@walkintofit You are doing great! Way to go!5

What seems to be working for me this time is eating a normal breakfast and lunch and even nibbling on snacks most of the day, but a VERY light dinner. Like a bowl of soup and maybe a couple bites of something else. I know the old adage, "Breakfast of a King, lunch of a Prince, dinner of a Pauper." It must be true. I realize this isn't a viable option for some people due to their schedules, but it is working for me. My husband doesn't mind not sitting down to a big dinner; he is retired and can eat whenever. He has also lost weight since he is doing dry January with me. We are also not going out which saves a HUGE amount of money and calories.7

@SunnyDays930 thank you for sharing! I want to try larger breakfasts and lunch in my next 4 day plan. I’ll boil some eggs today— maybe add one to breakfast or lunch. Last night I succumbed to late night snacking. Popcorn, choc chip cookies and orange juice on the couch 🤦♀️ I poured the juice out this morning because it’s just too much sugar for me the way I drink it (it is leftover from holiday guests- so thankfully gone now). I’m grateful for this group to be able to “air it out”. I really want to figure out this behavior. It’s hard, but I can do it!5

@3636anna3636 You will figure out what works for you. My husband is eating high protein, no carbs, and has lost 7 lbs. Now he is much heavier than me so it is coming off him faster, but it IS working.7

This was a surprise. I had been so good about my food that I thought for sure I'd have at least a half pound loss. I got over my disappointment. I talked to myself and felt better. (I'm scale dependent).
I actually looked up my maintenance calories. They're only about 100 calories more than I'm on now. So really it's not going to be much of a change. I'll probably have a cheat day here and there and that's it.
My clothes do feel looser and that's the most important thing. I no longer dread going into my closet and finding NOTHING TO WEAR.
So onward we go. My Ultimate Goal is just that. Something to aim for. I'd like to see what I feel like at 134 and of course I could put the weight back on.....with some more muscle of course. That should be my ultimate goal. Strength. Or fitness as some people call it. I'm almost 73 years old and strength would be a real asset going into my 80's.

@GinLee61 Your weight loss journey is absolutely amazing and inspiring! Bravo!
6 -
Congrats @GinLee61! Very inspiring!!!
I’m really pleased with my 4-day plan execution 1/7- 1/10. One of the evenings I snacked a lot, but I stuck with it and even logged all four days. The last two days I ate larger breakfasts and lunches and I’m optimistic this might help with evening couch snacking.

My plan for 1/11, 1/12, 1/13 and 1/14
All days- veg all meals; no evening couch snacking; make batch breakfasts on 1/14 for continuity; best effort to keep logging
1/13 - exercise

You're doing great, Anna. I'm sure you're feeling better. Six lbs can definitely change the way your clothes fit.
More power to spinach oatmeal! I still haven't tried it but I will. I need a trip to the grocery store is all.7 -
Hi folks, I am up another pound this week. Very cross with myself, but I can do better. Very well done to all our losers!8

01/01-193.4-(Trend Weight: 192.9)-
01/07-193.4-(Trend Weight: 192.9)- Exactly the same as I was on Jan 1st. Who am I fooling? I know why. But I have finally pawned off the last of the cookies and fudge from our Family Christmas celebrations on Dec 28th so things should go a little smoother from here. Clearly I need to work on more than just my diet. I need to work on my attitude and my resolve too. I’ve been experiencing a lot of different stresses, pressures and depressions lately with things that are difficult to immediately change. I need to figure out how to get through it all. I will keep working on my meal planning, water and pre-logging and hope the will to exercise comes back around. That is my pledge to me right now and I hope I don’t let myself down. I need positives!
01/14-192.6-(Trend Weight: 192.4)- As you can tell by my trend weight, I have been running much lower on the scale this week. However, today I’ve experienced quite a jump for no known reason. Must be sodium. I’ve gained about 1 ½ lbs overnight even though I was 250 calories and 16 carbs under. The last couple of days have been so good. There has been no TMI x2 in the bathroom so maybe that is contributing. Since weight loss is not linear I will just have to stay the course, not resort to anything drastic. Keep to plan and keep the faith. I am still lower than last week so progress has still been made from that perspective. I am right at January’s starting weight so I do feel that I have not EVEN BEGUN to put a dent in the holiday weight after all I’ve done in January to offset. Okay, no crying over spilt milk. Positives: eating at home more, soup or something very light for dinner. No snacking after dinner. No alcohol.
So TWL in 2 weeks is 3.6 lbs. I was hoping for 4 but close enough.6 -
Wow. That's really good, Sunny. I'd take 3.6 pounds in a minute!! Thanks for posting.7

@lclark04957 Well put. Exactly how I feel. But then take a look at @GinLee61's efforts. Three years this month!!!!!!!!! Her mantra on her profile is: " Be Proud of How Hard you are Trying". O.K. I'll try to remind myself of that often. It's helpful "self talk".

I've waited to post because I was sure I would get to 170 or 169 lbs. soon~ no luck!
These pounds are stuck on me. I'm ok with it because it's better than climbing up, but I am so puzzled. I don't think I could eat any less. But I really should track my food which I have not done.
Positives: I am now into a good routine with 1 day of yoga and 1 day of Pilates each week. I feel much stronger. Now, I have to add one day at the gym or even another Pilates class to make it three times per week.
I have gone back to wine, not everyday but still. That could be where my weight loss is stalled.
It has been so bitter cold and snowy here in the Midwest but I love it.
Love reading your posts!

Well done to everyone for staying strong and making progress.

Thank you @RubyRed427 for continuing this challenge. Thanks to everyone for the useful advice I have read on this thread this week. There's lots of things I need to look at and consider, thanks all. Although I only look at this page once a week, it is reassuring to know that others are in the same situation as me and we are all making progress!
My aims for this month are to: get back to being active - even if the weather isn't great, reduce my bread/pasta/rice/potato intake, try to get at least 7 hours sleep a night and to return to tracking my meals - if only to see what I need to do to get into 130-ville!
My name is Nikki, and I'm 5'3" (on a good day!). I'm based on the south coast in the UK. I'm in my 50s and work full time as a teacher. I'm pretty active - but there's always room for some more.
I've lost my way slightly with the end of term and the start of the Christmas break. It is a little worrying how easily chocolate, sweet things and snack-y things seem to make their way into my mouth, just because it is the holiday!!
Now it's the New Year, I'm heading back to work, which I hope will be easier not to get distracted with not so good food choices! However, I know my colleagues will be bringing in the excesses of Christmas food that they haven't eaten. I'm going to have to stay strong when I walk in the staff room. I am going to log my weight to keep me accountable to myself and remind me that it is possible to lose weight, if I really want to, as shown by my previous progress!
My GW is 133lb
my UGW is 126 - although that is very optimistic!
I weigh in on Thursdays.
Progress so far:
08 Aug - 150
15 Aug - 148 (-2lb)
22 Aug - 145.4 (-2.6lb)
29 Aug - 147 (+1.6lb)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR AUGUST: 3lb
05 Sept -145.6 (-1.4lb)
12 Sept - 144.6 (-1.0lb)
19 Sept - 144.2 (-0.4lb)
26 Sept - 144.0 (-0.2lb)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR SEPTEMBER: 1.6lb
03 Oct - 145.2lb (+1.2lb)
10 Oct -144.2lb (-1.0lb)
17 Oct -144.5lb (+0.3lb)
24 Oct - 143.6lb (-0.9lb)
31 Oct - 144.8lb (+1.2lb)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR OCTOBER: 0.4lb
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR THIS CHALLENGE: 5.2lb
07 Nov - 143.2lb (-1.6lb) Yay!
14 Nov - 142.8 (-0.4lb) Not much of a change, but I'll take it. It's difficult to stay motivated when the weight loss is so slow. I'm also not doing so well with tracking this week, so I need to get back into the habit.
21 Nov - 143.0 (+0.2lb) Not too bad in the scheme of things, I just need to get back to tracking and being a bit more mindful of what I am eating!! Tracking really is the way to go!!
28 Nov - 142.2 (-0.8) I'm late posting- but this was my weight on Thursday! Hurrah!! Still plenty to work on, but I'm not sure how I had a loss this week! I'll accept it and see how next week looks!
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR NOVEMBER: 1.0lb Not a huge loss, but a better weight than I have been for sometime!
05 Dec - 141.6 (-0.6lb) although it isn't much of a loss, getting to 141 lb is a big milestone for me. I've not seen that number for a very long time! Don't quite know what I did to get to this weight though. I still haven't gotten around to tracking, but this will become more important in the next few weeks now that Christmas is looming!
12 Dec - 141.6 (0lb) No change, but I haven't been as mindful as I could have been with my food choices, so I am glad to have maintained. I finish work this week - so the challenge will be not to eat everything I can find in the house whilst telling myself "it is a treat"!
19 Dec - 142.5 (+0.9lb) Far too many temptations!!
26 Dec - 144.3 ( +1.8lb) This could be a whole lot worse - so I'll accept it!
TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN FOR DECEMBER: 2.7lb - I was expecting this, but I am still lower than I was at the start of August 2024.
02 Jan - 144.0 (-0.3lb) I don't think I can count this as a loss! Back to work soon, so I'll go back to tracking and looking at ways to be active. The weather outside isn't great for going for a walk!
09 Jan - 144.0lb (0.0lb) I've not gone up, but I've not gone down. I'm still not there with tracking, which isn't great!
16 Jan - 141.4lb (2.6lb) I don't know how this happened, but I'll take it! A busy week which still means that I haven't been putting myself first, which isn't great. I need to get back to focusing on making mindful food choices. I have recently given up Slimming World, which wasn't really working for me, so I am now free-wheeling. Not sure if this is a good thing, but the numbers on the scale will catch up with me eventually!

Have a good week everyone!6 -
@faurotann Thank you for the encouragement. I wrote the mantra on paper and taped it to the fridge as a reminder to myself that I am working hard and should be proud of my accomplishments, big or small!!6
-
I had some setbacks this week but I will also use that mantra "Be proud of how hard you are trying." We should all be proud of our efforts. We keep showing up and trying and that is half the battle.
I weigh in on Wednesdays and will post tomorrow. Have a healthy day, my friends!7 -

01/21-193.2-(Trend Weight: 192.9)- Oh, how I start each day with such gusto! With the innocence of a child, really. I pre-log my food, plan some exercise and feel full of such hope and obedience! Then it all seems to go south-to Hell in a hand basket as they say (whoever THEY are). Today I am here to try again to save myself from obesity, high A1C diabetic numbers and so much more (yes, knees included). I’m entering today with reckless abandon and hoping I remain as strong as I feel in this moment. Cocky me, with coffee in hand. It’s easy when you are not hungry yet! But my promise to myself and my pledge to all you hardworking people is that I will give it my very best again today. I will throw it hard against the wall and hope it sticks. -11 F degrees actual out there right now. -28 F Windchill factor. Day 2 of schools being closed. Brrrr…. Maybe I will shiver off some calories today!

Well you know the saying 2 steps forward, 2 steps back. I am stuck, but I know why. My diet went off the rails with a small mini vacation that included alcohol, after I was having a dry January. I'm recommitting to it now so I can finish the month strong. Next week I aim to be 159.2 or less to finish the month. Onward!7 -
OK. I'll do it. Finish strong!!!! Onward!
Thanks for that post, Sunny!!!!!!!7 -

I tried on some clothes this morning. I highly recommend it as a motivator. Some of the clothes were tighter than I expected. Some of them fit fine. All of them I purchased in 2017 which is kind of my benchmark year.
I really wanted to step on the scale this morning but I held back. Tomorrow is my weigh in day. Weighing one day a week has really helped me. I used to weigh every day (or several times a day) which is stupid.
You will lose that pound, Debbie. You know you can.6 -

My body is fighting to keep the weight. At first, my scale flashed 169 but then settled at 170.6. Maybe in seven days I can get to 160s. I think I'll replace one meal with soup.
@faurotann I agree! Recently, I sorted my clothes and labeled them in different bins. One of the labels said "just a bit too small right now." I love the clothes in that bin. They're summer clothes, so maybe by then, I can lose a few more pounds.10
