Sober and healthy in 2025

Hey all! Im Amber, 41 yrs old, a widowed mama and a mimi, and a recovering alcoholic/drug addict. My story has had allot of ups and downs, mostly downs for the past 5 yrs. At the end of 2010 I had a gastric bypass when my weight was at its highest at a little over 350 lbs. I ended up getting down to between 150- 185 lbs and kept it off for years until my husband passed away almost 5 yrs ago. I ended up getting really lost in alcohol and addiction for a few years, went to rehab 3 times before finally getting sober and staying sober since early last year (2024). Unfortunately, with my sobriety I ended up gaining weight back. Now im trying to focus on getting my health back on track, getting more active, gaining tips, advice, and motivation, and getting to know other people on a similar journey. Im just ready to feel good in my body again and be able to have the energy and motivation to be more active and involved in making better memories with my kids and family and create healthy new habits.

You already have an advantage if you’ve learned this “ one day at a time” mantra. In addition to my recovery chip, I have a 10 minute chip that I carry with me. The 10 minutes gives me enough time to make a phone call, read something inspirational, postponed a choice, do a chore, think it through. I can even stick it in my mouth and if I’m hungry 10 minutes later, then I can take it out and make a thoughtful choice rather than a random choice. If you look at alcohol as glasses of simple sugar, you’re getting over an addiction to many many calories that we don’t even think about. Congratulations on what you’ve done well here. And don’t forget that you can make a sober contact.

Amber, I'm glad you're searching for health and happiness. Sharing your story took real courage, that alone is something to be very proud of. I know everyone's own story is very personal to that person, and it should be. You are an inspiration to all of us who are going through our own story. You are reminding me how important it is to let the light shine in, and accept support.

Thank you for sharing. Keep moving forward. Be well.

Hi this is Debra I don't have problem with alcohol i quit that 33 years ago cold turkey. But my weight is a whole different story. I love to eat just to eat all the time. I decided I was going to lose weight and inches in 2025. I seen a picture I took after exercising with a 5 mile tape for 31 days. And I liked what I saw so I started not realizing it had been 3 years since I exercised. I figured I 'm old this is how I'm suppose to look. (ALMOST) 71 Year young! So we will see what happens i started at 161.8 on the 2nd of January which was obesity class 2. I'm in a week and a day and have lost 3 lbs and 2/10. I have told my sisters, brothers, friends and Mom I am trying to loss weight and gain muscle so I'm not so week. Because that way I do better because I have to be more accountable for my action. Let me know how you are doing!
