Well... I haven't logged my food consistently in a very long time. I'm now 54 years old. But I'm not just 54 years old. I'm 54 years old with young kids - one 1 year old and the other 3 years old. I also have a 19 years old from a previous marriage.
Why all this background verging on TMI? Well because I believe it to be important for people to know why I'm suddenly logging my meals, exercises and my weight each day. I need to get back into good shape. No... I need to get into amazing shape!
See... prior to my divorce, I had been on a health kick. Logging my meals religiously. Watching my calorie intake. Running 5k each night. Lifting. Intermittent fasting. Eating high protein, high fat, low carb meals. I lost 50LBS in a little over 4 months! I was in the best shape in my life since I graduated from high school. Then I went through my divorce and I stopped all of that and started drinking heavily. Eating like crap. Getting about 3 hours of sleep per night. Workouts completely stopped. I gained all the weight I had lost and then some. I figured, "What's the use? Why should I care that I'm getting back into my fat clothes?" Under all the stress... I stopped seeing what my purpose was. Even when I still had my, then 12 year old son, visiting me once every other weekend. I stopped seeing that he needed me to be a good example. I was too caught up in my own drama.
Then, surprisingly... I met a woman who would eventually be my second wife. I really didn't think I'd ever get married again or that there would be anyone even interested in dating me given my condition. But yet here we are.
My wife is much younger than me. Like I said earlier, We have two very young sons. She's much younger than me. As our family grows and as we continue to build our lives together. And as my son from my previous marriage is hitting me up for more guidance. It is clear. I need to be around for a long time. They are my purpose. I need to be around for them.
So... here I am. Getting back into my old workout routines. Getting back into intermittent fasting - with some adjustments. Back to my old diet - again, with some adjustments.
How about you? What's your story? Why at the ripe age of your 50s are you getting yourself back in shape?

Congratulations on finding your "why" (very important step to success) and the new family! I personally don't feel that 50 is a "ripe, old age", but that's probably because I'm in that age range as well.
How is the new year starting for you? Are you implementing your plans? It's great to want to not only be there for your kids, but to also set a good example for them.1 -
Wonderful story! I am about to turn 51. I have been up and down in weight, but never obese. I have a 7 and 12 year old, a great hubby, and a fast paced job. Despite drinking much in my 20s, I drink a lot now to manage stress. I have been very public with friends and family. I am going dry for 2025. I have all kinds of health and fitness goals, but that is the primary behavior change I am making!3
