Tomorrow, I "work from home" and also leap into action with my husband's situation.
The first thing to do will be to line up an ultrasound to check for blood clots.
Then, we're hoping for a call to inform us of a surgeon or surgeons who will take him. I don't expect we'll have an appointment with one tomorrow, but hopefully one day early this week.

Meanwhile, it has been a nice couple days without too many extra responsibilities. There was nothing we could do in those 2 days so might as well relax.

Carla Prayers for your family... Too many young people are getting cancer these days!!!! Prayers!

LanetteOnce I got to the store and checked out washer and dryers in person I did decide on a Speed Queen Washer...I use my washer much more than my dryer and the Speed Queen Washer is more durable. I also like that it operates more like the one I just lost. You can also always lift the lid no matter where it is in the cycle. All other washers I looked at lock and it is quite the chore to stop the washer. For the dryer I went with a Maytag because it has what is called a hamper door and that is what I have now and like it because you can open it up and you have a shelf. I like to start to fold and sort my laundry on it. The opening is smaller than the one I have now, but it will still work. I also went back to an electric dryer. Less expensive to buy and no gas fumes. Gas is still cheaper to operate, but I only use dyer for sheets, towels, and rags and even then I only go to partial dry with towels and rags. I finish the drying by hanging them up. I have the hook up for an electric from a previous dryer. Speed Queen came with a dryer that open up like a door in your home. Son's dryer is like that and I miss the hamper door when I use his.

Yesterday went to see ice sculptures at Rice Park. First Steps was my favorite...I am showing the parrot because it shows the Landmark Center where my friend and I listened to The St. Paul community orchestra. Beautiful building!31k8greqx7cf.jpg

Heather One theory that is starting to gain traction is ADHD is related to blood sugar regulation. It may help to go on a MIND diet it is diet that emphasizes plants, smaller meat portions, little to no junk food. Good quality proteins. If meat is eaten try to find meat that has not been fed poor feed.

I can attest to this diet because it is basically the one I have been on this past year. I have added low grain consumption to this diet too. I know what it has done for my mood and my quality of life. I no longer have to use will power to avoid the foods that are not good for me. I use knowledge. I know how I feel when I eat poorly and I also know what happens to the scale. This is what keeps me on track.

I think I shared this before. One of the books I read told that the actress Jane Seymore's father was a doctor. He would not let junk food in the house because he already knew the long term effects would be bad...You look at her today she is in her seventies and looks like she is in her 40's. I do understand she is not without some health issues but I would think if she stayed on the course her father set it makes it easier to manage her health issues.

I also mentioned I was reading a news summary website and they showed a picture of a man who lived on processed food for fifty years. It was not a pretty picture.

I loved his hijet, and really sad about seeing it messed up by that mechanic/friend. His first truck was bought here in CA, and it had come over from Japan. Then when he moved up to WA he and this friend must've been high on candy and fast food to come up with a weird idea to do an engine swap on it. They took a MG engine and put it under the cab of the truck, (where its normally at). But it was too big (duh) so they had to remove the bench seat. Then they had to extent the wheel base because it was top heavy. Then they had to create fenders because the wheels were rubbing. Finally they put the air filter in the back bed against the back wall of the cab. She's like a monster from too many plastic surgeries. Now she's out in the parking lit of the friends business. Out in the elements, while he's moved to Oklahoma and forgotten about even thinking of fixing her. He had said he would put her on a flatbed trailer to transport it to us after the holidays, but that never happened. This friend has had it since 2017.

I love my new pots and pans, just a breeze to cook with! I bought some new small pans and both of us have to be really careful because things just slip all over in them!

That truck sounds like an adventure for sure! Hilarious. My daughter would love the sushi/Ramen bedding. I will have to keep it in mind for her. Be really careful with those new pans. We don’t need any hot cheese burns. 🤣

I will be reading up on the thyroid issue. Things like this always fascinate me. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you! We had a great time! I don’t feel my age at all. So sometimes it’s hard for me to remember that my friends having babies are in their 30’s. I was 30 when I had my daughter. She will be 21 this year. The food was a lot of fun, but I was an entertained by the games we played. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

:)Lisa, when my grandmother was in a nursing home at age 85+ she referred to the others as old ladies seemingly without understanding that she, too, fit that description. About the laundry, Jake thought that putting the clothes in the washer and setting the timer to start first thing in the morning was "doing the laundry" and when he put the basket of laundry on the table to be folded, he announced that the laundry was done having no idea how much work the folding and putting away entailed for me.

:)Vicki, It's hard for me to imagine that there are people who would be happy doing the work you do and driving a bus. One or the other. There's a job out there for you. It's just the waiting that's so difficult.

<3Machka, Your husband's surgery sounds like a huge challenge for both of you. I know you'll deal with it one day at a time and find ways to take care of yourself as you take care of him.

:)Margaret, What a great description of joy. Learning to enjoy what's around you is a great companion to gratitude and happiness.

:)Kylia, You are right about habits. Even at my lowest moments, I default to my habits and do what I would normally do so something gets accomplished and I can feel better.

:)Heather, Your Burns party looks like so much fun.

:) I think I have all the documents I need to begin preparation of income tax, but with all that's going on, I can't imagine fragmenting myself by tackling it yet. I'll just be sure to keep it all together for the day I can deal with it.

:) Had a long phone conversation with daughter in California. She is dealing with a sick dog who may need weeks of special care to recover completely. She has been a good support for me and me for her.

    <3 Barbie in NW WA

:)Allie, It's a great feeling to be able to get rid of clothes that are too big.

We have a nice tax lady that has her office in Warrenton Oregon. We met her when husband was in the thick of it healthwise. She knows the latest changes, and makes the process of filing completely painless. We just make copies, and send documents to her. She calls us when she receives them. We get a call when finished, and usually the fee she charges is about what we get back. We receive a nice professional folder and we send her a check and file the folder. Easy peasy. Something to think about having a tax lady.💖

In Australia, that is the best way to go. I think most people go that route.

We use H&R Block. They can access everything except donations. So the only thing I bring in are donation receipts.

Both our taxes are finished within half an hour and the money is in the bank 2 weeks later.

Sadly alot of agencies here don't "play well with each other" computer speaking, so the tax lady can't get our social security forns, or my husbands retirement pay stub. But on the good side they do send them out fairly quickly.
Your back yard is looking marvelous by the way. I bet the bees are having fun pollinating everything!

Debbie – do you have handwarmers? I love mine:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCN32JWM?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Great for when I’m walking, I just keep them in my pocket.
I always get my drinks water no ice too. Vince always knows what I’ll order. I also always keep some tea bags in my pocketbook. It seems that every place has tea, but it’s almost always iced tea. Who wants iced tea in January? What is your favorite tea?

Carol and Deb - Add me to the list of people who do well during the day and then at nighttime snack. Oh, I snack on decent foods, freeze dried fruit (dried fruit usually has sugar added to it. I like the freeze dried fruit), fruit, cheese. But I still can’t help snacking. Trying to keep some tea nearby, hoping that’ll help. Next I think I’ll try having pickle juice. Just to get me started.

Heather – you ARE great grandparents. How I envy you, being so close to them

Well, bowling and then ceramics tomorrow night.

    Michele NC

I do have a few sets of those hand warmers- need to pull them out again. Now I use the one time use ones that I got at Black Friday- 30 or 40 in a box for $4. I gave some to my friends for when we walk-(just put two more sets in my jacket pocket for tonight)

Favorite teas- herbal would be Good Earth Sweet and Spicy. I am hoping Grocery Outlet will get it back in. Amazon has it but so much cheaper at GO-they had a four box pack for $8. Need to remind my son to ask his boss if they can get it back in again.
Another one I like is the Celestial Seasoning Bengal Spice. They have one called India Spice that is with black tea that is also really good.
Morning tea is Earl Grey, English Breakfast or something like that.
Favorite for cool tea is Luzianne.

I am not a fan of most of the fruit/herbal teas
We went to Celestial Seasonings in Bolder,CO- that was the highlight of our trip to Colorado Springs both times we went. They have an amazing tour and tasting room- all free plus the gift shop was huge. I ended up getting two large boxes of tea shipped from them. The tea got here before we did. I think I bought like 20 boxes or more. One thing we learned on the tour was, tea never goes bad/expires. It may be a bit weaker/take a little longer to steep, but it is still perfectly good.

I even have a favorite cup that I use constantly- it is one my former hubby sent me for my birthday about 8 yrs ago. It has a picture of us taken in SF when he came out to visit(first time seeing him in over 20 yrs). Nice to have a great memory to think of every time I have my tea.

Have not drank pickle juice on its own but LOVE baby dills- can eat half a jar of them in one sitting. Also LOVE pickled okra-mom makes the best

sunny but chilly out right now so think I will go start pruning my roses- have a lot to prune plus need to get all the raspberries pruned too.
Rain coming this weekend so should get started now.
Need to also spray my nectarine tree but may wait until after the rain- just need to make sure I spray it heavily this year- didn't do a good job last year and got no fruit- lots of leaf curl.

Simple secret to a longer life

    https://news.griffith.edu.au/2024/11/27/simple-secret-to-a-longer-life/

If everyone was as active as the top 25 per cent of the population, individuals over the age of 40 could add five years to their life, according to a new study led by Griffith University researchers.

Physical activity has long been known to be good for health, however estimates have varied regarding how much benefit could be gained from a defined amount of activity, both for individuals and for populations.

This latest study used US-based accelerometry data to gain an accurate view of a population’s physical activity levels instead of relying on survey responses as per other studies, and found the benefits were around twice as strong as previous estimates.

It found the most active quarter of people in the community had a 73 per cent lower risk of death than their least active counterparts.

For that least active quartile, a single one-hour walk could potentially return a benefit of around six additional hours of life.

There was just a post on Facebook how the soup kitchen has really exploded. Serving more meals, more lunches, etc. so they’ve purchased a different place and will be moving there. Have no idea when. Isn’t it sad that this is needed?

We will probably go to ceramics tonight and Vince will take a pillow with him.

Took the bandage off my cyst and since it isn’t oozing, didn’t put another one back on. It’s still sticking out a little, hopefully, that’ll go down

Went to bowling and I started to cry. It’s just so frustrating when you get gutter ball after gutter ball. I asked the guy who runs the shop if there was anyone who gave bowling lessons, I need them. People give me advice, do this, do that, stand here etc etc etc. I know they mean well, but they aren’t a Kyle Troop. What works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another. Well, this guy watched me and then gave me a few pointers. Then I got my high game – 88. But at least I hit some of the pins. So I’ll try using his pointers when we got prebowl this Friday and see if they continue to help.

Lisa – I put my heavy winter coat in the closet and got out another coat. It just felt so so good to put the heavy one away. Please don’t tell me that remodeling is expensive. I have to get the bathroom(s) redone in the condo. I’m figuring at least $10,000 more on the lines of 12 or 13. Ideally, I would like to get both of them done, but one is a much higher priority.

Michaela and Levi – fashion trend setters

Margaret – I have a Whirlpool dryer and I can open the door at any time. I also have a shelf that I can put in if I need it. We have an ironing board that folds down and Vince likes to fold his laundry on that. It’s in a “cabinet” on the wall and then when you open the door you can fold down the ironing board. Great ice sculptures.

Rita – I’m so sorry about your X-MIL

Got a loop band in the mail today. Didn’t cost a cent. See, there is this program, FitOn, for people who have BCBS of NC as their supplement which I do. Seems there’s few exercise things I can get (no, Barb, no DVD’s) at no cost, which works for me. Even if I give it to someone else, that’s OK. I can only order one loop band in any one year, which is OK.

Heidi – I usually log as I go along. Oh, there have been times when I’ve been over calories so I eliminate something just to get under calories. But I am finding that since I don’t add in my exercise calories, I’ll have a snack and justify it as the calories from exercise. Also, I find that eating at night isn’t good for me as I tend to gain weight.. So I’ve got to curb that. I try to do that by doing the jigsaw puzzle, going for a walk when it gets lighter longer. I also try to log an apple and have that or crackers shortly before bedtime. Great shower. Did you do all the cooking?

Went to ceramics and there weren’t any cars there. Were they closed? No, they were open only they didn’t have any heat. There is no way we were going to paint in our coats so we left. But I did pick up my Kermit the Frog

    a0k1aenyqfp3.jpg

Taxes: Vince uses TurboTax. So does Jess.

Debbie – I really don’t care for Celestial Seasonings mainly because there isn’t a string to get the teabag out of the tea. I can’t drink black tea – makes my stomach upset. Honestly, I like the tea that’s on sale. I got some Egyptian Licorice by Yogi that I like. Also, green tea pomegranate by Bigelow and Peach and Orange by Twinings. Like I said, what’s on sale

Hey All! Happy Monday! Checking back in. Busy weekend in here. Ha! Busy weekend in general.

Pip - Would be nice to spend an alternating week somewhere. I will get there eventually. Those are some seriously pampered pooches. Also, what is that number at the end of your posts? I feel like a dork asking? But I obviously missed something.

Rebecca - I love new pots and pans!!! I will need to be trying this HU bar with almond butter. Yum! I am allergic to soy lecithin, so am always looking for something yummy without that as an ingredient. I am still shamelessly cracking up about the tiny trucklet. :D Also dying to see the sushi cases and ramen sheets. What is parathyroidism? I have hypothyroidism, but I have never heard of Para. And for the record, I do feel you should've received recognition. hahahahaha!

DrKatie - Good Lord! What a debacle. How on earth were they able to pay from your account?

Kylia - You should be able to find a local keeper. I would be willing to bet your state even has a registry. Farmers markets are also good places to find them.

Michelle - Yes! We saw the Canes! I'm a huge fan. And no.....you didn't want to see the naked dude. Ha! In regards to going over on calories, are you logging as you go or waiting until end of day. Logging as I go helps me a great deal.

Machka - You have your hands full for sure! I hope your husband is doing better. Congrats on keeping moving. I know that can be challenging when you are busy. I love the rain. Does it rain a lot there? Your back garden is stunning. What an incredible haven. I find beekeeping to be terrifying and satisfying. I work with Carniolans. I am proud to say I have still in my 50 years, never been stung. I have only been working with bees for 10 years now. But I am sure my day will come. Ha!

Heather - What is Burns Night? These hats y'all had on were great! I need to know more about this celebration! What is your whisky of choice? Bea is adorable. She did a great job on her crate. And Johns drawing is wild!

Terri - Wow! That sounds like a helluva storm! I hope there was still no damage in the marina after you checked. That could be costly damage.

Lisa - How are you managing your Afib? Corey :D:D:D Good answer! He deserves the coffee. How is your daughter? Levi is adorable!!!!! Great Shades!

Beth - I must have missed it and will have to read back. But surgery doesn't sound fun. I'm not even a little jealous of the snow you are getting. You just keep that over there. ha!

RVRita - I loathe OneDrive!!! I refuse to use it. I do however have an external hard drive to offload onto, use google drive to share docs with others and Dropbox for various other items. Good luck with the house search. keep us posted. A CHIPMUNK!!! BAHAHAHAHAHA! This made my day.

Vicki - Nebraska..... I drove through there once. I swear I passed the exact same mile marker for 4 hours straight. I'm pretty sure if your dog escaped, you could watch him run away for three days. Its the flattest place I've ever seen! Zero wind breaks. How are you staying warm? I know here at some of our schools they are using kitchen staff to also drive buses. Other employees are cross training for bus driving as well. Its crazy to me that this seems to be a tough area to staff. I don't blame you though, I wouldn't feel comfortable driving one either.

Rori - I have heard of this Reynauds but don't know anyone with it. I would certainly get that checked out if you think it might be what you are dealing with. I haven't been to Colorado for years. Do you have a lot of snow? I remember jumping off of the roof of the house into the snow. Ha! I don't miss the cold.

Debbie - This is a lot of stress on you. Take time for yourself. Burn out is horrible. I love tea and have a ridiculous collection. What are you drinking?

Margaret - Where is this Winter Carnival? Reminds me of McCall Idaho.

Carla - I am so sorry to hear about your cousin. I will send prayers for certain to all of you.

It's cold that never ends here in North Carolina. They say there is a warming trend, but I say.....LIES! I'm still freezing. Seems I may never thaw. I threw a baby shower for a friend on Saturday. It was a success, but I'm glad its over. There was far too much to eat that I had no business eating. Ha! Because its a long post already, I included photos in the spoiler below for anyone who wants to see. I'm the one in the pink. Question of the day....what color are my shoes? :D Somehow they are an optical illusion in the photos.

Busy week ahead. Ill be working and troubleshooting some camera issues for church service. I hope I get it solved by Sunday. ha! Pray for me.
