Lost weight and calories went up

Ik that you kind of have to “reset” your body once you lose weight but I feel nervous to up my calories. I’ve lost 108 pounds and my calories were at 1119 and went up to 1380. How long should I eat like that? I’m nervous about gaining too much

Congratulations on losing 108 pounds: That's an amazing accomplishment!

How much do you weigh now, how tall are you, how active, how old? Are you still trying to lose weight, or are you now at goal weight? Knowing those things would let us give you more personalized advice.

If your calorie goal previously was 1119, MFP didn't calculate and assign that goal to you . . . the lowest it will assign a woman is 1200. Even 1380 isn't a huge number, so I'd be surprised if you'd gain weight on that, unless you're very petite, quite inactive, and not very young. But it's hard to say without knowing more about you.

    Best wishes!

I started at 315 and now I’m 205, I used a different app called calory I think and it put me at 1119. I’m 5’4, 18, somewhat active, but yea I’m still trying to lose weight so that’s why I was wondering

At 205 and 5'4", 18 y/o, we'd expect your total daily calorie needs to be around 2000-2100 if sedentary. A lot of people are more active than sedentary, just from job, home and family things, even with a desk job, but I picked a low-ish activity level as an example.

At that 2000-2100 TDEE (total daily energy expenditure, your total weight-stable calorie needs), 1380 calories would be expected to give you a bit over a pound to almost a pound and a half a week weight loss, which would be a reasonable rate to pursue IMO, if you want to keep losing.

That's assuming your calorie needs are close to statistical averages for your age/size, but most people ARE close, by definition. If less active than sedentary, even being bedbound (but conscious), a woman in your demographic would be expected to lose about a pound a week at 1380.

I think the implication would be that in order to gain at 1380 calories, your calorie needs would have to be dramatically, extremely lower than the average woman your size. That's not very likely at all.

Give it a try. I think you'll do fine.

BTW, I used this TDEE calculator to get those numbers:

    https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/

That one has a lot of options so it looks complicated at first glance, but it's easy to use if you step through it. It lets you compare multiple research-based estimating formulas, and has more activity levels with better descriptions than most other such tools.

    Best wishes!

You're young. not THAT un-tall. You do have weight to lose. But at 1119 starting from 315lbs you must have lost fairly fast, even if you're actually the not very active you are setup as.

    Actually, let's re-consider a few things.

What you're SET-up as really doesn't matter. It is an aspirational prompt based on guesses by you and by the apps.

The real question is: what are you actually averaging in terms of Caloric intake? What are you averaging at in terms of the calories you spend? And... what is your weight trend over sufficient time doing and how close is it matching all these settings.

In the end your own numbers are what matters because in the end only your own numbers will let you make more educated guesses as to what you should be aiming for.

And. Keep in mind. The goal is NOT JUST WEIGHT LOSS. It is AWESOME, most impressively awesome, and most wonderful to be losing weight. There is no question that you will/should be feeling energized and powerful after dropping 110lbs!

But the real goal is to take this momentum and this great feeling and bundle it into conditions that will help you continue to meet your weight goals.

Presumably continuing to lose for now and then later on maintaining that loss for many years to come.

For a large weight loss such as this to fully play out , for you to lose the weight, stabilize at maintenance, embed changes of behavior that will help you stay at maintenance while coping with life changes and challenges, you are looking at a number of years not a number of months.

So yes, I would continue losing. But I would look at my rate of loss and would quite probably try to lose the rest of my weight at rates closer to 0.5% of total weight per week as opposed to 1% or higher.

Yes, this would probably mean eating more. Hey possibly moving more and becoming more active which by itself is a good thing (calling you out here 18 yo relative not active person ;-) but continuing to do all the good things you've been doing at rates of speed that are sustainable so that you can start looking at and exploring things with the long term in your mind.

I'm sure that others who know what I'm trying to say will chime in and articulate it better ;-)

Awesome work so far.... start exploring additional things and start thinking weight management in general; not just weight loss

you're not just losing weight. You are establishing a healthy life. If you lose weight in an unhealthy way, it's not going to stay off. You likely are eating far too few calories. Especially if you start exercising, which I encourage you to do if you can. Learn how to make balanced meals. Experiment with what you like. Hopefully you aren't like me and hate cooking.

Don't be afraid of small changes. :)
