Today was my long run day. The weather was great. I was pretty chilly starting out at 47°F, but it has warmed up to 67°F by the end of the run. I was planning on 10 miles, but it was so nice that I ran 11.

Great running @kgirlhart ! I would love to be at the point to where I could run 10 miles and then feel so good that I decide to do another.
@AlphaHowls I'll have to think about that one.3 -
I ran 5 miles with a couple of friends this morning. It started raining about 5 minutes before I got to our meet-up point and it rained (lightly) for the first couple of miles but after that just an occasional sprinkle or two. This brings my monthly mileage to 89.10 miles. I was MIA the first few days of the month so I never ended up setting a goal.
Thanks for setting up January @AlphaHowls and for the questions!
Sorry @Daria0919. I have a Garmin but I've never downloaded a training run to it.5 -
@kgirlhart @Laurz9191 @quilteryoyo @Teresa502 you folks are killing it!
@AlphaHowls good points to ponder!
@Daria0919 Did the plan say to press the lap button? Sometimes it does that and then if not, it thinks its over.
It snowed overnight making for a rather slick run this morning. Had to change the gait plus tired legs from the weekend made for a shortened 6k.
I am NOT looking forward to the rest of the week. That is about 0F.... . But if it doesn't kill me, it will make me dumber umm I mean stronger...

I think thats called running a marathon....just throw in another 6.1 miles since you're past 2/3s ....3 -
@WarmJellyfish That is cold!! I think I would opt for a treadmill on Wednesday and Thursday . You definitely need the right clothes in that weather! My ears get cold just think of those temps .
Today I wanted to do an easy run because I have a 10km New Year’s Eve race tomorrow, but my oldest son wanted to bike to a friend’s house and have me keep him company on the way. He was obviously much faster so I tried to not make it too painfully slow for him . After dropping him off I tried to go slower on the way back. It was fun to have him as a training partner for a change. I ran 7.7km.
I don’t know about my expectations for the race tomorrow. Christmas has not been a “lean eating” time for me exactly and I haven’t been doing intervals that often, and I didn’t do any kind of taper, so I don’t feel like I can go out and run a super race, but I will do my best and maybe have a bit of fun . The weather should be pretty cold at around freezing and there will also be some wind, so not exactly the most fun racing conditions.
239.4/200km for December.6 -
Nice run @Teresa502 . It was a little chilly for a rainy run. I'm glad it didn't rain the entire time.
@WarmJellyfish You did great for a slick run. Have to be careful and not fall again. We don't need anymore broken bones on this thread.
@Laurz9191 Sounds like keeping up with your son was a good way to push you a little more than you intended to run. I love seeing people on here exercising with their kids. It's so important that they learn early that exercise is important and fun. Good luck on your race tomorrow. I hope the weather conditions are a bit better than expected and you have fun!3 -

149.35/125 miles completed for December
I overslept this morning, but luckily I was planning a shorter run today after my long run yesterday, so I was still able to get 3.25 miles done. It was a little windy this morning, but overall pretty nice at 56°F. It looks like it will be colder the next few days, although nothing like the temps that @warmjellyfish has to deal with, so I 'll try not to complain too much.
@martaindale and @scott6255 I'll have to think about running the BCS Half. It would be a lot of fun to run through the campus, but I have never traveled for a race before. I will have to see what the schedule and the budget will allow.
6 -
Ok @martaindale let's do it! 🙂5
-
@martaindale and @Scott6255 - Do you know the race date of the College Station races yet? I'm intrigued and love destination races plus a group meet up! Our small airport now has direct flights to DFW and right now airfare for November 2025 (it won't let me look as far as December) is only $407 round trip to College Station. @quilteryoyo - meet you at the airport? Come on @kgirlhart and @SummerSkier - any other Texans?
You're doing great with your gym workouts @quilteryoyo!
Good luck with your race today @Laurz9191!
That's cold @WarmJellyfish! Be careful out there.
@martaindale - Are you doing the Myrtle Beach "mini" marathon or the half that is associated with the full? I've done the full but I think it was in February when I ran it and I ran the "mini" (have a super cute medal from it) but it was in the Fall I believe.

Winding the year up with 466.4 miles. The last few months have been pretty dismal.
This morning's run/walk was 3.14 miles.
Now I feel like having some pie.
Onward to 2025.6 -
@Teresa502 I looked on the website, but they still only have the 2024 race info up. Guess we will have to wait a bit for them to roll over to 2025. But VERY excited we may have a group going!!!
Now I just have to get healthy...3 -
Is this the race location you’re talking about @Scott6255?
Looks like this year (2024) they had a 10K and 5K option, but for 2025 they’ve replaced them with relay teams.2 -
Hi everyone. Bit behind on posts...
@Avidkeo sorry about your leg
@Teresa502 hope your back gets better soon.
Anyways. I did it!!!
6.84M at 11"35.... Brings up 2024 miles.
Thank you everyone for your support.
HAPPY NEW YEAR

I went to Physical therapy yesterday, evaluation. I left still not knowing and the therapist didn't either.
He suggested to try nerve flossing, and since I have never heard of it, much less done it, I read about it and might as well try it.
See you all next year!6 -
Congrats @tarun_yadavA! Got it done and on vacation no less!!
@AlphaHowls I have a friend who uses nerve flossing for a neck/shoulder nerve impingement and has had really good results. Also knew some climbers that used some of those types of maneuvers when they had elbow problems. So, small sample size but seems effective in the right situations.
@daria0919 Yep, that's it!
@Teresa502 It's the Sham-rock and run HM. There is a 5k and 10k but no marathon. March 22.5 -

12/28: 12.3 miles
12/30: 6.4 miles
12/31: 2.6 miles
Logging several runs to get caught up. My kid and I went camping for a few days after Christmas so I did a few runs in a state park on trails. Really enjoyed that park and am planning to go back. They also had some bouldering at the park so my kid did that. I hiked along and manned the crash pad. They did great and also want to go back. All-in-all a great way to wrap up the year. See all of you in the new year!!

@tarun_yadavA CONGRATULATIONS on your RTY 2024!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 💪🥇
@daria0919 yes that looks like the building blocks of next year's race.
@AlphaHowls just jaw-dropping mileage as ever!!!!!!!!!!!! You are a monster!!!!5 -
Congrats @tarun_yadavA!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎉
My total run/walk/steps for December turned out to be 81.03 miles, which is way more than my predicted 55 miles (after November being just a bit over 50 miles total), so I’m pleased.
Ankle is less swollen most days, but still hurts at times and still puffs up a bit at times. Hoping to continue to ease back into more walk/runs next month.
Congrats to all who made/exceeded their December goals!! 👍🏻👍🏻7 -
@AlphaHowls an extra special shout out to you for your AMAZING running record!! You inspire us all!!
As far as nerve flossing….. a while back (maybe 2-3 years ago) when I was dealing with tingling/numbness in my right foot my doctor sent me to PT for it and it definitely helped. I continue to floss (both my legs and my teeth 😁) regularly!
My physical therapist used a band very much like this one in photo below (BTW - I used to look like that once! 😆) and so I bought one and use it fairly regularly.
7 -
I was catching up on reading all the posts I missed, then realised I had better post my pathetic December mileage before midnight… all of 5.33 miles/8.57k on two runs (the 26th and today). Knee/hip now seem fully recovered from whatever happened back in November (still a mystery), happy to be back. See you all in the January pages!5
-
Great running @kgirlhart .
Thanks @Teresa502 . I'll have to think about the Dallas HM. Depends on the dates and whether I want to keep doing the one at the Cape or not. The idea of a lot of us meeting up and maybe you and I traveling together is tempting though.
That's great mileage @emptydog . What kind of pie?
Huge Congratulations @tarun_yadavA ! You are awesome and sounds like an interesting last run of the year!
You are AMAZING @AlphaHowls ! Excellent mileage this year and for the streak. I've never heard of nerve flossing either. I hope it helps.
Nice running @martaindale and glad you and your kid enjoyed your camping trip. That is a great way to end the year.
@daria0919 So glad to see that you exceeded your goal by so much and your ankle seems to be doing better! And, I never looked like that. LOL
@AmunahSki So glad that your knee/hip is better! See you in Jan.3 -
Hi everyone!
Just wanted to leave a short race report and tell everyone thank you for all the support throughout the year! I really really do appreciate it!
My race went better than expected. It was cold and uncomfortable but it was so cold that I never really got hot during the run. I went out waaay too fast but after the first km was able to settle into a very uncomfortable but doable pace. I just keep ticking off the kms in my mind and not really thinking about my overall time, just maximising what my body could do. I ended up taking over 1.5 minutes off my time from last year and getting a recent PR (I don’t know if I could top my college 10 running time at this point)! I must have look exhausted when I finished because the race official asked me if I was ok after I crossed the line. I did feel fine after a few seconds . I was pretty shocked about this. Anyways, the race went well. I got my salami prize and drank done hot tea after it was over.
That brings my daily total to 12.5km including my warm up and my yearly total to 2803km.

81.65/80 mile goal
I unexpectedly had to go into daycare today. I told them yes, but that I needed to leave as soon as possible because I had a lot I needed to get done today. I wound up working 4 hours, until noon.
Tomorrow, we're having the traditional New Year's Day food at William's (my neighbor) and then having our family Christmas dinner and gift exchange at my niece's at 3. I'm taking deviled eggs to William's, and deviled eggs, Oreo Balls, and buffalo chicken dip to my niece's. So, I spent the afternoon cooking.
I tried to use my time wisely, so went out for a driveway wun while the boiled eggs cooled and the Oreo balls chilled in the fridge before coating them. I was really tired, so did pretty much a true wun...mostly walking with just a bit of running. Avg pace was 14:22 min/mile. Avg HR was 130 with a max of 151 bpm.
That brought my monthly total to 81.65 miles. I went the extra 1.65 miles so that my yearly total would even out....845 miles total of running/fast walking. That is a lot less than last year's total of 1014 miles, but I'm still happy with it considering I had 3 trips this year and started going to the gym.
I looked back to Jan and these were my stated fitness goals for the year:
1) Continue my streak of at least 1 mile ran or walked fast. WIN
2) Average 85 miles a month. ACTUAL average of 70 miles/month
3) Shoot for 1020 miles total for the year - run, fast walk. I will count other exercise (mowing, tennis, trees, cleaning gutters, etc.) for RTY, but not all steps I take. My goal for RTY will be 1500 miles. Fell a bit short of this one
4) Improve my time for the T-Minus 10 miler WIN
5) Lose back to my goal weight - from today, that would be 14 pounds! Yikes! Not quite there, but am down 10 pounds
I'm not unhappy about any of that5 -
Congrats on your great race and PR @Laurz9191 ! Excellent mileage for the year.1

You did great on your yearly goals @quilteryoyo!
Happy New Year everyone! 🎉 See you all next year!

Oh gosh. WOuld love to meet you all and sounds like a super training incentive for this year! But I don't think I am up for a half. Perhaps if enough are going tho I will drive over and be support for the team! I have been to College Station a lot. LOL.5
-
Dec and the year ended well. I had probably my best mileage month but I felt like my eating was off and I think for the New Year I am going to try to make better choices and be less all or nothing.
....was thinking about why New Year's resolutions tend to fail spectacularly 99 percent of the time. And I think it is because it is sort of an all or nothing thing and once the "resolution" is broken it feels like you have lost. No mitigation. No recovery. Like the diet yo yo effect. So for all the things I want to work on and accomplish this year I think my resolution is that I will give myself grace to not be perfect but to just keep trying and if I stumble. I will get back up.
I am usually pretty good about that and do not typically make the usual resolutions but set goals and want to work on habits.
