wise. I got a large plastic container of salad greens, and the one I grabbed had a "best by" date of January 3rd.

Pssst…. My birthday is March 3 and I will be 69 this year. Scary number! 🤪1 -
going to be a long day- went to bed late(stayed up later than I should getting thing wrapped/put together for tomorrow's zumba Christmas get together. We will do half class then go out for Mexican food and get to visit.
Got a call from DH at 3:30AM- saying his mom had slipped out of her recliner yet again, he couldn't get her up and needed my help. Drove over there, barely awake just to have her not let me help her. I was NOT in the mood for that. Ended up leaving her on the floor with her moaning because her back hurt for an hour and a half until medical transport came and took her to Kaiser. Dh is with her now. I came back home and surprisingly I was able to go back to sleep a little. He called at 8 to let me know they are doing all kinds of tests on her. For the first time, she didn't care who was in the room and started verbally abusing dh in front of the nurse. She said she will help get dh the help he needs because it is not good for either of them.
We are hoping they put her in a rehap or something to help her get stronger or what ever reason. Just to give him a break.
Got all the cats inside fed- need to do the outside and catio ones still plus do all the litter boxes.
Having my tea and checking in here for a few minutes.
Have almost an hour and a half before I leave for church.
Figured I would have to go over to MIL's this morning, just didn't expect it to be 3:30AM.
May actually take a nap this afternoon. Need to make a few more batches of cracker toffee before I do that.

Allie ~ First, want to congratulate you on your weight loss. I agree with others that if some things don't change Kyle will end up hurting Tracy or the children. He needs help! I remember when you said he threw Carmine's AC out the window because he was mad.
Debbie ~ Could y'all possibly have a dr declare the mother incompetent and put her in a home?
Annie ~ Hugs and just want you to know that we all feel deeply for the situation you are in with your Dad.
I have eaten too much over the last week and I am up 2 lbs. My husband is wanting me to make sweets for the Holidays an d know I will end up eating too much of them.
This is after I tried to do some what I thought were gentle exercises and hurt my knees, side, and shoulder. Guess that means this old lady is falling apart and should not even try to exercise.

Annie- I am so sorry you are going through so much.
Holidays sure aren't the way they used to be.
You do what you can and don't feel guilty if not everything your dad wants doesn't happen. You are one person and can't do everything.1 -
this is dh's last message to me- still at Kaiser
"She went off on every one while I was out they told me to leave I'm waiting on a social worker right now
They are sedating her
No filters
The social worker is here"
Finally others can see how she really is. She is not the poor sweet little old lady that is being abused by her son. She threatened to call the police on him, again, because he wouldn't give her her pain pill when she wanted it-saying he is denying her her medication. Was way too early for another dose.
He keeps telling everyone, he is not the person to be taking care of. The last social worker told him to just put her on a plane to Japan and be done with her. Like that is going to actually happen. Sure won't now that she has alienated the only relative over there that might have helped her.
Heading to church- going to enjoy the peace there.

Awe Annie, know a check in is fine, even if it is just your name and a thumbs up sign. We just care about you💖.
Was you Dad a fan of the old Christmas specials? Like "The Bing Crosby Show" or "the Andy Williams" Christmas Specials? That could calm him maybe? Those shows had all the family, the fanfare and songs your Dad might like and get caught up in. For me I just have Xfinity so I say into my remote the show and it comes up on like the YouTube option.
If you gave him a plate of regular cookies and told him "lets just pretend they're Christmas cookies" that might be fine too.
No stressing, what you are doing is enough! Do not think you have to do all these Christmas chaos driven tasks! Also realize its a fine line to walk wanting to give him all he asks or demands of you, yet try to be realistic, but treat him with respect, yet not feel guilty. So stop. Breathe. Ask yourself what is the most important task right this minute. And just do that. Think of life in tiny bites. Good bites, ucky bites, but don't think about the whole feast. That's what is overwhelming. I think most of what dementia facilities do for patients is using distractions because it puts them in a manageable mental state. Know that even if you did everything you listed you "needed" to get done, your Dad would probably not notice. So just don't do them. There is no DIY Christmas Organization that will come and arrest you for not baking, or buying, or decorating. I promise!
Hugs

Good Sunday!
Annie Good to hear from you! I agree with all that has been said. You must take care of yourself. If your Dad needs you to and from church could you not see him into church then enjoy your book in car until time for him to need a ride home? Just a suggestion. You are no good to him if you don't care for yourself though!
Allie Kyle scares me! I wouldn't take the gifts over. I would just ask your daughter to bring the children to your house.
Christmas cards are my one must for the season. Mine will be posted tomorrow, so late this year, but for some folks it is a just keeping in touch. They really are becoming a thing of the past but I will keep doing as long as there is a post office!
I have made the bed, cleaned the cpaps, finished cards, cleaned up paper clutter from kitchen, dining room, and living room. I really wanted to wrap gifts today and bake some cookies.....instead I shocked my DH and traumatized one kitten. I vacuumed with the large hoover, then shampooed the carpets. Will need to vacuum again once dried all the way.
Remember to take care of yourself first (this is to me also). We are no good to others if we are down and out!
Have to go decorate a little Gravely truck for our hillbilly parade on our street tomorrow. The nice thing is it is in a heated garage!
Anyone who really would like a Christmas card from me or just other contact information, just let me know!
Lots of Love

Got a message from dh in the middle of church to call him. Called him when I got out-
The update is- MIL got both verbally and physically violent with the nurses. They tried different meds to calm her but she fought it and they didn't help. Finally restrained her(she pulled her iv out and was scratching and trying to bite them) and then sedated her with something that actually helped some. They sent dh out, told him not to go back in. He is at her house now letting her dog out- He hasn't really slept in almost 2 full days.
They are trying to set it up that they keep her there for two days while we try a care home that will actually take her. Right now, none will take her the way she is(maybe if they just sedate her the whole time-just my suggestion). What ever it takes to give dh a break.8 -
