We're still icy in the mornings, and everything's still dripping in the afternoons, sort of slow-motion, chilly rain, as the remaining snow gives back to the land around these parts. The icy bits are still treacherous, though.
I found this out the hard way as I was dragging the trash wheelie bin back up the driveway. I tried to step over the snow in the center, didn't quite make it. The rut on the other side had a little ice under the remaining snow, and whoop, landed on my left backside in the middle of the driveway.
Somehow, I avoided impacting anything breakable, and in a very soft patch of snow. I learned how to fall three decades ago, when I weighed over 300 pounds. This morning, I can feel the muscles that got a bit of a twist, mainly in my left shoulder and hip, but overall no damage. I was lucky. And even better, I was able to get back up from the ground without a problem. A week of exercising came in very handy. All that was hurt was my dignity, and who needs that?👀🐈⬛😜
Heidi in NC- Well done, my dear, jumping into this group with both feet! Love adding new people to this incredibly supportive group of women. You're a great addition.
Mo - Always think of you when I think of great additions, dear heart. Hope it's a good shift this time, and all the babies are able to get better and go home safely.
Rori - Happy 69th birthday, my friend! Sounds like an absolutely lovely time with N.
Lanette - For me, when I'm hovering at the top end of my maintenance range, a number of busy days help a lot to get it down to where it should be. Plus I've found over the years that, when I'm exercising regularly, I tend to keep a pound or two more on my body. I don't know if my appetite goes up, or what, but it's been a constant cycle.
What I think is interesting is that, if I'm not mistaken, you're at least 7 inches taller than me (aren't you 5'9" tall?), as I'm 5'2" on a good day, possibly back down to 5'1" by now. And my top maintenance range weight is 155-160, about the same as yours, I think.
Right now, I'm in size 10 or 12 jeans (not that I wear anything but yoga pants!) and medium or large T-shirts, as I don't want them to touch me. I could be smaller, but I feel healthy and comfortable at this weight.
On the yoga pants thing (sounds better than "sweatpants," you know), I only wear black. I tried buying a navy blue pair and a purple pair when I bought new pants for the winter, and I hated them. Did not like looking down at my legs encased in those colors. I'm not getting older, I'm getting weirder! Well, and older too, it's not like I've got a choice! 👵🏼😜🐈⬛
Just got my "good morning" call from Corey - I slept nearly 9 hours last night! Love that, feel rested and ready to go. Will probably go into town this morning or tomorrow morning. Trying to decide still.
Later, my dears,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR
I have 3 pairs of yoga pants. All are from my sister. One is a jungle print so I describe myself as "Queen of the jungle pants" that day. The other two are just a pattern boring, but I wear them during my time at the gym. My other pants are black, jeans type pants. I wear those in the afternoons. I have more blouses than pants. As long as they hide my apron I am cool.

Kay ... we have an ongoing battle with squirrels and chipmunks (along with deer) too. I wasn't going to put it on a tree or the house either. We have a fenced in area behind the house and a very sturdy steel plant hanger that I've used with other feeders with some success. It's been holding up with the winds so far. My husband did some rigging on this steel hanger, multiple industrial sized zip ties (very heavy duty ones) and put the feeder on that. The solar panel for charging (solar panel in Buffalo ... that's funny!) is also adapted to face the south. The bird feeder itself is an anti-squirrel model ... Too much weight on the perches and the feeder closes a door on the feed. There's supposed to be a squirrel alarm/siren which I'll have to see how that goes! If the metal plant hanger fails, my husband is going to get a 4x4 piece of lumber and put that into the ground where we think it won't be disturbed. I will say, it wasn't just a simple put it up and away you go. My husband ended up doing a little bit of engineering to get it to work. Anyways, just an idea.

Rebecca. I agree about Tillamook products. The best. My mom used to bring me bricks of cheese when I didn't live in Oregon. TSA told her it happens a lot!
Good visit with new oncologist today. She said I was going to be her easiest patient of the day. I told her that I've also been called boring. She laughed and said that's also a good thing.

Rosemarie ...we give a treat after every trip outside with our lab too. He sits by the jar reminding us if we forget!
Annie ... sorry about your Teddy ...
Kay ... I tried the slinky toy suggestion for squirrels ... don't bother. They know how to use it like a set of steps!

We got baffles for the shepherd's hooks. They work beautifully.
Tina in CA
Our squirrels used the baffle as a springboard for getting closer. We have very determined squirrels. The vaseline works the best, but we have to be diligent and not let the weather wash or wear it off.

We have more problems with the rats. We have to keep all our plants trimmed back so they cannot use the leaves as springboards.4 -

Beth, I will get the directions out on our bird feeder at some point and see if I can figure out how to make it work for us.
You know how FB is always sending you suggestions for possible friends? Today, Lisa showed up on my suggestions. How does FB know these things?
Drove myself to PT today, then went to Target to return the 5 toilet rugs I accidentally bought. I’m not totally in love with the rugs I ended up buying, but they will do. I added two bath towels and two hand towels to my purchase and it was still $20 less than the ones I returned, so I’ll take that as a win.6 -

Make it a super day!

I think he is starting to calm down, well, most days.
Last night he said that beings I am going to take care of MIL's dog after I get done at the dentist, he doesn't have to get up. He is going to skip going to see his mom.
Lately he has been dropping me off to take care of the dog while he sees his mom and brings her a McDonald's coffee(even though they have coffee there). Last night she told him not to bring coffee because it was making her sick. She is refusing to eat, unless it is sweets and she is a diabetic.
He said he is going to sleep in today. He stayed up until after 3am.
No kittens in the house today to wake him up(they are at the spay/neuter "spa" today) and the rest of the cats are fed and are back napping.
I am heading to the dentist now then over to walk and feed the dog.
I'm going to the dentist too, today. Hope yours goes well. I just hope I don't get a coughing jag as I am getting my teeth cleaned...gaaah!

Dentist went well, didn't have to trim my gum like he thought he might have to and the roots look great, no root canal. Had to do two impressions- those are the ones that usually make me gag but just relaxed. Helped that it wasn't for the back tooth this time-easier for them to work on it.
After the dentist, went to MIL's house and walked the dog for an hour then fed him then called the eye dr to see if I could come in a bit early beings I was close by instead of driving home and then back out again two hours later. They said sure and got me right in.
Went to Chinese place with dh after the novicain wore off- food was ok, not great.Ate less than half of it- had vegetable deluxe chicken and garlic chicken with veggies plus fried rice- they put some of the sauce(just soy/oyster sauce/corn starch/garlic) over the rice so was a bit soggy.
Waiting to hear when the kittens will be back after their day at the "spa"
Dh wants me to go with him to see his mom to see if I can get her to eat- I am pretty sure she won't eat for me. Going to tell her, if she doesn't eat, she will not be going home. She is being discharged on Friday and will be going to the care home.

Debbie glad the dentist appt went smoothly. Mine did too. I told him, I have a boring mouth. And that's a good thing. Now my husband has a "dentists kids college fund" mouth. Having a sick liver all those years did a number on his teeth.
Vicki got your package of calendars! Thank you so much! I appreciate them!

Good evening!
The kittens are healing well and pretty much back to normal. Playing, jumping, climbing, and running. Their belly scars continue to look good.
The DH has been down all day. Stomach bug of some kind. He actually came home around noon. His sister dropped him off. He is drinking lots of water, had a nap, and had grilled cheese for dinner. Little room visits lessening.
We had a semi deliver equipment today. Even if he hadn't been a no touch driver he wouldn't have been any help. Barely could get out of his truck and needed a cane to walk. We don't have a loading dock so have to pull the equipment to the back of the trailer with a chain and then use fork lift to remove. It is easiest with two people. Yours truly was in the trailer hooking up the chain. Even then it took R and I an hour to unload. It was 20°F with a feels like 5°F. The wind was wicked! Funnily only my fingertips and cheeks hurt from the cold while out there. Afterwards my legs were freezing and I had to turn my heated vest on even though inside. Lots of bending and climbing.
Glad to "hear" fromAnnie. Now I know how y'all feel when I disappear. Sorry.
Squirrels may be cute but they are smart, sneaky, and resourceful, and damaging! I could do without them!
Hugs to all!
May your evening/morning be peaceful!

Carol – I doubt the hurricane has anything to do with the closings, we’re too far east of it. No, people around here just freak at the slightest even mention of the “s” word
Deb – is there a reason your dentist thought he’d have to cut your gums back? I know certain medications inflame the gums. Do you regularly have to have this done? Yea no root canal
Went to ceramics tonight. They built a Murphy’s gas station by us. There’s one in FL so we’re going to see if there is a gas discount with them. Now it might be worth it. Bowling tomorrow

I am 5' and no clue what size jeans I would wear, haven't worn any in years. Right now I am at 150 but want to get down to 135 at the most. Would love to get down to 128 but don't see that happening. Just leggings for me. Fleece line or flannel type in the winter and capri cotton ones in the summer- long cotton ones the rest of the time. I used to wear just plain colored leggings but started getting cute, brighter ones for zumba and really like them so get more of that type. The only thing is, they HAVE, HAVE, HAVE to be super soft and comfy and not to restrictive in the belly area.
All my clothes have to be like that. I feel before actually even looking at clothes. I rarely buy online because of this. If I do buy online, it is only from places with simple return policy.

we love Tillamook too. So glad we can get it here in N. CA. We always stop at the cheese factory when we are doing road trips up to Seattle. There stuff really is the best.3 -
Still cold here, no new snow. There is several inches on the ground.
Heather -- Sorry to hear about DS's boss. Glad they are getting your window replaced.
Tracey--Sounds like Roger's party was nice.
Pip--Love your home away from home.
Rori--Happy birthday. I agree N sounds like a perfect fit with you.
Kim--your homemade butter reminded me in the first grade we made butter and corn bread. I still make the cornbread muffins once in awhile. We only use butter so I watch for it on sale and stock up. Buying the limit several times.
Michelle--Thanks for the message from Annie, sorry to hear about Teddy.
Yesterday we went to the class at the hospital for DH's hip replacement. It's all set for Thursday. I just will be glad when it is over.
Then I got an message from unemployement and I will not be getting a check until after April 5 due to servance pay. It figures out a lot less per week than I was making and we used it to pay off acouple bills and to pay monthly bills and will be gone end of this month. One day at a time.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE3 -
Kim – let us know how the pricing works with the butter. Now I find that it’s less expensive to buy applesauce than it is to make it (unless you get the apples for free). Yet, it’s less expensive to make my own Greek yogurt. Tell me about the prices of things! The other day the price of eggs was over $4 for a dozen. I’m still using the butter I have in the freezer that I bought for $1.69. I’m going to cringe when I use it up
deb – I have no idea how much the place Jess volunteers at that does spaying and neutering charges. However, she wanted to do the 4 kittens and we just gave them a donation of $300.
Michele NC
Eggs here, even at Walmart and Grocery Outlet have been 8.99 a doz. So glad I get mine free from my mom. Worth the drive to get them at those prices. Butter is about $7 a pound. Some places have it for $5 on sale. Safeway will have their's for that price tomorrow. I bought a bunch right before the holidays for all the caramel corn and cracker toffee(each batch used 1/2 pound). Glad I got it on sale.
We were paying $25 at the shelter for spays but there is such a shortage of vets out here and so many strays/ferals that need to be fixed. Just getting an appointment is really hard. Going to the regular vet would be close to $300 each. We just paid $300 for the stray/ferals that have been hanging out here-one is the mom to our triplets then she had two more a few months later)
walked MIL's dog twice today. Came home this evening, rushing to get dinner done while waiting for our kittens to be returned home. Got it done- Shrimp scampi over either rice or pasta(they can choose), broccoli and a big salad to go with mine. Dh decided to lay down and take a nap with the cats, and son is waiting for his girlfriend to get here when she gets off work. Rushed for nothing. At least it is done. I am eating my salad. I will be done before the kittens get back here- need to set up a comfy spot for them.

Rori - Happy Birthday!
Heidi - I am not a fan of socks either. I even wear flip flops in the Winter as long as the snow won’t go over base of them.
My paternal grandmother used to drink buttermilk too. I don’t even see it here in grocery stores.
Kylia - I hope your roof leak is a minor fix.
Lanette - the m not finding it lighter in the mornings yet, but I’m noticing it at night.
I tried to explain to Rodger the other night that I thought January used to be more dark than it is now. I’m sure I’m wrong, but after Christmas used to seem so long and miserable and it’s not the last couple years. I don’t understand why.
I made myself curious by saying that
Sunrise and Sunset Jan 12 2004:
844am and 441pm
Sunrise and Sunset Jan 12 2025:
843am and 443pm
So I guess we have 3 minutes more than 21 years ago. 😂
Machka - beautiful sunsets.
Lisa - for some reason I don’t like coloured yoga pants either. I don’t wear them often, I’m in dress pants more often than not. I did fit into a pair of jeans on the weekend that I hadn’t been able to wear for 3 years but overall I don’t wear jeans often. Mostly I wear pjs at home.
I love your bathroom fixtures. That’s the look I am aiming for lol.
Michele - your prices make me envious! I’m not sure about a dozen eggs because I buy 30 for 10.99 at Costco. But I paid over 6.00 for a pound of butter on the weekend. A local store here has some on sale this week I found out yesterday for 3.99 so I bought 4.
Maybe there are exams or something going on with the school. I know when Kaitlyn took it the classes had to be so far along before they were allowed to cut so they had times they didn’t have students at the right stage.
Thanks for letting us know about Annie. She is missed.
Debbie - I’m glad that your DH is taking a bit of break from his mom.
I have warned my kids if they refuse to allow me to have what I want if I’m in a hospital or nursing home I’ll haunt them forever. I don’t want to be deprived in my later days and I truly believe that long stays in a home is not a life. I would rather have quality than quantity.
Rebecca - that sounds like a fun guy to follow.
Vicki - Hugs to you. It sure is hard to keep these days.
I didn’t sleep last night worrying about the payroll issue for a staff member at work and how I would prove it to corporate. I figured out a way and submitted my calculations today. They didn’t even respond. My manager returned from vacation today and she tried to get a response from them and they didn’t her either.
It’s very frustrating, they don’t know what the staff members lives are like or what’s happening and people need their pay. Every penny they are owed.
I feel that my job priorities are first the residents, we’re in their home.
2nd the staff - when staff is unhappy or mistreated how can they be expected to do their very best for the residents.
3rd - the families, it’s stressful having a loved one in there and we need to remember and have compassion and empathy.
In my opinion the business side is the least important part of the job. I mean I’m not naive, I know we need to bill the families and earn money to pay the staff and feed and care for the residents. But don’t let the procedures get in the way of care.
Im off to bed.
Tracey in Edmonton

Hugs Tracey.
I always have cold feet. I wear socks all year, unless it gets above 85°F. I wear them in bed, all year, and mostly wear two pairs in the day, including my thermal ones, this weather. My father was the same.
I'm awake early, with my son and his best friend on my mind. Of course, we saw my son yesterday and had a chat in the car when he gave us a lift home. I also got some gen from my DDIL at the school gate.
My son had been the one who had been asked to take his friend to hospital that day. The friend had thought he was beginning to get better from the life-threatening myocarditis, after many hospital admissions, but that day he had taken a turn for the worse, and was in pain. The wife asked my son to take him to St Thomas' , the specialist London hospital where he had been treated, but he couldn't make it, as the friend was in too bad a condition, so he had to take him to the normal hospital. They stabilised him and my son thought he would be OK, so went home. He died that night.
My son is in bits. They were like brothers. Met at 18, at university and kept close ever since. Plus, he was a real one off, the sweetest, most genuine person you could ever meet. Godfather to Bea.
My son has spent the days ringing people, which has been super stressful. He also has been sorting through his phone, which has thousands of unanswered texts and hundreds of unanswered emails. Apparently, his friend only dealt with people on the phone and wouldn't use other methods!
He came from a very difficult background, with a single mother and an alcoholic father. From that he built multi-million pound companies in the drinks industry. One of the biggest companies may be sold, as he was not a majority shareholder., and a multi-national has a big share. My son may get some cash from that, as he has a small number of shares. But the wife will continue for the companies as a sleeping partner, and there is another co owner, who my son is working closely with, to see how they can steer the companies through all this.
He is exhausted, and taking on far too much responsibility. Plus the grief.
I woke up early this morning and needed to write all this down, and I'm crying while I think about it.
Thank you for listening.
The friend has two sons, 11 and 7. More or less my granddaughters' age. The eldest has been breaking things and screaming. Bea has been asking, 'Can anybody just die? Not just old people? Who else will die?'
I expect we will be doing some minding in the near future.
Love you all, look after yourselves.

Hello Ladies;
Sunday, I had to work in the Peds ICU. Before that, I worked my butt off. I got one complaint from a parent because she didn't like that I wanted the mom to feed her child. I didn't know she didn't feel comfortable doing it. So, I told her I would do it until she was comfortable. I explained that we practice Family Centered Care. I told the mom that I can do whatever she needs. They said to them that we didn't "G-Haul." I don't know what that means. They want a caucasian nurse instead. They were black. Oh well,
I had a 26-year-old patient with Down Syndrome who flipped me off because I was explaining that we needed to suction her trach. My co-workers teased me all weekend about that. It was funny. Then she tried to punch me. Her mom was furious with her. My other two pooped all night. I had a little girl who was up all night playing and pooing. I closed all the rings on my watch by the morning even though I started over at midnight. So, I was so happy to go to PICU. It was a fantastic night. I just looked at "My Chart" and found out I had an appointment in the am. So, I saw my therapist and caught him up with everything. He says DH needs to see a therapist. I told him that Machka said something encouraging me to return to workouts. I want to be able to care for myself and my family.
Lanette, DS is leaving on Saturday .We had fun today walking around the stores. Last night, Rose slept with me. She was so close to me that I couldn't move. Rose is in my bed now. She just left DS's room.
Machka, your pictures are so calming and breathtaking. You are right; I need to take that first step again. Once I get started again, I cannot stop.
Lisa, you crack me up talking about your sister. You are so funny.
Heather, I am so glad you and DH are okay. I am so relieved that if the window was going to combust, it was when no one was around. I am glad that Veralux will be replaced for free, as it should be.
Allie, you look pretty in that picture. Delia seems like a good baby.
Tracey, I am glad Rodger's celebration went so well. It sounds like he had fun.
Heidi, welcome, and I am warning you that I have a gift for Gab.
Rebecca, you are a happy person.
Kylia, Did the cats knock down the cat tree, or did you set it up so they didn't have to climb? I love the dear pictures. When my fence was down, an entire family was in my backyard. They were so cute!
Barbie, when I lose essential papers, I panic, trying to find them. Typically, when I calm down, I locate them. So, I get it. I hope all went well with the attorney.
Carol, I hope all is well with you and DH.
Michelle, I am going to look up HIIT. I see that term a lot in exercise, and I want to know if it is aerobics or something else. With all the workouts you do, I picture you as Jane Fonda. At least you won't get bored with your exercise.
Happy Birthday, Rori!
I better go to bed; I have a pick-up at Sam's Club tomorrow morning.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

Wonderful surprise today ... granddaughter number 2 arrived!! She's a little bit early.
Climbed 25 flights of stairs today ... plus some walking.
Buttermilk - my mother told me that she always hated the taste of buttermilk, so we never had it. OK by me as there are a number of dairy products that don't agree with me anyway ... and regular fresh milk tastes sour to me.
Beth - sulphur-crested cockatoos are an Australian thing! They tend to be a bit of a pest. We like the black cockatoos.

HIIT - https://www.thebodycoach.com/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-hiit/
"HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training. It's a way of training that combines quick, intense bursts of exercise, where you're working out as hard as you can, with short periods of recovery. Getting your heart rate up to a level you can't sustain for long allows you to burn more fat in less time"
"What does a typical HIIT session look like?
HIIT sessions usually last between 20-45 minutes, including your warm up and cool down. That may seem short but it's because they're tough! During the main set, which can last as little as 10 minutes, you alternate between high-intensity exercises - think anything that gets your heart rate up, such as burpees or running on the spot - and periods of recovery.
In order to get results, the high-intensity intervals need to be performed at a full-on effort level. You should be working at a level of 9 out of 10 and struggling to catch your breath.
In a typical HIIT session you'll be working hard for 20 to 90 seconds at a time followed by a similarly short period of recovery to get your body prepped to go again.
These intervals can be scaled to your current fitness level. For example, you may want to start off with 20 seconds on, 20 seconds off and build up the duration you're working hard as you progress."
https://www.thebodycoach.com/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-hiit/
In a running context, it would be sprints.
In a cycling context, it would be intervals or hill repeats.
If I were to run up a couple flights of stairs, then walk down one flight, and run up a couple more flights, that might qualify as HIIT.
If you wear a heart rate monitor, you can see whether your heart is working hard enough for the exercise to qualify as HIIT.
Barefoot vs Socks - Barefoot as much as possible! Although I have started wearing tiny "invisible" socks at work so my shoes don't give me blisters.
