Just had a long video chat with Rita, my that was fun! Of course, because we've known each other for years and are old friends, conversation was easy, because of this site!
Technology is a gift sometimes, isn't it?💖👍🏼🙏
Today as I was sipping my first cuppa, husband came home with a boston cream donut. Now, like I told Rita, my coffee tastes better!👍🏼 Lunch is a date out to an Asian Buffet place. Hopefully they will have nice options. Going at 3 pm so by the time bedtime hits I won't still be processing meal. Plus its kind of blustery windy today and we aren't keen to drive at night time.
Enjoy the day all!💖🙏

I had trouble downloading one of tax forms today. I had too much stored in my downloads and my computer was not happy about it. When I tried another lap top it loaded just fine. I did try to delete files but I still have more to do to help this computer to work better. Some I thought were deleted but I guess for some reason they still stay in a certain section of downloads I have to move them to trash. Never a dull moment with technology!
After son I would get the How are you from people I did not know very well. I was honest not okay. It seemed to take them aback. I would then say It is okay to not be okay. I still get how are you from people I don't know very well and they say it in such a way of pity like they expect me to be in deep grief. I will always be in some grief, but that is okay. I just do not define myself by it. I define myself by my character...do I listen well to others, do I try to be kind and compassionate, do I try to help others, do I enjoy the beauty like has to offer... Sometimes as an answer to them I start to list all the things I am doing that I am enjoying or isn't just such a beautiful day.

Hi all! I am new here, but hope that I can join in - My name is Lynn and I am 53 and live in central North Carolina. We are having a beautiful snowy day today. My hubby and I have started on a new year of getting ourselves back in shape and healthy. We are on week 7, but I am struggling. I am losing motivation and just decided to start tracking.
About 2 years ago, I lost my corporate job due to a takeover by a new CEO who thought I made too much money, so am now a receptionist where my hubby has worked for 34 years. I LOVE it, but sometimes it's hard being with hubby basically 24/7 now.
I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. I have GOT to get my A1C down to a reasonable level. I am struggling right now with low potassium and sodium. Dr has been playing with my meds which messes with my brain because it caused me to shoot up 12lbs in one week due to water retention.
What can I say - I'm kinda a mess, but I hope I can join in here.12 -

The food bank/food program that mom helps at every Saturday(I help when I am up there).
They get a huge variety, including a LOT of desserts. Most are donated from Safeway and Raleys. That is my mom's spot. She hands them out. Some weeks each family gets to pick one, other weeks when they get extra, they can have two. Full sheet cakes, specialty cakes, doughnuts, etc.
We give out fresh and frozen meat- all from the stores, most exotic so far was this past time I helped and we got a whole duck(still haven't cooked it). Lots of canned and shelf stable food, drinks(canned/bottled/ground coffee). A good variety of fresh produce, fresh milk/eggs/cheese/butter and fresh bread. Never know exactly what will be there. Some high end items come in from Guy Fieri from his Grocery Games set/store. I love when they get bread from the local bakery. DH LOVES their sourdough bread. It sells for $9 a loaf so I get extra if they have it.
They also give out diapers to those who need them
They get at least one, sometimes two banana boxes full of food.
There are at least 150 families, up to 225 coming through.

Update on MIL.
She is back in Kaiser.
Not sure if she has a UTI or not. One nurse told dh she did, another one, and her blood test online says it is clear.
She is dehydrated and blood test shows she has an infection somewhere but they don't know where. Found out they haven't checked her for bedsores which doesn't make any sense.
She is septic and it is affecting her heart. They can't get her heart regulated(I guess she does have one, but I have had my doubts)
She has a 75% chance of having a stroke right now
He is mad at them because they called the care home to give them an update before they called him. They had told him he would be the first one called.
She will be in the hospital at least 3 days until they figured out what was going on

Lynn in NC - Welcome! Glad your new job is turning out OK, and hope your doc can get the meds figured out.
You've come to the right place. Several of us here are also working on getting our A1C back down and a couple of us are on a diabetes prevention program. Rita here has a good online program she follows and I'm taking one through Medicare at a local hospital via Zoom. Both are based on CDC guidelines from what I can tell.
Debbie - WOW, kind of a surprise about your MIL's downturn. I wonder what's going on with her with that infection? Glad she's at Kaiser.

Debbie-sorry to hear about MIL. Sepsis is nasty stuff. My mom started a foot infection in the bottom crease under her little toe. They couldn't get it controlled, ended with amputations. I check myself for cuts/open sores regularly.
I think the grief from loss continues to hit us, just maybe not as often. After DH died I was still smoking. would sometimes sit in the garage smoking and crying to beat the band. Someone could call me and ask how I was doing and I would say fine (I didn't want lectures on what to do if I told them the truth). The other day in minutes for a meeting I noted they referred to me as Mrs. When asked if there were any changes to made-I told them to change me to Ms.-I stopped being Mrs.when the Mr. died. Had no idea that would bother me so much nearly 10 years later. So whenever know.
Forgot to wear Apple Watch today for the first time in years so not meeting the goals. A bit strange but I shall live!
Off to meet with ladies group. Should be home when light snow starts tonight. Have to drive to out of town meeting tomorrow that is about 25miles south-hopefully roads not bad.
Take care all,

Nobody knows what to say to someone who is grieving. Thus many people say things that aren't helpful.
My walking friend is back from her six week cruise and visit to Sydney, Australia. She texted me this morning to ask if I'd like to walk. We walked with Annie for 45 minutes and talked about a lot of stuff. When we got home she asked if I wanted to walk tomorrow.
My friend is an overachiever like me and was frustrated at her slow recovery from her knee replacement surgery. Her doctor reminded her that she was only a few weeks into a 52 week process. You have all reminded me that I am less than 2 months into a multi year process and don't expect myself to be more recovered than I can be 💕🌞

Did an extreme cardio DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do an incline interval workout
Tracey – I don’t know how you do it in that temperature! What’s the new puppy’s name, I think I missed it.
Allie – I’m sorry about your friend
Rebecca and Rita – how wonderful you two were able to chat!
Lynn – welcome to a great place where you’ll get lots of support in everything! My home is in NC also, near Hickory. I don’t mind the snow since now I’m in FL
Deb – your soup kitchen sounds like ours. Our soup kitchen gets a lot of desserts, too. Mainly from Sams but some from WalMart. I swear, sometimes I think these people eat better than I do. I get WalMart brand bread, they get Wonder. A few times/year they get prime rib. I can’t remember the last time I bought prime rib
Debbie – I do hope they keep MIL until she’s well
Cindy – I’d have to be careful not to kill the pineapple. I kill everything I look at. Except weeds
Went to lunch with some of the ladies here. They usually go out to lunch on Wed. Had a veggie omelet. Was pretty good. I would go back there. In place of the fries/hashbrowns I had cottage cheese. Then the guy came to give me a quote on the bathroom. If things go well, we’ll probably go with him. One of the things I like is the communication, the fact that he’s on time. He’ll replace a toilet for us next week but then probably do the rest of the work in a few weeks. I also like the fact that his quote is labor only – I go to the store and pick out things. The other guy gave me a quote, but of course, he had to quote based on the highest price of the vanity, etc. and what if I don’t want the most expensive one?
Just found out that there’s a Board meeting here at the condo tomorrow. We’ll probably go. Cards at night.
Just got back from walking the halls here (outside) since it's drizzling out

Barbie ... it will be 4 years this month that my son died. Some days the grief is safely contained; other days I'm overcome with raw pain. You are right that no one really knows what to say to those who are grieving.
Megan Devine, author of "It's OK that You're Not OK," writes "that the way we deal with grief in our culture is broken. Our culture sees grief as a kind of malady: a terrifying, messy emotion that needs to be cleaned up and put behind us as soon as possible. As a result, we have outdated beliefs around how long grief should last and what it should look like. We see it as something to overcome, something to fix, rather than something to tend or support. Even our clinicians are trained to see grief as a disorder rather than a natural response to deep loss. When the professionals don’t know how to handle grief, the rest of us can hardly be expected to respond with skill and grace.” — It's OK That You're Not OK: Meeting Grief and Loss in a Culture That Doesn't Understand by Megan Devine

My produce box ... there were two errors in the contents. I had been given a choice of celery or 1 cuke and 2 roma tomatoes. I chose celery but got 2 roma tomatoes (and no cuke). I also had the choice of 2 qts of apples or 2 grapefruit. I chose grapefruit but got the apples. No big deal on either. I'll contact the farmer tomorrow and see what happened. Here's what I got: 1/4 lb basil, cherry tomatoes, large red pepper, garlic, broccoli, romaine, romas, 3 kiwi, apples, 2 lbs grapes, 1 mango and 6 bananas While the grapes don't look too great .. they are firm and very sweet. I'm happy with everything and priced out the items with a local grocer ... not bad at all!

Welcome Lynn! I am a reasonably healthy obese woman in Washington state on Whidbey island. 🙋. When I get serious and say I want to lose some weight, (Usually its because I have been lax with my portion control), I just concentrate on doing a couple right things. Like I always take my vitamins, but when I attend the gym that's my one right thing, or a log a great meal that's another. Or I make some good nutrients food shopping choices that's another. So I string them together, and then I am having that good solid day. No regrets. Make time to choose your food choices well. Intentional eating. Don't get in a rush and just eat crap.🙃😁

Wow quite a production. On the coast they are busy but small. The church we went to in Astoria would have 20 people in line. The one in Gearhart the same. Everyone signed in. Now one place everyone got a ticket with a number. You just waited in your car then, then they'd call numbers maybe 10 at a time into a room where they'd give you a box and point to stuff and asked if you wanted this or that. Its hard but I did learn to say no thank you. Sometimes it was just a box of foods worth and I know some of the workers were thinking, "why is she even here if she's not going to take everything we offer her". I tried to just smile thru it all.

Rebecca … the farmer charged $34.00. I priced the items using Walmart Groceries and Wegmans (large chain out my way). Choosing the low to mid range pricing, the items came to $32.80. Delivery was an additional 2.50. Aldis would probably be cheaper but I don’t always get great groceries from them. And part of the fun is now using up what’s in the box!😄 It’s a game I play when I’m dealing with decision fatigue in the kitchen.

Mo - the puppy is not mine, it’s one of my daughter’s friends new puppy.
I just enjoy all of these pups around me and don’t have to worry about care and cost of them.
Heather - I’m with you on group vacation type things. I think it makes for too many opportunities for someone to feel like their voice isn’t heard and needs weren’t met.
I would be willing to go to a campground or something where a bunch of people could go do their own thing, and choose to meet up or not.
Allie - I hope that Kyle gets help or Tracy leaves before she ends up battered or the kids do.
A1C is tested here with routine bloodwork.
Our provincial government did a 10 year study of Vitamin D and found that we all need it. There is not enough sunlight in the year even if we were to be outside all day to get us up to the levels needed. I take, when I remember, 3000 a day. They won’t test for it now.
Barbie - Hugs to you.
Margaret- yay for no frozen pipes!
When my Dad passed and my brother had to start taking care of my moms house one of the first things he did was put a vent in the floor by the wood stove to get heat down into the dirt basement. He didn’t want to fight with frozen pipes like my Dad did every year. He couldn’t understand why Dad never did it.
Rita - I’ve done a couple of the diamond Art kits. I found I needed a bright light!
Lynn - it’s be worked with my husband in the past and we made a rule that no work talk at home and no home talk at work. It was the only thing that got us through.
Welcome!
Debbie - it is strange the hospital called the home first. Hopefully they figure things out.
Pip - I’ll trade you snow.
Michele - The new pup is Matilda. She is not mine, just another Grandpup.
I have a very nice coat Rodger bought me for Christmas a couple of years ago. I reserve it for these very cold days. It is rated to -40C.
Truthfully, I could probably walk in it if I had pants and boots that matched its warmth.
Will you still be there when the work is being done?
I went to bed early last night and then had strange dreams and didn’t have a restful sleep at all.
I received an invitation to a graduation ceremony for my course I finished in June.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to go or not, but my family will go and cheer me on so I’m going to do it.
I didn’t graduate high school so at 56 years of age I will walk across a stage with a cap and gown. I think I would regret not going.
It is -22 with a Feels Like -31 right now. It’s supposed to warm up over night to -16 when I leave for work in the morning.

We don't start giving numbers out until 6AM and start serving at 7:30 but, when we get there at 4:45 or 5:00AM, there are already people in line
We have some people who are very picky about what they want and don't want. That is fine. Better to say no thank you than take it and then we find the stuff they don't want in the parking lot
Most are grateful. Some complain if we won't let them get more than the limit. Others pretend to not hear or understand or will try and sneak extra. They try to sweet talk their way into getting more. There are regulars that try that every week. We have to limit things, especially in the beginning to make sure we have enough for everyone.
The doors are supposed to close at 9:30 but they don't close until the last person is through. Sometimes we still have people coming through at 10:30. Many of those will not get as much as the ones that were there earlier but we make sure they at least get something. Even if they come after the doors are closed and we are in the middle of clean up.6 -
Dh is still not sure what is going on. The nurse that he talked to when he was visiting said that she would have the doctor call him. They needed to start her on blood thinners because the risk of a blood clot was higher than the risk of her bleeding out from her ulcer or something. They had originally said no blood thinners. Well, the doctor never called.
It is too late to go over there so he will just go first thing in the morning.
