I will be cooking a lot this week- Went to Walmart yesterday evening to get cat food and litter. Checked the meat department and they had so many deals- Roteserie chickens(whole roasted chickens) for just $2 each, bought 5. One was going to be for my friend but he didn't need/want it. 2 racks of pork ribs $5 each plus a large pack of burger patties. `12 patties for $5. We had just picked up salmon filets that were half price.
Burgers tonight(easy because I have class).
In the morning I will pick up all the chickens from MIL's fridge beings we didn't have room in ours and she is not home so she cant tell us no, I will bone them all out. Portion the meat out and simmer down the bones for broth.
Tomorrow evening we will have the salmon/ribs- will cook both and everyone can choose what they want.
With some of the chicken I will make chicken salad, chicken noodle soup, enchiladas. Plus I am sure the cats will get about half or more if dh has anything to say about it
We were not expecting to find any deals on meats at that time of the day on a Sunday- You never know.5 -
Machka: Your new place is a great fit for you, with those views.
Lisa: I know what you mean about alone time. I’m lucky that mine spends so much time in the garden. And we like different TV progs, so have several
TVs. Works a treat. Always eat together, and like Heather and Johnnie, spend time together each morning.
Fancied macaroni cheese this evening with some of the left over turkey breast, broccoli and cauliflower. Yum. We will take some of the Christmas treats to DED’s tomorrow, and get them out of the house.
I need a manicure. My nails are making it difficult to type on my phone 😂
It’s after midnight, so will stop here.
🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

We got our Christmas decorations put away today. Because of my bad knee I changed my movement goal to 4000 steps. I actually got over 6000 today in spite of my bad knee. Today was my first day with no Aleve in preparation for my surgery. Now Dave says the weather forecast says there’s a chance of snow on my surgery date. Good thing the weather is likely to change.
I did not get the filing done that was on my to-do list. Maybe tomorrow. I like to start the new year with my paperwork in order, but goodness! I hate filing.7 -
Hello, my friends
I got some Sushi with my son, and we talked a lot. I put away some of my Decor. I need to figure out what to do with my Christmas tree and take down my mom's tree, too. My dog left me for my son. I am so happy; I believe they need each other currently. He needs help in setting up counseling. I learned that working at the hospital with me for a couple of years taught him compassion. Yet, it is tough for him to let go of some of the pain of losing patients. I just learned some cruel things that the personnel tried
to place upon him there. For one, a doctor asked him to tell a patient that they had cancer. I would have written an I-care report against that doctor if I had known sooner. He said it made him grow up faster than the kids at his school.
DS was also worried about my marriage to his father. I told him that I and I were close and I would not divorce him unless he cheated, did drugs, drank, or laid one hand on me, so that made him feel better.
I am trying to get back on track with exercise and diet. I was started all over again on MFP. I was up to 250 days, I believe. Oh well, I guess it is time to start all over again.
Barbie, take care of yourself. You are on my mind and heart. I know you have a lot of decisions to make with the funeral arrangements. You are in my prayers.
Pip, you look beautiful in your Christmas pics.
Allie, you are a wonderful woman to look after your Ex and everyone else. I hope everyone appreciates you. I pray for Kyle and Tracey, too. I worry about Tracey because I remember how sensitive I was after having a baby.
I wanted to say something else, but I am so fatigued that it would be best to close now.
Have a fantastic night, and take great care of yourselves. Do a facial or a mani/pedi. Self-care is so important.
Sincerely,
Mo from Mississippi

Michele - I have one of those mats for puzzles still in the box. I need to dig out the puzzles Rodger bought me for Christmas a couple years ago to do them.
Terri - busy few days but lots of family time. That’s the best!
Lisa - we really need to expand and heat Rodger’s workshop. He enjoys it so much. We don’t spend a lot of time together because he tends to go to the bedroom to watch tv. I just feel he needs the outlet.
That will be a wonderful building. It will be done before you know it. The years seem to go so fast.
Sorry used that way is about as bad as it gets here too.
So many abuse the “power” they have over children, it’s so sad.
I understand why Kelsey would want to see those areas while she can without cost to her but boy those are far places. I could probably visit her in Alaska easier than you.
Machka - I think it’s wonderful that your home feels like a vacation home.
Kaitlyn’s place is like that. I love going there. If I could convince Rodger that’s where I would watch Ember.
Barbara - I hope your nephew continues pulling through.
Debbie - I went to Costco today specifically for some new totes that I can organize in better. They are a bit bigger but also straighter sides which makes a big difference!
The size fits better in my shed too, but of course they were all sold out. 😕 they were in sale too for 9.99 each.
Flea - I was going to ask Rebecca the same thing! I don’t know where you are, but I think South or West based on the greenery.
Allie - those grands are so sweet!
Mo - glad you were able to have a good talk with your son.
Michaela came for her sleepover and shopping today.
I ended up spending some money on her, for her birthday. She bought herself a new baby and some diapers. She has 6 babies now, all with names that she remembers. On the way home she said that she was happy that she got a new baby because the girls wanted a new sister for Christmas and had been disappointed. 😂
Then an abrupt change and she bought jewelry, coloured hair extensions, lip gloss, a tiara, and was acting like a teen.
We were going to take the tree down tonight so I had room for my new shelf but my plantar fasciitis is really flaring after all of my walking today. I think I need to put the splint back on for a few nights. I painted her nails, toes and fingers, then she painted my toes. Then she wasn’t feeling good.
I’m watching the last season of Blue Bloods that I had recorded, I think I have two episodes left.
Rodger and I are having a silent thermostat battle. I turn it down, he turns it up. It’s all within two degrees which you would think wouldn’t affect either of us but it sure does.
I think I’ll try one degree lower tonight.
He seems to get chilled a lot more often down these days. I don’t know if it’s a side effect of diabetes or what.
I guess tomorrow I’m taking the tree down and building my shelf that came today. I’m hoping to convince Rodger to do something for NYE but I doubt it will happen.
Have a great day everyone.

Christmas Decorations - I grew up putting the decorations up on December 1 (or as close to it as possible) and taking them down again after January 8th.
The decorations can't come down before the Epiphany and Orthodox Christmas!!
Given that we're organising a cycling event the weekend after January 8th, there's a really good chance our decorations will be up till at least January 17th. But I do like to have them down by Australia Day - January 26th.
New Year's Eve
Spent a while on the deck in the sunshine reading my book and drinking coffee. Finished my most recent book.

More digging in the garden with my trusty mattock. The section I'm digging will be for 2 fairly large (eventually) Protea plants. I must check again because somehow I thought there was a 3rd smaller one, but I could be mistaken. I also spent some time raking the mountains of kikuyu I've been digging up into a pile closer to the house and out of the way of where I'm digging.
There isn't much on TV this evening, so we'll either watch a movie or set up our new "All Regions" DVD player and watch some of one or the other sitcom box sets we got as Christmas pressies for each other.
We might be able to see fireworks from here ... maybe. We can see the mountain behind the city, so it's possible ...
I'll be thinking about Highlights from 2024 next.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be more than
2 lbs a day for no apparent reason. - A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

Happy New Year's Eve! The countdown begins!
Terri - I always enjoy reading your Daily Solid Habits that you post from time to time. I know they've been a positive influence for me.
Tracey - I get a such a kick out of the quality time you spend with Michaela. How neat your grands live close and that you are so involved in their lives.
Kay - Good job getting your steps in despite that cranky knee. I'm sure you are counting the days until it gets fixed.
Heather - I'm becoming a big fan of cod. Tried a new recipe yesterday - coated each piece in beaten egg, rolled in grated parmesan cheese (with some spices added) and baked on a cookie sheet. They didn't brown like the recipe showed, but were still good.
Mo - glad you were able to spend some quality time with your DS and catch up. Let me see if I'm understanding this right - he is taking Rose back up to NY or has he moved back into your area?
Got my home insurance bill yesterday. Up $400 from last year, but that's not a surprise considering how home values have skyrocketed. I know many older folks in my area are going to have a hard time keeping up with the insurance and taxes too.
My Christmas tree is still up, the little lights add a lot to the room on these dark days. I'll take it down and put things away after Collette leaves this morning and has the place cleaned up. Glad it's an artificial tree and I don't have to mess with pine needles.
I miss Vicki, Betsy, Kelly to name a few. Hope everyone pops in. Think of all of you often.
You ladies east of me - get ready to bundle up, looks like the freezer door will be wide open for you.

Happy New Years Eve!
I am sitting in the dark and the quiet of the farmhouse living room. DH is still sleeping. I woke up at 5 am but managed to doze back off until 6:30. Am catching up with you and drinking water. Just not feeling the coffee yet. I heard the rain hitting the windows earlier.
2024 highlights- Travel, Family, New experiences
2025- Better time management. I need to be doing instead of scrolling and playing games on my phone. I have difficulty with strict schedules so I have started setting reminders in my phone for things that must be done routinely. I am horrible at taking meds/vitamins so have set up a system on my kitchen counter to make sure I take them. It isn't a lot and I dislike that it is on my counter, but it has been working. Feed kitties, take meds, switch up arrangement so I know I took them. I can make better choices and decisions. Using my calendars will help with time management.
Continue to recognize who owns an issue Again, that has gotten better but still needs improvement. I can only control my actions and reactions.
Be more vocal as to my needs This is especially true for work.
Remember my acronym- GLAD daily With this in mind first thing in the morning and reflecting at night. Grateful, learning, achieving, and delighting every day.
I am Grateful for all of you wonderful ladies! I need to finish a training module today for work -Learning. Not sure on the Achieving today or the Delighted in, but will keep you posted.
Hugs to all!
Make the best choice you can in the moment!
No drinking and driving especially tonight!

Did my first Instagram post in a long time today. Just saying how much I appreciate my continuing recovery from my ops, and slowly gaining more energy.
What a strange year this has been! I feel as if I spent most of it in bed! I hope next year will bring more freedom and I can REACH to experience new things.

Morning, my chickens, from the suddenly frigid Arkansas River Valley,
You'd think it was winter or something! Lanette - Close the freezer door! Lordie. Ah well, at least it's dry - no rain or snow expected until Sunday. I need to go out and get wood this morning to fill the wood rack and get a fire going. Corey split a bunch more this weekend, but didn't get much up to the house. That's OK, it won't kill me. My knees won't like it, but then again, they don't like much. Only getting up to 46 (8C) today and dropping below freezing by morning tomorrow.
I'll wait on the weight (ha! sorry) until tomorrow. Highlights for 2024 - got a lot of things made, and this third biologic medication finally got a LOT of my life back for me. I feel good - sooo much better than the beginning of the year.
Corey and I have no plans for New Year's Eve, or as he put it when I asked what we were doing, "the same thing we do every night, Pinky." It's a quote from "Pinky & the Brain," one of the very few cartoons I have watched as an adult and thought was funny. The argument of course, is which one of us is Pinky (the goofy mouse) and which is Brain (the genius), who is always bent on world domination.
Tracey - So love those pictures of Michaela. I can tell she feels utterly safe and loved with you. Every child should have that person in their lives, and shockingly few do.
Grandchild drama:Which reminds me... Our daughter had to get her chain of command involved in getting her kids back, with them contacting the command at her ex-husband's base, and them getting the MPs involved, in order just to get her kids to the airport on time to catch a flight back home to Hawaii.
This is the third holiday visit since the divorce, and it has happened Every. Single. Time. If they both weren't still soldiers, she would have no recourse whatsoever. The flights cost more than $1,000 to get her there and get all of them back home, and if the flights are missed, the airlines won't care - it will just cost her even more.
It's possible he thinks if he makes it hard, she will leave them there - which shows he never really knew my daughter at all. She is a fiercely loving mother--and it kills her to have to leave them with him at all. Ah well, I can't fix that one. All I can do is read my daughter's increasingly frantic texts until she finally has her kids back in her arms.
That all reminds me, though, I need to go find Levi's wish list for his birthday - He'll be five next week already!
Onward and upward, kids... time to make something, write something, film something. Not sure what (still working on those systems... ) But something. If I don't drop back in before Barbie posts the January thread, I'll see you next year!
Love,
Lisa in AR

Yes, there will be a new thread for January. It is high on my list of things to do today.
I have enjoyed reading what many of you have posted about goals, resolutions, systems and how you plan to approach moving forward toward better health in 2025. My word for 2025 is "enough" which is the same word I used for 2024. It addresses not only my possessions, but also the good systems I have in place. I don't need a new exercise or a new resolution or a new goal. I just need to be sure that the ones I have stay in place. I want all my healthy habits to be as part of my ordinary life and habits like bathing, brushing my teeth, wearing clean clothes, feeding and walking the dogs.
My healthy habits have served me well during this trying time. I don't have to remind myself to eat, bathe, walk the dogs, etc.
Oops dogs are bugging me. Gotta go.

Lanette You are right! The temps are falling all day today, but next week....we have 4 days only forecasted in the teens for highs! Snow forecast is from a couple inches to 12 inches. I know it is winter, but.....dark and cold are hard on me mentally.
More training to do...

Barbie, darlin', it's good to see you. I think of you often, and look forward to moving into the New Year with you and everyone on this thread.
Whew! 30 minutes of hauling wood from the woodshed, 21 at "vigorous," and 5 at peak, for 1600 steps, burned 200 calories, heart rate averaged 132 bpm. I'm really happy with that, as keeping my heart rate in reasonable bounds for exercise has been hard, due to the AFib, as well as the medications for it.
As my Alaskan husband always reminds me, wood fires warm you three times - once cutting, splitting and stacking it, once when you haul it in the house, and once when you burn it. Still haven't started a fire, 'cause I don't need it yet. Not cold! 😂 Egg is unimpressed with the wait - all that fuss and commotion and noise, and no fire for her to lay in front of, you know. When she starts bringing the wood in for me, I'll be willing to give her some input into scheduling... 👀😹😂🐈⬛
Happy New Year, Machka, and all our English and Irish sistren are next, I believe. They're about the same time/distance from me in the spacetime continuininuum as Machka is from them. (The c-word there is a loving tribute to Terry Pratchett, y'all. I may have to re-read his books once more.)
Before I swanned out to drag unmilled lumber all over the landscape, I did get one script filmed. Time to edit it with extreme prejudice.
Love y'all,

-GET TO THAT DARN GYM ALREADY. 🙄😂😂. Why do I make excuses when it really does make me feel better? Its only a small part of my day and will make the world of difference in how I get around in the world.
-get out the measuring containers and use them for portion control.
-take a vacation from sweets! Buy fruit and sugar free jello and puddings instead.
-Eat small meals. Stop the large meals with the mindset of intermittent fasting.
-stop with the sodas, cookies, candy and chips. I have survived Christmas and the feasting and "I deserve it" mindset is over.
I need to also read more, and detox from social media. My life has to hold more substance less tablet play.
Its a lot to tackle. But I will try my best.

All your goals Rebecca, except the Gym, which I will replace with walking and yoga, I need to begin again. I feel crummy today, allergies acting up due to the 76 degrees here at 11 am, with a breeze. I would add no more wine to the list. Gaining a pound a week rather than losing a pound a week since Thanksgiving is not healthy for me! Next week I see the therapist and kidney docs who I will mention this depression and weight gain too. Perhaps they can help. I also have an eye exam that same week. First one since my cataract surgery, so I’m kind of excited about that. I know I need reading glasses, but want to know what strength is best. I’ve tried several strength and and not happy with any of them.

Happy New Year to all of those who have already arrived there! I have just under 13 hours to go. The mister is smoking a brisket and burgers and we may invite a meat-eating friend over later. He bought the smoker after visiting my dad earlier this month and he's been smoking up the neighborhood nearly every day since.
We are planning a big vacation in 2025. It'll be difficult to plan, will take a long time, and will be very expensive. But, it should be a great trip. In the summer, I may be going to England with my niece to help her get settled for her study abroad summer, then pop over to Ireland for a bit. Toward the end of the year, we will go somewhere else. So far, no summer guests. I'll be turning the guest room into my space, which will likely mean I'll get rid of the bed in there and make it a pull out sofa. Maybe the guests will stay less long.
Still thinking about you, Barbie.
Sending good thoughts to you, Allie, and the family. It sounds like a rough time at the moment. Like others here, I worry about Kyle's state of mind and for Tracy and the kids' safety.
I'm enjoying reading all your goals for the next year. I do like the idea of giving more compliments. I might steal that one. I still need to finish my estate planning. I did start it, but just need to finish it.
Hugs to those in need.
