Oh no @Teresa502 . I hope your back is better tomorrow. Tippy lets me know that she knows I am having a puppy affair when I get home - she sniffs and sniffs at my clothes.
Oh no @Avidkeo ! I hope the surgery went well and you heal quickly.

69.77/80 mile goal
The temperature was a nice 47F (8.3C) this morning. I planned to run outside, but I procrastinated long enough that the wind started blowing really hard. That made it cool, plus dangerous to run under the trees, so I opted for the treadmill.
I ran/walked for 4/1 min. Runs were 4.5, 5.0 - 5.2 and 6.0 mph. Walks were 4.0 and 4.1 mph. Avg pace was 12:06 min/mile. Avg HR was 121 with a max of 150 bpm.5 -
Hey all.
Well December got away from me, then yesterday it really got away from me...
Pics are adding for some reason. Anyway I broke my leg doing something stupid (on a skateboard). Am now in hospital waiting for surgery.
So won't be running for a while
Damn it
WOW! So sorry to hear about your leg. Wishing you a speedy recovery!2 -
Managed to beat the rain for a short run today. In the mist and very warm.
@Avidkeo not sure what you broke but hope that all went well with your surgery. I have a t rod in my right femur from a spiral fracture in '97.... Time will heal all!
@quilteryoyo are you sure Tippy is not a cat? Mine definitely have to give me the once over when I have been around other critturs.

I already have new shoes ready. My right foot feels better, but now the left is swollen and red. Not able to get up on my toes at all. I have PT appointment Monday, so hopefully they can help me with some exercises for my back. I am tired of the spasms and maybe they can help me learn something new. I am going to pull my miles back down for January and hope to be back on the road by spring. I have kept my running streak and I managed to push 100 miles in for December.

Thanks guys
Sadly no surgery yesterday. It is a busy time of year for injuries. Hopefully today. Got some sleep last night so that helps.9 -
It rained overnight and early this morning. It's been cloudy all day with a high rain chance but I went to our local park and got in 7 miles during a dry window. I only saw two other people who had brought their two dogs out for a walk. And squirrels. Squirrels everywhere!
Hope you can get your needed surgery today @Avidkeo. Glad you were able to get some sleep last night.4 -
@Avidkeo Sorry to hear about your injury! I hope you don’t have to wait too much longer for surgery!
Today I went on an easy 11.1km run. I forgot my watch on the charger!!! So no watch. I suppose I was more sad about that than I should have been, but it was so nice out! It was about freezing, the ground was hard and the sun was shining. We haven’t had sunshine around here in many weeks, so there were quite a few people outside soaking it in while they could.
212.5/200km for December.

Got caught up on everything I think.
Great race report @quilteryoyo! Sounds like the race organizers are slowly working the kinks out. Congrats on the PB!
@Avidkeo Broken leg!?! I'm so sorry to hear that. Pls keep us posted.
Glad to see you back @chris_in_cal!
@tarun_yadavA Your trip looks like fun. Except for the night wildlife excursion which sounds terrible.
@Scott6255 Sorry to read your knee was acting up. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery.
Someone asked about 2025 races along the way. I have a 5k, 10k, and HM in CA (Disneyland) with a friend in late Jan, RnR LV in Feb, Myrtle Beach HM in South Carolina in March. That's it so far but need to start making some plans for later in the year.5 -

I'm up for College Station December 2025 or Houston Jan 2026

Glad you were able to beat the rain today @SummerSkier . Hahaha about your cats. I think they all want to know when we are loving on other animals.
@AlphaHowls Do you think you hurt your left foot by favoring your right one when it was hurting? I'm glad the right one is feeling better and hope the PT can help you out with your foot and your back. Cutting back on the miles sounds like it is helping some. Hopefully a month of lower mileage is all you need. Thanks for getting Jan thread ready for us. It's hard to believe 2024 is almost over!
Sorry you didn't get the surgery yesterday @Avidkeo . Hopefully they got you in today and all went well.
Great run @Teresa502 . The squirrels are probably getting ready for the cold weather coming over the weekend.
Hahaha @Laurz9191 . I understand. I would be upset if I left my watch at home too. Glad you had a nice sunny run.
Thanks @martaindale . That sounds like some great races coming up. I need to look into making plans for more than just Dec for 2025.

@WarmJellyfish I think I got you!

171/150km so far. I seem to have underestimated this month.....
I'm over 700km this year from last year. 2271km to date. I think I need to shoot for 2500kms for 2025. Number rhymes.
Just did my first ruck walk in a while, 40lbs and 3km. That sucked, on a flat course. Definitely need more practice.
I'm eyeing my first 100k trail run race in later 2025. Gulp. Going to need all the help I can get, I'd be happy if I can make the cut off.
@AlphaHowls Strava request under Dicte
@Avidkeo get well soon!
everyone else, great running!5 -

72.80/80 mile goal
It was 59F (15C) when I went out for a driveway wun this morning. I went a tad bit slower (walked a little more) because it had rained a little overnight which made it slick in spots. Avg running pace was 12:57 min/mile. Avg HR was 130 with a max of 154 bpm. Splits were 13:09, 12:45, and 12:54 min/mile. I was happy with that.
It's supposed to rain hard tonight and tomorrow morning so I cleaned out the gutters and swept/blew the leaves off of the porches and part of the driveway. All of the leaves have finally fallen, so I shouldn't have to do this again for a few months.
Mom and I were able to enjoy this warm day by taking the neighbor's dog, Esther, for another walk.
Tippy checking out Esther's scent when I got home.
Tippy and I took a stroll in the neighbor's field. She's been wanting me to for a few days.
View on the walk. If you look really closely, you can see the mountains in the distance.7 -

132.03/125 miles completed for December
I started to post on Thursday, but I never finished. I had to work and I didn't get up as early as I needed to, so I just had time for 3.25 miles. It was a pretty good run, but I was tired and really not wanting to go to work. It started to rain about the time I was getting home so I was glad I got it done before the thunderstorms. Friday I ran 6 miles. It was pretty uneventful. Today was my rest day, but I did take the dogs for a walk. We have been dog sitting our son's corgi, Ein, this week while they were visiting his girlfriend's dad. They took Ein home today, so I figured I would get one more walk in before they left.
I hit my monthly goal on Thursday. So I successfully completed all of my goals for this year. I will have to start thinking about next year's goals.
@avidkeo Sorry to hear about your leg. Here's hoping that you are able to get the surgery and start healing soon.
@alphahowls Hopefully some lower mileage will have both feet feeling better soon.
@martaindale I hope you weren't affected by the storms in Houston.
Good to see you back @chris_in_cal.
Pretty walk @quilteryoyo.

Another month completely wasted. Giving this one more shot in January... #staytuned6
-
Great running @kgirlhart and congrats on meeting all of your year goals.
@capewrathultra I don't think your month was completely "wasted." You did get in a few runs, as I recall. Don't give up. Remember, you only fail when you quit trying.1 -

Thanks. I'm not throwing in the towel, yet!2 -
Hi everyone!
I procrastinated for a couple of hours this morning after seeing everything covered in frost out the window, but eventually talked myself out and into the cold. It was definitely below freezing, but I had the right clothes on, so it wasn’t bad. The path was a bit frozen in parts so I was worried about slipping and falling, but once I got to the trail there was more grip. I ran 10.1km. Oh yeah, Garmin had me doing a sprint workout and I got a 0% completion. I couldn’t really go all out without worrying about slipping - but I think I deserved at least a 10% for effort . I didn’t think it was that bad.
22.7/200km for December5 -

Sorry I haven't been very present in the group the past couple of weeks, I had a lot to do before going away and then spent the Christmas week at my parents with all my family. A few opportunities to do family walks and my sister ran with me.

Hi all! Just got caught up on posts. So very sorry to hear about you leg @Avidkeo! That’s a real bummer! Hope it’s now set for recovery. Rest up…
I hope the back of your knee is better @Scott6255.
@SummerSkier the ankle is slowly getting better. Mostly walks with short 1 minute jogs every so often. Need to ease back into it slowly.
Great running and walking by all of you! And so many of you are meeting/exceeding your December goals. Way to go!
Thanks for setting up January @AlphaHowls 😉6 -
I have a Garmin watch question: I was doing 5K training plan workout today. It said 5 minute walk for warm up, then 4 minute walk followed by a 1 minute rune, then repeat this 3 more times, then a 5 minute walk for cool down.
So, I started the workout, did the 5 minute walk and the first 4 minute walk followed by the 1 minute. I thought that my watch would now say I’m doing the 4 minute walk again for the first repeat, so I didn’t look at my watch after the 1 minute run. After a few minutes I looked at my watch and apparently it was doing the 5 minute cool down.
Question: was I supposed to somehow tell my Garmin watch that I needed to do the repeats three more times? My assumption was that it does it on its own automatically. I thought that’s what it did the last time I had a workout with repeats. (Maybe without knowing it I accidentally hit a button on my watch which messed things up.) I don’t know…. I have a Venu and it’s a touch screen.
Any thoughts?4 -
So finally finished up my goals for the year with a little breathing room to spare. 😎
It was a really pretty morning so I ended up getting one of my longest runs this month with 9 which makes this month the most miles I have gotten in running. I had not really planned it "as per my usual modus operandi" but felt pretty decent and not running in the drizzle and warm humidity really seems to help.
The sunrise was really pretty altho it sort of did the wintry try to cloud of thing the rest of the run.
@AlphaHowls thank you for setting us up for January! ✅ Love that meme!!!! Sometimes I feel like that frog.
@daria0919 nice to see you getting some activity in. I don't know about garmin but on apple watch you have to tell it how many repeats you want to do when you are setting up the session.
6 -
@Laurz9191 I think you deserve at least 50% for getting out in those temperatures. LOL Great running.
@Emilienewme I love that you got to run with your sister! You both did great.
@daria0919 My guess is that you accidently hit the segment button on your watch. I've hit it, meaning to hit stop, and it goes to the next thing. It should have done the repeats, as you recall from before.
@SummerSkier Congrats on meeting your yearly goal already and for having your highest monthly running total this month. You're doing great!
Thanks for setting up Jan @AlphaHowls ! I love that meme too!6 -
