Hello, My Tribe,
Sarah, it is so lovely to meet you. The battle of the bulge is a tough fight, and it is better to have a tribe or team behind you to cheer you on. We are here for you. We don't discuss politics or religion on this site, but whatever our belief system is, we send positive vibes your way. Spinal fusion is a challenging surgery, and I have cared for many who had the surgery. I advise getting upper body strength before the surgery because the work begins afterward. It depends on the surgeon; some want you to get up on day one, and some want you to get up on day two. Keep talking to us, and we will be there for you.
Kylie, I am worried about Alzheimer's as well. My mom was active, but she spent her time caring for her family, and when she was done, her memory started to wane. I need to stay active.
Lanette, the 92-year-old man driving against the doctor's advice, is unsafe. We hosted a group of youth from Germany, Japan, and other parts of the US. The leader was a married couple who went to a retreat in Vermont. On their way back to Mississippi, an older man who was not supposed to drive got confused and moved across the highway, collided with the couple, and hit them head-on. It killed Hannah instantly, and her husband Caleb was never the same again. He moved to another country to get away from his family.
Flea, being a parent is not easy. I regret so many things about my parenting skills. Hindsight is 20/20 vision. My daughter Julia and I always bumped heads from day one. I love Julia, but I don't like her decisions. My son, I should not have been so lenient about him helping with cleaning chores, but now he
has to learn. My MIL didn't talk to my husband, so he just started helping with the cleaning process.
We are talking things out that we didn't talk about before. DS is a good kid, but he is curious about what he missed when he was not growing up around family.
Ginny, I constantly pick up dust bunnies or tumbleweeds (dog hair) as I walk up the stairs or prepare my workout area. I clean, and a few days later, I see new friends. It is a never-ending story. I am so sorry for your aches and pains. I believe it comes with our age. My hip has been giving me the blues, and I wonder if it is arthritis.
This week at work, I got a break from that mom, but she was so wild I had to go and talk with her. Then, she was angry when another nurse told me another parent was on the phone for me. She said it wasn't true, and we did that to get out of the room. I told her I would do it if I needed to leave the room. I told her she hurt my feelings by saying it wasn't true. I explained that this mom can not stay with her baby because she has a 1-year-old and two more that are 3 and 5 years of age. So she cannot remain in the hospital with her baby. I brought that mom one of my husband's books to help her and gave her a word search book. For her daughter, I gave her a Barbie school teacher with one child. For my patient, who is 8 months old, I got him three outfits. He looked so cute. I got a lavender bath for the baby, too. He slept so well all night.
DH wants to go back to Florida—just the two of us. He is considering April 4-11. On Tuesday night, I got together with my friends. We had Mexican food and caught up on our kids and lives. My friend Shannon has five kids. Her oldest was dancing with my daughter, so she is twenty-five, and the youngest is eight.
Her kids are going to South Carolina with Grandma, and her DH will attend a work conference. So, she booked a cottage on a beach in Alabama to be alone. Since Shannan's DH's work conference was canceled, he said he could go to the beach with her. So, she gave him the guidelines for going. He later asked if she wanted to go alone, and she said yes. So now he is going to Chicago to visit his brother. I was so happy for her. She wants to sleep as late as she wants, read, craft, and knit while looking at the waves. She said that she is unplugging from social media as well. Then, the other two discussed the divorce and infidelity on their husband's part. Melanie is dating a nice guy, and Bonnie has no interest in dating. I did get a number to a CPA to help me figure out my mom's taxes. It was good to get out and mingle. Wow, I was on a roll. Sorry.
Tight hugs for all!

Hi, I need to add to my long enough post.
Carla- Happy Belated Birthday.
Debbie, I'm sorry for the loss of your former MIL.
Rebecca, Condolences for the loss of your 96-year-old aunt. Safe travels to the funeral. I love your haircut.
Lisa, I tried to comment on your video, but I could not as well. You have so much energy; pass some of it my way.
Allie, the house temperature for you and the children should be at least 72 degrees. I have a space heater at work. Maybe you can get one to warm up so you can be healthy.
Barbie and Annie look precisely like the ones I pictured in my mind. She is beautiful.
Pip, how did you deal with three energetic golden retrievers? My one is needy. Maybe all three kept each other company. Now you have three dogs again.
Okay, I am going to bed.
Chow for now,

My SIL is having her grandchildren for next weekend, which she hasn't done in years. She is texting me, asking for advice!
I've done my editing for today. This chapter is about about how we make, or don't make, decisions, and why so many of us fail to see 'the elephant in the room'. One of my mother's favourite sayings was, 'He can't see the wood for the trees '.
It's French Circle tonight. So an early dinner. Salmon, roasted cauliflower and sauce vierge. John is a bit undecided about going, because he couldn't get to sleep last night. He says it's nothing specific he's worrying about, and I did say to be sure to tell me. I think he hates getting old and not feeling fit. He still is super fit for 79, but there are the inevitable aches and pains and no one lives forever. Hopefully the girls will cheer him up on Friday.
He has always been inclined to these anxiety attacks, but recently they have been milder and less frequent. They used to be disabling and frightening.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Kylia-some days we just want to smoke! It is rough working through and the lack of nicotine does impact our bodies. Without the extra things to change our metabolism if we are eating decently I think our bodies got to where they naturally want to be and not where we want them. I was feeling so down on myself at weigh in cancer center but I didn't say anything. Nurse said "Great weight!" I said "You're kidding, right." She assured me she wasn't. She said skinny is not good at such times-but she told me it isn't an excuse to go overboard. I needed to hear that!
Lisa-getting cars paid off is such a great feeling. I think it is wise to look at how to set things up for flexibility for the future.
Happy birthday Carla!
Rita-your plan sounds sensible. It gives you time to find a more permanent residence. If you find one will you sell RV or still keep it for traveling?
Barbie-the colors on and around your bed are perfect for Annie! What a sweet dog.
Debbie-peace to you on the passing of ex-MIL. Blood is only one way to determine family.
Rebecca-I have been thinking of going for a short cut like yours. Cute!
Heather-I think it is healthy John admits to his anxiety.
Yesterday's medical experience:Our insurance at work has us able to use what is supposed to be a functional medicine group of NPs. Since it is a mile down the road I decided to use them (since my doc who was wonderful) retired. Saw them last fall, got scheduled for annual check up yesterday. Held off getting checked on rib stuff until I saw them. My original NP left the practice. Received letter that if we didn't want to make changes of provider all was good, Ms. XX would take care. Showed up yesterday-they didn't have me on books. I told them I had held off on getting ribs checked (even said mild breathing issues). They said they could see me March 11. I kept it together long enough to say, no-just forget it, I will elsewhere thank you. I told them to cancel my membership. Now, they don't know I am moving this summer, but I did not like the way the practice is managed, Went home, food a walk-in clinic with medical practice. Got a muscle relaxer and med dose pack (which is what I figured I needed since CT scans a week ago showed nothing with ribs). The NP group started texting to apologize. Said they could fit me in for 1 pm emergency check, etc. I haven't responded since I can't think of anything nice to say.
Work today and tomorrow and off Friday to check out two more communities. I can't imagine what it would be like if I needed to have something right now-there is so much to consider.
Take care all,

Really enjoyed the Minimal Mom video on YouTube today. It's title is 21 things to declutter, but it starts with her and her twin explaining their relationship. Then the decluttering, and then a bit of an update on her divorce and what they have both learned from the process. I found it very warm and inspiring. I even had a little cry.

Hey, kids,
Definitely have more energy now, but that may be to make up for a couple of years of dealing solely with all the medica-crappa-palooza that took over my life. For those who are new, anemia, Crohn's and A-fib all slammed into me at the same time as the pandemic hit everyone else. Throw in the pre-existing thyroid issues, which are now wonky again, and I was impersonating a paperweight for quite a while, nearly 3 years. This long burst of energy is my form of backlash... 😉
Really grateful none were lethal, just kind of immobilizing for a while.
Didn't sleep well, too many scenarios still stomping around in jackboots in my head (what are jackboots, anyway? I'll have to look it up.) Eventually dozed off about 1 a.m., back up again at 6. Nap in my future, I think. But the upshot of the day was that the doc is going to get a referral in progress to a local podiatrist, and physical therapy for the knee issues. Won't know the results on the thyroid test until tomorrow.
Was able to spend an hour in that crazy day to stop into the thrift store on senior day (30% off) as well. I've had this weird thing for hatboxes lately, have one already that I painted white over a Pooh pattern. Picked up one yesterday, a full-sized one with a Christmas pattern that is also going to get painted, and one smaller one, with an odd bow and grapes. Spoiler shows the small one, then all three:
That pattern does give me an idea, though... but then, they all give me ideas, or I wouldn't buy them. I'm thinking about a Victorian crazy quilt, but in paint, across all of them. If it's done right, it could be very nice. Would satisfy my fascination with stained glass, fabric and paint all at once! Sample of what I have in mind in the spoiler:
I also found some fabric boxes, want to tear one apart and figure out a good pattern for it, don't like the slicky covering. Egg likes them, though:Will shove all this in the creative furnace and see what comes out.
And since I've been very visual today - one of my favorite nephews posted this on Facebook. Made me think of your dad jokes, Rita. Plus, in all honesty, it looks a lot like him:
Love y'all,

My adventures in decluttering go back to 1991 when my mother died and we moved into her house. It took ten years for us to sort through all the things we hurriedly put into three large storage units to allow us to merge two cluttered households (three if you count the fact that when Jake and I got married in 1989 he moved himself and his stuff into my house). All that time allowed me to treat every item with respect and make good choices. I was reminded of what a good decision that was when I recently saw a giant dumpster in the driveway of a neighbours house where it seemed that family members were dumping everything.
One way to declutter is to take time to think (days or weeks) before buying anything new. I've embraced intentional shopping and don't wander through stores or websites looking at things I "might" want. The Minimalists say that the best place to store stuff is at the store.
Another thing that has helped me is to put aside seriously sentimental stuff to deal with later and start with the obvious easy stuff. Also, discarding 1-10 things in a day is a win. I don't have to fill a sack, box, or garbage can to feel successful.
Lisa, All your crafts are amazing. Enjoy your years of imagination and creativity.
Yes, Annie looks adorable on my pillows. But she doesn't lie on them during the day, only when we come back from a middle of the night trip outside to "do business". It's not so cute at midnight.
I dealt with two more accounts that were in both names. One I cancelled so I don't have to pay $99.00 for accidental death insurance that Jake insisted on having. The other was AAA emergency service that will cost $40.00 less with only one of us. Both customer service reps were very kind and friendly.
One of my line dance friends sent an email and asked me to call her. I remember when her husband died about four years ago and she came back to dancing right away. She spent 45 minutes talking about herself and how she'd handled her husband's death. I said almost nothing. Her approach to her grief was so different from mine but it seemed to make her feel better to talk about it.
Annie and I will drive to the library today to get a book I put on hold.
Carla, Happy day after your birthday. Best wishes for another great year.

One of the books I am reading is exploring the fact that some cancers are a metabolic disease. The theory is mitochondria becomes damaged when it is damaged it feeds on glucose to get it its energy. They are experimenting with having people fast before a chemo treatment. The theory is the healthy mitochondria gets stronger in fasting and the cancerous mitochondria weakens during fasting. When radiation and or chemo is done it kills the damaged mitochondria the healthier mitochondria goes through the treatment better. In the trials those trying fasting had fewer side effects from their treatments. It costs nothing to try a fast before chemo.
My plan for the day...
For me it makes me think what can I do to strengthen my mitochondria (these are our powerhouses in our body) Eating within a eight hour window so have a 16 hour fast. Today because I ate breakfast at 9 I will be done eating for the day by 5. I will also skip lunch because I had a late breakfast for me. Moderate exercise is also good. Today at 5 I will put on one of my oldie records and dance to it down in my basement. Today I will start getting ready for bed at 9. Getting good sleep gives my body a chance to rest, repair, and remove toxins from my body. I will continue to feed my body nutritious food rather than empty calories. At four I will have my chilli that is packed with extra veggies and fresh pineapple for dessert.
Barbie I agree everyone experiences grief differently and there is no right or wrong way to go about it. Your dance line friend was ready and in need to tell her story. Hopefully she can listen to your story when you are ready or at least listen to what you have going on in your life. I try to get myself to remember I have two ears and one mouth so I should listen twice as much as I speak. (I need to work on following my own advice) I also need to gently set limits when others do not follow this guideline too! Adding Barbara's comment too...open heartand mind

No idea why, but my energy has been really low today. I decided after lunch that I didn't feel like dragging us both out to French Circle, with v early dinner and considerable smartening up required. Just not feeling it. John definitely not into it. So, I decided that was a good decision and had a nap.
John pleased.
I hope to go next time, which will be a series of cooking demonstrations, and probably a chance for informal chat.
Did get an appointment to have my fallen-out filling looked at on Friday morning. Occasionally, it is a bit sensitive, which makes me nervous. I've rung twice before with no answer, but John got through just before lunch for his own check-up, and passed the phone to me.
Hoping this slump will lift before too long.

Happy Birthday Carla!

Tracey in Edmonton
Thank you Tracey, they help my moods as well! I will lose the park host position here when we leave, however, we worked over 5,000 hours and now have a lifetime pass to host anywhere in the state. Everyone here, including the supervisor that told us we have to leave for 2 weeks, wants us to come back. It’s all about paperwork now. Paperwork to leave for 2 weeks, paperwork if we come back. The powers that be want to enforce the rule (which is actually a state law) that we have to move out for 2 weeks every 6 months. Makes no sense to me. If the park rangers like what we are doing and we want to stay, the 2 weeks will be a forced vacation and generates a lot of paperwork for administration. They just want proof. I told the rangers, why can’t we just do the paperwork and no move. They said they thought of that, however administration knows we are here and for how long, so pushing for us to move out for 2 weeks. IMO a waste of time. However, we have been talking about renting or rent-to-buy a house for a while so I’m taking this as a sign we need to follow through with the plans. I just wanted to wait until the car is paid off next year. Oh well “que sera, sera”.

@Ginny we will keep the RV until we find a place to rent/buy. Once we are all moved in, we will put the RV up for sale. It is a 1999 and we have lived in it for 8 years now, so we won’t get much for it. DH is planning on fixing the one small roof leak we have (he has fixed all the others from when we bought it, along with all the plumbing). It needs all new upholstery. I hate seeing him on the roof. He is 71 and feels like he is 20. He is not physically fit and has a 71 year old body.
@Carla, Happy belated birthday!
As I was writing this, we had company and updated them on the happenings here. They were disgusted. The husband S was the Ranger Supervisor here for 25 years and they both live across from the park. In fact, part of their land is included in the park borders. They have been friends here for years. If worse comes to worse, we can put our RV on their property for the 2 weeks we have to be gone. I was reminded that another friend of ours JD is at a campground that needs hosts. We may look into that.
Thought for today:
What is the cutest fish in the sea?
A cuddlefish!
Cuttlefish, or cuttles, are marine molluscs of the suborder Sepiina. They belong to the class Cephalopoda which also includes squid, octopuses, and nautiluses. Cuttlefish have a unique internal shell, the cuttlebone, which is used for control of buoyancy.
Cuttlefish have large, W-shaped pupils, eight arms, and two tentacles furnished with denticulated suckers, with which they secure their prey. They generally range in size from 15 to 25 cm (6 to 10 in), with the largest species, the giant cuttlefish (Sepia apama), reaching 50 cm (20 in) in mantle length and over 10.5 kg (23 lb) in mass.[1]
Cuttlefish eat small molluscs, crabs, shrimp, fish, octopuses, worms, and other cuttlefish. Their predators include dolphins, larger fish (including sharks), seals, seabirds, and other cuttlefish. The typical life expectancy of a cuttlefish is about 1–2 years. Studies are said to indicate cuttlefish to be among the most intelligent invertebrates.[2] Cuttlefish also have one of the largest brain-to-body size ratios of all invertebrates.[2]
The Greco-Roman world valued the cuttlefish as a source of the unique brown pigment the creature releases from its siphon when it is alarmed. The word for the cuttlefish in both Greek and Latin, sepia, now refers to the reddish-brown color sepia in English.
Have a great day!

Former hubby and I met when I was in 7th grade so I have known and loved his family for most of my life. We did loose touch when he left me(no warning and I didn't know where he went) Found out 20 yrs later that his second wife had forbade them to have any contact with me, including his parents. After she passed away we all reconnected-that was almost 10 yrs ago now. It has been great to be back in touch and see them occasionally. His younger brother has been out and hung out with my current dh and I a few different times while staying at the older brother's house here in town. Spent more time with us than he did with his brother
When I make my annual Christmas candies- everyone of them get boxes of it- they are the priority when I am making it. Shipping is expensive but love doing it for them and they really look forward to it.

Barbara, although plenty of people in our general area did feel the earthquake, we weren’t among them. Our home is built on the side of a mountain so we don’t really feel them anyway. Our only indication would be a loud “thump”, got one of those ten or so days ago when we had a small quake. There is blasting going on nearish us, close enough to hear the thump but too far away to hear the blasting signals, so anything during the day we would just write off as that.
Debbie so sorry to hear that your ex mil passed. Really does not sound good for current mil, but that may be not such a bad thing, I’m sorry to say.
Rebecca, sorry for the loss of your aunt. In regards to the cousin whose political opinion differs from yours you could do what a friend of mine in a similar situation does. When the others start trying to talk politics she puts her hand up, in the stop position, and tells them that since neither side is going to change their minds, the subject should just be dropped.
Michele, I used to clean house for a living and I absolutely HATED doing bathrooms with tile in the showers! The grout was always a pain. We have one piece seamless surrounds which don’t go all the way to the ceiling and they are great! We do have bathroom fans that are run for at least 20 minutes after showers and an air circulating system that helps remove moisture in the air so have not had any issues with the drywall that isn’t covered by the surround.
I’ve been trying to cut down on spending, did very well in Jan so thought I’d try for feb as well. Doing stuff like shopping out of the fridge and cupboards and not buying stuff we didn’t need. Well, we went to our optometrist and both needed to get new glasses. That blew the budget completely out of the water!! It was a need, but….. but I’ve checked the freezer, we are good for protein for awhile, going to try and see if march is kinder to the bank account, lol. Of course, since I decided that, our kettle decided to pack it up. It worked great for the last ten years or so, don’t know why it couldn’t just keep on going…. Sigh. Managed to find a nice one for about $40, so pleased about that.
I’ve noticed talk on here about egg prices lately and wanted to report that I bought a flat of eggs (2 1/2 doz) for $10.19 a few days ago. That price has been fairly stable for awhile now.
Must go, no gym today, just can’t stand the thought of the elliptical, but it’s a beautiful sunny day out there so I’m going for a walk instead. Bought a rebounder a few weeks ago and have been bouncing around on it for at least 20 minutes in the evenings. Good to get up off my butt for a bit, lol!!
Carla, happy belated birthday!
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals!
