Have a question for the good oldies here. I'm already 60. How do y'all handle the aches and pains in the joints? Sometimes I struggle to even even get up after sitting on the floor. My mind still thinks I'm 20 and tries to bounce up but the bod says nope. I've tried epsom salts, hot baths etc doesn't work. I think Advil is my friend on some days. I do have some osteo and gouty arthritis most joints thanks to decades of physical exuberance thanks to martial arts and army fitness craziness.

@quilteryoyo I think my sleepiness and stumbling during runs is related to low blood pressure and low sugar levels. It's funny because I have hypertension and am T2 diabetic so sugar is usually high but have lost a bunch of weight since.

@Mari33a so sorry for your loss

@WarmJellyfish I'm not a big fan of supplements, as so many of them promise you the world, but they don't always deliver. That being said, I DO try different supplements, and when I find ones that work for ME, I keep using them. For my bones, joints, and muscles, I currently take Glucosamine HCl with MSM, turmeric, and a combined magnesium-calcium supplement. I've been taking them for many years, and the pain in my knees have all but gone away, and I rarely get muscle cramps (which I used to get in my sleep).

@SwimBikeRunRepeat thanks for the recommend! Unfortunately I seem to be allergic to the Costco one I took. I need to find a hypoallergenic version.

@ContraryMaryMary Great running. Love all the pictures. It looks like you have a lovely family and that's a fantastic holiday house. Enjoy the rest of your stay.

Sorry you are still having pain in your foot/ankle @daria0919 . Be careful out there on that ice.

    Nice cold run @kgirlhart .

I hope changing shoes helps @tarun_yadavA . I was looking forward to some good shoe porn though.

@Mari33a Nice run. I'm glad you finished before the hail storm hit.

@WarmJellyfish Losing weight probably has helped with those issues. Have you been to the doctor since you have dropped the weight? They may want to change your medicine. As for the aches and pains, I am blessed to not have much most days. The heating pad is my friend at night.

Welcome @SwimBikeRunRepeat . This is a great group. I sent you a Strava follow request. I'm Vicky R.

Nice run @Emilienewme . I'm no help when it comes to running gloves. Since I normally run on a treadmill when it's cold out, I don't have any. My hands do freeze though, so on the rare occasions that I run in the cold, I just use regular gloves. I have heard that mittens are better at keeping you warm.

You are braver than I am, running on ice @Laurz9191 .

Nice run @AmunahSki . Glad you enjoyed it.

Just followed you on Strava @swimbikerun_repeat.

@WarmJellyfish, I take magnesium, which is great for muscles - I’m not too sure about joints but I find my joint pain is directly related to tight muscles. I also do (try to do) at least 15 minutes of yoga daily. This does help hugely. In the morning, it’ll set you up for the day, at night it helps you fall asleep.

@ContraryMaryMary Thanks, Mary! Sent you a request, too!

    Morning all
Thanks for the kind words everyone 🙏🏽

    Still not much better.

Will continue over weekend. Taking it easy & Will keep Deep Heat-ing / icing alternating.

If its not better by say, Monday... I'll book in with my foot guy and take a break from running

    🤞 Fingers-crossed for a speedy recovery!

What is your running challenge for yourself this month? Will you post your runs here?

@chris_in_cal My main running goal for the remainder of January is to build my base (walking to running, consistent routine). My distance/time goals are based on the Strava challenges that I have already entered: 365 minutes walking/running, 100K (62.1 miles) in distance. I'll also post my runs here.

P.S.--I'm just up Interstate 5 from you. 🍻

@quilteryoyo Yep it was previously modded. Might have to change it some more...
    @ContraryMaryMary thanks!
@martaindale there is something nice when running in those kind of cold temps. Feels like one can go forever
@tarun_yadavA hope your foot gets better soon
@AmunahSki, I have gloves, toque, balaclava, mittens, puffy jacket even winter boots in the car 24/7, around here those are essentials lol
    @chris_in_cal weights can be addictive...
Just followed some folks on Strava.

    Hi everyone!

I’m glad you got out for a heart surgerversery run @quilteryoyo !

@Emilienewme I often use gloves while running. I have some cheap lightweight gloves that I just keep on until I warm up and they are so small I can stuff them in any pocket. If it would be significantly below freezing I would need warmer ones, but for “just” freezing or slightly above they are great. I wouldn’t want to run with hot hands. The cold bothers me much more to not have a headband or hat on than to not be wearing gloves after a few km.

@chris_in_cal I hope the fires are far enough away from you that you and the winds die down soon!

    01.01 1.5km 12min 7:59/km - storm
    02.01 2.0km 16min 8:08/km
    07.01 1.4km 12min 8:19/km
    09.01 3.0km 25min 8:23/km - snow, lots of it!

    7.94km

It snowed all day. Temperature is just above freezing, thus it won't last and running involved small stretches of salted roads, deeper snow or mush. Not fun, but it was great to be out.

    Jan total 37/110 miles
    YTD: 37 miles

    1/1: 5.9 miles
    1/3: 4.4 miles
    1/4: 10.4 miles
    1/6: 5.4 miles
    1/8: 4.4 miles
    1/9: 6.5 miles

Interval workout today. 7 x 3:00. It was cold and a little windy. The first 2 were into a headwind so they felt harder and were a tad slower than target but the last several were spot on once the wind wasn't an issue.

My arms and lats are sore from Pilates. Signs that I'm building those muscles back up.

@kgirlhart That snow is pretty. I'm glad you didn't have CoVID and hope you feel better tomorrow. Not running on icy roads is smart.

Thanks @Laurz9191 . I, too, need to keep my head warm in the cold. I get like an ice cream headache if my temples get too cold.

    Great workout @martaindale .

    Nice @Mari33a .
