Lisa, you may think that I am weird, but I look at my pee to see if there are any signs of fat in it. I see oil if you look. Maybe it is the science behind it that fascinates me.
Just a thought. Goodnight all.

Welcome to our tribe, Lynn of NC. We are a great group and learn a lot from each other. I hope your hyponatremia and hypokalemia get fixed. It isn't easy. Low potassium can affect your heart and cause arrhythmias. The same goes for sodium, which can cause you to lose energy. Are you eating? Have you had any viruses that caused diarrhea and vomiting? Are you on diuretics like Lasix? Electrolyte imbalance takes time to straighten out. Bananas have potassium.
Pip, are you still in the first place?
Michelle, does Vince do extreme cardio with you? Have you done any dancing videos like Zumba?
How are you doing, Kylia?
Vickie, how are you doing? I hope all is well with you.
Debbie, did they do a urine culture on MIL? I hope they did that along with blood cultures. Tell them to swab her nose and get a respiratory culture. I wonder what her CBC is showing. Her white blood count may be elevated, so they suspect an infection. What is her glucose level? Like I said to Lanette earlier, if her blood sugar is high, it makes the blood thicker.
Rita DS loves the jokes, so keep them coming.
It is weird, but I did without guilt when you all permitted me to rest. Thank you for that.
The time is currently 0139; I am going to lie down now. Take care, everyone, and please be safe.
Sincerely,
Mo in MS

Thank you! Yes, I am eating. This all stems apparently from my blood pressure meds (currently on 3). I have been on the same ones for over 14 years. No, not on lasix - this is from Triamterene. I can't eat bananas due to being diabetic - they spike my blood sugar too badly and I am on 3 meds for that also. I am currently doing low carb. I have been eating spinach and broccoli for the potassium. They took me off the Triamterene, and I immediately gained 12lbs in less than a week due to fluid retention. This was also the week, ironically, I was having a colonoscopy and on a liquid diet only for 2 days before the procedureI called the dr and was like I must be the only person in history to have this happen
So, back on the Triamterene and have to have bloodwork done again March 10th. If no better, will have to go on potassium supplements.
On another note - hubby and I are in week 7 of our new year eating/workout plan. I have lost 14lbs since January 7. Having him do this with me makes it a tad easier. I meal prep all our lunches on Sunday, though this week we have been so bad! Went and had Mexican on Monday, Tuesday was Chilis and yesterday was pizza (though I only ate the toppings!). We've had a lot of errands to run during lunch which have caused this, but at least I won't have to make lunches for next week, lol

This is my Libby - she is 14 years young. She is my empty nest babyI have a 34yo son and a 32yo daughter, both are out of the house and it's just me and hubby.
This may seem silly, but I ask for prayers for her. We know that she is nearing the end when we will need to make the decision to help her to the rainbow bridge. Every day, we have to clean up accidents when we get home. Her little brain is not right - she wanders, or stands aimlessly in the middle of the room. She hurts just from moving sometimes.
She will be our last dog - We've been married 35 years this year and have never had something to take care of.
I am a stress eater. This makes it REALLY hard to focus on staying on track.
Thanks much,
Lynn in NC

Debbie ... Does your husband have both health and financial POA for his mom? Those documents should have gone over with her file when she went to the hospital. Even with documentation and forms and paperwork up the yazoo... getting and giving information in this kind of situation is unnecessarily difficult. I hope they find answers quickly to get her back to her "normal."
Tracey... YES! You absolutely must walk across the stage and get your diploma!
Pip ... it's hard for me to believe that you're having Spring when we got another 3 inches of snow last night and are expecting more today ...
Today I need to go to the dentist and start the work for the replacement crown. I don't want to go and had myself convinced I could live with the broken one. But that really wouldn't be wise in the long run.
My husband, who has been told to not do heavy work with his back because he's bordering on paralysis with his spinal column, decided to start tearing out our alcove shower in our bedroom bath. It's a mess. Original builders were lazy and shoved all their construction debris in the wall spaces, so he needs to take that out as well. Biggest problem though is that they used cement board in the stall ... only thing they actually did right in this house ... but it weighs a ton and now we have to figure out how to get rid of it. Ackk.

Morning, kiddos, from the snowy wasteland that is the Arkansas River Valley,
Well, the ambient temperature never got above freezing, but the sun came out yesterday, so the roads are clear. Might get out of the house and might not. It's only 2 F out there (-16C) so not sure I want to be a popsicle just to pick up something for dinner. I'll decide after I talk to Corey and find out what he wants, and whether we have it all.
My Vitamin D was tested in December, mid-range of normal for the VA. A1C - last time mine was tested was 2017, and it was standing at 5.3, normal range. Will be tested next week for thyroid, see if bumping it from 75 to 88 mcg was enough to get it back to normal. Still cold all the time, but hard to tell if that's due to old house or old body! 👀😂🐈⬛ When I get too cold, I either get on the elliptical or do the exercises. Helps some.
Lynn in NC - Glad you're here. So sorry your Libby is failing. 🥺 It's awful hard to lose them, and 14 is OLD for a boxer. You've had her a long, long time. You'll do the right thing at the right time for her, because you love her so much. Good thoughts headed that way for you and for her. We know, when we bring an animal into our lives, that we're risking our hearts if the world works the way it's supposed to. Still doesn't make it easy, in the end.
Time to get a couple things done. Have been procrastinating getting floors done (Ha! Always! Most hated chore! 🙀) I know it's Thursday, because that's what the pill caddy says 😉, so I've got today and tomorrow - Corey's mildly allergic to dust, so I try not to vacuum when he's around.
Later, my babies,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Lynn - So sorry about Libby. Making those decisions is so hard, but so necessary. Prayers for all of you that you know when the time is right and help Libby pass with her dignity. All we can do is hold them and love them while they cross so they are secure and loved to their last second.

Beth The book It is Okay You Are Not Okay helped me and still helps me. It also helps me know what to say to others who are experiencing grief. One thing I often say is nothing or I say there is no wrong way to experience grief. One thing that helped me in reading that book was when someone just loses someone it is not my time to go into my story of loss. It is time to listen to their story. I did have some people who went into their stories at great length and I realize now it put me in a position of trying to comfort them when I needed the comfort. When DH died I still included those that did that when my son died but at more of a distance. It helped me take better care of me during dealing with DH death.
Barbie...I still have a sweater belonging to my son I hug when thinking about him. I also wear some of his clothes that work for me same with DH. I am still in the process of donating both DH and son's clothes. They both like me had a large collection of clothes. Other son wears some of his brothers clothes too! I cull clothes in spurts.

Zoom with girlfriends in half an hour. After all the nonsense about group holidays, I don't know if they will want to talk about that. I will just stay out of it.
We had a mix up with Velux this morning, who mistook the day they were meant to be coming to replace our exploded window. (It's tomorrow). They did ring back to apologise. Good job, because John was beginning to think it was his fault!
Just for a change, I put on my old running playlist, to help me ease into my editing this morning. Nostalgia trip! Plus the tracks I chose are mainly very inspiring, like Roar, and Proud. Very helpful when you are feeling sluggish.I normally work in silence.
We are having a warm spell. 11° C.Nice change, but it's a bit dull and drizzly.
Going to have the M&S Chinese crispy duck tonight. Should be fun. It must be 15 or so years since I last had it in a restaurant.

Mo - Makes perfect sense to me! I always look too, both for color, to make sure I'm staying hydrated, and to make sure I'm not dumping protein. Due to the 20-year-old gastric bypass, I still concentrate on getting at least 65g of protein in a day. But I've also had a half dozen kidney stones, so I try not to get too far over that with it. Usual tightrope, we all seem to walk a lot of them.
The bariatric surgery is also part of the cause for the anemia that I dealt with the last five years - the duodenum was bypassed, so iron absorption become quite sketchy. I've just finally been able to come down from 628 mg a day to 324. They're checking me again in March to make sure that's enough to keep my iron up. We cook most things in cast iron and my husband tries to get me to eat beef as often as he does to keep the dietary side of things up, as well.
Heather - We're doing Chinese tonight as well. I rescued the last diced meat package of the rotisserie chickens I dismembered in November. Those will go well with fried rice with egg, and a couple egg rolls for Corey that we have in the freezer. Corey's become quite good at fried rice. I will even eat the occasional pea. 😂😉
Been writing all morning, got my next script done, pleased with that. I'll tackle editing it and breaking it down to an outline tomorrow. Trying to push that little voice away that says "you can wait until Monday or Tuesday on the floors... 😈" Lazy little buggerty voice just needs to hush up.
It's time to MAKE myself do the vacuuming. Hate driving Egg 🐈⬛ up a wall with it, but it's not my fault it's cold outside and she thinks the vacuum cleaner is the devil. 👀😈😂I can't just quit cleaning floors all winter... can I? No, no, I cannot.
I'll sprinkle the carpet powder on the rugs before I get on the elliptical, and once I've had the move-it music going for that amount of time, it will be easier to tackle the vacuuming. Right? Yeah, right. 👀😶😂
Later,
Love y'all,

Lynn, I am a diabetic, too. I can have a 1/2 of one, but I figure why bother. I love bananas, but I have been fine without them. My nutritionist has me on 120-130 carbs per day. So I buy Royo bread, which is not cheap, but I am an empty nester, and it is worth it. The bread tastes good compared to the regular bread and keto bread. I use low carb tortillas, too. Ole has good fiber tortillas, and Mission and Banderita have carbonation street tortillas that are low in calories and carbs. If I have a sweet tooth, I eat "Built" protein bars that are good or make protein shakes.
I am so sorry about Libby. My Rose is 9, and currently, she believes she is a puppy. I can see the senior cause she loves to nap. She is a bossy Golden Retriever. I love the company a dog brings cause I am alone here currently. My DH moved to Chicago for work. When I qualify for retirement, I will join him. DH does a lot of travel. If we get another dog, we will get a mini doodle to decrease shedding as my Rose does. It would be nice not to have to worry about an animal, but like I said, Rose is my emotional support dog. It is nice to have her to come home to. My other Golden Rusty died alone, and I was so sad that it happened. I didn't get to thank him for helping me with my kids and being so loving. I wanted to put him to sleep, but DH wasn't ready. So he died alone, and my daughter was the one who found him. That was so traumatic. I didn't get to say goodbye. That was the hardest.
Garden 875, please sign off with your preferred name and where you are from. Are you Kelly? I want to get the names straight.
Debbie, Beth is correct. Your DH needs a POA, or he will have difficulty getting things done. I hope your MIL doesn't give him a hard time about it.
Machka, that meme you just posted describes perfectly how I feel about doing my mom's and our taxes.
Pip, great job! Steve Cardin has slipped behind.
Margaret, I used to sleep with Alexandra's picture and blanket, which she was swaddled in under my pillow. I smelled my dad's watch and wore the t-shirt of my dad I used to take as a teen (I can fit it
now:)). I dream of my dad and uncle many times giving me advice. I write it down and store it in my notes.
Before I move, I need to make sure my name is on the Condo in Chicago and my Jeep. In my dream, my dad is telling me to start a bank account in my and DS's name, so if I die, he has something to carry on. He wants me to invest in mutual funds for DS. DS was my dad's favorite. The weirdest thing is that Baby Suko suggested the same thing. I think they are right. DH will not save anything for DS. DD is his favorite.
Allie, I am glad you got some good rest. Your body needs it. I hope Kyle gets the help he needs.
Lisa, I thought it was cold in Mississippi, with temperatures in the 30s to 20s, but seven is awful. Do not send that down here. My heating bill is going to be high enough.
Well, I better get my day going. Talk to you all later.

Rebecca … the farmer charged $34.00. I priced the items using Walmart Groceries and Wegmans (large chain out my way). Choosing the low to mid range pricing, the items came to $32.80. Delivery was an additional 2.50. Aldis would probably be cheaper but I don’t always get great groceries from them. And part of the fun is now using up what’s in the box!😄 It’s a game I play when I’m dealing with decision fatigue in the kitchen.
Beth
That's a very healthy game too! I try to buy something I don't always get so I don't get in a rut. Today I am going to buy a small bag of spinach which I go thru periods of time where I can't get enough, and other times like no, not having it! I might also get some bok choy. Course if there's tomatoes, gotta buy a tomato, and an English cucumber!

Here is this month’s diabetes class worksheet. If anyone wants back classes, just PM me your email and I will send what you request, some or all! This one is on eating on holidays. A bit out of holidays now, but always good information and reminders.Session 21:
Healthy Holiday Eating
Overview
The goal of this session is to learn how to eat healthy
and maintain your weight during the holiday season.
The holidays are a time of celebration with family and
friends. You are surrounded by foods that you may not
normally have during the year. In this session, you will
learn how you can enjoy your favorite foods and make
it through the holidays without gaining weight.
Create Balanced Meals
It can be tempting to take a break from healthy eating
and activity during the holidays. Don’t give in to that
thinking. Instead, think about balance. Where can you
fit in a few minutes of exercise? How can you balance
out treats with healthy foods? Rather than over doing it,
Choose lean meats ➢ Protein keeps you fuller longer
and helps decrease snacking
Make half your plate
fruits and vegetables
➢ Fresh fruits and vegetables
are full of nutrients and low in
calories
Choose whole grains ➢ High in fiber to support fullness
Stay hydrated ➢ You may mistake thirst for
hunger when you are not well
hydrated
1
choose foods you really, really want. Think about how
those foods can fit into a balanced meal or snack.
Here are some tips for making a meal balanced.
❖ See Handout: Liven Up Your Water for the Holidays
✓ Skill Building Activity: Balanced Holiday Plate
Recipe Modification
✓ Holiday favorites are often high in calories and can
be low in nutrition. In a later session, you will learn
many ways you can improve a recipe. To get you
started, here are a few tips that will lower the calories
of your holiday favorites.
Reduce the
amount of fat
➢ Choose low-fat dairy
products
Make healthy
substitutions
➢ Use brown rice or quinoa in
your side dishes
➢ Replace ½ of the white flour
in recipes with whole wheat
flour
➢ Steam vegetables
➢ Choose fresh fruits over
canned fruits packed in
syrup
2
Change the way
you cook your
foods
➢ Use non-stick pans to reduce
the amount of oil needed
during cooking
➢ Baste your foods in low-
sodium broth or wine instead
of oil
❖ See Handout: Holiday Recipe Modification
✓ Skill Building Activity: Modify Your Favorite Recipe
(your coach will lead you through this activity)
❖ See Handout: Holiday Recipes
Use Your Mindful Eating Skills
Whether you choose to eat a modified version of your
holiday foods or you choose the original, it is still
important to be mindful. In session 3, you learned all
about mindful eating. Use those skills during the
holidays. Be sure to hone in on your hunger and fullness
cues. Try to think about how overeating feels both
physically and mentally. Remember, food always taste
better when you are actually hungry.
Holiday Strategies
Before an upcoming holiday, it is important to have a
plan. Think about where you will be. Who will you be
with? Try to anticipate any challenges. Then, use these
strategies and the help of your coach to prepare.
3
Holiday Strategy Make a plan before
heading to a holiday
party
If you don’t love it,
leave it
Plan time for physical
activity
Don’t skip meals Alternate alcohol with
calorie-free beverages
Leave white space on
your plate
Use a plate Bring your own
healthy dish
Reach out to family
and friends for support
Why it Works
➢ What kind of drinks will I have?
➢ What kind of foods will be best
for me?
➢ Skipping dishes that are not
favorites allows room for favorite
foods
➢ Take the focus off of food and
get active with your loved ones
➢ People who skip meals may end
up overeating later on
➢ Cut your alcohol calories in ½ by
drinking water or seltzer between
drinks
➢ Leaving space can help with
portion control
➢ Eating meals and snacks on a
plate will help decrease
snacking
➢ Allows you to see your portion
sizes
➢ The host will be happy and you
will have one more healthy item
to choose from
➢ Share your health goals with your
family & friends this holiday
season.
➢ Let them know how they can
support you.
o Example: Let your mom
know that you love her and
4
her cooking, but this year
you won’t be getting
seconds
➢ Refer back to session 6 on
getting support
✓ Skill Building Activity: Support List (your coach will
explain this activity)
❖ See Handout: Alcoholic Beverages
Summary

Liven Up Your Water for the Holiday
Use these tips to make sure you and your family stay
hydrated this holiday season.
Tips to Live Up Your Water:
● Squeeze a fresh orange into your water.
● Add a splash of cranberry juice to your water.
● Add fresh fruit for color and a refreshing taste.
● Add fresh fruit like berries to sparkling water for a bubbly
and colorful drink.
● Create flavorful ice cubes. Add sliced or chopped fruit to
an ice tray, top with water and freeze.
● Leave out colorful holiday straws next to your cups. Using
a straw will help you drink more.
Holiday Recipe Modification
Try these easy recipe tricks to create healthier versions
of your favorite holiday dishes.
Mashed potatoes
● Use low sodium chicken broth in place of heavy
cream to add flavor and decrease calories.
Sweet potato casserole
● Use toasted walnuts drizzled with honey as a topping
instead of marshmallows. This will add a healthy serving
of fat and a tasty crunch.
Baked goods
● Use applesauce in place of oil in baking, it is a 1:1
ratio. For example, use 1⁄2 cup of applesauce in place
of 1⁄2 cup of oil. This will decrease the amount of fat in
the recipe.
Stuffing
● Use whole grain bread in place of white bread to
increase fiber. You may need to add extra low
sodium broth for moisture as needed.
Leave off the frosting
● Dust your brownies, cakes or cookies with powder
sugar to decrease the amount of sugar and calories.
It also gives it a “snowy” appearance for the season.
Pumpkin Dip
Use leftover pumpkin to create a sweet and
healthy treat!
Dip your favorite fruits like sliced apples or pears
in pumpkin dip for a protein and fiber rich snack.
INGREDIENTS:
● ¼ cup pumpkin puree
● ½ cup vanilla Greek yogurt
● Cinnamon to taste
● Sliced apples, pears or graham crackers for
dipping
DIRECTIONS:
1. Mix the pumpkin puree and Greek yogurt until
smooth.
2. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
3.Use your favorite fruit or graham crackers for
dipping.
4. Create a pumpkin parfait by topping with
walnuts, dried fruit and/or granola.
Pumpkin Quesadillas
Create a quick and healthy lunch with leftover pumpkin.
INGREDIENTS:
● 2 cups canned 100% pumpkin puree
● 2 Tbsp. olive oil (or substitute cooking spray)
● 8 (8-inch) whole wheat tortillas
● 4 ounces part-skim shredded mozzarella cheese
● 1 tsp. ground cumin
● ¼ cup chopped walnuts, toasted
● ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a bowl, combine the pumpkin and cumin. Spread the
mixture on 4 tortillas.
2. Sprinkle the tortillas with cheese, nuts, and cilantro. Top
with the remaining tortillas.
3. In a large skillet, heat ½ Tbsp. oil over medium-low heat.
Cook quesadillas 1 at a time, turning once and adding
more oil between batches, until browned.
4. Cut into wedges and serve immediately.
Serving suggestions:
✔Serve with a bowl of lentil vegetable soup for a filling and
nourishing dinner.
✔Add a side salad for a quick and healthy lunch.
✔For a different twist, substitute cottage cheese for
mozzarella and try as a high protein, fiber filled breakfast.
✔You can make this vegan by substituting crumbled tofu or
vegan cheese.
Banana Cranberry Macadamia Nut Muffins
Try this fiber packed muffin for a quick holiday breakfast.
INGREDIENTS:
● 1½ cups all-purpose flour
● 1tsp. baking soda
● ¼ tsp. salt
● 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
● 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
● 1¼ cups mashed ripe bananas
● ¼ cup sugar
● ¼ cup firmly packed brown sugar
● ½ cup macadamia nut oil
● ¼ cup low-fat milk
● 1 large egg
● ½ cup chopped macadamia nuts
● ½ cup dried cranberries
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Measure flour, baking soda, salt and spices. Sift the
mixture into a large bowl.
3. Mix together bananas, sugar, brown sugar, oil, milk, and
the egg. Fold the wet ingredients into the flour mixture
along with the dried cranberries. Do not over mix.
4. Spoon batter into prepared 12 cup muffin tin. Fill each tin
about ¾ of the way full with batter.
5. Sprinkle top of muffins with the chopped macadamia
nuts.
6. Bake for 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center
comes out clean.
7. Transfer muffins to wire racks to cool. Makes 12 muffins.
Alcoholic Beverages
Alcoholic beverages can be high in calories without
providing any nutrients.
The following tips can help you enjoy a drink in moderation
and keep your goals in sight.
1.) Moderation
o Men should have no more than 2 drinks and women
should have no more than 1 drink.
2.) What is considered 1 drink?
o 12 ounces of beer
o 5 ounces of wine
o 1.5 ounces of spirits
3.) Limit mixed drinks made with soda
o These can be high in sugar
o Instead, use seltzer as a mixer with a splash of fruit juice
4.) Always eat a small amount of food
o Eat a small amount of food before drinking alcohol to
slow down alcohol absorption.
5.) Drink water between alcoholic beverages
o This will help you stay hydrated and cut the calories in
half.

Was going to post a picture, but it seemed HUGE. Ha!
Well then....................339 new comments in this chat later.......................I have a LOT of catching up to do.
We have sNOw here yesterday and today. So I supposed this has given me a tiny moment to breathe. Yes, you read that correctly. sNOw. I have embraced the NO is sNOw with my whole heart, and probably part of my butt. Not a fan! However, I will stay positive and be thankful for a small slow down. Looks like in order to catch up in here, Ill have to embrace some toilet reading. ha!
Quick update for me. I have been just trying to stay out of the hospital since my brief stay in November. I have had several small esophageal attacks over the last couple of months, and only one really major. My upcoming labs should tell me if my lipase is down to a normal level. My pancreas was enlarged and my lipase was critically high at 1984 (normal is between 16-77). They wanted to put me in ICU but I agreed to stay only if they didn't put me there. I felt fine for the most part. So I am trying to be a good girl and drink lots of water every day. A challenge, since I love coffee and recently discovered proper tea. I have had to put my Sommelier studies on hold for a bit.
I have been doing a great deal of restorative breath work and diaphragmatic massage. This has been really helpful with keeping my stress low, which seems to bring on these esophageal spasms. My coach is amazing and supportive, always checking on me and researching how to "fix" me. Ha!
Work has been a little bit of insane with pool season in full swing. But I will endure. There are worse things than working poolside.
I hope everyone is doing well. I will do some back reading today and try to catch up a little. In the meantime, I am a girl who has little free time and rarely watches TV, but...........who else has watched Bridgerton or Queen Charlotte?? I CANNOT wait until season 4!!!!!!!

Allie - Are you cold indoors?! Not sure why you are getting Reynauds. 🤔
The duck was really nice. I will buy it again. It had all the pancakes, hoisin sauce, cucumber and scallions with it. I just did some tenderstem broccoli with sesame oil.
It was labelled for four people, but it was perfect for two.😜
Heidi - Do you know why your pancreas is acting up? Sounds horrible.

@grandmallie they are so… cute!
@kevrit love the humor
Feeling a bit tired as I went for a hike with my older brother and eldest niece. It is a bit cooler in Florida today than it has been. With it being overcast, that was helpful for the hike. My brother and his family live in Alabama and are here this week to celebrate our dad’s 87 birthday.

Mo - Exactly! I love bananas, but if I can only have a small amount, it's not worth it. I've been trying to stay around 100g of carbs a day. That seems to be my happy place to lose. I have had a couple of really low bs levels in the morning the past few days. Yesterday was 67 and was not feeling well. I usually eat 3 hard boiled eggs and some pork belly in the morning after I work out and am usually fine until lunch, but something was definitely different yesterday.
I have been wanting to try the Royo bread - really like the Arnold keto bread, so used to the cost. We are empty nesters also. I really like the EggLife egg white wraps and the la banderita tortillas! I have also been wanting to try the Bilt bars - sometimes I get a wicked sweet tooth, but I can usually stave that off with a spoonfull of peanut butter. We also have found carbo nada pasta and it is really good too, for a pasta fix.
And thank you for the kind words about Libby. It's nice when you run into people that understand how big of a portion of your life pets truly are.
